[Q] Using an N7000 ROM as a basis for an i717 ROM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I know of an 7000 has ROM that does multi windows.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981609
SInce I am not a programmer, can someone 'splain in simpleman words why that GN One phone can have a ROM that does multi-window and our phone can't?
Is there a way to convert that ROM to an i717 ROM and retain that capacity?
TIA

The answer to your question about why the N7000 Note has the multi window update, but the I717 Note does not, that it's because the first gets software directly from Samsung, while the second has to have the software from Samsung tested by the carriers first. The phones have different processors and internal components, so software from one can't be typically ported to another all that easily, especially if it something low level, like multi window framework.

So is it not possible or just not probable

it's possible since I have a ported multiwindow rom on my bell s3, we just don't have many devs left especially to tackle a large project like that

Miui ICS on our phones? Possible or not?

The att s2 just got it's port of ICS with a Miui rom.
I know there are hardware differences between our phone and the att one but is it possible?

Of course it's possible, just depends if/when they get around to it.
It's only a half-assed "port" anyway as the full ICS AOSP source tree still hasn't been released and there's certainly no updated-for-ICS hardware drivers yet for pretty much anything other than the new Nexus.
but if they got it to work on thr att model what do we need to make it work on our phones?
or what is the hardware difference that makes that rom unusable on our phones?

[Q] porting

Just a quick question would it be possible to port roms from the international note to our atat note?
Possible? Maybe. Likely? No.

The hardware is completely different. We would have a better chance porting from the skyrocket and/or tmobile SGS2.
Sent from my Saurom Superpowered Note
Been working on that but the resolution is all jacked up.
From what I am finding it is actually easier to kang bits and pieces from either.
A conversion is not likely in either case

Or maybe a hellraiser script from skyrocket roms?
Would it not be the same as porting a i9100 rom over to i777

Absolutely not, the att s2 has the exynos as does the international while the international note has an exynos and we have a snapdragon. Skyrocket to note is probably best but I have been unable to get thingsworking in any way whatsoever (mainly from lack of knowledge, BC it's def doable).
Ok makes sence thinks ill try and work on something
The issue is the difference in resolution....its slmost more worthwhile to start from scratch

I have a SGSII. I can test the Nexus and personally I won't change for it. Ok, the update can be faster, but if you can put CM10 if you want the last version (yes, with some bugs, but they make a excellent job).
Only my opinion...
Nexus' biggest disadvantage: no microSD slot!!
Sent from my GT-I9100
in galaxy nexus 5mp camera. in sgs2 8mp camera
there is no sdcard slot in galaxy nexus.
I choose sgs2 and I don't want change it for galaxy nexus
Have a look at them both here
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung-phones-9.php
Personally would not have a Nexus over SGS2 regardless of updates

Yeah but the s2 is a better device, and it's already on jb. So idk what you mean by fast updates?

Reconsider...
may sound like a good "upgrade" but really I promise it isn't... Galaxy Nexus is same guts with a lesser camera... a more clunky feel in your pocket and lacks gorilla glass.... the development that is going on in the xda community here is far superior to anything you will find stock from the nexus... before you jump ship... give the team's work a try.

updates from google, we have cyanogen with fantastic roms but lacks close sources like video calls and nice camera app like on stock samsung roms
i think the updates to use all the features from the phone are better in nexus devices

u are right, the camera on S2 is amazing, but i have to ask u this, do u have an GNEX? and why the question? im aiming google experience and not the score on quadrant, i know the cpu is the same speed, i know tha S2 as a better gpu but i dont play games
i just dont want to regret after i make the trade
As the other people said, galaxy s2 is better, if you want a fast phone then flash resurrection remix rom

S Pen and custom ROM

Sorry for the lame post, ie can you guys answer my personal question, but i am seriously considering getting the Note 2 when it comes out here in Canada. Thought i would ask you original Note users about custom ROM usability as it is a concern to me.
I am a galaxy nexus user and was hoping to get the next nexus, but since it is being made by LG i have my reservations. I also find myself considering a tablet, but then have to ask myself what i would do on a tablet that i don't already do on my phone, except of course on a larger scale. Which brings me into Phablet territory.
Coming from the nexus, and being the type of Android user who likes the vanilla OS, my concerns revolve around customization. Given that the S Pen functionality is so deeply implemented into the OS does this result in a lesser experience if a custom ROM is flashed? Say you choose to flash one of the new CM10 nightlies. Is it CM10 just like it is on all other phones/tablets, or does it retain the "stuff" that makes the Note what it is....unique?
Any feedback is appreciated, flaming not so much

I just got my note 2 weeks ago. I came from the incredible 2. I had cm 7, 9, and 10 on it. One of the first roms i flashed on my gnote was cm. To me i didn't notice alot of difference. I didn't keep it on long because i wanted the use of the pen. I did find a nice Rom with good features in a stock Rom (black star). Samsung is supposed to release jb for the gnote.so once that happens there will be more options. After that gnote 3 will be out and key lime pie

I was really wondering the same thing, I'm considering the note 2 but will hold off if the s pen functions can't be applied to custom roms. From reading around the forums it looks like the functions probably won't be able to be transferred to aosp roms. I think they're making progress on the note 1, but not all aosp roms have functionality and they still don't have full functionality. It looks like touchwiz roms are fine though, but then again I'm not a note user.
I suppose it would be a lot of extra work for the developer(s) who work on the ROM to integrate such functionality into a ROM for just one device. I'll have to wait and see it when it comes out. Since the Note 2 well be running JB out of the box, a simple root and removal of bloatwear might be all that is needed. I've def become a fan of Samsungs products since the nexus s though. I also have to admit that the look and overall specs of the LG Nexus 4 are pretty underwhelming. I might have to do something crazy, like wait for something else to come along :-S HTCs new 5" phone with 1080p screen might be the sweet spot for me as long as it has good development support. Can't beat HTCs build quality. My hopes for the Note 2 remain high though as i haven't read a negative review yet.

Yeah same here, for me its between the note 2 and the htc 1080p phone. There are some aosp roms with s pen support on the note 1 and it looks like the note 2 will become very popular so there's a good chance cm10 and other roms may have s pen support. The only thing that's keeping me from the note 2 is that samsung isn't releasing as much driver and chip info so developers may not want to or be able to do as much. In the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTRKL5E9Iak and in a few other threads, its said that cyanogenmod won't officially support the note 2 because of that.
I think the problem is that Samsung has not released the source to the pen but i am not 100% sure.

Makes me sad. Although, what really makes me sad is that i have to carefully weigh the decision of which phone to purchase based on how well it will be supported by private developer community. Weird isn't it? I buy a phone, and change it as soon as i take it out of the box. LG Nexus is sounding better now.

looks like if Samsung Note owners want to retain the full functionality of their S Pens, they must stick to stock roms

Hi, I just flash with Omega V9.1 custom rom + RedHill V1.0 kernel + Philz CWM 3.81 recovery on my Note 2 N7100.
Run smoothly with S Pen (auto pop up), multi-windows, swap ext2SD function.. SUPER SMOOTH...:good:
I'm using my spen without any problems on CM10. Gnote and memo beta work better than the Samsung spen app. The only thing missing are the spen genstures and shortcut for screen capture which I never used and there are dozens of screenshot apps.
Why do people act like the spen does not work outside stock?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
The SPen works fine on custom roms, it's the button features that are missing from (moat) 207 custom roms. Personally I prefer the original functionality that the SPen exhibits in touch wiz, so I'm running a stock(ish) rom.
So to answer your question, wait what was your question again?

Ok now that I've re-read your op my advice would be to get the note 2 over the lg nexus. Just look at the hardware specs, and you'll really enjoy the extra square footage once you get to know it.

[Q] turn note into note 2???

Im new to all this ROM stuff is there a walkthrough or video of how to upgrade my note till the multi window rom can it be on just with your phone or do i need to do it on a computer??Thanks.
I don't really think there are "roms and stuff " that convert your note into a note 2!

Note to note 2!
Dafuq?
On a serious note, you can't change your phone into a higher specced one with a bunch of software workarounds...
There surely must be roms with multi view enabled, for the original note...
Search around, and do read and follow things properly...
And can you change thread title to "[Q] Multiview on note?", otherwise people will come and troll you...
The title change will help shoo few of them away
This signature space is dedicated to the OT Thanks feature. RIP OT thanks, you shall be missed.
If you want multi view head to the note forum the new jellybean leaks have this feature and many more!

You can't simply flash the note II firmware to your note.
The minitab rom has a lot of the features from note II and galaxy tablets.
