"Your device is not compatible" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was just wondering why some games on the market say "your device isn't compatible" when I try to download them. I'm sure there is a good reason for this, but could someone enlighten me?

I'm guessing the developer just hasn't added it to the list of compatible devices. Might try emailing the developer.

If you mess with your DPI settings you will get that error also. If you are stock then the developer of the game has not updated it yet.

Sorry to be noobish but what is DPI?

The dpi settings is what lets you change how the screen looks for example tablet mode. You would of had to change your build prop to make that change.

DPI = dots per Inch
It's a measure of display resolution. A higher number is typically associated with higher image quality but dpi isn't the only factor involved with image quality. There are also other factors involved such as display size, display technology, the original resolution the image content was created with, the original aspect ratio the image content was created with and how those original factors are translated if required to the final viewing display situation.

Hey Brudda, so I'm on Beans build 7 and right when I flash his rom I go straight to turning this bad boy into my tiny tablet. I love the little tablet look but like you said some apps in the market will show up not compatible for your device. I want to keep the tablet look and feel, is there a way around this so the app will be compatible?

Try downloading your apps from play store before changing your dpi. Once you get your apps on your device I dont think the dpi change will break them.

[Resolved] Market: "this app is incompatible" - WHY?!

I keep getting "This app is incompatible with your Evo" from the Android Market website and the market app (3.1.5) just doesn't give me a download button or show me updates for newer versions of some apps. It was mostly just an annoyance for a while but now the latest Facebook update came out and it won't install. I'm running CM7.1RC1 which is Android 2.3.4, although I never recall having this problem until I updated to the latest Android Market.
I'm also wondering if there's any good way to troubleshoot why the market thinks my device is incompatible with a particular app (like some sort of reason ... android version too high, screen resolution, etc).
Solution: It turns out this is because I had modified my DPI to set it to 210 instead of 240. Once I set it back to 240 the market showed me 17 new updates. It looks like they're checking to make sure the DPI checks out ... bummer.
I installed CM7.1 nightly 202 and I was able to change my DPI and still use the market without problem. It seems there is a fix as of nightly 198 or so.
Some apps are incompatible because of variation in geographical regions... I think the one you are trying is not available for your region/country....
Thanks, but I'm in the US and that's not it. It works fine on the stock ROM, same phone. I'm looking for how to troubleshoot. Is there any way to see what the app restrictions are?

I don't think we would be able to see the app restrictions..only a developer can see it in the console..
if you're using any kind of density changer, it can cause "not compatible" issues.

Hm, I had edited my density in build.prop. I just changed it back to the default and that fixed it! Hallelujah! Thanks for the help.
Now, does anyone know of any way to have my cake and eat it too (that is keep my higher density and still get app updates by tricking the market somehow)?

Not gonna happen unless you can find a way for the market to detect a denisty setting other then what is in your build prop.

Changed DPI. Is there a market fix for it?

Like the title says. Changed from 320 to 280. Now I can't get access to all apps.

I can't say for sure on the note, but I had a similar problem with my NookColor after changing dpi. You may want to try one of the "standard" dpi's like 240. Apply and reboot. May have to clean the market (Google play store) cash too.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 2
There are a few roms that have the multidpi fix especially if useful if you are running tablet mode.

I am having the same problem as well. Currently still looking for a fix to this problem as I am not able to have access to all my applications. I'm pretty sure, as of now, the only ROM that has the DPI-FIX implemented into it, is the hybrid_rc_IV. but i'm not running that rom...any help would be appreciated also!
yes this works for the note, install then goto fix marketplace and it will download the market and the framework and install, then reboot, u can even change the density also, this works for me. u need to move to ur sdcard and install using a file explorer and make sure under settings->Security and unknown sources is checked so u can install the apk.
download: LCD Density Modder Pro.apk
Yes
There is a way you can change it. Theres a couple of apps, but some of them do not work. And will cause you to re-flash your rom if your phone is rooted!

I don't have a sgs3 yet, still waiting. But I know when I got my ICS tablet, there were a bunch of apps I had on my Gingerbread phone, that were not available on ICS. Many of those apps were subsequently updated to be compatible with ICS and then were available in the Play store on my ICS tablet. I can't speak to those specific apps you mention.

Try changing it to 320 with the build prop editor - seems there is a bug in build prop tweaks which doesn't let you return to stock density values.
Failing that, reflash with full wipe.
Should sort it.

Biult.prop tweeks?

Are there any tweeks that can we put or change in our rooted Atrix with 2.3.4 stock rom???
Hmm you can change the lcd density. I like to have it between 200 and 220. Stock is 240. Make things look sharper in my opinion.
If someone has tried other tweeks let us know in this post...

I believe you should not mess with the density settings. Otherwise you can face compatibility errors with apps in play store.

Yes, but most of the time, if you clear Play Store's data, it goes away. I never use stock DPI. Its a waste of the screen to watch everything so big, plus it looks way sharper, as if the phone had a higher res.
I think 220 was my sweet spot on the Atrix. On my GS2, i have to go lower because of the lower res and bigger screen.

True, unless you have a patched Vending.apk.
I keep my DPI at 213, everything looks much better, I feel like I have more screen real-estate, and ever since patching my Vending.apk I never had any compatibility issues on Google Play. (I do however have location-based restrictions, but that's another story and also fixable using other methods.)
I also deleted /system/app/MarketUpdater.apk so the system doesn't overwrite my patch by suddendly deciding to update Vending.apk.

I just followed instructions I found here on the forum. It was long time ago so I don't remember what was the thread/post, feel free to search yourself. Or if you like you can try my patched Vending.apk, version 3.7.15 (attached).

...does it still work?
For some reason I am unable to install the app on my One. I have checked the settings to allow apps from other sources and it gets as far as where I can select to Install or Cancel the installation. Once I am on this screen it doesn't allow me to go any further, no matter how many times I touch the install button it doesn't change color like it is being selected. I can only click the cancel button from this screen. Am I missing something here? I know the One is not on the list of supported devices (yet?) however I figured it would work since Mobile is supposed to support the One family of devices.
