Root: HTC Butterly - HTC Droid DNA

Hi All. I tried to rrot my HTC Butterfly(X920d). Everything went well from unlocking bootloader to installing recovery and SU. But when I installed Root Checker it says "Sorry! This device does not have proper root access.". Is that it and it did fail to root?

sounds like you didnt correctly install superuser

Do I just re-try the process?
Edit: It says Successful in Bootlaoder. Is it possible that Butterfly(X920d) is still unrootable?

did you try any other apps that require root access ?
why fix it if it ain't broken ?

I think it worked. I just re-installed SU. Now I'm trying to find out how I can make my htc Butterfly read Internal and external storage the other way around.
Edit: Now it says root failed again. WTH???!!!

I have this problem before and now after flashing this rom (the one for x920d) the problem gone away
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095683
Get it a try it is faster than stock rooted one

And thats why I just wiped the whole damn thing and installed Virtuous ROM ... very v happy i did that

hi guys, do you know a guide for rooting htc butterfly x920d?

Unlock the normal htcdev way and install twrp recovery from here -
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/142
Use any supersu zip to root it ... Note that the stock Rom doesn't like to stay rooted and gives trouble after some time , so better install custom Rom instead like virtuous
If you need a noob guide look in the android development forum for sticky

I've succesfull rooted a droid dna last week, now I've a butterfly... only know if the procedure is the same as DNA.
I have to use the same instruction and files?

I think this is what I'm experiencing. I thought I was rooted, then it wasn't. Then no looks like I am again. Also I'm having a problem I think with the recovery. When I try to go to recovery to access SU the screen goes nuts and shows multiple colors in lines. Does anyone know if a factory reset will solve this?

[Q] How to undo the official Asus unlocker with a Prime?

Hi all,
I have a Transformer Prime and unfortunately I used the "official" unlock (APK) supplied by ASUS. Now I got the message "The divice is unlocked" when it boots up but I am not able to use TITANIUM BACKUP and other tools anymore because the viperMOD PrimeTime v4.1(program to unroot) also always fails.
So it seems more to be a boot unlocker but the same time it prevents the deivice from beeing rooted! WHAT A MESS!
Is there any possibilty to undo the prodedure to get an unlocked device again an then to use viperMOD PrimeTime v4.1???
Any help would be very very appreciated.
Happy Easter from Germany
Hans
PS: another prob is that after unlocking I am not able to perform VIPERMOD to root the device (there are some issues with Su Binary). It would help if somebody could teach me how to get unrooted again because without Titanium Backup and other Apps I feeling lost :=)
Unlock Cannot be undone, viper mod should work either way if that doesnt work search for sparky root apk its an alternative root method you can find in the development section
- Cheers
It doesn't work with me

Sorry to say it doesn't work. On step 2 there is a message:" SU file does not exist or have correct permissions ... click INSTALL again to install anyway"
I clicked INSTALL (#3) ==> MEssage "Successfully installed Superuser app"
Then I clicked CLEANUP(#4)==> "Cleanup success"
EXIT
But Titaium say: NO ROOT PERMISSION
Do you can imagine what went wrong?
All the best and greetings from Germany
Hans
PS: I have Build# 2.4.2.21
Maybe this tool doesn't work with that

AFAIK, there is no root for *.21 yet. As someone else said, now that you have an unlocked bootloader, you can just load a custom ROM to gain root. I think that I saw one here that described itself as a stock stock custom ROM, if you want to stay with a stock ROM for some reason.

Rooting with HTC Desire X All-In-One Toolkit V1.1

As I have no access to the development forum I have to start a new thread here.
Trying to root the device using "Rooting with HTC Desire X All-In-One Toolkit V1.1" did not really work for me.
Problems with CWM:
1. Backup can be completed. But when trying to restore it, there will be a MD5 error.
2. Screen is corrupted.
Problems with SuperSU:
3. When started, SuperSU says it needs to update the SU-Binary. But this update fails.
4. Trying to delete some system apps using Titanium Backup or Root Explorer seems to work, first. But after reboot all changes are gone.
So the device only looks rooted, but it is not.
MD5 error is actually a known bug in the build. You can disable that.
Have you tried backing up, wiping and install my stock deodexed ROM to see if that works?

I'm also experiring random reboots (once in 2-3 days). I'm not sure if rooting is the reason..

One random reboot? It shouldnt be from rooting. All root is 1. the SuperSU app. 2. the Root binary. that should have no effect at all.

Yes, I also tried this ROM. It behaves in exactly the same way as if I install SuperSU myself.
One small problem
After rooting my Desire x I cant install regular update because it´s opened with different flash manager which says this is an untrusted package.
When I press Yes (Install untrusted package) it starts and after like 5 seconds it aborts and jumps back to recovery mode.

Thanks but I tried that and ,nothing, I can boot into cwm and install superuser but i still dont have root
This should do the trick for you. It's from BlownFuze's dev thread and I've used it twice to clean up my phone after flashing so many ROMs.

I just remembered that there is a newer TWRP version than what his thread will have you download, but 2.5.5.0 will work just fine

LOST ROOT

Phone has been fine, rooted with cwm5.5. This is wifey phone so I keep messing with it at a minimum. At some point I noticed it no longer has root. It runs stock 4.1.2. With a couple of root apps - such as AdAway-which is no longer working and has error message "Either subinary could not be found or you did not allow root permissions for AdAway"
Superuser app has this error "There are currently no superuser app policies." then "Superuser binary must be updated" attempting to update results to error "There was an error installing superuser. "
I rooted the phone again with the same CWM ver. file. attempted to flash superuser but it errored and aborted installation. I rebooted and installed rom manager so that I could update CWM. That errored out as well. Root verifier confirms there's no root on the phone. I have installed busy box but it has the same error message no root access.
I thought to root with CWM ver 6.0.4.6 but installation aborted. I tried TWRP but it aborted as well. Only CWM 5.5 works which my normal routed is then to flash superuser, install rom manager and then have it update to CWM to ver 6.xx. But his time none of these is working. How do I regain root?

Initially I had actually, but camcorder issues, modems with sporty service ... we a deal breaker. Si I just restored it to stock with kies to avoid more lip. Only thing I did was root the stock so I could install a few apps such as AdAway. I don't plan to do stock on this unless I can get get rooted stock rom.

When I rooted my phone I was wary of using methods that would have me going through either download mode or having to install a custom recovery (which eventually became pointless since I had to do both to flash roms anways lol) but at the beginning I was trying to use something simple.. while googling I stumbled upon this http://www.kingoapp.com/ and rooted from there.. it's like a one-click root kind of thing and seems to keep the root working regardless.. maybe you wanna check it out and see if it helps, in case you loose your root again. If you wanna run your phone stock but rooted, at least after doing the restoration via keys you'll keep the stock samsung recovery.
Hope it helps!

I know, it doesn't show our device, but I kind of went with the home page "root all devices" statement they had and it worked perfectly fine. I did the same with my sister's Note 2 t0ltetmo which is in fact a canadian Videotron phone I gave her and worked fine too. I do not believe that that Note 2 is in the list either, but it still worked

Hey it worked some - I decided to test it on my old Captivate. The only thing is it doesn't install CWM/TWRP or similar. So I cannot install a custom ROM. Is it not supposed to install a custom recovery? If not how do I do that having rooted with Kingoapp?
Thanx again for suggesting this app.

My pleasure, and glad to hear it worked! And no, lol, sorry. The app only roots your phone, but it does not install a recovery. The good thing about it is that at least you can run stock and use any rooted apps, like I do with my Asus HD7 (for which, unfortunately I haven't found either a custom recovery or a custom ROM to flash, so I run it stock but mess around with root apps)
However..
I looked into this Galaxy Captive thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547997 and didn't find a recovery itself that could be downloadble.
So while googling I stumbled upon this: http://true-android.blogspot.ca/2013/10/how-to-install-custom-recovery-in-most.html.
I my english is good enough to understand, it would seem as if the goomanager app allows u to install recoveries directly from your phone, so you could maybe try if you wish.. If u do, please let us know how it worked, as I'm sure others also would benefit from this.
If you want a CWM recovery for either the Note i717, the Note2 T889 or the S2 T989 let me know and I'll upload them, as those are the only ones I have ATM.
Cheers!

Root for ZTE Max Duo? (Z963VL Straight Talk)

So a few months ago I bought my first Android phone in years, a ZTE Max Duo from Straight Talk. Unfortunately, since then I have found absolutely nothing about the phone on forums like this, let alone any way to root it. Has anyone managed to root this phone, and if so, how? I don't have regular access to a PC, but if the only way to root it is through a PC, I might ask for permission to use one.
I am looking for the same with this phone.. It seems like a great piece of hardware thus far bit could use some tweaks that a root could certainly take care of but no info whatsoever.. Any help with this would be great.
I figured out how to root the ZTE max duo (z963vl) via (iroot) I have the exact file and can tell u what to enable for root email me at [email protected] il send the file
Any Success?
It looks like there are a few variants of this device. I have the Imperial Max that is sold on US Cellular. Exact same phone and specs except for the radio.

I would like a copy of that file if you still have it and don't mind sharing it.
Man I've been trying to find any custom ROM or something that can get me to 6.0+ or 7.0+ because I can't deal with 5.1.1
But after searching relentlessly it seems that it doesn't exist.
I've been trying to find a ROM we could port over but that's looking grim too. I made a request over at CM so hopefully someone gracious enough will make one.

KingRoot now roots the phone but the bootloader is still locked!
The ZTE max duo LTE (z963vl) can now be rooted via KingRoot but only temporarily. When you reboot the phone you will lose root. You can not make any system changes either still because the bootloader is still locked after root. You can not update BusyBox either. Also when you root the phone with KingRoot it says "This model restricts root authorization". To fix that error just completely close KingRoot and re-open it and it will fix the root authorization error. Dev's or anyone for that matter please help unlock this phone's bootloader please I really want to start getting custom roms and recovery for this phone plus I want to be able to write to /system. I hope this helps as much as possible and I hope the bootloader will become unlocked with all the Devs help. Also I did this with the apk version of KingRoot only because I do not have a PC.
Great news...

This is a good start... hopefully something comes of this... God I want this phone rooted!!!
Hmmmmm...
So I tried Mardeys method and it did root like he said... installed su superuser and root checker... they worked... busybox wouldn't install... restarted my phone and lost root... so I did it all again then just powered off my phone and started it with power button and volume up... took me to recovery screen with a few options... one being sideload with adb...
I am new at all this so don't know if that helps but would love to get this thing rooted...

Which superuser app are you using? The one by ChainDD just crashes when I run it, and SuperSU keeps saying the binary needs to be updated but fails when I try to do it.

Wall here's what my whole setup was... I ran King root... It said I was rooted but didn't restart my phone... I installed superuser and ran it... This is the one I used... Supersu by chainfire... I installed busy box also but had the same problem about need to update binary files blah blah blah... I then installed a root checker and said I was rooted... Super su was found and busy box... Still no reboot... So I tried installing a few root apps... I installed a app remover for bloat were and it worked... But... When I reboot my phone I lose it all... And can redo it all again but it won't stay on there... Not tech dumb but don't know enough to figure it out... Hopefully that helps you a little as far as what my experience was... Like I said before... If I boot into recovery there is an adb sideboard option so... Just hope it gets figured out soon... Would love to have this rooted with a good room on it.... Starting to think it's a hopeless cause... One more thing to add... While rooted I installed a boot manager to see if it would go into a deeper boot recovery mode at restart but it didn't...
I honestly wish I could swap out Kinguser for something else. SCR ScreenRecorder Pro doesn't seem to realize that there is root, even after granting it permission through Kinguser, which leads me to believe either I'm not actually rooted, or KingUser is garbage.
Does anyone have the firmware for this phone?
No answers? Nothing?
Did you guys try $su reboot disemmcwp in a terminal after rooting? That's always the next step on ZTE phones.
Going to try that now... Can't find a copy of the firmware anywhere however. Worries me in case I need to reflash

Just tried it myself, but after it's done rebooting, the root's still gone.
Edit: I've noticed that the XDA Labs app seems to think this is a ZTE Blade. Perhaps I might have some luck there?
