[Q] Hard Bricked - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I hard bricked my phone a couple weeks ago. I was trying out Heimdall for the first time instead of Odin, which I'm pretty familiar with. I messed up and pretty sure I hard bricked it; whenever I try to turn the phone on the led light flashes once and nothing happens. I tried going into Download mode, and the USB jig didn't work either. Are there any solutions other than JTAG to recover from a hard brick?
Thanks !

JTAG is your only option.

I think for now it's only jtag, but Adam was working on a fix here. He's probably been to busy with the boot loader to finish it yet though

Hard Brick

Well,
I was flashing my first test theme of my new VR theme, and I got a status 7 error in CWM.
After selecting reboot, nothing now happens with my phone, can't get it turned on with any key combination or with a jig! Ugh!
Pretty sure she's done for...unless someone has another idea?
It just doesn't do anything at all? No boot image or anything? If so, i don't know what we could possibly do.

Yeah, if you could get ADB to connect, you would be good, but if it won't do anything, I can't think of anything else to try. Jig is usually the last resort.

Hardbricked Galaxy s3

Okay, Im an ass so I say that up front. I flashed a bad kernel and I hardbricked my 5 day old galaxy s3 fro Tmobile. I took it to the local repair place that does JTAG repairs, which btw, does not work on the weekends. according to them the JTAG'ing takes 40 hours which I think is more because I kept calling and seeing if the phone was showing any signs of life. Anyone know how long the actual JTAG procedure actually takes cause 40 hours seems like a long time to me. Even after they said there was no guarantee that it would work and bring my phone back from the dead.
I am not new to rooting or flashing roms and kernels and things of that nature. So for the record I did not read first about bad kernels floating about so again Im an ass.
First mistake was flashing anything from this forum, this is for the international version ONLY.
Secondly a jtag should bring it back to life.
I'm not sure of the timeframe but 40 hours seems like a lot of time to do anything.

Could you describe how exactly you hardbricked your phone? As far as I know hardbricking is pretty much impossible on the s3 and probably extremely rare (this is the first case I've heard about it).

A kernel won't hardbrick a phone. If you flash a correct kernel it should boot. A way to brick it is to flash a wrong firmware from here. Cause the first thing being flashed on a firmware with odin is bootloader. Then you will have an expensive paperweight.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
afaik s3 has separate kernel and recovery where flashing a kernel dosent touch the recovery , so practically it should not be hard bricked
If I were you I would approach to XDA forum first! where all the " DO DOES " happen!
are you 100% sure its bricked?
I dont really know about it, but from my experience bootloader flash and emmc bug are the only ways to hardbrick S3, flashing wrong kernel should make your phone unbootable, but shouldnt do a **** to your download mode (if flashed right, put under pda in odin), however if you put it under bootloader box, than it might flashed kernel on bootloader partition which deffinatly makes hard brick.

The JTAG didnt take the first time around so now they are still "trying" according to them ofcourse. I tried ODIN but it did not recognize my phone so that was no good. I tried everything I knew to try and that why I finally caved and gave it to the JTAG guys.

OK so basically I'm a moron I saw the enoxys abuse app (I'm sure I spelt that wrong) and without thinking I rooted with it since I won't have my computer working till tomorrow. So being rooted I get the brilliant idea to download goo manager and push a recovery because "it was that simple on my gnex ." So now I have the lovely Verizon warning. I know I fix that with Odin but idk the files to use. Yea I did something dumb because my last two phones were virtually unbrickable. I'm hating myself for not reading but yea can someone please point me to a guide or just tell me what to do? Thank you in advance and feel free to make fun and say I deserve it
Edit: Is there anyway to fix this and not totally wipe my phone?

No, I dont see how. If you flash something in Odin (which seems like your only option) you rewrite everything on the device (excluding the external sdcard) in accordance with the specifications of the file you are flashing.

I have followed every direction and used every recovery rom even the stock rom. The stock rom will not even load in Odin all I get is a invalid bienary error. I really don't know what to do at this point. Thanks

Aaaaand that's why you don't flash anything that's not made specifically for your phone, unless you know it's compatible. Sorry for your loss though. Can you get into download mode? Guess it's too late now, if you already sent it back, but I'm sure you tried to Odin back to stock..

Kinda like me I still use my S3 as a backup phone for streaming music on Wi-Fi/hotspot, playing games, hooking it up to my tv, and flashing ROM's when I get an itch, and don't feel like changing my current Note setup. I really like the Galaxy Mod ROM for the S3 mainly because it has Multiwindow, which I can no longer live without!
Sent from my Inverted Beans ROM @ 240 DPI
So, you flashed a Note 2 kernel that is for an Exynos SoC to the SGS3, which is a Qualcomm SoC? I'm not sure why anyone would even think to try this in the first place, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to warn everyone. Also, this is exactly the reason VZW locks the bootloader, because people do things like this and then get warranty replacements.
As for fixing it, you should be able to, but you likely need a USB jig to force it into download mode, then a full Odin tar plus a PIT file so you can re-partition properly.
Exactly what imnuts said. People sending their phones back for warranty replacement due to mistakes THEY made themselves is exactly why verizon is locking bootloaders and why rooting voids your warranty. If people took responsibility for their own actions, the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for the consequences.
Should change the title to I bricked my phone by flashing a kernel that was not made for my phone. The kernel did not brick your phone you did by making a really bad decision.
This thread is bad and you should feel bad, too.

This may be the most ridiculous thread I've seen in a long time. But only the fact instead of paying for his mistake he thinks some how is Samsung responsibly, but how completely ridiculous he was to knowingly flash a note 2 kernel on a s3.
op why do you think there are different sub forums for phones and even carriers. You're probably one of the people who flashed an international ROM too. ...Then sent your hard bricked phone in for warranty

Phone did the OTA update from today (5/2/13), rebooted to the green android, progress got to about 3/4 done and the screen goes black, battery was full charge.

Stated that in the OP, battery was full when I started the update. Only took it about 5 minutes before it went black, so I know the battery isn't the issue.
You may have bricked your phone. You're not supposed to run the update if you're rooted and unlocked, something about it not being able to update with a custom recovery. I almost made the same mistake.
