Need help with live wallpaper installation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
I have an HTC One X + from AT&T and I am wanting to install a live wallpaper from Softbank Mobile.
Someone posted the file and it was a .zip file.
Tried opening the .zip and trying to find an apk file but there was none. Second thing I thought of doing was changing the zip on the file to apk, moved it into my phone and tried to install it from the phone but all I got was an "App was not installed" error message.
I saw someone said to try via Recovery (I have a custom recovery installed), booted to the recovery, but I have encryption on meaning I couldn't see anything with the recovery (stupid me) meaning couldn't install the .zip that way.
Can someone please create the zip to an installable .apk please.
I have attached the file from the original post.
Thank you so much!

[Q] E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip-Samsung Vibrant

Hey everybody,
I apologize in advance if this post is a duplicate but I have tried searching for a solution and still lost. Here is what I did: I used the Odin to restore stock rom, then re-rooted using the one click method, then downloaded a rom from theunlockr.com, then used rommanger to install it. My rom has gave me no problems but now when I try to reboot into recovery to install something else(Like the 2.3 keyboard or a lagfix) i get this error:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted
Can someone please help me? Thank you, BTW I have a Samsung Vibrant running axura-froyo-rom
I had the same problem too.
When I put update.zip at the root directory of internal memory... once I restart the phone (not get into the recovery mode), this file is missing / dissapear. So... I always got this message too :
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted
anybody can help us pleaseeeeee
I got my phone to factory settings using odin then i rerooted my phone and flashed the same custom rom back on and it worked. Try reflashing your phone, backup first, might work.

thanks for reply.
how to use factory setting using odin ? tick the "re-partition" box ?
can you explain to us step by step please ?
I'm so frustated
Did you guys delete the update.zip after rooting?
If you do not see
sdcard/update.zip using a file manager, download the update.zip from my noob guide, move it to internal memory and then try to flash CWR.
Also, look in the bottom of the noob guide (last few posts) for a solution to a RECENT issue with CWR... I assume whatever Koush did in the last update is causing this problem? BUT, there is a fix posted by another XDA user... just a matte of downloading the file and putting it in the right place.

listen to s15's post....he knows what he is talking about. i followed his noob guide in his sticky and everythign worked perfectly! his vids are also very helpful. one thing i have found that works a lot as well is if you download ROM Manager from the market and then click on "fix permissions"... don't know if this would help in this situation but i have had that fix weird stuff.

yeah this, the update.zip is ESSENTIAL for your phone to run the clockwork recovery, it stores all the things needed, and when you click "reinstall packages" your system goes in update.zip and looks for what to boot up and finds CWR and boots that so you see that screen.
Don't delete it if you did.
i have tried numerous times to root, but cant seem to get update.zip file in right place, can anyone help? thanks. challenged noob!!

When you usb into your phone it needs to be in the initial area of your sdcard.
You might have a bad update.zip file. Two things, verify the md5(if possible) from where you got it and check the properties and make sure it's not names update.zip.zip. The later is very common.
Try this method too btw, when I Odin back to stock I always use this one to root again. Follow the 'Automated Method' area.

you will need these drivers AND set your phone to debugging mode (settings/applications/development check USB debugging).

hey all,
Newbie here trying to flash a ROM, i am running into this same error, i have tried everything here and i have one question (might be a stupid question) but my root sd folder is called SD/, not SDCard/ ...is this a path error?
Please note it file must be in the internal card, not the SD card.
This step drove me nuts.
"2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/ " (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458)
i ran into the same problem...how do i get from 3e to CWR?
here's what's shown in my vibrant directory: Android, DCIM, external_sd, LOST.DIR
i dont have an internal sd (the card) so it's not shown?
the path i got error on: /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip
1. when i tried to "reinstall packages" i keep getting the error that the update.zip file cant be found. should i create a folder for it or something? i think it's a matter of pathing but i cant find out the right place to put the file...(to get from 3e to CWR)
2. i see people suggesting boot with odin or sth like that...does that solve my problem and how do i do that?

You definitely have an internal sd card. Use Astro file manager or something similar and put update.zip on the root of internal sd card, meaning not in a folder. It should look like sdcard/update.zip. If you are having the 3e mismatch recovery issue read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

i go to the link that you linked and ran the script. then i download the update.zip file at the noob guide with a slimbean 4.2.2 rom and addons. this time i would just put it in the root folder (technically not in any folder). when i try to reinstall packages, the screen shows that it is "replacing stock recovery with clock work recovery"... but then it would go back to the 3e.
so...i guess putting the files in the root folder is correct. but someone it still wont let me get tot CWR...

You have to reinstall packages twice for it to work properly. It is normal to not work the first time, just reinstall packages again and you should be good to go. If you keep having issues you should just flash back to stock 2.1 with Odin and go from there.

[Q] AHH!! failed

I got clockworkmod working fine, but I am unable to loan ROMs. Whenever I downloand a ROM it opens in muiltiple files and it also happens with TNT, Thi is where Im stuck
Step 3.
Copy whatever ROM you wish to install (it should be a .zip file) to the ROMs folder on your tablet. (Leave it zipped, Clockwork will install it from the .zip file as is). trying to get VEGan 5.1 final
Note: If the ROM you downloaded has multiple files, look for the one named “update.zip” and rename it to whatever you want (something to help you differentiate it from other ROMs), then copy that to the tablet. If an “update.zip” doesn’t exist, and you’re lost…read through that ROM’s thread and see if anybody else asked about it…if not then you probably should (on that ROM’s thread…each one is different).
I cant fiqure how to get the update.zip. When I do open the files i get 3 files
META_INF,boot, and system. I tried to copy and paste all three files in the ROMs, but it never show the update.zip
You don't need an update.zip with clockworkmod recovery... you just need the rom that is zipped and can be named anything.
Stop unzipping the rom you are downloading and just copy it to your device. Install that with clockworkmod recovery.

you've answered your own question, the rar or zip file you downloaded might be in diff names, but always leave it in zip format. if in rar, unrar and the zip file should be in it.
in clockwork recovery, you can update by update.zip or choose your own zip

That is my problem, if automaticly unzips when it downloads. I am not sure if its my windows setting becaue I am unable to download TNT lite because I keep getting " windows can no opem" message. Is there a way i can prevent it from unzipping? Thanks BTW
maybe use a diff browser to download or right click on link and "save as"
You might be hitting open instead of save ...
down load it direct to your Gtab
Download the file directly to your tab. Use ES file explorer to move it to your SD card if necessary. Reboot in to clock work - choose file from SD card-select it and install.

[Q] How to modify build.prop if the phone don't want to boot

Hello, I've got a BIG problem. I've used LCD Density Changer on my ONDA TQ150 (Gingerbread 2.3.4) but I've chosen a wrong value and the phone shows a black screen after the bootscreen. I've tried with update.zip via recovery but even if I've signed the file with autosign I've got a sign error message. How can I repair this?
Thanks in advance. I attach both build.prop and update.zip files
What do you need the density set at?
EDIT: There are 2 update scripts in meta-inf/com/google/android. Try deleting update-script and leave updater-script (use 7-zip to open zip, navigate to folder and right click, delete update-script)
Then try and flash again, should work then. NOTE: current density is set to 120dpi on the build.prop in the update zip. If you need to change that let me know and ill upload another update zip for you.
Ok I'll try I think I won' t try to change density again :-D
Thanks a lot.

I've just tried, nothing to do I receive the same message (signature verification failed) but if I've already signed the update.
I use the android stock recovery because there aren't others tools for my phone (it's not a popular model because it's sold only in Italy, even if I think it's a rebrand).
What do you need the density set to? Ill make an update zip for you.
Sent from my HTC ENR_U using Tapatalk
I don't want to change density for now, I want only to resume my phone so, 120 would be good (it's the default value)... thanks in advance but if I apply your zip I will not have the signing error?
Hopefully the attached update zip should work. Let me know how it goes.
Same error
E:signature verification failed
Ok i think its something to do with how stock recovery handles update zips. I found some info HERE I think the only way you can do it is to install a custom recovery. Google is your friend from now im afraid, ive reached the end of my expertise. Good Luck!
Thanks for evertything... I cannot root again the phone because it doesn't boot so I think I'll ship it to the seller. Thanks again, I appreciated it so much.
If its already rooted, do you still have the rom zip on your sd card? Could you not just reflash the rom? Or take the memory card out, put it in a card reader, plug into your computer, put rom on sd card, put back in phone, flash. That will revert dpi back to standard.
No it's not rooted now, 'cause after this problem I've made a wipe data/cache hoping to resolve but without luck. So actually it's not rooted and I've not got a backup because the stock recovery doesn't permit this
use adb pull system/build.prop
then u can edit it and
push
adb push (pullthe build prop here) system/
As I specified the phone refuses to boot so I cannot access ADB. But today I'll go to the seller and I see what can I do. I brought this 5 days ago.
By the way, for this price I think it's good, so if someone want to buy this phone can find it in two stores: www.marcopoloshop.it and http://www.expert-italia.it/
It's not too much fast (cpu @600 MHz) but he's got a full qwerty and Gingerbread for 69 euros! I use it as second phone. Not bad

[Q] Trouble rooting

I am almost done rooting my HTC One. I am able to boot into recovery and get into TWRP but when i go to install it goes directly to SD (which I don't have). I have looked through all of the folders to find the .zip file that I need to install SU but it is not there. I have downloaded it directly to the phone as well as added it from "file transfer." File transfer that there are 3 zip files on the phones internal memory but nothing shows up in Team Win. Help?
Also when I reboot from Team Win, I get a message that tells me I am not rooted, and asks if I want to install SU.....I am afraid ill brick the phone if I swipe to install with no zip selected.
figured it out

[Q] I broke it

Hi guys!
I was hoping one of you could help me.
Yesterday i modified a build.prop file on my NextBook EBM8000ND (Next800T) tablet, causing it to get stuck in a bootloop every time it's turned on. I've been searching the Internet all day long but it's hard to find support when you have a device which no one in the world uses . It was rooted but I did a factory reset hoping that it would fix it. It didn't and now it's also unrooted. I tried to make a custom update.zip with the backup of the original build.prop file but the stock recovery simply refuses to load any update file. It always stops at verification. I used 7zip with store option. I tried signing the zip, I even edited the updater script to only print some text on the screen but the recovery still wouldn't load it. I tried to find a way to install CWM using sdcard but with no luck. When i tried to use ADB in recovery the device says: "failed to open driver control: No such file or directory". It might be worth mentioning that I found my device's ROM online with boot.img and recovery.img files and a .tar file which contains the original system folder.
Is there any way to make the stock recovery (since installing CWM or TWRP seems impossible) read my update file? Or is there another way to fix this? I only need to replace that single file.
Hoping to get help soon.
Cheers!
