Preparing to Sell rooted Atrix 4G - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife wanted new phones since our contract was up. As a result I will be selling my Atrix which has CM 10.1 that epinter is working on. As some features do not work with this ROM, is there a suggested best ROM with most or all functions working to install before selling???

It pretty much comes down to the buyer's preference, pretty much the same as it was with user preference for you. Some prefer stock or tweaked/modded stock to use stock features like lapdock, some prefer third party GB based ROM's to be able to use everything reliably, and some are willing to sacrifice certain features to be able to use ICS or JB ROM's.
I've seen pretty often where the seller gives the end user the choice of ROM to be installed, not just for phones, but tablets as well.

I've been very happy with MROM as my choice for a GB rom..

I'd say flashing the latest stock ROM is the safest choice. Any buyer that cares about custom ROMs will probably be advanced enough to flash one themselves. Plus, it's so much sweeter when you mod your phone yourself instead of it coming premodded.

OP, did your wife have a rooted Atrix 4G that you sold on ebay a few months back? If so, I'm pretty sure I was the buyer!
Anyway, my Atrix came unlocked and rooted with Neutrino (CM7) flashed. I installed GO Launcher (perhaps negating the quickness Neutrino intended), but I love it.
Best part, I am on T-mobile, so when I got the phone a few months back, it wouldn't work on 4G; but now that T-Mobile has rolled out their new band to attract iPhone users (1900 I believe), I get HSPA+ almost everywhere I go. Of course now, apparently, unlocking a new phone is illegal so all T-mobile's work may have been for naught.
As a total noob when I bought the phone, I was happy to have it pre-rooted and flashed, and Neutrino served quite well - simple, fast but highly customizable. I was terrified of the thought of "bricking" my phone, but I was quite fed up with the Motoblur crap that had seriously bogged down my previous phone (cliq xt, which I rooted myself later on ).

That might be true for those of us who check xda regularly, but not everyone enjoys the modding process. I would suggest offering a choice between stock or a rom. I have no clue how this will affect the selling price since some people might not care and might just skip over your phone for an easier option.

Help!!!

Im sorry for posting this and request the mod to delete after i have read a reply ( 1 week),
Question:
I have a topaz and i wanted to trade it in for hero:
1) hero is on a carrier and is unlocked, should i go for it?
2) does unlocked carrier phones work fine in all its functions?
3) does modifications work? like custom roms?
4) Is it worth it cuz im sick of wm n i love android interface?
5) what will i be missing if i do decide to switch? (compared to wm)
@1) if it's unlocked, it should be fine on any network.
@2) Yes. Plenty of people on these forums have unlocked their phones with no issues.
@3) Absolutely! There are plenty of good custom ROMs out there (I'd recommend Modaco Custom ROM personally (hero.modaco.com). Depending on the software version of the phone, you root the phone and install a patched recovery. Then you can add a custom rom using a patched recovery (check the sticky-wikis if you want more details)
@4) Yeah IMHO it is miles better than WinMo. Watch a couple of youtube videos of the Hero though, as it doesn't look like stock android (HTC adds sense interface) but I think it makes it better. But a custom ROM will let you change the look too!
@5) Well, you'll miss the 'fun' of trying to poke at tiny buttons with your finger like on WinMo Seriously, I don't think there's much to miss. Once you get into android, it's pretty easy to do stuff, and the market is good for apps. (check out androlib.com for an idea of what's out there).
If you can, why not go to a phone shop and see if they have one out on demo to play with (Carphone Warehouse and T-Mobile) in the UK, both have a display model in pretty much all their stores. See if you like it, then trade in if you want.
What country are you in, if you don't mind me asking (to give you an idea of prices etc)?

anon ...that was an awesome reply lol you made my day... now all i have to do is sell of my td2... i hope i get a good price cuz i know this guy who is selling his he got it in sep and its like brand new, well kept.
Well about my location lets just say that its a place where dere is no htc so over here price ranges from $365 to $426 for used and $550 to 500 brand new
Ouch. That's pricey!
Here in the UK, I got mine for free on an 18 month contract giving 800 mins, 500 texts and unlimited (3GB) internet. all for £21.50 per month (very special deal. Was meant to be about £40 per month, so
That comes out to £387, which is US$625 by today's exchange rate, and that includes tonnes of usage!
Yeah. I'd get the Hero and trade in the td2.
hero tmobile
hey bro just wanted to ask im getting a hero on t-mobile... has there been updates for it and if i want to update my rom wat do i do n how do i go about it n do i need to take care of anything with t-mobile hero?
basically guy had it there n now he's selling it here.. so let me know if i should go for it
OK. So there's different versions of the G2 about. Some have the older software (1.76) and others have the newer stuff (2.73). If you have the older one, you will have an update available. See http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS for details (make sure you look at G2 stuff, not the Pulse )
But, T-Mobile are very slow at releasing their updates, so you might want to go down the custom ROM route, so you have a rooted phone and unofficial software. I run modaco custom ROM on mine (http://hero.modaco.com) and have done since the day I bought the phone.
There should be a version of Android 2.1 coming out in February, so if you want to get the update sooner, I'd root and install a custom ROM, so that when 2.1 comes out, you can just grab a rooted copy of it from here or modaco and run it. No waiting that way.
And if it was up to me, I'd get the Hero and trade in the topaz.

Atrix, should I buy or not

hi guys,
I know this has been asked already, but all I see are very old threads and a lot has changed since.
Since the Galaxy SII and sensation are available now, so my question is should I buy an Atrix or should i look for other options. I am asking this question here as most of the people are using Atrix and can better tell how the phone is. If given a second chance will you buy Atrix again ?
It really depends on the money you want to spend. I got the Atrix for $99 on contract, so it was attractive to me. The higher res display was also a plus for me. When the GB update comes it'll be nice to have the 1080p recording. Also the lapdock function works fantastically for me. I travel a lot and it's nice to be able to use my phone as a laptop and charge it at the same time.
But the Galaxy S2 has a slightly faster CPU, same RAM and the display is leagues ahead in color reproduction. Seriously, looking at them is sort of unnerving because of the ridiculously bright colors.
Otherwise I'm sure they're fairly comparable.
Decide for yourself, then you can't come back here and complain to us when you're not happy.
well i have had most of the latest android phones out there at the moment and currently have the Atrix.
Things i like about it are...
1. The size, i find that the 4" screen and overall size of the phone are perfect for me, fits great in the hand and i can select most things with one hand.
2. Screen quality is great..more 'natural' than the galaxy s2, just a shame they didnt coat the screen in the same way to resist fingerprints
3. Call quality is excellent, audio quality through headphones i find to be really good (i use Klipsch x10) and it sounds great.
4. External speaker is one of the best ive known on a phone, better than the iphone 4 and galaxy s2...yes ive owned both.
5. notification led....many of the current android phones seem to leave this out but im glad the Atrix has one as its really useful.
Things i dont like....
1. 2.2 Froyo....really, along with moto-blur nearly ruin a great phone. The phone really dosent perform like a 2 core phone. However, this can be improved by using an alternative launcher like ADW ex....thats what i am using and makes scrolling between screens much smoother and less laggy.
2. The wait for gingerbread.....Motorola could be onto a big fail like sony ericcson did when they brought out the xperia x10 with android 1.6...it had everything going for it then they slaughterd it with 1.6! crazy!
Other than the fact that it is let down by having froyo i like everything else about the phone..infact i probably find it worse than others might because i have owned the galaxy s2 quite recently (sold because it was too big for me to hold in one hand) and that phone is fantastic. Very smooth and very quick...this really is where the Atrix should be
Just my view of course...
will i stick with the Atrix?.......well if gingerbread comes out in the next couple of weeks then there is every chance...if not....well i like the look of the xperia neo
these are the facts
this phone is awesome
it sucks in the same respect bc nobody, wants to dev for it, i have not seen a single anything in the last 6 months, and finally we get a leaked buggy build from hongkong and an unlocked bl
id say 90% of atrix script kiddies on here suck
, all they do is ***** about release dates, and when is cyanogen coming, and when someone finally releases something, they troll the boards just ripping the guy a new a**hole
this phone is great but if you like modding your phone and flashing custom roms
this phone will never be there in my opinion,
and it doesnt even need an xda portal bc nothing is being developed, just gingerbread skins
and questions being asked over and over and over.
so in conclusion buy the gs2 if you like roms go to that thread , theres a ton
and if you like a great phone thats small and has a high resolution, and will probably never see a custom rom, but is stable, buy the atrix

wohooo..that is like too much of hatred.
Let me put in some facts regarding the development in this one:-
The BL has just been unlocked and custom roms are being worked on, you need to follow the devs on twitter and check out the Atrix dev section on Rootzwiki, just go the irc chat and find out more.
Official GB should be released soon, if it is not then an Atrix has already been donated to the CM team and CM should come out for the Atrix.
The leaked 2.3.4 build has nearly been perfected and AFAIK it is fit for daily use.
thanks for all the suggestions. I am quite fond of flashing ROMs. I bought a HD2 just because of its ability for modifications. since there isn't much work being done on moding Atrix, I guess I'll have to opt for Galaxy SII (btw I didn't like it due to its size)
There is a ton of development going on now for the Atrix. The last couple of weeks has been insane as far as that goes. Official Gingerbread 2.3.4 is rumored to come out this month. There is a leaked version that is pretty stable out now. The boot-loader is now FINALLY unlock-able so DEVs are going to and have already started new Kernels and ROMs. Choice is yours though.
Nah..don't bother with the stupid 2.3.4 Chinese leak. Its buggy and some limited functionality. Don't really see the point of flashing to the leak 2.3.4 update then reflashing it with the official 2.3.4 update. Flash much!?
Buy the Atrix when the official 2.3.4 comes out and check back XDA after a couple of months when fully functional roms and themes comes out. No need to frustrate urself and end up like the other idiots who can't read and flashed 2.3.4 and screwed up. Alot of that been happening lately.

[Q] So, I can get a Photon for cheap...

But after doing some searching here it appears that:
- if the Photon is on 2.3.4 it's usable, rootable, and even possible to unlock the bootloader allowing for most any ROM in the development subforum and even updating/upgrading to the KDDI radio to make GSM usage possible here in the US
- if the Photon is on 2.3.5 it's basically dead in the water and practically no mods at all are possible (I'm saying practically no mods, because some do exist) until hopefully someone discovers a root or unlocking method for the bootloader
For all the Q&A things and FAQs etc, it sure seems pretty logical that somewhere, in big banner font that's bolded and italicized that if you have a 2.3.4 Photon MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TAKE THE OTA UPDATE TO 2.3.5. Wonder why that oh-so-simple yet oh-so-valuable piece of information isn't just slammed in people's faces right from the gitgo.
Am I correct in my appraisal of 2.3.4 vs 2.3.5 'cause it's pretty tough to locate a Photon with 2.3.4 on it anymore, the one I just found on craigslist is cheap ($50 with all the original stuff including box too) but it's 2.3.5. I know that's still a fantastic price for a solid Motorola Photon that works without any known issues (even has an 8GB microSD card in it), and I know that Motorola keeps saying they'll be coming out with an official ICS for the Photon (later this year), but... even for $50 is it worth it to get a Photon if I can't do anything but run it pure stock until... well, a miracle happens?
Any info is appreciated, opinions and suggestions too.
Yeah, that's the short version. You are correct.
I think I'd buy it at $50 regardless. If/when the official ICS shows up you'll be glad you did.

Hello and welcome. Yessir you are right on most everything. Except consider the fact that you still have the ability to use two great actively updated roms. Technically having a locked bootloader just prevents you from using a custom kernel. You can run any rom you want as long as its compatible with the stock kernel -- that means only blurbased roms. Granted youll be stuck in gingerbread, but Peetrs hybridrom is more or less a complete deblur so its just like running a clean aosp gingerbread rom. So given that, if moto releases official ics im positive someone will deblur that aswell, giving you a generally clean ics. Point is, youre not completely screwed intoanything using stock. But even if you were, stock is actually not bad at all and you can still root and mold it how you like. For 50 bucks? You wont be disappointed. And even if you are, you can get much more than 50 bucks off of it if you throw it on ebay.
Yah, I figured as much. The primary beef for me is it being 2.3.4 and having missed the opportunity to install that KDDI radio - I don't use Sprint so I had serious hope of getting it working with that T-Mobile $30/unlimited data plan (I live in Vegas and T-Mobile now finally covers that band here afaik, could be delayed but I'm pretty sure it's in effect now).
Since that's a non-option now, I'll still consider getting the Photon. I played with one a few weeks ago, was somewhat disappointed in some aspects, that Tegra 2 had so much potential but it's so weak by comparison. Irritates me to no end it lacks proper video decoding support for some of the stuff I use (MX Player can play most anything, but it's forced to use software decoding for some of the files I have because the Tegra 2 just won't do hardware decoding of some h.264 profiles and it really sucks).
But yeah, for $50 I suppose it's not a bad deal overall for a dual core smartphone these days. Would rather have an Atrix 2 like I did a few months ago but, can't find one of those under $150 these days. Doesn't stop me from scanning craigslist almost constantly, however.

Most stable custom or stock ROMs for 4G LTE?

I'm looking for advice on the most stable custom or stock ROMs for an Evo 4G LTE. Note I'm not saying "best," I fully understand that "best" is subjective and in the eye of the beholder and there's no answer to this question. I'm saying "stable," as in everything works that's supposed to work, just like it's supposed to work, including the camera (which I know is an issue with some custom ROMs, but that's a non-negotiable thing for me, camera's got to work).
I got my Evo earlier this year, it's my first smartphone, and I love it. It's not new, but it's perfect for me, got a 64-gig card in it so it's got plenty of memory for all I want to do with it, and I'm looking to get a couple of years out of it. It's rooted, flashed to Page Plus and is running MeanBean 3.03. It came that way, I didn't do the modifications, but I think I've done sufficient homework to where I'm prepared to try to flash another ROM.
I love MeanBean, but it's based on 4.1.1 and as such is vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug. I'm not panicking at that, I don't use my phone for any financial transactions and am careful with what sites I access, I'm prepared to go as-is for a while, but I'm thinking at some point it probably would be wise to change.
Again, I'm more interested in stability than "newest with all the bells and whistles." And I'm particularly interested in something that's not likely to break my flash to Page Plus, although if I have to have that redone, so be it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance here.
Greetings!
Unfortunately such "Best ROM" threads meet their demise quite readily.
It is a demonstrable fact that there is no "Best ROM" and that opinions differ like the spots on a giraffe, or the different barrels that Donkey Kong throws at you whilst attempting to climb ladders.
As such, please feel free to peruse the development forums and determine for yourself which ROM is best, or most stable, or earns the most bacon points.
Thanks!

How good do you think development will be for the G5?

I'm on Sprint so if I go Galaxy I have no chance of getting root based on what I'm hearing right now. So a big selling point here is the ability to actually do some decent, cool root stuff on the G5. However, in the past I've mainly used root for wireless tether, but I now have hotspot so that won't be a huge deal either. I never had the V10 or G4—was the development decent there? Do you think it'll be decent on the G5?
Put differently, what are some of the main things you'd need to see in development for G5 in order to think it's worth getting over the Galaxy S7 or S7E, *and* do you think we'll see those things?
Thanks!!
The biggest thing for me is that I enjoy using a stock rom over the different softwares that phones come preinstalled with. From what I have seen many different developers already plan on porting Cyanogenmod for the G5 if you enjoy using a custom rom. The biggest reason I chose the G5 over any Galaxy is the fact that I really don't like Touchwiz at all and if there is a chance of not being able to root it and get away from that terrible software I wouldn't want to take the risk.

Yeah, I'm not big into custom roms, actually. Too much work! When you say stock roms here, are you including stock but rooted?
So basically you chose it because of your dislike for Touchwiz, not because of development potential? And when's the last time you interacted much with Touchwiz (I've never owned a Samsung but I hear people saying it's gotten a lot better, and accusing Touchwiz haters of not having tried recent versions...not saying that's the case with you but just trying to get a feel here.) I've got to two stores to demo the Galaxies but they are in retail mode so I can't really tell if I'll like it or not (which is super frustrating!!).
Being on Sprint you can count on there being less development for it's version than the others. But there should surely be some and able to take some advantage of things from other versions. Check the G4 and G3 too see how different the amount of stuff for Sprint is. Darn CDMA lol

This is very true I haven't personally owned a Galaxy phone since the S2 Epic 4G Touch and I know Touchwiz has gotten better since then since I have many friends who run Touchwiz. However, I still don't like Touchwiz even with the improvements they have made to their software. Also, when I say stock I do mean stock rooted roms and these do come out for most variants of phones.
The only probelm is that atleast Tmo's version has a locked bootloader just like the S7, so how are you going to install custom roms ??
