unlock tmo l9? - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Just bought my wife an L9 today, she is going out of the country for a month first week of February. TMo says I cant get an unlock code until after 14 days are up, then it could take up to another two weeks. Anyone know any way around this?

root and get an apn app from market, no need to get an unlock code for GSM android phones, there are plenty of tutorials to help you out

Have another T-Mobile customer request it?
They sell unlock code on eBay too.
For some reason T-Mobile sent the steps with 2945#*509# but for this phone, it should be 2945#*769#

Thanks for responding, guys. Ive seen the unlock code on sale on ebay, but was hoping someone already bought one from there and had experience on if it worked or not. I think we have decided that when she leaves the country she will pull the sim and just use yahoo video chat over wifi when she gets there.

the below one worked for me but ciocarlandaniel did not work.

NOTE: If you receive an error message while performing the instructions below, stop. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked.
1. Insert T-Mobile or Non T-Mobile SIM card in to the device. Once the device is powered on the screen should display Invalid SIM card Network lock
2. Tap the Dialer
3. Enter 2945#*769# (after inputting this a pop up box will appear)
4. Enter in the unlock code
5. Click done
6. Click unlock
I don't get "Invalid SIM card Network lock" with tmobile or att sim cards. After step 3 dialer disappears and i get this screen

sorry
sorry, i don't know it also!

There's also the 3845#*769# code for the hidden menu. Has some interesting features in there.

So how do we unlock this phone? Anyone succeeded with the above instructions from tmobile?

I had no problems unlocking phone with unlock code provided by T Mobile (long time pre-paid customer). Your instructions (Enter 2945#*769# in Dialer) to obtain "unlock network" service screen was necessary since T Mobile provided me generic instruction for LG phones:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: <snip>
IMEI: <snip>
Unlock Code: <snip>
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your LG device.
NOTE: If you receive an error message while performing the instructions below, stop. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked.
1. Insert Non T-Mobile SIM card in to the device. Once the device is powered on the screen should display "Invalid SIM card Network lock."
2. At the bottom of the screen tap the Unlock box. => Not applicable
3. Select/Tap Unlock USIM. => Not applicable
4. Next select/tap network lock. A SIM unlock process message will appear on the display.
5. Select/tap OK.
6. Enter the unlock code provided.
7. Select/tap OK.
8. Reenter the code.
9. Select/tap OK.
10. Message should display "Unlock Process Complete."
11.Select/tap OK.
12. The phone will restart.

this menu looks promising. The MSC MNC deals with the provider. Could that help unlock it?
I'd love to find a way to software unlock it.

Buy an unlock code through ebay. I paid USD $2.65 and just did mine over the weekend. Pretty simple. And if you are not sure, just youtube it.

Which Ebayer did you use?

In America it is currently illegal to unlock a phone WITHOUT carrier permission.... You can be jailed and fined up the wazzu... I would wait until congress addresses the issue... There was a online petition...

unfortunately i happen to be in the states and if i choose to unlock my phone with carrier or without i will do so because i feel like it and nothing will stop me. instead of petitions everyone should think and do it this way.

[Q] PUC code related to unlock menu?

So on my phone, I have a sim card pin setup when you turn it on. After you incorrectly enter the pin number 3 times, it locks you out until you call your service provider. So I called my service provider, who gave me a PUC (pin unlock code) code and told me that there should be an option that says enter your puc or something like that. But there wasn't, so the assistant asked me to enter it in the emergency dialer. When I hit dial after entering the PUC, it said that it was not an emergency dialer. According to the assistant, it should have automatically accepted the code, bringing me to the issue of the unlock menu. On stock, when you enter in *2945#500#, it should automatically accept the code, but on custom roms, it doesnt. I believe the two issues are related, but I would like to confirm this first. And maybe this might be sort of a request to the devs asking if they can include the unlock menu (i have read that it is not implemented as it is useless to most people) since now I have to get a new SIM card (not that it is the devs' fault, but it would be useful for people like me).
Or you could borrow a dumbphone and use that to unlock your sim (unless you get to keep your old number if you get a new one).
I have yet to experience needing a PUC on my sim on this phone on this ROM.

just tried that but it didnt work. probably because my sim card has been locked permanently
if a simcard is locked, than its locked and can only be unlocked by a PUK code.
You can order a new SIM card from network provider, its possile i know if the PUK is locked too because of to many failed trys.
even if i break the code to use the SIM card again, you cant make calls nor use
the contacts on the SIM - the network provider is checking the SIM status and
locks it again.

thanks for the reply.
but does the PUK code have anything to do with the unlock menu or those hidden codes in general? i know that on stock froyo, some codes are accepted automatically in the regular dialer. on custom roms, these codes are not accepted in the regular dialer at all. the emergency dialer did not accept the PUK code just like how the regular dialer did not accept the other codes (such as *2945#500#) and i was told that it was supposed to accept the code.
sorry, i never used hidden menus and dont know if its implemented in android source
or its a extra feature by manufacturers like LG, HTC,Samsung etc.
As i know the PUK is only for unlock the SIM when the chip is locked and can only be entered on a lockscreen keypad.
finally solved the puk issue. on my phone it did not ask for me to input the puk code. then i inserted my sim card in my dad's phone (same phone except running on stock froyo). now it asked me for a puk code. if only custom roms had this functionality of accepting these codes...

[Q] AT&T protection could it be hacked?

is it possible to hack the protection of the phone which allows only the use at&t sim card so i can use another sim outside the USA.?
Okay, 1. Its Called unlocking. 2. Its not hacking its a common process. you pay someone online through an unlocking company and its unlocked good to go
Without being rude, yes. You can unlock the phone to be used with other carriers. Unfortunately, I believe the Note requires GSM networks (to my knowledge, there is no CDMA version of the Note).
In the states, the Note would be usable on AT&T and T-Mobile as well as some smaller carriers that "piggy-back' off AT&T/T-Mobiles networks. The Note is NOT compatible with Verizon or Sprint or any networks that 'piggy-back' off Verizon/Sprint networks.
The way it is done from stock is as follows. NOTE that these instructions are for the AT&T i717 Note.
1. Find your IMEI number
Open the phone dialer and enter *#06#
After entering, a popup will appear with your IMEI number. Write this down and double check you wrote it down correctly. Tap the OK button to close this window.
2. Get your unlock code.
There are many services that do this, cellunlocker.net is one. I believe they charge $8 but dont quote me on this.
http://cellunlocker.net/samsung-unlock.php
Here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and there will be three dropdowns.
In the top dropdown, select 'i717 Galaxy Note 4g LTE'
Do NOT select the d, m, or r models.
In the second dropdown, scroll to United States and select AT&T (NOT AT&T/Cingular).
In the third box, input your IMEI number you wrote down in step 1.
Hit the 'look for code' button. It is here you will be prompted for payment information, after inputting your payment information, you will be prompted with your unlock code upon your payment successfully having been processed.
3. Entering your unlock key.
Power your phone down and put in the sim card for the carrier you wish to use.
Boot the phone and immediately upon swiping to unlock the phone, a screen will appear allowing you to enter the 8 digit unlock key. Type it in and press enter, wait about 30 seconds and the phone will be unlocked.

Hi guys, you can unlock you N7105 via the Samsung hidden menu. [Also works with N7100 and some Galaxy S3 (SIII) variants - NOT ALL]
#############################################
I can confirm the unlock survives ROM flashing
#############################################
Before doing the instructions below, please double check your phone that it is actually LOCKED by inserting a sim card from a different carrier/provider...you may or may not leave that sim card on the phone while unlocking
Unlock your N7105:
Click to collapse
Note: your phone must be running at least Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (if 4.1.1 does not work, try 4.1.0) otherwise some of the menu choices are not present
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy!!! There is no confirmation on the phone that the unlock was successfull.... just reboot your phone....
To test, just insert a sim card from a different carrier/provider. If the new sim card works then your phone is now unlocked.
I have done this to my other Note 2 N7105 originally locked to Orange.....
========================================
Do this procedure AT YOUR OWN RISK
========================================
To those who were able to unlock their phone with the method above, can you please post in the thread and let us know which phone model (N7100 or N7105) you have, Country and Network/Carrier your phone was locked to...... and if I have saved you some cash, please click the Thanks button or the Donate button on the left just below my name to buy me a can/bottle of Heinekken, Quilmes, Budweiser, Fosters, Tiger, Stella Artois, or San Miguel :cyclops: ...
========================================
NOTICE:
To those having "Conditional Call Forwarding" pop up message or similar pop ups appear everytime you make a call (but they disappear within a few seconds), this is normal with an old sim card, or when using a ported number. There is no restriction to calls or internet or whatever. This is confirmed by my provider when I walked in and asked them about it. They even showed me one of their sample Note 2's and S3's having the same message.
========================================
I have mentioned in my old thread that there was a pop up message that says "Conditional call forwarding active" everytime I make a phone call using another SIm card that the phone was not able to use before unlocking.
I can confirm that this was due to my Sim card. It is a very old O2 sim card that I have used for years. I have tried that Sim card on another factory unlocked phone (Galaxy i8160 bought from P4u) and it had the same message.
Can anyone confirm that this is a full sim unlock?

No problems. I did the steps did not work. Did them a second time, looks like it worked.
Used a verizon LTE sim, but they are a CDMA carrier. First time I tried the verizon sim asked for unlock code. Tried steps again and second time it did not calk for sim unlock code. I got signal but the notification bar still said searching.
Works perfectly on the AT&T SGH-I317! T-Mobile SIM had no issues.
OMG it work im in the UK & my note 2 WAS lock on EE now im using my o2 THANK U i don't have to pay EE to unlock my phone:good:

Put a sim from another carrier. If the phone does not ask for a code and you can use that sim to make calls then it worked.
just unlocked my at&t phone for free! Thanks OP!! Tested by inserting my old vzw lte sim. Before unlocking I got a pop up asking for the unlock code after putting in the vzw sim. After going though the steps it no longer asks me for the unlock code! Success!!
Hmm, this might open some very interesting options ...

Hmm, this might open some very interesting options - one of them being that the Samsung private key was somehow compiled into the modem tool inside the ROM; I wonder if that might be extracted from there and if that is Samsung-wide or just N710x-wide; what I do not doubt so much is that if that works so well then the next official ROM will remove it - but if I am right about the key it will remain valid so tools based on that could be made :good:
I can imagine that the official response from samsung on this would be "oops"! Fantastic
Thank OP for the excellent information, you just saved me $25 bucks.
I am getting greedy, can someone come up with the steps to root the phone?
Can confirm it works on ATT and T-Mobile. I did my att one and my friends t-mobile on a few minutes ago. Thanks OP

Op you are legendary, can I ask how you discovered this? I'm interested in finding the other hidden codes for the Samsung LTE phones.
Work for me on n7105 from Orange, however the menus did not behave in an intuitive way. It might be worth explaining what happens/what to expect with your details.
Has anyone tried putting the lock back on? Is it possible?
Also do you have any credits to share, I like to know all the people who helped - after all; networking is the key to success.
Again, legendary. Thank you.

No problem. I just found out about the secret code somewhere on xda, but it was for another topic I couldn't remember. But I never read about it being able to unlock the phone. I just carefully played with the menu and accidentally found about it.
I have not tried putting the lock back on.... who knows we cannot unlock it again... if you want to try it, feel free and please let us know, but for me, I will not

edit:
what do you mean by it did not behave in an intuitive way?

I NEED HELP Network Issuse

This phone is locked and can not be unlocked.. I bought a phone on ebay plugged my Sim card in booted up and was prompted for an unlock code. I then called my service provider and he said he could not help with that but if I entered the wrong code in 10 times the phone would then ask for a puk Code. Well we completed this but it never asked for the PUK code. Instead, it gives me the message "This phone is locked and can not be unlocked"..
I have called the original service provider and the maker of the phone. AND WAS SENT TO AND FRO FROM ONE TO THE OTHER. I still have a locked network and "emergency calls only" at the bottom of the screen and "network locked" in the task bar. I found a website that gave me instructions to get to the screen where you can unlock the network by pressing 2945#*850# in the dialer which gives you 5 options;
Network unlock - where I get the same message again: this phone is locked and can not be unlocked
Service provider unlock - your phone is not personalized
Network SubSet- your phone is not personalized
Corporate- your phone is not personalized
SIM/USIM-your phone is not personalized
I really need help LG G3 850
Ps. when I called the original service provider and gave them the IMEI number she said the phone is clean and not blacklisted or any thing. Just FYI
