Specific NFC tasks - Galaxy Note II Themes and Apps

Hi guys.
I'm hoping someone can recommend an app for me for a project I'm working on basically to mount my phone in my car and have it read an nfc tag when it is in there and perform a set of specific actions only while it's in range of the tag.
So essentially the app will know when is in the car and keep maps or torque app open and adopt a certain data/power profile then revert to previous settings when it's removed from the dock.
Does anybody know of an app that can achieve this?

You should take a look at an app called tasker... it requires root tough
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

NFC task launcher will do most of this, but I don't know anything that will reset the state when removed from the tag, I think you would have to tap the tag again, or use another tag to reset the state.
You could just have a second tag for when you leave the car to put phone back to normal
Shame through!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

I use Llama, find it more user friendly than Tasker. You'll need to tap the tag twice, apparently Android's API doesn't notify apps that a tag was lost (although it does know about it, that can be seen in logcat).
I'll export my configuration if you want to use it.

Yes please Mohammad that'd be great as it looks like exactly the sort of thing I wish to achieve! Thank you

You'll need
* Car mode control or change the Llama actions enable car mode rather than running this app, the reason I used this instead of the built in function is that it auto launches the car home app, rather than just turning car mode on, and do the same for the off event (again, I used the app instead because it closes car home and returns to default launcher).
* Driving mode widget, this is optional, but it provides an intent that turns on/off driving mode, which is for spoken alerts.
* Rotation locker, locks orientation, invisible notification bar icon only visible when in car mode, so it shouldn't affect you, the service doesn't run in the background when car mode is turned off.
* Llama, obviously
You can hide all the icons for those three apps, you don't need to interact with them yourself.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/68401892/Llama.zip
Put the Llama folder from the zip file in /sdcard, open Llama, open action menu, and import settings.
You will need to reconfigure the NFC events for your NFC tag, rather than mine (I disabled the built in Tags application using Titanium backup, either do that so "Empty tag" doesn't show up or simply format the tag in Llama).
VW Golf is a wireless AP I had in the car, you should probably remove that too unless you have a similar setup.
You will probably need to reconfigure the sounds, they're in the Llama folder, but since it uses content URIs specific to my device you might need to reselect them.
And that's it

Apps I use to make the Streak that much better

These apps make the streak performance and daily use better for me.. Maybe they help you out.
1. Menu Unlock
https://market.android.com/details?id=teamdouche.kmobs.unlock&feature=search_result
Need Root, an application that allows you to unlock the phone by clicking on the menu button, no need to slide if you do not want to.. Use this when in the car mount and difficult to slide.
2. Turn Silent -
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sebster.android.turnsilent&feature=search_result
Flip the phone on its face to make a different profile.. Silent. Vibrate..etc. Haven't had any issues with this on 2.2.1.
free version can be found here.... not sure how it works though.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zosqlabs.android.flipsilent
3. Spare Parts -
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidapps.spare_parts&feature=search_result
Allows me to speed up animations and transitions, making using the phone much more responsive and faster to use.
4. Copy Paste it
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.copyscreentextfull&feature=search_result
Think of snagit for the android.. though what you snagged gets converted into text pretty well.
5. Log2Calendar
https://market.android.com/details?id=be.hcpl.android.backup&feature=search_result
Logs all calls and sms if you want to your google calendar... Very useful as a log to remember who called when and at what time.. Works very well for work purposes.
6. Power Control Plus & Quick Boot
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.siriusapplications.eclairwidgets&feature=search_result
allows you to place a "widget" in the notification bar to enable disable things like wifi, bluetooth etc... they key here is that it displays what is on and what is not and you can control these things from any applications.
7. Wifi file explorer
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dooblou.WiFiFileExplorerPRO&feature=search_result
Makes your android into a wifi web server where you can easily upload and download files from your pc via wifi. Currently using this and swiftp as well for these purposes.. but very crucial to have when you don't have a stinkin wire.
So there you have it.. Those are my crucial apps that make using my Streak even better.. These I would call utility apps.
If anyone has any other apps that are like this that make life easier, post them.. I am always looking for something new.

I was going for utility apps that open functionality. I got another 20 or so regular apps i cant live with out.

Auto Ring - it's one of those apps that you set up and forget. It's used to create a whitelist of people who can 'ring through' even if your phone is on silent.
I cant say there is anything that i couldnt do without. I'm finding most android apps are just lacking. I dont know if its the lack of integration with android system or the lack of innovation with the developers.
That said Loving log2calendar. Thanks Krad.

Have to say go launcher is the best launcher I've used. Was using launcher pro N then someone said try go launcher ex... it's a lot better. Now I can't think why I didn't try it before. If there was just more themes for it then it would be even better

my best app
the app that makes the Streak easier for me to use and customize is the SYSTEMAPP REMOVER. with this app, i can un-install some of the bloatware either installed by DeLL or my Carrier. you have to be very careful when using this app. it does require ROOT.un-installing some of the bloatware will give you better performance. i un-insatlled all the Dell stage widget and some un-wanted rubbish like swype keyboard. like i said, do be careful when you use the app. am running the official 2.2 update from O2 and i am loving it.

I am a fan of go launcher as well...but still use launcher pro because it has a few more options that I havent been able to let go of yet.
For me, the apps that take the streak to the next level are:
Desktop Visualizer - It allows you to make icons of different sizes and use them as shortcuts to apps, bookmarks, contacts, etc
Tasker - I use it to shut off data at night to save battery, bring up a list of music apps when I plug in headphones, and other simple automations
Simi Folder - to create popup lists of apps (I use it in conjunction with desktop visualizer to have good looking shortcuts
Widgetsoid - to create custom power controls that do more than the stock power control widget and can be themed to match my current phone theme
Apps I can't live without:
Pure Calendar / Smooth Calendar: I set one of my homescreens to my agenda, and it keeps me on track. It is like having an old-school PDA again. Love it. My week at a glance. And it syncs with Outlook calendar, so no matter if I am staring at my Work PC, my Home PC, or on the go, I never miss an appointment. I put everything in the calendar, too. Haircuts, bills to pay, doc appointments, work schedule, etc, etc, etc. Everything goes in, and everything gets done.
APNdroid + Data Counter = keep track of data usage. I am on a limited data plan, but I am close to many WiFi points. So, I keep the data off most of the time, and only turn it on when I need it. APNdroid does this nicely, with a little on/off toggle widget. Then Data Counter keeps track of my monthly useage and resets for each billing cycle.
Free Power Widget - just some generic toggles (Wifi, Vibrate, GPS, etc) that sit on the homescreen, unobtrusive.
Anything else is just nice to have, but these are essentials that make my life easy. And they get used multiple times throughout each day. Without them, my phone just isn't as good as it is with them.

Ah, I forgot one.
Root Explorer - One of a very small list of paid apps that are actually worth the investment. On a rooted phone, it gives you a true file explorer that can do anything from anywhere. None of this "can't save" or "can't edit" stuff. It is the easiest to use; the most like a PC file explorer I've used.

MultiLing Keyboard - Gingerbread keyboard but better. I had the Steven Lin one before but got rid of it. Even if you don't use multi-languages, check it out. This is customizable to increase the keyboard size, in Portrait gives you choice of QWERTY, T9 or SureType (12 key) and it has a cursor keyboard with arrows, Home, End, Cut, Copy & Paste buttons
Handcent
Widgetsoid
Dialer One - Enables Smart Dial
CalWidget - Let's me see my agenda on the home screen
Llama - Changes profiles based on location and time (and other things but I only use those two). This one is awesome.
arcMedia - To watch Divx movies
YouVersion Bible App - Good reader and has many free languages and translations of the Bible
Bluetooth File Transfer - Does exactly what the name implies
Application Protection - Let's me lock specific apps and requires a pin code to access the app. Only problem is that the pin code screen is portrait only but I can live with it because it's free and there is no limit on the number of apps to lock
Advanced Telephone - Gets rid of the slide to answer and replaces with big buttons to receive or reject calls. Also has function to automatically send an SMS to the caller if you reject the call. Only problems are that you still see the slide momentarily before it gets replaced with the buttons and there is a delay where your phone will ring but the screen will be black with no buttons. The delay happens if your phone display is off and is about 1 second long.
EZ Phone Tool - I use mostly for connection notification where the phone vibrates when a call connection is made (when it actually starts ringing because sometimes there is a delay) and also when the call disconnects whether the person hung up or the call got dropped. It also allows Shake to Answer and Flip to Silent. Has function for SMS auto reply for rejected calls but I found it didn't work properly as it sent an SMS even if the person hung up and before I answered. I use Advanced Telephone above for this function.
Missed Call - Gives reminders if a call is missed. Can also set for other missed events like unread SMS
I am looking for an app that will automatically put my phone on Vibrate when my calendar shows that I'm in a meeting. I tried Ringer Genie but that didn't work very well. I'm thinking about Vibrate During Meetings. Has anyone tried it? It's only 99c but figured if it didn't work, no reason to throw away a buck.
I've just started using tasker......fan..blooming....tastic. I now have a very automated phone. I can't recommend it enough.

Regarding ur question at the end - try tasker. ( Pricey but really worth it )

Is there a way to have gps start when navigation opens?

Every single time i open navigation I've got to start the gps or start it before hand. Many links I click take me to navigation then I need to click another window to enable gps. It'd be much easier if it was possible to create something like this that is semi automated.
Dave
Why not have GPS always on?
In my past phone experiences it really sucked the battery dry quickly, is that not the case w/ this one?
I normally keep mine off. When I want to turn it on, I pull down the notification window and enable GPS via Power Toggles.

I don't use GPS so I can't answer that just throwing it out there
Buy Tasker (pricey app, but you'll find so many uses for it that you'll feel like it's completely worth it).
Set up a task that consists of turning on GPS and then opening Navigation (or Maps, whichever you want). Then add a shortcut to that task to your homescreen. You can make the icon the Navigation icon and name it "Navigation" - it'll look identical to the original icon, but it will execute the program (GPS on, open Navigation) when you tap it.
In the case of apps that link to Maps or Navigation, you can create a Tasker profile where, if the Maps or Navigation apps are opened, GPS is turned on. The only downside to this arrangement is that if you're linking directly to Navigation from another app, Tasker needs the Navigation app to open before it enables GPS. The result is that you'll get the "show location settings" window when it first opens Navigation (it likely won't recognize that GPS is on when you get that pop-up).

[Q] Tasker and Turning on GPS

I have the ME7, Rooted Verizon phone. I'm trying to use Tasker to turn on my GPS when it detects BT is connected. Basically i only use BT in the car, so i have it set to have the display brighten, not time out, full volume, etc. so i can use the phone through the car radio. The problem is that GPS won't turn on. I downloaded the extra services thing it said to, but still no joy.
Any help?
Thanks

I have MDK running Tasker but I use start of an app to trigger GPS ON. Can you set your profile to start GPS when you start a certain app?
I also have profiles that when I'm at home or at work (cell near) that GPS is off. GPS may have to be in the default state of "ON" in order to do what you're asking. You may have to create profiles to turn it off as well, but leave the default to "ON". I hope that makes sense to you. Make sure you have the latest version of Tasker: 4.1u3.
I don't think that ME7 to MDK would make a difference in Tasker, but it may.
You need to download secure settings AND install the helper from within it and then to use the GPS on off feature you use the option under plugins>secure settings NOT the one under networks and then edit the configuration for the plugin

SecHolutils & Phone Weaver
I've been using Phone Weaver for my profiles. I have "drive" set up to turn on GPS when I would normaly leave for work, then it turns off at 8am then back on at 4:30, off at 5pm... I needed to download secholeutils.apk and toss it in /system/app and set permissions. Works flawlessly. If I need to drive somewhere during the day, I just hit the "Drive" profile.

In order to do this you will need secure settings and helper and tasker installed assuming you have all this based on this thread
First you will set up two tasks
1) Task to turn on gps
example: Secure settings: GPS on then Flash "Happy Driving
2) set up a DIFFERENT task to turn off GPS using secure settings
create a profile that activates on an app launch. then tasker will require you link this with a task, choose the gps on task.
Next long press on the task (while in the profiles tab not the tasks tab) an option for "add exit task" should appear that will allow you to link the gps off task
exit tasks are tasks that tasker executes when the conditions are no longer true Maps is launched=gps on task upon app close=gps off task is run

If you want to turn on GPS install secure settings and helper from inside secure settings. Your going to need root. When making the task click plugin>secure settings>GPS and select the state you want. (On off or toggle)

Hi,
For me following worked:
Duplicate the Profile where you turn on GPS
Edit the duplicate like this:
invert the selected apps (press the invert button) so all other apps are selected
then set the action to GPS off.
Hope this helps.

While true that will work I would recommend using the exit task option. When you get more advanced with tasker it will benefit you greatly plus the way you said it is kind of "incorrect". It will work in this case but in others it won't correctly

[Q] Samsung Galaxy SIII Assistive light widget as an application

Hi there.
I'm trying to find the best way of LED flashlight activation and ended up with a tought it should be enabled via double home button press. So Wanam Xposed module allows me to choose which application should be started once I pressed Home twice. Ok.
Here is my problem - I used to use a Tasker task that involved TeslaLED plugin to trigger the flash. Then I found the Assistive light widget, which is a way faster in comparison with TeslaLED. It's virtually instant. But a widget is not the way I like to trigger the flash. It's just not convenient. I thought I found the solution when I found some japanese app called Widget to Shortcut, but it hangs during the widget analysis.
So I'm looking for a way to get an application that simply will be triggering the flash the way the Assistive Light does. Instantly. The best approach is to have the same codebase or activity or intent that implements it (not sure what term is correct here).
And yes, I already tried the hidden Settings activity that allows to use VolUp to enable the flashlight. But it seems not stable to me. First - it stops working if the phone in the deep sleep mode (at least, I guess it's the reason). So, if my phone is intact for a few minutes, I can't use VolUp to fire the light up. And other thing I worried about - I found that this hidden activity somehow prevents the phone from sleeping in certain conditions and that noticeably affected the uptime of my Galaxy SIII.
Plus, I read here that somebody said the same widget on S4 has a lower light level of LED and this was made intentionally. The guy was upset, but here I see the utility - is it possible to choose how bright the LED level could be, in particular for Samsung Galaxy SIII? That would be awesome if I could switch between light levels for a flashlight, just like in real hardware flashlights!
Does anybody knows an answer to either of my questions?
Thanks!
Regards,
Eugene

Automate App: Toggle DeX via Bluetooth device

Apologies in advance if this is not the right place for this. Please move it to the appropriate thread/forum if needed. Thank you.
I've been working on a way to have DeX launch when my bluetooth keyboard is connected. I have shared my flow with the Automate Community. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome. I'm pretty new at this, so go easy on me lol.
Whenever anyone asks about automating tasks on Android I always think of Tasker. I haven't used it on the Tab S4 yet so do not know if it can manipulate the DeX setting or not. Might try and see what the Tasker community says. That would certainly be handy to have it change over whenever the bluetooth keyboard or mouse are connected. If you find anything out be sure to post the solution here so we can thank you for the work.

I've been working on a way to have DeX launch when my bluetooth keyboard is connected. I have shared my flow with the Automate Community. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome. I'm pretty new at this, so go easy on me lol.

Awesome man... Works well. Definitely not the right forum to ask this but is it possible to create a flow to toggle Wi-Fi Calling on or off based on which Wi-Fi network its conn to or GPS? I searched but couldn't find anything for Tasker or Automate.
Finaly i find a way to toggle dex with Tasker but you need certain apps. QuickShortcutMaker and IntentTask(plugin for tasker).
First open QuickShortcutMaker to find Samsung Dex on activity selection. Then tap the ModeToggleActivity then add it to favorites(star icon) to find it later.
Now open Tasker and creat an action. Add action with IntentTask in plugins and select the Launch shortcut. Then in the name section press the pen icon and choose activities. Now tap on the favorites and tap Samsung DeX and create. Then tap done go back and you are done.

...brilliant.
edit: needs more hacking. I have a Samsung s5e and a foldable bluetooth keyboard. with this tasker setup I start dex whenever that keyboard pairs with my tablet which happens when I open it.
when I close it, nothing happens, and when I open it again, tasker switches back to normal tablet mode - needs some kind of "only when not in dex" trigger or something.
Perhaps there is a command line option we can use in Tasker on Bluetooth connect?

actualy it is weird to not back normal when close it or maybe i can just add an exit task with same action to close it (and maybe it is the way that because bluetooth profile is just do the action when connected something and do a different thing on disconnected sorry i am away from my tablet)
btw intenttask has a state condition with see the current app (samsung dex an example) to set a variable action maybe to prevent force close dex
where / how do i configure intenttask with that state condition?
