So I'm sure most of you are having trouble with slow charging on USB. My problem is that my tginderbolt is seeing my car charger as a USB charger instead of an AC charger. Its a ggrffin dual USB charger, 1amp per port, so pretty high power. My Droid x sees the charger as AC and charges at near 1amp. It appears they haven't enables fast charge on USB yet. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this.
I have tried a few different kernals, wiping, reinstalling, different cables, disabling fast boot. Anything else?
I had the same experience with a single port Scosche 1A adapter I bought at Walmart for about $15. My phone only showed USB when hooked up to it. Returned it and bought a 1A USB adapter from monoprice.com for less than $2 (minus s/h) and it shows as AC when charging.

Funny thing is my Droid x sees it as AC. When I was running gb with the fast charge it was charging my phone at near 700mA.
It is strange... My dad's Droid 2 would show AC as well, no idea why. The significantly cheaper price of the second adapter kind of made me give up being bothered to actually pull out the multitester to find out.

I would like to cut the htc usb cable and replace it with a standard micro usb piece. I am just not sure if the charging current of the htc is not to high for other devices like my galaxy s.
For the people who like to ask "why do you want,..."; I don´t like to carry thousands of cable with me and the standard micro usb chargers charge the flyer slowlyer than the original.

standard usb chargers can only yield 5W, which is why HTC has provided a customized charger for the flyer / view.

Drives me nuts that they changed the connection. Finding the stupid ExtMicro or what ever they call it is hard. I ordered two last week and I won't get them until the end of this week. If anyone knows where to get them please let me knowing.... I think they come from the UK. You have to be really careful when buying cables, if it doesn't say ExtMicro USB it won't work. I almost bought one at buy.com that said it was for the flyer so I called them I the rep said that all the cables that say HTC flyer won't work unless it says ExtMicro USB. Good luck

The HTC charger supplies 9 volts @ 1.2 amp. Which it clearly states on the label.
This may be too much for some USB devices.
USB chargers supply 5 volts usually at .5 amp.
The Flyer has two batteries inside and really needs the extra power.
The ExtMicro connector is HTC proprietary.
Ok, So will it hurt my Flyer to use a standard Micro USB? I know it's not the correct Voltage and Amperage but it does keep my tab charged while i'm at work.

it won't hurt it.
won;t hurt, but s USB port will not supply enough juice to charge while you have the Flyer on. If you turn it off or off the screen it will charge it......... s l o w l y...

But the different connection has a deeper sense.
Using the original cable, the flyer is charged with 9V @ 1,2Amps, which is about 4-times faster then a standard microUSB can handle.
So changing the connector of the original carger will kill all "normal microUSB" devices.
Nevertheless, a standard microUSB-cable can be used too, but charging will take much longer. Even more, on heavy use, you will get the warning, that the drain of the battery is higher than the charging current.
I don't think the cable matters? I understand that the charger matters as it provides different amount of volt/amperage, but I thought the cable it self merely passes through whatever electricity is provided?
I use the same cable, the one that came with my Kindle to charge my Samsung Focus and the Evo View, and it seems to work just fine - i haven't tried watching a movie while charging, however.

Any regular micro USB will charge the view. It will charge, but it will not charge as fast as it would with the charger it comes with. I have tried charging my rezound with that charger, and it will not charge it, probably because of the huge output. So changing the tip to micro USB would probably work to charge the view, but trying to charge another device with it could probably fry it. There are quite a few places that sell the OEM charger like HTC pedia. Its a bit expensive but I would always recommend using the OEM charger.

A standard USB charger will not charge the Flyer or View while operating. Its simply cannot provide the required supply of 9v @ 1.2 amp. that the Flyer need.
It will s l o w l y charge the Flyer while its off or asleep. And the special connector provides extra contacts to handle the additional current. It's HTC proprietary.

I had the same problem. I broke my gf's Flyer charger. I had a hard time finding a replacement. However, Sprint and ATT carry similar chargers for their HTC tablets, View and Jetstream, respectively, The ATT Jetstream charger is $30 plus tax and the Sprint View charger is $35 plus tax.
The ATT charger is shown as white on their website. The Sprint charger is shown as being black.

Has anyone else used the PowerGen car charger with the Note? I have a handful of other ones that all claim to fast-charge devices, but apparently it only works with iPhones and iPads. But since the PowerGen unit is on the list, can I assume people have used it and confirmed it will give me a 1A charge rate on the Note? I need a charger that can keep up with the Note occasionally drawing 1.4 A or more (display 100% brightness, GPS, LTE, Bluetooth all active, running Navigation).
A quick search for "powergen" in this forum only brings up the above thread.
Works like a champ. My battery was charging at 1600mAh while streaming soundcloud and using navigation. Definitely does the job.
I am using my car charger for galaxy tab 10.1 (2.0 amp) and it is working much better than any of the 1 amp chargers I have tried, OEM, boxwave, etc...
I also use the GT 101. 110V charging brick, so when I travel, only one brick and two cables. My experience is that the 2 amp charger works really well and will charge the phone while using GPS full time, where the OEM charger and other 1 amp chargers either maintain charge, or slightly discharge.
Thanks for the confirmation! Of course, now I discover Amazon won't ship that to Canada, and amazon.ca does not carry it. :crying: I'd go see what TELUS has to offer, but I'm sure it will be A) expensive and B) not have dual USB ports, or perhaps not even a detachable cord.
If you do find one, also buy a charge-only usb cord.

Is that still needed if the charger itself correctly supports fast charging? The cord I use now is the one from my Touchpad. I get 1 A to the Note from the AC plug, and the Touchpad gets around 1.8 A. I do also have a charge-only cable (much thinner cord, only two wires), but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

The cord from the touchpad is probably wired correctly internally for fast charge. I bought a similar dual car charger and did not see a difference with the micro usb sync cable. I only saw a difference with a charge-only micro usb cable. The phone sees what pins are connected and determines if it is going to charge in usb charge mode(<=500ma) or AC charge mode(>=500ma).

So you use the Touchpad USB micro cable to charge your Note in the car? I thought the cable is too short? I am looking for a LONG USB micro cable that is shorted so it will give >500mA.
I am planning to buy the PowerGen but I need recommendation on the CORRECT USB cable that is long enough.

Then it sounds like that car charger was an "iPad-compatible" one, i.e.: it does not have D+/D- shorted out to indicate to non-Apple devices that it is capable of more than 500 mA.

The cable is about a meter in length. I only need about half that to reach from the plug to the phone mount on the dash.

So then how does it charge fast then? If the cable isn't shorted? Motorola does the same thing. IIRC its a shorted setup to allow for fast charging. All of my USB cables come from Samsung, HP, and Motorola and I use them as data cables as well

You short the pins inside the AC adapter or car charger, rather than the cable. If I understand correctly, the danger of using a charge-only cable is if you plug it into an actual USB port that isn't designed to supply more than 500 mA. Your device could then try to pull down, say, 2000 mA and potentially damage the power supply on your laptop or desktop.

I'm using the Rocketfish 3.1A Model# RF-M657D with my Note. While using Google Nav, lowest brightness, keys backlight off, Sync off, HSPA+, the phone still loses charge (albeit, slowly). I'm assuming this is because the charger is not internally shorted between pins two and three as it is marketed as a iPad/iPhone charger. I'm using a Belkin Data/Charge cable so I know that is not shorted.
I have been doing some reading and last night, I purchased the "Satechi Smart Adapter Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S (I can't post links yet, google it.) so I will report back when I receive and pair it with the Rocketfish.

Where/how do you get this info? Asking because I'm curious to see how my car charger does. It has usb ports rated at 2A, and I think it's 2A shared instead of per port, but want to see how it actually does when plugged in.

My rocket fish model must put out more than yours. My pic is above your post. With Google Nav, Google play music (streaming, not native music), full sync, brightness to at least 50% it only lost 4% over 30-40mins.

From what I read, your charger is an .5 amp.
It's not like my phone dies or anything, but it'll lose like 5% an hour and I could be exaggerating. Are you using a charge-only cable or modded cable/charger at all? Like I said, I think this phone is only pulling down 460mA without said mod and I find 1600mA to be incorrect as I read the Note will only pull down 960mA max. We'll see what this adapter does for my charge times.

They only thing I'm using is that exact setup posted. RF adapter and a Motorola atrix desktop dock charge cable.. (basically just a longer version of the standard wall charger)

OK, I lied, I'm using the OEM cable that came with the Motorola Atrix 4G, not the longer cable from the desktop dock. I just checked my car and that's the cable that's in there.

I noticed a lot of people want a fast charger for the Note. This charger is for the Touchpad. I have this and it works really well. It charges faster than the OEM charger that came with the Note.
Not to mention, it is on sale right now for less than $5. Go grab one. From past experience, I used this at 15% battery life and charged for an hour and I was back over to 80%.:victory:

Yes, it is a micro USB cable. One end is USB and other is micro USB. The cable length is longer than most phone cables. I haven't measured it, but from my plug to my desk, I still have excess cable compared to the original one from the phone.

That 1amp is the output of the charger which forwards the current to kernel of the device... NOTE can only intake 1 amp current... ( remove your battery and read the dam sticker :thumbup
Even though you will supply 2 3 4 5 amp... The maximum in would be 1 amp ONLY...
SECONDLY, micro usb cables have a restriction of carrying current... They cannot pass more than 1 amp current successfully... Therefore galaxy tab series does not come with micro usb slots....
Lastly my recommendation would be NOT to waste money on any other chargers...

It has been discussed, but it DOES charge faster than a conventional 1amp charger. If you don't have the charger and have nothing to compare with, then I don't think you can say it does not work.
Go check FCC about the charge. Also, the cables provided DOES carry a 2amp charge. Our note can handle fast charging but throttles down to a slower charging rate after 80%.

Firstly, I have tried to use with a 2amp charger that came with my SGT P1000.. NO DIFFERENCE...
SECONDLY, PULL OUT BATTERY AND READ!
Google for micro usb cable max output... You will get your answers...

You don't have to get your panties in a twist. Rather than just read forums and assume the worst of everything try it for yourself. I've tried both and it is faster. Just trying to help my fellow Note users to get the best out of their phones.

As an HP TouchPad owner, I can confirm that the cable provided with the charger are 'special'. My TP will not charge with any other MicroUSB cable connected to the official charger, the same cables which won't charge the TP will charge the Note. (I also own the HP touchstone dock, which the TP spends most of it's life sitting on.)

I have four different wall chargers, including two of this HP barrel adapter (one that came with the TouchPad, one that came with the Touchstone). With the supplied cable, it does charge the TouchPad very quickly. From webOS, the net charge rate is about 1.6 A with the screen on, so probably close to 2 A coming out the USB port.
However, when you plug a Note into this charger, the Note will still only draw 1 A. I have other AC chargers that are also able to supply 1 A to the Note, so in that respect this HP charger isn't anything special. However, it is only $5, which is a good deal.

I've found that the microUSB cable that comes with the Note, when paired with the HP TouchPad's AC charger, will supply 2 A. At least, that's what the OS reports: /sys/devices/platform/usb_gadget/current-mA shows "2000". Plugging the TouchPad into the Note's AC charger shows a value of "900". Plugging it into my laptop's USB port drops that value down to "500", as expected.
I bought two a week ago off Amazon for $10 each. $5 each with free shipping is a steal. I picked up three more. Thanks for posting this deal. I get 1A charging with either the stock charger or TP charger. I like to have a few extra chargers to sprinkle around at home or work (for my Note and the other devices I own that charge off USB.... including a TP).

When you charge your phone using this HP microUSB cable, do you have issue with NO DEEP SLEEP when unplugging the Note from the charger?
There has been issues reported in XDA where, depending on the USB cables used to charge the Note (connected to computer OR power charger), if you unplug the Note, it will not go DEEP SLEEP, causing significant power drain.
This does NOT happen when the Note is charged using the cable that came with the Note.
Download Current Widget from the play store. Add widget to home screen and you will realize that your phone is not charging any more than 1 amp as designed.
Try the usb out from your pc and you will see about half an amp.

I have the galaxy tab brick charger the HP touch pad charger and my note charging brick....the touchpad charger works faster...but I feel like it doesn't get fully charged..seems to die faster?. I used the galaxy tab brick...slow to charge warms my phone up nicely...I'd stick with the original note charger.

I charge my Note overnight using my Touchpad's MicroUSB cable plugged into the Samsung charger, and I don't experience any difference in power drain.
Where is that post from the guy who put all these petty arguments to rest with scientific tests of all the various options and results??

1 at work, 2 for home.
definitely faster than OEM. I charge overnight, no issues. had for around 5-6 months now. and i can use the phone while charging.
fact is that it DOES charge faster.

I'm switching from iPhone to the note 3. As a result, I will need to replace all of my chargers. I would like to order about 6 chargers and I want them to be a little longer than normal because I would constantly get fed up with the short apple cable. The new chargers should be the correct voltages for the Note. I would prefer the cable to be detachable from the power supply. Is there a goto charger that you guys use? Thanks!
Gotta see what voltage the note3 will carry. Also do you want all the cables to be the Micro USB 3.0 or 2.0?

Well from what I've read, USB 2.0 will charge just as fast from a wall outlet. I will just use the one USB 3.0 that comes with phone for my computer. So I will primarily be using these from a wall charger so I'll go with whichever one is cheaper.
You can also just goto Amazon.com and look for microUSB 3.0 cables and find plenty of them since its an industry standard and you don't have to pay $29 for a cable like apple rips their isheep off with.

Just a tip-- When I had my Note 2, I purchased extra USB cords from E-Bay. It might not hurt to check Samsung's website and look at the product name/ID for their OEM items, and then just get a few of those off E-Bay or Amazon. the native Samsung A/C Adapter with the powerful amps makes a huge difference too. and you can almost always get it for under $10.

I'm not 100% on this but from what I have gathered it has the wireless charging pins but you would have to buy the Samsung wireless charging back plate for it similar to the S4.

Not sure where your from...but if you have a 5 below store you can buy chargers, cables, cases for your note for $5 or less....I bought them for the note 2 and all worked without issue...:laugh:
Theres no point for usb 3 cables, they only add data pins. BUT if you plug into a real usb 3 port/computer, the phone MAY tell it to send higher wattage.

You can buy the wireless charging battery door from Samsung or Samsung S-View cover with wireless charging built in and get the wireless charger.
the standard usb cables of galaxy s3 will not fit to the note 3 ?
update : i see now review that show that the standard usb2 cable will fit too

I am in the same predicament, I just want a 3m or 5m cable because the stock cable is too short for my liking, but the data socket on the note 3 is different then the other Samsung products, im guessing that this is a result of the usb3, but so far I haven't found anything on amazon or eBay that has the new socket only the old micro usb plugs which is know good to me,
And help would be great, I'm from the UK so shipping must include that.

Also, you can use your micro usb chargers, just plug it into the bigger side of the usb 3 socket. It won't be long before we all have a bunch of usb 3 cables lying around though, as more hard drives and stuff come with them.
Oh wow so that's why the new port looks that way, backwards compatibility!! Nice oh problem solved, I still need a longer cable as my usb3 socket is a bit awkward to get to on my PC, so I wil look at the suggested weblink and see what happens,

anyone know if this is like the note 1, where you use a non-samsung cable, the charging voltage was reduced? there was some command to run in a terminal window that showed charge current. i don't recall.
i don't know if that's what did it, but at some point my note1's battery got ruined..where i couldn't get more than 10 minutes off the charger without a forced reboot. and all sorts of weirdness.

I've used non OEM cables and wall plugs, and it charges the same.
USB 2.0, USB 3.0 doesn't make a difference. OEM, non OEM doesn't make a difference.
OEM puts out at least 2 amps. Alot of other chargers put out much less so it will take longer to charge.
