[Q] Galaxy S2 root problems - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just for the first time rooted a phone. I made the mistake of going to galaxys2root.com.......Big mistake I see now after the fact. Anyway, after rooting was completed I noticed that my ATT 1777 now says its a GT19100 with a yellow triangle...it wont turn on, and now I feel totally screwed. Can anyone please help me? I can get the phone to download mode...but now my computer is not recognizing my phone thru usb. What can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Factory reset In recovery make sure usb is not plugged in.

Search is your friend. This situation has happened MANY, MANY times and there are tons of threads on how to fix it. There is also a 'Return to Stock' thread with a solution.

The phone is a 1777..but when i followed the directions it now says its a i9100....yellow triangle and will not turn on...only go into ODIN mode without my memory card. Any other help would be greatly appreciated.....i've only been working on this for about 11 hours now. I tried to get Max from root.com to help me but i guess he's busy.

This link should help you, IF you follow it to the letter. Try it and THEN come back and ask questions. I hope this helps, if so hit the thanks button. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294574

N00bies sure do .. :silly: (when we talk about the matter of asking for em..)
But on any forum, a suggestion / advice does take precedence depending upon the no of thanks/reps the author has.

First, don't give up and don't throw your $500 phone away.
Seeing the I9100 logo and splash screen with yellow triangle is expected behavior, caused by flashing a modified kernel, which is what you did to root.
As already suggested, the first thing to try is to enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. You enter recovery by holding all three buttons, volume + & - and power down continuously. If this doesn't work, there's more wrong than just flashing the zedomax I777 modified kernel.
Don't hold your breath expecting zedomax to help. He has dozens of websites like gs2r, and is spread quite thin trying to make money from them. He doesn't appear to be at all focused on helping other people, just himself.

I have almost the same problem. I have ATT Samsung Galaxy SII with ICS4.03. Tried to root it. Everything was going as is written in "Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 (AT&T): Root and ClockworkMod Recovery" by Ken East on Apr 20, 2012: I saw a PASS message in Odin3 so the process was successful? What I see on display now is Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. I was seeing it for more than hour: I am a patient man.
What I tried after were
1. Turned phone off and then turned it on to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign. BTW I could not even switch the phone off by pushing the Power button.
2. Took off battery and inserted it back to reboot. Nothing new: Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 and yellow triangle with exclamation sign.
3. Pushed those three buttons- volume up, down and power to find out some options. Seems to me it was Recovery mode. CWM- based recovery v.5.0.2.3 was written on display. I chose reboot system and was watching a beautiful grey hat with orange arrow under it for half an hour. I tried other options in the menu with the same hat as a result first but then I saw new screen with new options.
So what must I do now to make my phone to work again? I understood that zedomax do not usually help.

Quite simply your issue is that you were using kernel built for gingerbread and not ICS, therefore it wouldn't boot.
Selecting an item in that version is done with the home button as indicated in the stickies.
Flash a new kernel that is compatible with ICS and all these issues go away and you can boot it up.

Strange for me but after I've read the article-instruction of rooting two more times just now I did not see any indication that the kernel is for gingerbread and not ICS. How could I wait such an evil? And I've read already a lot of messages to forums but you are the first to suggest such dishonor. BTW in the instruction was written the following:
3.Put your phone in Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down key, Volume Up key, and the Power buttons at the same time. Once you see “Warning” displayed on the screen, press the Volume Up key.
That was the way I used.
Do you see any possibility to return the phone to life? It is not quite simply, as you wrote, to my pity. It is because the phone does not boot up and computer does not see it. How can I flash another kernel in such conditions?

hello everyone, i hope someone can help. i have the t mobile locked s2 (with gingerbread) with simple mobile as my carrier. to get rid of the tmobile apps i'm told the phone has to be rooted. i know nothing about rooting so in searching i found oneclickroot.com. it sounds as if that is easy for me since i'm not a techie. can someone tell me if this site is recommended and if i use it what would be the other steps needed to get rid of the tmobile apps and upgrade from 'gingerbread'....i really hope someone can help so thanks for the support in advance.

[q] help needed !!

Hi all,
I installed a kernel on my phone so that I was able to Root my device.
My phone was booting up and I saw the yellow explenation mark underneath the the Samsung Galaxy S II logo.
There's only one issue, my phone won't start, it freezes at the boot logo and won't do a thing :/
How can I fix this?
It freezes or is it in a bootloop?
If you got into bootloop, check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
see this !!!

It won't enter in Recovery mode,
When i hold down home, power, and volume UP the bootup-logo (Samsung galaxy S II ''With Explenation mark) shows up, than dissapears for 1 second than shows itself again and it's just freezes like it did before.
Now I never heard about a Boot Loop but this looks very disturbing.
I need some help with this.
Jeezus Christ, you joined today and already posted in the wrong section, didn't bother to read or search. So on that note I HOPE your device is Bricked just to serve you a purpose of reading before hand.
However since you are unable to read or search, we will treat you like a child. Your device is not bricked. Turn it off, take out battery, unplug from computer. Put back in battery and press volume DOWN, power and home until you get into download mode. Then plug into computer, start odin and either reflash the kernel in PDA box, or flash a stock rom.
Now this is been covered numerous times, so I will ask again to read next time before you post a question that has been answered 10000x times over.
Also if you would have read anything at all, you would know that you will get the yellow triangle when flashing any kernel but a stock on. There is a way to get rid of it, but that requires searching and reading. Something you know nothing about.

At first I would like for you to tone it down a little bit, I searched down the whole Internet, I just didn't now under what name I had to search.
Since I don't know the name of this particular issue, I couldn't find it on this website nor on the Internet (wich is obvious). So I started a treath to release my question.
Before claiming and occusing me of something, aks me the questions first.
You're judging a book by it's cover and your arrogance blind you.
But i'm not here to occuse people of something or giving them names etc, I'm here for some serious bussines.
Now...
I saw your answer (possible solution) and I wan't to thank you for this, I will give this a try and keep this treath updated.

Belittling him is, I assure you, productive only in YOUR universe.
What is with the freaking attitudes in XDA as of late? If you don't want to reply, don't. No one is forcing you to.
The kicker here: I'm just about as sick of seeing people post in the wrong area as I am about people complaining about people posting in the wrong area.

For me the logo showed up, disappered, showed up again and than it went in recovery. Hold those 3 buttons until phone goes in recovery mod, don't stop holding them.

You are wrong... step 2 says: Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.

No it won't go in Recovery mode unfortunately.
I think my phone is bricked as I noticed the ''Phone...!...Computer'' logo when I tried to start it up.
Can happen, now It's just the challenge to find the solution.
Perhaps I should go to the store and tell them if they can help recover it.
If you got any suggestion what I should do it would be wel used.
In the mean time I will earch on the Internet and the forums how to unbrick the phone by myself.
Note - I still can enter Download Mode.

Did you have a custom rom installed before you ended like this?
Did you even try DOWNLOAD MODE? You dont not need recovery. You need download to flash the kernel again or a stock rom.
VOLUME DOWN, HOME, POWER until you see the "downloading, do not turn off"
Then connect to odin and reflash the kernel in PDA

No,
It all happened after I installed a costum-kernel (The one that I need in order to root my phone) I followed the instuructions of a Youtube webpage.
I did root my phone before to try it out and it worked smoothly.
After I realised that I could so much once a SuperUser i wan't it to Root my phone again but it all went wrong when my phone was rebooting after I installed the costum-kernel.
I went into Download mode, I tried to install the latest firmware on my phone, yet it failed to do so, so i plugged out my phone, shut it off, turned it on and all of a sudden I saw the *Phone...!...Computer* logo wich (if i am correct) stands for a (Soft)brick.
I re-installed the costum-kernel and the Brick-Logo isn't visible anymore, but I'm back at the previous problem, The Samsung Boot Logo with Explenation Mark freeze issue.
Once I entered Download mode I noticed that Costum Binary Download is set to (Count 5).
I need a good tutorial how to fix this, I'm quite new with the Android (half a week)
Help is well appreciated.

you are really not giving a lot of details here...all you are saying you tried installing a rom and then it froze halfway..
Are you rooted firstly?
If you are have you flashed CF-root kernel?
How did you try to install the rom?
More info and then more people can help you out buddy..see if you can get into recovery and restart your phone.
well... if you've tried "every" (its not like there are a lot) button combination... then just go buy a jig from ebay and force it into download mode...

Nothing from what you said would help..
He obviously flashed it with Odin, and he said he's getting a yellow triangle with a computer behind it..
From what I understood, he could get into download mode.
So just boot into download mode and flash stock ROM. That should do it.

anyone else seeing an increase in the "i bricked my phone" threads?
dont think its coincidence they are increasing after the american variants have been released. People need to check what model they have before flashing things.
OP: not saying thats what has happened to you as you dont say if you have the i9100 or not, hopefully you do.

its ok and same goes by my post as well buddy..we all been in his position one way or the other
1st - Your phone is not bricked if it show an image. Whatever image it is. The only real software way to brick your phone is to flash bad bootloader or stop a bootloader while they are being flashed. However, Bootloader are flashed first. So if your phone stoped half way, you should not have trouble too much.
Remove the battery from your phone for like a minute, then reboot your phone in download mode (vol- + home + power and when the phone light up, release power.) Then flash another rom from odin.
Also, what rom did you used ? If you flashed a rom for another phone, then you might have flashed bootloader for that phone on yours, which is bad. In this case you will surely need a JIG.
sorry im new to this whole rooting/flashing thing. i downloaded the lightning rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
i have never rooted or doneanthing to my s2 before. all i did was follow the instructions on the page and thought it would be all good? it froze about a quarter of the way there in odin so i just took my phone out.
I usually find from this state I can get back to bootloader or download states
push and hold vol+ and home then power for bootloader
push and hold vol- and home then power for download
sometimes the phone can seem to freeze a little or even die (this happened to me loads on the galaxy s and once already on the s2) and removing battery sim etc or attaching the charger can jog it
however as other have said a JIG is your friend if for no other reason that even if you recover without it, custom roms up the rom count which some twitchy carriers might invalidate your warranty for, the jig will reset this
you can get them from ebay for less than £3 delivered, or there are instructions on this site for making them yourself if you are so inclined.
simply search 'galaxy s2 jig' on ebay mine was delivered today from portugal as I am way too lazy to make one and only wanted a counter reset anyway

AT&T Galaxy S II Black Screened

Agh!
I recently rooted my SGH-I777, flashed it using Clockword Mod Recovery, and then rebooted into recovery using CWM. But instead of rebooting into the recovery menu, everything went black. Now my phone won't reboot into recovery mode at all (not even with the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power combo). Instead, it gives me the Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 startup screen with the yellow triangle and then the screen goes all black, with quick flashes of dark gray.
When I removed the battery (to get it out of the black screen loop), returned the battery to the device, and plugged it in (without powering up the phone), the "charging" screen with the charging battery indicator flashed on the screen for a moment, and then back to all black flashes.
I removed the battery, SD card, and SIM card for about 20 minutes because I've read that can sometimes help. No dice.
I'm running ICS 4.0.3 with a Siyah 3.4.2 kernel.
This is probably either really bad or no big deal and I'm lame for not figuring it out, but... HELP! (Please? :fingers-crossed: ) I know this has been asked, but the other threads I've found have been able to get to recovery mode, whereas I can't seem to get to that point.
If you need any other info, let me know!

sounds like broken recovery.

The phone is not even entertaining the idea of giving me a menu of any sort at this point. Just all black screens. Super frustrating.

No d/l mode, no CWM. = brick.
no offense but im pretty sure your just not holding the buttons right.
CWM= hold both vol, then hold power, let the first screen blink once, come back, then let off power is my trick.
download, you can just hold vol buttons and insert USB belive.
Somebody used rom manager!

A-ha! Ok, so definitely no on the CWM combo, but I do get a menu using DL mode. Thank you. Seeing at least a menu made me feel much better.
I re-flashed the initial kernel, but no change. Still stuck in perpetual black screen boot loop.
I'm not opposed to doing a full-fledged wipe using Odin, if that's an option, but I've never looked into it before, and I'm currently feeling pretty gun shy when it comes to getting creative with any new tricks.

If you want stock, flash a stock ROM, or stock with root, with Odin.
If you want custom, after you flashed that custom kernel, you CAN get into CWM and flash a custom ROM.
and NEVER use ROM manager, hell it was a joke when it came out, sorry koush
EDIT:
and if you do go custom, dont forget to wipe data/factory reset in CWM before flashing.

You rock. Thank you a ton for being so patient!!
To any other fool who gets into the same mess, I went into DL mode (volume up + volume dwn + usb attached) and opted to let this do the rest of the work because it was the only option that didn't give me a heart attack: androidarea51.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii/samsung-galaxy-sii-(sgh-i777)-att-only/
From there, I had the option of rebooting, initializing a factory reset... all of the menu options I wasn't seeing when I couldn't figure out how to get into CWM mode. Good luck!!

I know, I know (and this is a dumb excuse, much like using rom manager in the first place), but the tutorial I was reading made it seem like it was a good option. I hadn't used it in forever and logic coupled with faith in a perpetually broken system paves the road to hell, but I figured, "There's no way it still sucks as badly as I remember!"
Don't think that. Ever. My mistake.
Charge the baterry externally thats what I did when my old infuse was bricked

Samsung Galaxy s2 i-777 does not turn on
okay so I read through this thread and I still don't know how to fix my issue. I rooted my phone using Odin v 1.85 and used siyah 3.4.2. I did it successfully and everything was good. I then gave the phone to my cousin and he said he performed a factory reset to get rid of everything on the phone ( contacts ,etc). Now when I turn on the phone it shows the samsung galaxy display with the triangle and then the screen goes black and just blinks. It still goes back into download mode I just dont know what to do to fix the problem. I know I'm a noob but please HELP!!!

Have you tried flashing back to stock using odin? BTW it is not good etiquette to necro a thread that has been dormant for almost 9 months.

Rooted i9300 no screen problem

Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.

[Q] iOS to Android and screwed up big time!

Hi there,
After two days of continuous efforts to resolve the issue and reading hundreds of articles and forum threads, I have tried everything to fix the problem to no avail.
I have just recently started using Android (Samsung Galaxy S3 I900T) It was purchased in New Zealand. When my iPhone died, I decided to try Android as I was getting a little sick of iOS. Anyway, since I am a total noob, I followed a great guide here on XDA forums to install a custom ROM. I installed Paranoid following step by step instructions and LOVED it. Everything was working well and I was happy with the "lollipop" as Jellybean was laggy and slow.
I then tried a couple of apps for various tasks that asked me to 'root' the device. I did not really care for it until Cleanmaster asked me to. So I installed an app (can't even remember the name) and it rebooted the phone. Now it is just stuck at "Samsung Galaxy SIII" white logo.
I tried to go into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home button + power and it simply won't work. Pressing volume down button however does bring the "Download mode".
According to many articles I have read, it seems my phone is soft bricked. Is there anyone who could help me to fix my phone? I am desperate and would highly appreciate any assistance! Please be kind as I am new to Android OS and pretty much a noob.
I will be checking for replies every 30 minutes in anticipation there might be someone knowledgable here to help me out.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may need to assist me and I will try my best to answer them as technically as possible.
Thank you in advance!
PS- I beg your pardon if I posted this in the wrong section or if I have not given enough information.

Hi Tallman, thank you for your response. I am currently downloading the recommended firmware (916 MB, 2 days left till completion )
While its being downloaded, I have another question: whenever I connect my phone in "Downloading mode" by pressing volume down + home + power, Odin does not even pickup on the device. It is almost like nothing is even connected. I have installed the latest Samsung driver on my PC.
Would the flashing work if Odin is not even recognizing or acknowledging my device?
Thanks

You have to wait while your stock rom is checked and in the pda box then it should recognize it look here for guides >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/guide-odin-flash-guide-t1671969 << Also I noticed in your first post you put Galaxy S3 I900T did you miss spell S3 I900 because it should be S3 I9300

Indeed, that was my bad. That is why I am so glad I have finally found someone like an expert yourself. The model is GT-I9300T. I missed the 3 in the original post. I believe (I might be wrong) the 'T' is for all the phone sets issued by Telecom (now rebranded as Spark) in Australia and New Zealand.
I have managed to download around 16 MBs lol.
Once again, appreciated your help dude :good:
My suggestion is connect your phone and keep it with Samsung kies for recovery. It would bring your phone back to purchased state.

Thanks for the response.
Kies does not detect any phone. Could it be due to the fact that the bootscreen is stuck in loop? I was loving my Custom paranoid ROM until some motherlicking app forced booted the phone in order to "root it".
I do not want to switch back to iOS and thats why I am so desperate to get my S3 fixed. I have put my SIM in my iPhone until Galaxy gets fixed.
Its strange how much I supported everything Apple back in the and how I much I dislike it now. It's like I have divorced Apple and now my Android mistress is acting up too. :silly:
Odin is too sensitive i guess i too have a s3 GT-I9300 and i have noticed that all usb cords dont work on odin. Try to change the cord it works. The shorter the better. It will surely detect just change the usb cord or try to connect to another usb port.
