[Q] Wallpaper stuck on landscape after unplugging from Lapdock - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

...yes I STILL use the Lapdock
Anyway, after I remove my phone from the Lapdock it freezes and goes crazy for a few seconds as usual, but this time as well as others it seems to have left the wallpaper in a landscape orientation, even when I turn my phone upright for protrait orientation.
Have a look:
http://i.imgur.com/nbCcBtA.png
http://i.imgur.com/RjZsXsk.png
What is especially wierd is what you see on the second .png when I try to change the wallpaper to see if that does anything, the selector square has turned into a rectangle as if the phone was still on landscape. The icons, widgets and all else do rotate, just not the wallpaper. I am left with no other options as the settings for wallpaper on stock 2.3.6 leaves me only the option to change the backgroind image and it seems that I am the only one on the interwebs that is posting this issue.
The ROM and kernel is stock, I am using ADW Launcher but I am certain that that is not the culprit, I removed it but the problem persisted. I am also using Ubuntop 1.1 something or other but I doubt that is a culprit either.
Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

What happens after a battery pull?
Are you able to access recovery with the stock rom? just thinking about a dalvik wipe or a data wipe/factory reset? (maybe some bits of software not acting properly and a reset might help)
I don't have any experience with the Lapdock but maybe it is a software glitch?

The problem persists after a battery pull and re-insertion. Since it wasn't the VERY first thing I did, recovering the img of the current rom didn't work as the problem occurred BEFORE I saved a backup, although the problem DOES go away when do a from-scratch recovery using a fruitcake system/kernel/webtop img.
So would wiping the Dalvik cache not mess up my setup or anything? I may consider doing that as I'm not looking forward to doing a clean wipe every time this problem happens, and it happens VERY easily.
Thanks

Wiping Dalvik won't change any settings or cause any problems and it might help.
I am still thinking that your problem is a software glitch - one workaround might be to fix the wallpaper in the 'horizontal' position by unticking the 'auto-rotate' setting (not sure if this would effect your lapdock experience though )
One last workaround would be to reinstall your Rom without a data wipe (so all your settings/apps are still there) and see if that helps.

Dalvik cache is wiped and the wallpaper orientation option was ticked and un ticked but the problem STILL remains. I suppose my next step is to re-flash the ROM, but I'm hoping that doing so won't wipe and restore webtop to stock (it's on Ubuntop instead).
Here's another kicker! I don't have this problem on LIVE wallpapers, orientation works just fine there, only on static wallpapers am I seeing this issue.
Anyway, I've looked into debugging the display on the native OS to try to a fix together, I'll see how that goes...

How do other apps behave? Also stuck on landscape or not?
I'm thinking it could be a launcher issue after all if that's the only place where this is happening.

Thanks for the feedback,
The behavior of the other apps are good, no issue with them whatsoever.
I have already uninstalled ADW launcher and stayed stock for a few hours and that didn't resolve the issue. I shall do it agin but this time reman in stock for longer.
I got the launcher BECAUSE the stock home screen doesn't rotate and I prefer to mount my phone sideways in my car. What is baffling is that it DOES go to landscape orientation when I plug the phone onto the Lapdock. Weird.
I was wondering if anybody else had this problem but the more I search the more I find that I may be the only one with the isssue, thus I'm thinking it can be due to my personal phone setup rather than a glitch. If I DO find a fix, I'll put it up nonetheless...

I have the exact same issue with Atrix 4G and ADW launcher
I have the exact issue you described and I did the same but ni good results so far. The only difference is that i was using the multimedia dock instead of the laptop dock (which I was thinking to buy). I just got the phone yesterday and the dock today and when testing for the 1st time i got the wallpaper wrongly oriented.. any help?
I installed after that the wallpaper wizardii app to see if it could fix it but no luck..
Thanks a lot.

Buggy wallpaper configuration. Try this, it might help.
- Install GO Launcher EX and set your wallpaper.
- Every time after undock the phone, press menu > wallpaper > press lock and and unlock for few times.
It work for me.

Just to chip in that I had the same (or very similar) problem: Nottachtrix ROM, ADW Launcher, multimedia dock. Swapping out the launcher to GO Launcher EX per AeroMiku's suggestion has worked for me ... for the moment!

Wallpaper issue when rotating!

Whenever I set a wallpaper on my tab, after rotating and going back to landscape the background goes blank on half the screen. If I then rotate to portrait and back it resets but it's getting very irritating when this happens. Anyone else getting this or have any idea how to cure it? I even tried turning auto rotate off but still no luck. I also tried other wallpaper apps like wizardrii. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue on a certain rom and kernel combo.. Not sure which it was cause I have re-flashed both since then..
thanks for quick reply, sorry should of stated my tab is totally standard touchwiz with no mods.
I'm in the same boat here... I thought I found a fix the other day. I just disabled the screen rotation so my screen stayed in landscape. Worked for about a day or so.
I don't know much on how Honeycomb handles setting wallpapers but i get the feeling it has something to do with that wierd crop function Honeycomb uses.
I use ADWex as my launcher and it still dose it.
I did notice that on my eVo4g (running Gingerbread 2.3.5, using ADWex) that when I turn my eVo from portrait to landscape the wallpaper doesn't resize or reposition its self near as nice as on Honeycomb(when it works like it's supposed to). So much so that I started just using an all black wallpaper.
Most likely its something that can be fixed with some kind of a matinace update. I haven't gottin around to rooting Tab yet to see if it happens on other rooms, and maybe I can get around to it next week.

My wallpaper stopped rotating even though I set it to auto. I flashed the ROM I was using without doing a factory reset first and it got it working again
I had this problem to. Try using Wallpapyrus or Live Multi Wallpaper(wich i use now).
Never had that problem nomore.

[Q] screen wont rotate

ok here is the problem my screen wont rotate did a soft and hard reset and all only time it switches view are when i'am in the andriod market ,netflix and so forth ,but at the home screen everything is the long way now it cool when iam reading my book or my comic books and i think i can deal with it but i do like it when its the other way too any help with this problem would be great
Did you check settings, screen and auto rotate?
Or did you lock your screen with a setting in one of the launchers?
And how did you get your market and Netflix to rotate? Mine doesn't.

You need to be a bit more informative about the problem brother. Things like what model do you have( wifi only, 4G...) are you running a stock unrooted Tab or are you rooted and running a custom rom, if so which rom and are you using the stock launcher or a 3rd party one??? It'll help us to figure out what's going on.
Now after rereading your post a few times this is what I'm understanding. When you say "long ways" I'm assuming you mean portrait... right? That would mean that your Tab is stuck in portrait (longer from top to bottom and shorter from side to side) and the only time it jumps to landscape is when you go to Apps that are written to automatically switch to landscape when opened, like the Market and Netflix. You also say that you've done a soft rest (meaning completely powered off your Tab) and did a hard rest (meaning you did a factory rest) am I right so far???
If I'm on the right track with what I've posted above and this is assuming that your running a stock unrooted Tab and the stock TW launcher you could very well have a bad accelerometer. That's the sensor in side of our Tabs that tell it how your holding it. If you did a factory rest (hardrest) then that should have reset your Tab it exactly how it was when you took it out of the box. And auto rotation would be set on by default.
Go to settings> screen> and make sure you have "auto rotate screen" checked.
Hit us back with some more info so we can try and help out a bit more.

So far your right on...
Hey SouthPhilly...
I noticed this thread suddenly stopped.
I am having the exact same issue, and have done a reset to factory on my device and the screen still does not rotate unless forced to by an app.
Just wondering if you were going to launch in to a possible solution.
thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing here. I have the same issue with my GTab 7510..bleh!
wipe cache.
sometimes it works

[Q] Can't use screen while talking

While using stock ROMs up to 360 works fine. Every custom ROM or 40* ROMs cause these problem.
Once sensor was covered while call, display locks and doesn't unlocks until someone on the other side hang-up.
I've allready tried to wipe cache and reset everything. Calibration doesn't help too.
PS Sorry for my bad english.
It's a known problem, however some have reported that if you rotate the device from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) that it "unlocks" the screen.

It realy helps, thanks!
Did anyone figured out what is the reason of it? Is there a fix?
As far as I know, there is not a fix for it. We are stuck with this workaround for now.
Fortunately, I've found kind of a solution.
I've noticed, that if phone shows you any kind of notifications, display unlocks right.
So i searched an app that will show some. And it works!
For me cure is - "Notification Airtime" app (Free and available in market).
Hope it will be useful.

First real prime problem after WW update .15 and possible fix??? -Screen Flicker/Tear

Howdy kids,
I noticed today that my screen was flickering off the charts after the most recent update this morning to .15. I'm on a WW prime in Canada. BCOKAS serial. THe only real problem I've had is never-stellar wifi, and a nearly complete dead GPS.
Updated today, and the screen was flickering off the charts. I noticed first it was on the home screen. I had installed multi picture live wallpaper, to apply proper HD walls to my prime last night, but after extensive messing around I've never seen this flicker/tearing before.
Static lines horizontally, the status bar @ the bottom and top (ADW EX) would jitter a bit, and I was starting to freak out! Upon more review of the screen, it WAS in fact only happening on home. SO I disabled Multi pic live, and any transitions I had set last night. No good. Cold boot, Regular reboot, no good.
I noticed that the bottom status bar (with the home, back buttons, etc) looks slightly out of proportion, and my icons I had set up at the bottom row were overlapping the bar. I decided to try and switch back to regular Launcher (stock)
After clearing defaults, and switching to ICS launcher, everything returned to normal. Bar at the bottom was back to regular size. I re-loaded ADW EX, and everything APPEARS to be cool again. NO tearing, sizes of bars are good, my bottom row of apps is not overlapping the status bar. I'll report if the issue comes back, I'm at work so I can't play extensively, but I will reboot it now, with a fresh ADW launch and see what happens Hope this helps somebody out there!
I seems to me that maybe you should do the update on the stock launcher (assuming you were running ADW when you installed .15). Maybe the OTA doesn't like non-stock launchers running while doing updates.
I am messing around with ADW EX right now but don't have it activated as my permament launcher yet because I don't have it looking good yet. Thanks for the tips if I run into any problems with ADW.
ADW Ex was causing me problems a while ago, also ... I switched over to ICS Launcher and have not gone back. But, I still hold out hope to go back one day.
I've never had a problem installing updates on ADW before. Here's what I've come up with. I had to remove the Multipic. After rebooting, problem came back. I noticed w/ multipic enabled on ICS, it was weird as well. And I couldn't find the app in the app drawer either in ICS launcher.\
Removed multipic, and have rebooted a few times. ICS and ADW, no problems with flickering so far. Might try to reinstall multi later when I get home, but removing it has adressed the problem... just my wallpaper looks like crap on ADW again
I'm running multipic on ICS right now and when I am in ADW. I'm about to update now and let you know if I have the same issue with it. One thing I've noticed with multipic and ICS is when you come out of sleep mode the lock screen wallpaper would show up, fade out then come back. My home screen wallpaper would do it as well.
It's not unique to .15. Search the forum for triangle, jitter, dancing, flicker, or any other word you'd use to describe it.
I had this issues right after the original ICS update was pushed, and it somehow cleared itself up before I even had any updates. It happened to my friend as well on .14. It never seems to be a daily issues, just something that happens after a recent update, I don't have a clue as to the cause, however.
I've had screen issues since I received the Prime. It actually seems better now. But I also have access to the original Transformer and I noticed that after the ICS update this morning it also would occasionally have the same issues. On both devices I just see it periodically. Funny thing is, this is almost the only issue I've had with the Prime.
It happens once in a while, but certainly not every day. If left alone, it will resolve itself. If you want, you can reboot to make it go away.
No issues for me. I have used .15, with combination and ADW EX and Multipic live wallpaper. Both with random transition settings. Working fine. Stock launcher is what I normally use. No issues with stock launcher either.

I did do a search of the forums, but as I mentioned above, I haven't seen it until todays update. And its also odd, that it is happening after today's update, but the direct cause seems to be multipic
You're other comment doesn't make sense either. It'll work itself out? If I've never had the problem, and the cause was software based, how would it work itself out
Still haven't seen the problem come back, still planning on re-installing multipic later to see if something in the firmware doesn't like it.

My update was done with ADW running and have had no problems. I did a temp. unroot before update but things went smooth here. Serial # BCOKAS1xxxx. This build seems to be the smoothest so far.
Multiplication live wallpaper most likely the culprit. Its not fully optimized for ICS yet. Same thing happened to me several updates back. When I tried to use my adw launcher n multipic. Both caused issues so I uninstalled both n never looked back. No problems since.
Definitely going to chalk this up to Multipic, uninstalled, and have not seen the issue return at all. And agreed with demandarin, this build does seem a little snappier in browsers, I use nightly, and although its crashed a few extra times today, its definitely a lot faster picking up the tiles than it has been!
I also forgot to re-root after the update, which I have since done, thanks to OTA rootkeeper, I don't THINK it should have an issue, as I don't think multipic asked me for root, but just something to throw into the mix.

I don't know why it works itself out, but at certain points I've just left it alone because I didn't feel like rebooting at that moment. When I brought it out of sleep afterwards, the jitter had stopped of its own volition. I don't use any live wallpapers, fwiw. That doesn't mean it won't come back, but it went away on its own without my intervention. That's what I meant by "work itself out".

[Q] Question about locking

When I lock my tablet for later use it tends to glitch and appear blank (black screen, no functions work) forcing me to hard reset it by holding the power button down.
This does not happen every time, maybe 5%~10% of the time I lock my tablet this happens
Please help me as to how I can fix this! It's really annoying and I'm worried if hard resetting it so often can damage my tablet or not.
It's running on Android 4.0.3 currently
Is anyone else having the same problem?
Had the same problem or know what I can do to fix this?
If this is an unique case will it be covered under manufacturers warranty?
I get a blank screen randomly (can only see the wallpaper ). Not sure what the trigger is, but I don't lose all functionality. I can still use the multitasking button to run the apps that pop up and the back and home buttons still work.
Basically everything works except the launcher screens.
I am yet to find what causes this, but only a reset returns it back to normal.
Very annoying.

Sounds like a launcher problem. An easy fix may be to just try a new launcher. Go Apex or Nova launcher. ADW and GO Launcher are also options. Try one and if it persists, it's probably hardware related.

When you say go apex or nova launcher, is this an app I download from the play store?
I am technologically challenged so I really don't know much about tech terms, sorry.
@bk201, its 9.4.2.21 and I am not sure if its a stock rom or custom rom, how do I check this?
