[Q] I9100XWLS8 (4.1.2) - Spain (FOP) [23-01-12] factory reset considirations - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm considering to install this ROM and do a factory reset in order to clean all my carrier bloatware and customizations.
I'm wondering what should I expect to get in term of used memory and system storage after the factory reset?
I'm going to backup the following before the factory reset:
1. SD storage.
2. Possible phone based contacts.
3. My carrier APN
Anything else I should be backing up?
Thanks!

You could use Titanium Backup PRO to backup your user apps/appdata so that apps/app settings etc are restored.
No need to backup contacts as they're synced to google account and will restore when you re-enter account details.

That requires root access, which I have in my current rom, but also for the new rom.
Is there a tested rooting method for this rom?

Nice!
BTW, is that Siyah kernel based on the same original kernel build which comes with this rom (3.0.31-816988)?

Couldn't this mixing of this official release and a kernel from the previous leaked build be the source for some unexplained bugs?
Besides that I've read the Siyah 6.0b4 release notes and I saw that they have some known issues (like startup scripts not running).
I'm hoping to get a more stable installation than my current rooted I9100XWLPT (4.0.4) (not sure which root I've used).
So I'm looking to do things more careful with this release, so I'll get a stable running phone
I imagine that Siyah will release a new build for the official release pretty soon.
I waited until now, so I think that I'll wait a little more.
Thanks for all the info and recommendations!

Unrooting

Hi,
If I follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334 and root my phone, is there any option to put back the stock kernel i had? because like CF says, this kernel have bugs, so maybe i'll want to put it back to stock.
Plus, what CF version should I install according to the following screen shot?

Yes, but the main idea is to put an official kernel and the latest is the best one (kf2). You keep your root access with a very stable kernel and if you combine with modem kf2, you will have a very good configuration.
Edit: I just looking your screen capture. You can flash again ke7 kernel once rooting process if finish. You will keep root access.

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip ?
Does it fit with my device? watch my original post edit
Why not using litening v1.5 ? You will have everything (latest modem, kernel) and a very good firmware with CMW 4.0 embedded.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
actually i just wanted a root, i dont want any other rom , i want minimal changes..
Ok, I misunderstood you, sorry.
You need an insecure kernel and not a chain fire kernel
Edit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
Edit2: flash an insecure ke7 one through Odin (quite same version of yours) and after reboot you need superoneclick Install on your pc. The main idea is to flash a custom kernel, do the root process and ref lash official kernel. This is the only solution.

And is this the proccess you suggested above?
Another question, will I be able to restore the device to a way which I can use my warranty if needed?
Thanks
If you have an official kernel installed, warranty should be preserved.
But odin flash counter can provide the information about this unofficial kernel flash you need to do in order to become root. To reset this counter, you need a small device called USB JIB available on ebay for 6 euros.
Thanks to this device, the yellow triangle will be removed (that warns you have an unofficial kernel) and the odin flash counter will be resetted.
So, this is why, installing custom firmware is not a big deal after that...

Mobile data not connecting

Hello, I searched for my problem in both Google and these forums, with no success, but I apologize if I've missed something.
I was trying to experiment with nandroid backup to try to flash another ROM. First I used ROM Manager to update to the current version of CWM, then I rebooted into recovery, made a backup, then did a factory wipe. When the phone rebooted, the mobile data did not work. It will not work no matter what I try (factory reset, restore to previous backup, install latest cm nightly). I'm hoping someone can help me. Thanks in advance. Here's my phone info:

Unfortunately, changing the APN settings did not work. If I can't find something else online, I guess I'll flash the phone back to stock and start over with the rooting process. I do know enough to avoid galaxy2root....thanks for helping a newb who doesn't apparently retain instructions very well :fingers-crossed:
Have you tried to flash another modem? I'm not sure it would fix your issue but imo worth a shot.
I flashed the latest Siyah kernel and it seemed to do the trick. Internet's working again!

Don't use rom manager. Reboot after installing cm or aokp to get data working.

How to flash:
Before flashing I urge you to backup the device and the internal sd card, just in case, this is a non wipe ROM. Also be aware that if you restore the device to default factory settings it will erase your internal card!
Shutdown device.
Put your device into Download mode is by pressing "Volume Down"+"Home"+"Power Button" and then after the menu shows, "Volume Up"
Connect device to the pc.
Unrar the downloaded package,
Launch Odin, select "PDA" and then browse and select the ROM file, press "Start"... You're done !!
After the first boot is done, i recommend a reboot.
Enjoy !! And don't forget to say thanks !!
Reserved ... :silly:

Any diferences between this and AMA3? Anyone know where we can get a changelog? Ty
I like a lot what you have offered to us. But what is changed, what new? Is it useless to make new rom just only updated superSU binaries.
I've tried flashing this ROM four times through Odin and it caused Windows to bluescreen on all four times.

Won't it mess up anything if it's a different CSC?Also, considering CM10.1 is android 4.2, how would you go about restoring to stock since the sdcard pathways and some others are different?I think of going this way
Go to download mode, flash stock ROM, go to recovery, wipe user data and cache, and try to start the phone now.Is this good?
Format data sdcard system cache and preload ,then install stock rom .

Thank you.Can you also link me to the stock recovery?I want it to go back the way it originally was. so I can send it in.

If you flash a full stock Rom with Odin you'll downgrade to stock recovery.
I see.I forgot to mention, I also have a backup made by CWM from the stockrom, but it's in a different location now because it's been moved by installing 4.2.I have PhilZ touch recovery already installed on it.Is it also possible to restore from CWM(after wiping the beforementioned partitions, ofcourse)?
i'm just afraid to use download mode as I already have the faulty eMMC's and using DL mode triggers that.Or, getting stuck on NAND write start.
You can only flash stock roms via download mode, so its a risk you have to take. You can't use Philz or CWM to flash.
What ROM were you on when you first rooted?
I was on the stock 4.1.2 android and I still have a backup from it but like I said its now moved to the sdcard/0 path.I'm still on CM now and I have philz recovery atm.So is it possible to restore it like that?

If you were on stock 4.1.2 before root, you have a safe bootloader so you can use odin.
Sure you cab restore nandroid backups from recovery. That's the whole point of them.
It depends WHY you want to restore though. It's rooted and won't restore recovery so it doesn't restore warranty status. Its pretty pointless. Infact its entirely pointless. like I said, depends what you want. There is only 1 way yo restore it 100% stock, as previously mentioned

I appreciate your effort in order to explain that to me, so thank you for that.I know that when it dies it's dead for good, and I don't think they will be able to detect the software that was on it, so I have just put ARHD on it, I know it since the old days on Desire HD(which i still own), it runs great, both on the DHD and on this now. Thanks for your troubles, but I'm sure to return to 100% stock whenever now that I know this info.Thank you all!

Why use this ROM ???
For the simple reason that if you like having the latest official update without modifications to make things your way, but want to have bugs that lead often changes made by developers, if you want to keep track unlocking the bootloader (there were rumors that in an update could become blocked from using Bump! to release the bootloader and would lose all ability to install roms.
Features:
Last Firmware D855
Root & Busybox
Adblock Host
Removed gapps that are available in playstore (book, magazine, youtube, gmail, chrome, hangout etc.)
Disabled LG OTA (I will only disable firmware updates, the apps for the lg will be available without problem).
Installation:
Root & TWRP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/bump-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-d852-d852g-f400-t2900614)
Download Zip and copy
Reboot in TWRP
Full Wipe (Dalvik, Cache, System & Data if it is the first time you install, should be a next update reaches only to wipe cache and dalvik but mistakes is advisable to perform a clean installation)
Install Zip
Reboot
WARNING !!!!
The rom only contains what is described above, the rest is 100% stock. The installer performs the same only wipe system alone so the other wipes borne by each user.
Excludes bootloader and modem, only system and kernel.
