I know you can get apps to use your android as a mouse for a PC, but can you get one to control the other via Bluetooth? For example, my girlfriend and I would watch videos on my GS2 hooked up to the TV while we use her GS2 to start/stop playback, navigate to videos, or control the volume.

I am using an Android media player on my television. And I would really like to use my Android phone as an 'airmouse' kind of like the Nintendo WII controller. There are apps for this, but only that use Windows or OSX as server. Like Sensor Mouse. Isn't there any free app that does the same, but runs on another Android device in stead of Windows?
I don't know if Droidmote does this, but I don't care much to pay for software. I don't care for piracy either, so DroidMote is not an option. I am a Linux user. I pay for my hardware. If you are a Linux users, try the DroidMote Server for Linux is FREE, and if you want also the DroidMote Server for Windows is FREE.
But I'm sure that after trying these two servers for free, you will buy also the server for Android

If I read the description correctly, this is a touchpad type mouse and keyboard. It does not mention anything about gyroscope or sensors.
But I will check it out nontheless. If I cannot find a gyro controller, I can use this too.

I disagree. First, give me your Ferrari, and you lose a Ferrari. Society gained nothing. But give me your software, and you still have your software. On average, society just got technologically richer for free.
Second, society needs freedom. Hollywood-class VFX software Blender? Free. Hollywood-strength video editing? Free with Lightworks. Linux, which is worth nearly 11 billion dollars, is given away for free. Without it, Android, which is also free, couldn't even exist. And you want me to pay for a frickin' mouse driver?
If I wanted to pay for software I'd buy an Apple. If I wanted to pay for apps I'd buy an iPhone.

Sorry, both Droidmote and LANmote don't do this due to usability issues.
If you are willing and able to code the HTML5 portion to detect the phone's accelerometer/gyroscope and test it extensively on different Android phones with different Android firmware/versions. We might be willing to add this feature for you... Though you would still need to buy the paid version to remove the lite version limitations.

Well, find a way to use Google TV's remote to control your phone then...
The KB/mouse/remote feature is there for free if you can get the server part running somehow

Ok guys, I have done some hunting on the internet for a way to use my Android Tablet as a display for my PS3.
Now I am sure some of you are thinking "That's an effing great idea blorenzo, you are so awesome and wise" while others are thinking "why do you want to do that?"
To put it simply, for example say I am playing PS3 in my room (where my PS3 is located) but feel the sudden urge to defecate (take a ****) I can bring my Tablet into the bathroom with me, prop it on something and keep playing. (This is literally the event that gave me this idea)
On top of that say I want to play PS3 in the living room but am not in the mood to bring the entire unit downstairs, I can bring down my Tablet and plug it into the TV and boom! Or better yet say my girl wants me to watch a TV show with her that I am not into (Jersey Shore) then I can bring down my tablet and a PS3 controller (bluetooth reaches for me) and pretend I'm browsing the internet while I am really playing Killzone online.
You see in that situation it is a win/win, she thinks I'm spending time with her and I am actually having a blast killing people. I am sure there are many more uses for such an application and I could list them endlessly.
If it exists already someone point me in that direction if it doesn't... I think someone has ALOT of work ahead of them.
That's really a lot of work. Would the ps3 have built in drivers to transmit image through bluetooth? I think no, you'd need a modded ps3.

Ya that's what I was thinking, I remember checking out my PS3 stuff through my PSP (Checking messages and stuff) on any wifi network, but it was pretty slow and limited, no games or really anything other than the web browser and messsage box. Maybe there will be something better with the PS Vita.

this guy here seem to have done what you want http://ps3maven.com/portable-ps3-mod/ and to everybody who said it cant be done in your face
to do this with an android tablet you would need two things:
1. you would need a wireless HDMI bridge (they're expensive, but something like this: http://goo.gl/z53fL)
2. You would need someone to make a mod/app for the tablet to convert HDMI out port into an HDMI in port. This would be done in either via an app or a mod to the actual kernel and how it uses the HDMI port. AFAIK most android tablets have an Mini HDMI port on them.
Doing these two things would give you wireless signal to your tablet anywhere that is within range of the HDMI bridge.
Nice, thanks for the reply's guys and now we know for a fact that its not impossible. If we only had a Dev who could see that this would be an awesome application for a tablet and come up with a way to achieve it.
Or Sony could just release this app officially, I would gladly pay for it.

I think HDMI in for a android tablet would be sweet! Think of taking car trips with a xbox or ps3. Or any of the many other devices you could plug in!

i have limited background in this, but was looking for the same thing. and everyone is saying it is not possible. Bluetooth is entirely plausible... plus the bandwith is **** so the image would either look good, but have about 2 frames a minute, or look like **** and be mostly playable. however, the PSP and PS Vita can do something similar over the network. if someone can rip the "Remote Play" bit out of a vita, and toss it in some sort of emulator, it might work. but the PS3 controller would likely have to be connected to the tablet.

Use VLC to stream the incoming video and audio over your LAN in a format that your tablet can play. Play the stream via the media player on your tablet. Done.

I was actually thinking of a device that did the same thing (PS3 or other video source to tablet). Have you found any products like this out there yet?
I understand what AmnzeroCorrosion is saying as to how that path may work, but I think this glosses over some technical challenges. Using most video capture cards will introduce latency b/c most video capture cards encode to MPEG. While being very efficient in bandwidth usage, MPEG uses interframe comrpession so it takes a couple frames of video being input before the first frame can be sent over the network. Couple that with network delays and the latency only increases. I wouldnt see it taking much before the latency of the setup would make it unbearable for fast twitch games.
I would be extremely interested to know if this has been tackled already.

I hook up ps3 to computer using easy cap usb. So can't we use an otg usb to phone plug in and plug easy cap.

I've been meaning to ask the same question... I can't find and WHDMI kits for micro HDMI ports, and even the full-sized ones are bulky I'm hoping there's a better alternative that using a full sized one with a converter...
Currently I can't think of any products that I'd recommend or advocate.
WHDI is the technology currently being backed by several manufacturers as being "the answer" to High Definition streaming, but currently the number of compatible devices is exceptionally low.
The only product that I can come up with that is even close to what you're after would be this:

You'd need a micro-HDMI->HDMI dongle as well and I'm not 100% sure it's compatible with Android devices, I'm not capable of checking from my work desk.

Thanks for the advice, but personally that device is way too hefty for me, and probably too expensive too.
I'm just about to move and am fine connecting my prime to the tv in the lounge using a cable, but that's not going to work in the bedroom. As I need to buy a TV anyway, would some sort of smart/wifi tv offer a (streaming/rdp) solution?
AppleTV is the only consumer product that I have heard of that provides this ability using Airplay Mirroring.
I recently read that there is a solution in beta that feigns Airplay onto Android devices, but I highly doubt it actually has mirroring, and can only be specific to iTunes supported media formats.
I only wish that Roku follows up on this idea and implements it into some of their models. Being able to directly compete w/ Apple at not just using streaming channels like Netflix but provide WiFi streaming from Android devices would be an instant hit.
Now when Google TV actually hits consumer hardware, you should be able to use something like iMedia Share to stream between two android devices. I stream my videos and music wirelessly to my PS3 using iMediaShare and it works pretty well, just doesn't have many options. All it really does is sets up a media server between the Prime and PS3. Luckily, the PS3 handles media servers very well.

I have just brought a transformer prime and have to say it is awesome, but I have one question, as an it consultant i do a lot of work remotely something I am currently doing using a laptop with windows rdp.
Can anyone recommend a solid fast rdp client for my droid so I can finally kick the windows laptop into touch.
I would prefer a free one but dont mind paying and the only criteria is that it can connect to VNC\RDP connections with Network Level Authentication(NLA) and actually be useable to control windows and linux boxes.

I have been using splashtop and it runs great, all of the hardware that i have tried out so far has worked like the touchpad. it also lets you log in with your google account so you dont have to mess with port forwarding and dynamic dns, it just finds it automatically. its pretty cheap too from what i remember. I use it almost daily. in fact i believe the splashtop server is available directly from ASUS's site.
i believe it does do RDP but if you are looking for a strictly RDP client then i think remote desktop client by xtralogic might suit you better i believe it runs about $15. not sure on the linux boxes for either client tho.
maybe someone else might know of a good free one or something that might work a little better. usually most of them have a free version or a 15-30 day trial.

My money is on Jump Desktop. Tried them all and this is the best. VNC and RDP. Full mouse support incl. right click and scroll wheel. Works great with the dock keyboard.

I was curious to see if anyone has or heard of a ROM optimized for use as a dedicated media center or HTPC for our "old" or broken screen phones? I have 2 GS2s that I'm not using and the specs on them are better than a lot of the smart tv boxes like boxee, roku, etc.
I was thinking of a wi-fi only ROM that would output to 1080p, have VNC, network storage on boot, netflix, hulu, XBMC, bluetooth keyboard, game emulators, video calls via the rear camera, maybe GTV apps, etc, etc.
I know you can piece together something that could work via apps and configs but I was looking for something that would optimize the hardware for such a purpose.
Maybe a new CM branch...that would be amazing! Someday...

It's not cheaper than a GS2 with a cracked screen that you already own. It also appears that those boxes are basically lessor powered android smartphones without the screen and battery to keep cost down. I'm not looking to spend money, I'm looking to use what I already have.

It seems like anything you could do with a Raspberry Pi you could do better with the better hardware and the an abundance of sensors in "old" smartphones. Anyone have any ideas at all? Fileservers, wireless repeaters/mesh, RADIUS server, NAS, etc. Just looking for non phone build optimized for non phone call purposes.
I agree that it would be better you use one of these "usb android media centers" that are relative cheap(and i think that it cost less than your SII sell price). I`m really waiting for something like this for rPi!

I would like to play around with some emulators (PPSSPP included) with a USB controller I have and watch some anime ^^ I'd also not like to spend in excess of ~$35 (max $45)
Any good cheap boxes that can do that? Preferably that support Lolipop since I love its UI.

RK3188 drives my LighInTheBox mk809iv. It's got 2GB RAM, 8GB EMMC, a full sized USB 2 port, hdmi, microSDXC port, runs KitKat 4.4, comes with Kodi pre-installed. I rooted it with Kingoroot.com, so that I could run a vnc server on it. I remote control it with my phone which running the free Valence app, or sometimes I remote it with Screen Sharing on my Mac. It plays nicely, and I get decent enough Wifi speeds. It's run everything I have thrown at it. A quick search for mk809iv will bring up a whole lot of these devices, even some with 16gb EMMC. Some will arrive pre-rooted, others will not. Look for Realtek Wifi for best compatibility if you intend to flash it (which requires a PC). It is fun to play with, but looking back on the experience, I'd rather have had a small Android phone with MHL/hdmi-output, as it would have been much easier to set up if there was a screen on the device itself. Yep! Any suggestions regarding TV apps, websites with TV shows, forums for TV boxes and input devices? I don't really think the bundled remote would be something I'd wanna use. I've seen wireless small keyboards with trackpads, do you know anything about them?

The forum I use for my Android devices is usually XDA, right here.
I used a USB keyboard and a mouse to set mine up.
For the record, I rooted my MK809 IV, which has an rk3188 SOC running KitKat 4.4, with Kingo Root, to allow me to run a VNC server, because I use a free Android app called Valence on my phone as a wifi trackpad/mouse and use my phone's keyboard to type on the Android TV. Root allows me to use the free RemoDroid app to control my Android TV from my phone or tablets from anywhere in my house.
Kodi comes on mine, and it's a free app in the Play Store anyway. I tried to set it up last April, but it kept crashing. If you are into that sort of thing, it is a very capable media server for sure.
For playing local files, I think MX Player is the champion app.
I ultimately bought a Logitech k700 keyboard with built-in trackpad to use with mine - I purchased it refurbished on a Newegg special for fifteen dollars! I take that keyboard everywhere with me. I love it. I prefer to use an actual mouse, but since I bought the k700, I have not missed mice enough to actually plug one in. I like it because it is nearly full-sized, but still compact, and it comes already set up to use a single USB wireless dongle. Range has been great, and after almost a year I am still on the first set of batteries.
Just today I was looking into purchasing the remote that came with your TV box, so please, let me know if you like it.
I bought a Hubman USB 2.0 hub in case I need more ports. It seemed like a good idea to have it, but I have not actually plugged it into the Android stick yet. I'm sure it will support a mouse, keyboard & usb thumb-drive just fine.
I don't want to go too far off-topic, so if it's okay with you, I'll pm you a list of apps I use for video. Nothing seems to slow down my aging rk3188 quad. Your rk3368 octa-core is going to be fantastic! Would you please post a link to the auction? Even if the auction is closed, I'd love to take a look at the device. The price you paid is unbelieveable!

I haven't really been watching TV or movies lately. When I've had free downtime, I've been playing a roll-playing game that's called Skydoms. I didn't think I'd get hooked on it, but then I did.
How is that box working out for you?
