Simply, no. If you move from 4:3 (or 16:12, to clarify the point) resolution to 16:9, you will lose pixels since there's only 9 pixels vertical for every 16 horizontal instead of 12. And since we're already at the top end of the camera, we can't compensate that by adding horizontal pixels to keep the total amount same. So you will lose pixels if you want to take widescreen images, no matter what.

This is really bad for so called PHONE OF THE YEAR.
Is this feature added in any custom rom?

The average user and some of most advanced users don't care about this.
So just because it doesnt do what you want means it cant be the phone of the year.
Myself doesn't know what you talking about

Only solution is to use 6mp mode for widescreen photos. I use CameraZoomFX

Yes I think so, as its one of the basic feature which even every ordinary phone possess.

The only solution with the stock camera app is to use 6MP or any resolution on the phone marked W. You cant use 8. So answer is a NO.

[Q] s3 ROM for s2?

All that I can find is Nexus's ICS
And jb
Is there any s3 ROM for s2?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Nope ...but there are themes and mods to get your phone to look like the S3
Na , i want the ROM for its uses not for beauty
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Some features like smart stay and pop up video have been implemented on the S2. Others, like the camera functionality, which are h/w dependent obviously won't be possible on the S2.

Which camera stuff?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Burst photography. There are apps available on the market that can do it but nothing near as good as the s3 camera does. Also the ability to take pictures while recording video.

Ah i see. However for the latter, the HTC One series includes this feature. On my DS the feature was ported from the One V Sense ROM and it works. But it lags a bit though.
I guess with the S3 Mini, we should have some decent ROM pets as they have the same size screen.

Why is the screen so dim?

I was comparing this phone to my galaxy s3. The s3 is so much brighter. I know there are many threads about different screen issues but none that talked about the brightness. Do I possibly have a defective one? Is there a tweak for this? Has anyone else experience this and was able to fix it by installing a custom Rom?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
They both have different types of screens. The GS3 has an amoled display. The HTC one has an SLCD3 display. Different properties of displaying color and brightness. BTW when it is dim, do you have it set at auto brightness or none at all?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
It's not on auto. Power save is off along with everything else. So it's on maximum brightness. So basically amoled is the way to go.

You came to the wrong conclusion
All the reviews with benchmarks on screen brightness all show the One to be much much brighter than the S3 and S4. My guess us your One is defective, A quick trip to an ATT or T-Mobile store will confirm that.

Best camera for 4.3 roms

So I just flashed a 4.3 ROM and noticed the camera doesn't shoot wide screen and I have the two black bars along the sides.
Are there any apps that will be similar to the stock Samsung camera app??
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I don't know if it is similar, but look at "focal".

Thanks but focal also doesn't capture the full wide screen.

Check out Snap Camera in the play store.
Sorry, for my incorrect answer.

Try shooting at 4128x2322.
I have to second the recommendation for focal, even though it's fairly new.
It's one of the best free cameras you can get in the Play store right now, and supports multiple shooting sizes which may resolve your issue.
Default 4.3 cam...at least on SlimROM. Go into settings, then click the second icon in from the right. The one labeled "True View" it changes the display to either show in the fixed res or fill the screen.

Stock gallery photo editing compresses file

Love the phone but I tweaked a photo the phone compressed the file down to 245kb from 3mb. Does anybody know how I can keep original resolution without using a 3rd party app to do minor photo edits??
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
What tweaking did you do? I set a wallpaper from the home screen settings menu and it for sure did not compress it. Did you by any chance crop it with a certain resolution set?

It does not compress when setting a wallpaper. All I did was straighten a sunset very slightly. Once edit is complete it will save a copy of the edited photo in the gallery. The edited copy went from 3mb to 247kb.
It does this with any edit. I tried several. Please try to edit a photo in gallery with the stock edit tools by clicking the pencil at the top and see.

You are right, it's horrible...
Sent from my LG-F320L using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I feel like I must be missing a save setting or something. It doesn't make any sense they would do that on purpose considering the camera is so good.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Even the stock Google gallery app does this to some degree (though that sounds far worse). I've always used snapseed for my editing for that reason. Not sure if even that would preserve the original quality though given the 13MP on the g2.
There has to be a way to turn this off somehow
It must indeed be Android specific
Sent from my LG-F320L using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes it sucks, I don't really edit on my phone but its nice to be able to without that happening but I don't see a setting anywhere.
I'm afraid that with epic quality we just need to dump them like a real camera.

Lol last night I just used nfc to beam a pic to my fiancee gs4, edited it, then beamed it back to my g2. Pathetic but it worked.

Yes but I haven't looked for one yet. Its just disappointing that I would have to use one. It's like buying a $600 watch that keeps perfect time but no dial to set it.

Nexus 4 Screen Resolution

My screen resolution is reading 640 x 384 on whatismyscreenresolution.com. I've tried other websites and they also read the same. Is this normal? I thought the screen resolution was much greater than that?
I removed the soft keys in the system file. Is that why it isn't reading correctly?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That should not be the case. You could try to confirm your screen resolution by taking a screenshot and simply read off the information from that image.
Also, this has nothing to do with "themer"-app, but I assume the name confused you.
Oh I'm on the wait list for the app but it has resolution restrictions, which is why I asked here

any help to solve mess of resolution for Nexus 4?
I put in a request for them to support 1280x768, which is the resolution of the Nexus 4 with notification but without the soft keys. That's all I can really do.
