[Q] usb tethering - Motorola Droid X2

when i try to use usb tethering in stock or eclipse i get the data link lost error. constantly tries to reconnect and drops. when i use usb tethering in cm7/9/10 it works perfect. i'm not using any apps to tether and really cant afford to dish out any money for something my phone should be doing already. has anyone found a way to get usb tethering to work in stock/eclipse? i'm on an ntelos milestone x2 if that helps at all.

tehering
I use klink red edition, its not real expensive and works great!

It's because the ROMS have issue with this, Like the the guy before me said, if you really need it get the app he recommended

touch pro as a modem/pdaNet usage

What is the most effective way to use the pro as a modem? I have downloaded PdaNet and it works flawlessly but wonder if it is the most efficient means from a speed stand point. Also when I downloaded it did not say it was a demo but I see an option to buy and register which wants an e-mail and a serial but the program seems to work fine. I wonder for how long?
PDANet Demo is good for 14 days if I remember correctly. For me it's been great and I ended up buying it. I think you would see the best speeds tethered to the phone via USB than via WiFi or Bluetooth.
Hi,
With PDANet, would ATT know that you were tethering? Is there any way that they can recognize data transfering from the computer through the phone?
Thanks in advance
I haven't had an issue. I used to tether my motorola Q on verizon without paying for their extra 'tethering' option. I would only use it while traveling so I never had a high data usage for the month.
PDANet slows you down. For sure.
ICS is the best for tethering IMO, it doesn't cripple your speeds.
check out this thread I made http://sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174517
will confirm that ICS is way faster...
for verizoners check this out http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=47075
works great and don't have to worry about activesync

What about WMwifirouter ?
http://freewareppc.com/communication/wmwifirouter.shtml
The freeware version works perfectly with the ancient mogul.
Usage:
WMWifiRouter is very simple to operate (if everything goes well). After installation just start the program, press "Connect", wait until the screen gives you a fully green icon and then you can connect your other WiFi-enabled devices to the "WMWifiRouter" network. Once you are connected, for most devices you can just press the power button to turn off the screen and other power using components of your device, while it remains functional as a WiFi router.
NOTICE: If you have a Titan / Mogul or other device that has a hardware WiFi switch, turn this to the on position before starting WMWifiRouter.
NOTICE: Obviously, using WMWifiRouter to tether over WiFi uses your phone's data connection, so you should make sure you have good data plan, or you will be charged extra!
I have used all 3 options. Pda net is simple you don't need to hack reg. It is slower. ICS for most you have to do hack or pay extra is faster no other software to buy pdanet is like 20 buck i think. There are pirate copies but is not so expensive good to support developers. I currently use wmwifireouter it is also fast you still have to do the hack cost is 30 bucks us. With this one you need to plug it in somewhere to keep battery charged it does allow multiple phones. Is customizable now works like a charm but you do want to open keyboard for cooling. I use sprint and have never been charged for tethering with any of these options. In my opinion you have more flexability with wmwifirouter than with the others.

Tether Gtab to phone for internet access? is it possoble?

Just wondering if its possible to take your droid phone and tether it to the Gtab like you can with a laptop in order to get online.
You need to download the drver for the pc to get something like pdanet to work, so not sure about this

Sure. For Android phone, tons of apps on Google market can let it become Wifi hot spot. Then your gtab can pickup wifi signal to connect to internet. You can check <G Tablet Themes and Apps> section on xda-developers.com.

If you search this forum for wifi tethering, you will find a lot of information on different ways to accomplish this. A little reading goes far here, redundant posts do not. You can find Search field on the top right...
Did search, didnt really find a useful answer.
I have pdanet on droid x2 and am able to connect laptop to internet.
I tried connecting phone and tablet with bluetooth and no luck.
Since I dont have a micro usb to mini usb cable to connect the two to try that im asking if it works. Only cable like that I found was on ebay from hong kong
You will need to do WiFi tethering, not bluetooth or USB.
It seems to do WiFi tethering, if you don't have native phone support you have to root and use one of the apps that provide ad hoc support. I have read all the bluetooth stuff and no one seems to get it working.
Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether
I used both of these apps on my rooted Droid X to create wi-fi hotspots and connect my gTabs to them without having to do anything special. I've used VEGAn 5.1.1 and VEGAn Ginger as well as the CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Stable release) and it's worked with all of them.

[Q] Wired Tether

Is there free wired tethering available for this phone?
is there a free supported app?
The computer im using doesn't have a wireless network card( it's an old computer).
and im wondering if there is a way i can get my phone to be its internet until i get a card.
I want to turn it into a FTP server.
Any help that helps, THANKS
Relative to the wireless part. I have a couple of these that I got just for this type of purpose.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037G2BMY
Cheap, FAST and very handy to have around in the case someone brings over a computer without wireless access.
As for using your phone for the internet, that works good for browsing etc... but you will have a hard time getting your phone to provide services like service (FTP) since the IP is NAT'd....

The phone will definitely not be a permanent fix. I'll still want to use the phone haha, i just want to set it up and see how it goes first.
the router isn't that far away, but it's a floor above so it will be going through at least 1 wall...
and thanks ill look into that
would

work? ill try it out in a bit but was just wondering if someone has tried before...
Edit: that links app does NOT work for the leaked ics kernel
I thought you could just plug the phone into the usb and select internet???
No verizon made a fee, id rather go though our guy's for wired tether you know, i just need to get a little usb wireless dongle thing then i guess
I use pdanet
Easytether works fine for free as long as you dint visit any secure sites

Using this now and it works great, now i just have to follow that guys FTP guide.
THANKS SO MUCH!
Glad to hear PDAnet works. I tried the Wired Tether on the Google Projects page with no luck on CleanROM 1.7.5 or CleanROM 4.2.2.
Seems to be a kernel issue I think the one from Google will work when we get aosp or cm working. Maybe the ics official release will let it work on sense roms. The PDA net app works fine currently.
I use ClockWorkMod Tether. Love it.

Easiest way to Hotspot?

Hello,
I've just about pulled my hair out over this. What is the easiest way to get wifi tethering unlocked and unrestricted? I've tried hacks, mods, flashing ROMs with this mod baked in yet when i check my tethering usage it's still ticking upwards rapidly.
Please, can anyone help me with this? Thank you very much
Bump. Anyone?
I find that using pdanet+ to usb tether is the most effective way of data tethering at this point. Tmobile have really cracked down on unauthorized wifi tether, at least down here in TX. I'm constantly being throttled as soon as I turn on WiFi tether. User agent doesn't help either.
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
I use EasyTether+
The free version is pretty good, but restricts you from using https secured websites (like Gmail.com). For $10 you can get the full version; unfortunately it's only for PC, since the host is USB or Bluetooth only, and they only have a PC client.
I bought it with Play store credits via the Google Opinion Rewards app (so, for free), but it may be worth considering if you want to sidestep tethering restrictions and are linking with a PC. At least try the free version first to see if you like it; it seems to work for me pretty well, and doesn't make my phone get too hot.
Disclaimer: My GS5 is still in the mail (don't have it yet; just browsing the forums to get my bearings). My experience with EasyTether+ is on a LG G2, but it's still T-mobile so I doubt anything network-wise is different.
Bump, did you get the s5 yet? Does it work?
Anyone knows any fixes?
