[Q] Little help needed. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay now I have installed this Unofficial 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Kernel XXLS6 on my S2 , and couple of days ago I heard that the official Firmware is to be available on Kies in the next few weeks, so what I did is I downloaded the Stock 4.0.3 ICS through searching my country's Rom on Samfirmware.net and it was a 500+ Mbs *.tar.md5 file.. So I want to know do I just flash it on PDA through Odin? I'm having doubts because when I flashed this unofficial firmware I'm having now I actually had to use 3 files the MODEM, the CODE and the CSC. SO I just need to know is that one file just enough or not?
This is the name of the File: I9100JPLPF_I9100OJPLPC_I9100XXLPX_HOME.tar.md5
Thank you.

Yes. All you need is the md5 and flash it via PDA section.

Are all the applications going to be wiped? and if yes, is there anyway I could get them back?

titanium back up works like a charm.

[Q] Best stock GB ROM?

Hi,
This might be a stupid question but which is the most stable GB stock ROM available out there as per your opinion? and what is the harm in installing a ROM with different CSC as to yours current?
Does doing a factory reset after installing a ROM, removes all the settings from your old ROM ? as in is it like a format on a PC?
Thanks in advance.

This is TOTALLY subjective, as you yourself stated with "as per your opinion", and usually starts a bunch of arguments. Which is why these threads tend to get closed. I expect this one to get closed shortly.

You probably won't get updates via Kies anymore, if you were ever able to in the first place.

A "factory reset" essentially restores the last ROM you flashed to how it was the moment you flashed it.
EDIT to add: to the above factory reset question... it does remove all user installed apps and data too though. So it is KIND OF like a PC format, but not exactly.

Hi thanks for the reply. No i don't want to start a long thread of debates what i meant was, is the latest GB 2.3.6 better and more stable than the 2.3.5? The reason i asked about the CSC was coz 2.3.6 is not available for my region so was wondering if it is more stable than 2.3.5 i would upgrade it!
I updated my system to 2.3.5 via kies and all the software & everything else was how it was before I upgraded to it, does kies reinstall the stuff?

I'm still on XXKI3, which is 2.3.5. It's perfectly stable for me. CSC only matters if you want releases through Kies. If you want to continue to receive Kies updates, then don't change anything. Otherwise, you can flash whatever CSC you want.

No. Kies updates are non-wipe, which means it won't touch the data partition, where your apps live.

one last question, when flashing a GB stock ROM which is not available in my country via KIES do i need to put the following in ODIN:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the csc bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package
for that particular ROM? or is there something i shouldn't mess with?

no need to worry, any FW package you download should contain these 3 files, to select from respective sections of the ODIN
or all these in a single TAR file to select from PDA.

You've for sure got an I9100, right?
USUALLY, full firmwares are all inclusive. So they will contain modem and CSC already. So you just put it into the PDA field in Odin and leave everything else alone.
You only put modem and CSC in if the package you put in PDA doesn't have them already, or you want to overwrite the ones that are already in a package.
Make sure you don't re-partition, or include a .PIT file unless you REALLY need to, the .PIT file is FOR SURE INTENDED FOR YOUR MODEL OF PHONE, and you know what you are doing. Flashing a .PIT file for a different model of phone will completely hard-brick your phone, and there won't be anything you can do to recover it yourself unless you get your own JTag box. Otherwise, it will have to go to Samsung or a service point that has JTag.

if you select any of the CSC, you probebly get a single .7z file which can be extracted with winrar, then you will get a .md5 file, just select that one from PDA, as per the guide of the same thread....GOODLUCK
I have not tested this to comment, but used 2.3.6, its very stable...
there are firmwares released after this also..like XWLA2, LA4 etc...

Installed firmware XWLA4 it is working like a charm and it is much much better than any before. Before i had 2.3.3 and wen i upgraded to 2.3.5 from KIES i was disappointed by the lack of stability in 2.3.5, Now when i upgraded 2.3.6 it is far far better than any other stock GB available.

[Q] I9300 Stock ROM, Rooted - OTA JB Update ?

I have a Samsung I9300, I'm in the US, and and on T-Mobile, it has the stock ROM, but rooted with Chainfire's CF-Root 6.4. The S3 has downloaded the OTA Jellybean update, and I have postponed it for now. My question is, can I apply the update ? and then just re-root with CF-Root, or will the update fail?
Thanks
I wouldn't apply the ota as it can fail with any root applied incl cf root. You could update through kies and reapply cf root or flash the official firmware for your phone through Odin. If ya need a hand finding out which official firmware ya need do the following:-
Dial *#1234# into your keypad and post results.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It shows:
AP: I9300UBBLG2
CP: I9300UBLG2
CSC: I9300UUBBLG2
I believe that firmware is Brazilian but using sammobile.com to check for brazilian versions I dont see a JB update for any of the brazilian carriers handsets or the unbranded version :/
If u have kies you could do the update through it, it updates the same as if u flash through odin and wont wipe anything. You could also use "checkfus" from playstore it should identify your phone and firmware version and allow u too download.
I had a similar problem, and I thought I could try to get Jelly Bean by flashing a custom Jelly Bean ROM. Now I want to go back to stock ROM (flashed custom ROM's performance is awful), so I downloaded the corresponding stock ROM from sammobile, but what I found was a very large (1,2Gb) tar.md5 file and a SS_Dl.dll file.
So the question; is it normal for it to be that big? and, how do I flash it with odin... which thing goes where? which pit should I use? do I put the 1,2Gb file in PDA? should I tick re-partition? bootloader?? Please, help
(Current ROM is DarkyROM III v6.0, and my android phone is a spanish yoigo i9300, so according to sammobile my stock is I9300XXBLFB_I9300YOGBLF1_YOG)

OK, a slight variation on the question:
S3 I9300 on T-mobile, stock ROM, rooted w/ CF 6.4. Can I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the JB update that the phone has downloaded (update.zip sitting in /cache) checking everoot to keep root, and do the update this way, rather than using kies to update and the re-root?
And if so, what happens to the CWM recovery that is installed, does it get over written with stock recovery?
Thanks

[Q] sgs3 i9300 uk vodafone unroot etc

hi everyone!
would really appreciate some clear advice on how to unroot sgs3 i9300 on vodafone.ive looked on the forums and im jus confused and i just dont understand.yes a noob.all this talk bout flash counters roms i just given up almost.
i got fone rooted already from a friend.they wrote down what actually was done.
cf root 6. something was used via odia 1.85 on pc.
i have jelly bean 4.1 xxdlih running but it says modified and ota wont wrk? i connect to kies and it says up to date.
am i on a stock rom? or is it custom? sorry ive been getting all this from the forums just not sure.
if a new official firmware was released i could update through kies? without problems? and return phone to normal?
would this cwm cf root cause problem when eventually updating through kies as i have modified status on phone? is flash counter increased?not sure again.
would ota start working? read somewhere people still get ota. but i dont. i knw there isnt a firmware available but it says modified so stopping future updates? i jus want fone normal.i knw benefits of rooted as i been reading up last 5days but i dont need them.
i looked on sammobile and the latest official i see is for my fone xxdlih? thats what i have?
there option in supersu to remove root? what would happen if did that? i guess it would unroot but would phone still be modified status? or return to normal? ota would be working again?
i think that most of it.thanks to anyone who can jus clear things up in a basic way for me.thanks!!!!
just flash the latest stock rom - XXDLJ4 I think.
Download from sammobiole and flash with ODIN.
There's tutorials on here on how to use ODIN.

hi mike thanks for the quick reply.i jus looked it up and i have to be in download mode with usb debugg ticked on phone right? i looked on sammobile its xxdlih for my fone which is what im on.sorry if im not getting it.do i flash the same one again? thanks again man!
No problem
I suggested XXDLJ4 as this is the latest official unbranded JB firmware for the UK.
Flashing this would mean you wouldnt have to update OTA or Kies once youve unrooted.
You can flash XXDLIH if you want, you would then get an OTA to upgrade to XXDLJ4 (or similar).
Yes, make sure you're in download mode / usb debugging on to use ODIN.
Make sure 'repartition' is NOT ticked and all should be good.
EDIT - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911726 for guides on using ODIN.

[Q] Quick Question about Galaxy S II Update via Odin.

Hello,
A friend of mine has a Galaxy S2 running gingerbread 2.3.4 and wants to update to ICS, but for some reason kies says that the version of the firmware is not supported for update. I figured that the phone must have been updated through Odin previously so I'm trying to update it myself.
I have a question though. Her current baseband is XXKG1. Does it matter to which firmware I update? I found the XWLPY ICS firmware, would it work?
Also should I ignore the PDA and CSC files when updating via Odin ? (some guides say that i should do so)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Tell him to go straight to jelly bean. Charge him with 2 beers instead of 1.
Here, just unzip that and flash the .tar in PDA.
If that modem doesn't work, just flash another one.
Back up your ROM and EFS folder first.

Still the question remains. Does it matter to which baseband I update? And will that affect the phone in any way?
no the baseband flashed with jb will not affect here phone in anyway but may give you better reception, you can always change it if needed.

As per flashing any ROM, Software, Stock or Custom there are risks and I am not responsible for any results that you might encounter...
