mdm_hsic_mp0 kernel wakelock? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

First and foremost I'm stock rooted and unlocked (bootloader). Got an Anker 6200 mah battery and recently cycled it for the first time with great results. Used the app battery calibration to wipe stats after charging to 100%. Unplugged the phone and turned on the tether. Noticed it went from 100% to 80% ridiculously fast. Opened up betterbatterystats and realized I had some wlan wakelocks and the top offender was mdm_hsic_mp0 kernel wakelock.
I've found a FEW references to this but not many and still not sure what exactly it is. Nothing unusual pops up in the dump log file. Sure I have a few sync partial wakes but nothing over 4 to 5 seconds. This mdm_hsic_mp0 has been kernel wakelocking for 2 hours. Now, I did turn on my hotspot tether during that time, but strange I never noticed this wakelock prior to this seemingly increased battery drain.
So my question to you all is, what is this wakelock. I've disabled almost all my syncs, no location services on, etc. Trying to eliminate every possible source and build my way back up.
I hate wakelocks about as much as I hate politicians.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Okay left the phone on the charger all night and got her back up to 100%. Now checking BBS this mdm_hsic_pm0 wakelock is still happening. I have not used tether/hotspot what so ever and wifi is off. However I have noticed that when I go to the stock battery stats screen w/in android settings it appears my data is shutting off. Almost like a fast dormancy is taking place to conserve battery. I didn't think Verizon supported fast dormancy. But I do not see any references of "fast dormancy" in BBS.
Any ideas?

I used to have that issue on an old version of cleanrom... I turned off multi windows and that seemed to help it... Not sure if that is it though... Could be a coincidence

Thank you for your input.
Installed Beans build 8 and have it (the wakelock) but I've got it figured out and now it's not wakelocking when nothing is going on. Prior to flashing Beans rom however it was still wakelocking w/out what I think is the cause.
It's for the verizon mobile hotspot app. I timed how long I had it on and roughly was the same amount of time that the wakelock was occuring. Phone has no problems going into deep sleep as it's been in deep sleep for 9 hours on this cycle. So I'm content w/ what's happening now.

[Q] Worst battery life ever?

Ok, have had a new Galaxy Tab 10.1 for three days, and the battery is draining at a horrible rate. I left it this morning with 29% at home. Came back 12 hours later and the thing is dead. Rebooted and it confirms it's at 2%.
This can't be normal, can it? I've tried fiddling with the settings- turning off wifi, turning it on, etc... but this is just horrible.
Anyone have suggestions or settings I should flip?
yeah something wrong there. might want to check check your running apps, or if possible do a factory reset. I'm assuming you didn't root it yet. my tab does not drain at all when idle
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
It's definitely not the Tab in general. Battery life is fantastic. Mine loses not one percent when I don't use it.
Try setting the Wifi sleep policy to shut down Wifi when the screen is off. Then there are the standard procedures like turning off GPS and Bluetooth when you are not using them. Also there is a pretty comprehensive battery statistic in the settings which should help identifying battery hungry apps.
Make sure you have WiFi set to turn off when the screen is off, I think it is set to always on by default.
When the tab is asleep with all radio's off the battery should drain about 1% per hour. There are also apps available in the market that can also do some pretty detailed tracking of what is draining the battery if you continue to have problems.

[Q] What's Causing My Battery Drain?

Razr MAXX running ICS leak
I decided to let my battery run down to zero last night and let it charge while I sleep. I got to work this morning and just notice my battery is at 50%! The only change I really made yesterday was re-enabling smart actions, and setting a wifi connected trigger to turn data off. I'm thinking this may be the cause of the drain. Here are some screens.

I have no clue what "deleted_wake_locks" is. All my google results seem to point to wifi usage, and am thinking there is an issue with Smart Actions and Wifi might be the culprits.

There is an app that is not letting your wifi sleep.
Something is keeping your wifi on all the time and eating up your battery. Check out this app in the market and report back with the results, it's called "My Data Manager" and it will tell you which app or process is eating up all your wifi. Let me know what it says.

This might be helpful as well, this guy changed the DTIM interval on his router and it fixed his issue.

I've found on the stock rom, the Verizon wifi control app works well for turning wifi on and off by cellular location, ive heard tasker does this well also. Ive had no luck with smart actions. You also might want to go to settings, wireless, wifi settings, hit menu, then advanced settings, then change the sleep policy, if you have root you could also change the scan interval by editing the build.prop or using rom tool box. But do kill the wake lock, it not only keeps the wifi from sleeping, it also keeps your phone from going into its low power state

I am having a similar problem with my Razr (not MAXX). Just today i noticed the phone getting hot in my pocket. I then saw the battery was almost dead after only 4 hours unplugged and very little use. I recently rooted and flashed the clutch extreme version. I dont use wifi. I have autokilled everything useless, ive checked the running apps and nothing wierd seems to be running, in the battery usuage, after 4 hours unplugged "google services" and "android os" both had 33% of the battery use. But like i said i cant see what is draning it...any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Even im having some issue there's a process called Media which always is 92% and eats lot of battery.....so is there any way to kill this process?
If your phone is rooted my advice is to use ti backup and freeze the bloat ware the list of pre installed apps safe to freeze/uninstall can be found in the forum, when your phone reports "android os" "system" "media" its a general term that covers built in apps. The major culprit ive found is Verizon's back up apps, media is probably motocast, try mulling around in the settings and set the sync settings to as minimal as possible, also if you guys don't mind, I'm curious about this, when i first had batt life problems i ran voodoo ota and disabled root and forgot to re-enable root, with bloat and all i seemed to have better bat life, anyone want to test and see if its the same for them? Wondering if Verizon is being sneaky, and pulling carrier iq -esqe info from rooted stock

Never let your battery go down to zero. That is very bad for lithium batteries.
ok guys i found solution to media process.....Android media was trying to update it's music player and galery and since there were some media files which were too big in size and seems other files were corrupt so Media was trying to read them and thus eating up lot of clock cycles and thus draining battery. So once you identify which media file is causing the problem then media process get's minimal. About android OS process there's nothing we can do except to freeze some bloat.
Another way to disable media, though you have to do it every time you reboot, is to kill the process in running process in settings then applications. Mine does the same thing.

I was under the impression that the android os has a safety built in that keeps you from actually reaching 0, and the process of draining your phone until it shuts off, wiping battery stats in recovery, and charging too full while shut down was more to retrain the os to see 100% at a closer point to full and 0% at a lower safe point of shutdown... i know flashing roms not at 100% battery can muck up the scale, a good indicator is that your phone shuts off from low battery, you reboot and it reports a something like 20-30% battery

I would assume this is true for all android devices but at least for Razr I can assure you that it will turn off the phone before the battery gets below the critical voltage. That said it is almost always better to recharge well before it gets that low and as much as it is possible charge to full. I almost always charge over night.

sudden battery drain issue

I'm having issue with my 4g lte. Happens randomly - my phone just discharges. Last night I had it on charger for up to 85% and I woke up this morning my phone was dead. No wifi or bluetooth on. No new apps installed. I cant find a pattern why and when is doing that. Any ideas ? is there some kind of app that can record what is happening to the sys and battery so I can review later on ?
Yes install BetterBatteryStats (available for free on the devs thread). It will show you what is keeping the phone awake since that is probably the cause of your battery being drained. Install it and let it standby for a while without touching. Update the thread with the statistics BBS gives you.
Also you should try posting questions in the Q&A forum next time
thanks and sorry
which on should I post ?
other, partial wakelocks, kernel wakelock, alarms or process ?
i have that app.. i just dont know like whats bad and whats not?? my battery seems ok but i just wish i knew how to use the app..
With no wifi on you are going to drain quick if you have spotty service. You can even go to settings, battery, and then see what is using your battery.
I also have this problem somedays I will have great battery life around 20 hours and other times I get around 12 hours, today for example my phone been of charger 2 hour about ten min of screen time and battery already at 80 percent, I do have better battery stats and have never seen a wakelock or anything like that.
so i should go under partial wakelocks and what do i look for>>??? i have mad stuff under it.. what do i look for >???

I am not an expert on the app it I believe you look for anything that says wakelock, well atleast that's what I do from my understanding a wakelock means the phone was woken up by a certain app someone please correct me if I am wrong here

I have had similar issues, even went to bed before at 50% to wake up turned off from dead battery and all my data syncing stops at night based on schedules I have set.
Few things I have noticed.
I have plugged my phone in a few times, battery light turn orange like it's charging but the battery icon not move (as if is not charging) and when I went at power it says (discharging) yet when not plugged in it just says (not plugged in) and when charging it says (charging). A simple unplug and plug fixes it but odd that it randomly happens. I hope is sw bug and not something hardware on my phone.
Also once got my phone in diag mode by mistake playing with the ## menus. When that is on the battery was about 50% of what it normally is and you never know it's on unless you see the screen on reboot. Turned it back off and all was better again.
Still have the random days it drains fast though and the random times it won't charge though light is orange.
On the right days though, it is great. I can get over a day on my normal use and that is with 5 email accounts (some push exchange and some imap) and some texting and web and light browsing.
I had the same issue for a while, I finally found out what is was. It was "Sync Internet". It was constantly running. Go to Settings >> Accounts & Sync >> Your Google Account(s) and see if "Sync Internet" has the sync icon next to the checkbox. It never stopped syncing and so it was draining my battery. I unchecked it and battery is working like a champ!

Lol !
The only battery issues I've had with mine are when I disabled a ton of apps.
Sorry I posted that and then went to bed here's what you do:
Set it to detect 'since unplugged' and then let the phone idle for a nice amount of time to get good data. Then check under kernel wake locks and take a screen shot then just switch to partial ones and do the same. I'll look at them and try to help. I'm not an expert on it but it did help me back when I had a similar issue with my 3D.

[Q] Huge battery drain on use has started last week. [Kinda Solved]

Hello everyone, I'm using Motorola Atrix with Epinter CM10 4.1 ROM for last 2 months, I was very happy with battery life. Phone wasn't getting hot and with normal usage, even with 3G on (in my country only options are 2G and 3G), I could get %40 of battery end of the day. But for no reason, phone has started to get hot (only 2G on) and drains battery really quickly for last 1 week. I can't even get %5 battery left from morning to evening now. I didn't change anything, only installed Adobe Flash 11.1, then I deleted it but nothing has changed. Phone gets into deep sleep no problem with that, no background apps. I did a virus scan both on phone and from computer, both came out clean. I reinstalled rom. Nothing. I'm gonna crash my phone against wall it's really annoying. I think I'm gonna do factory wipe and reinstall rom again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Do you leave wifi switched on at all times?
I use MIUI on my Atrix (partially based on epinter's work, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong), but I have found that the phone suddenly starts staying awake for no apparent reason a while (often a couple of days) after I've left wifi switched on. This obviously causes bad battery drain. I can usually get the phone to sleep again by rebooting with wifi switched off (I think) and a battery pull is invariably required.
I now just switch on wifi when I have large files to download then turn it off straight afterwards.
Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but Better Battery Stats (which can be downloaded on xda) indicated the Rilj process was stopping the phone from sleeping when this problem occurred. It is worth trying this app to see if it gives any indication what is causing your battery drain.

No I switch between mobile data and wifi. Thank you for your suggestions and opinions but I really don't think my problem is about sleep. It started to get hot and drain when I actually use the phone. For example, I was checking Twitter for 10 min. with 3G and battery was dropping %1. Now it drops %5 with 2G on and gets really hot like 35-37 Celsius degree. I'm using Watchdog to oversee processes and nothing is working without my knowledge on background.
Hi,
I have the same problem on the nottachtrix roms since the last 2 weeks, I tried switching to epinter cm10 with no luck. Ordered a new battery to check if the battery is dead or if the atrix is faulty
if you find a fix, please post it here

install gsam battery monitor to see your phone's awake time. this drain happens to me also when i listen to music or take a photo. something with mediaserver keeps the phone awake and then only thing to do is kill mediaserver or a reboot.
Regardless of which other apps you are using to monitor app and process usage, I'd recommend trying Better Battery Stats as this is much more detailed and low-level than other apps I've encountered.
It's a free download for xda members:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Little update.
I turned back to factory settings, then did a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. I was so annoyed I even did system wipe manually from advanced options in recovery. I reinstalled Epinter CM10 rom, got my apps back thanks to Titanium Backup. Installed GSAM (thanks to saldirai), downloaded SetCpu and chose Nvidia Tegra 2 T20/AP20H, underclocked to 912 mhz. Couldn't done any undervolting sadly, says something about governor.
Now I'm checking battery stats and temperature by GSAM, so far no complaints and better from yesterday BUT I haven't use my phone heavily yet. Temperature changes between 26-31 Celsius degrees, battery drops %1-2 percent on use -also it needs calibration- with only wifi use which is always on. I'll update this post if anything changes.
Update: I think I've found the problem. When I choose The Weather Channel widget to "use my location" phone immediately starts to get warm. Weird point is, this wasn't an issue before. Apart from that I'm playing New Star Soccer and Carmageddon for 3-4 hours with wi-fi full time on and battery drops to %30. I'm really happy about that. Normal battery temperature is about 25-32 during the day and different from before it quickly gets cold after I stop playing games. Just like before.

[Q] How to max the battery life ?

Well i just got the LG G3 and am using it on GSM.
prior to using i rooted ,TWRP and loaded jasmine 4.0 , also put in skydragon kernel 2.9.4 s 3.0 had crazy boot times.
I am trying to get the max out of the phone what ive noticed is that the phone just doesn't wanna deep sleep.
I have greenify , xposed (amplify) and noticed the issue of battery being drained when idle , i went to sleep and saw it was at 50% , woke up to 10% battery, my older phones never dropped more than 2% overnight,
To investigate loaded BBS and wakelock detector , nothing that pops up out of the ordinary
So my question is what do you guys do to max the battery outta this , what can i do ? i dont really see any apps causing it to wakeup . suggestions or any would be appreciated
any other stock rom also if you could suggest for battery life ? ive heard good about cloudy 1.2 as well.
I have really gotten great battery life out of sky dragon along with the 3.0.2 SD kernel (kernel is in the orig Dev section). Along with amplify ad greenify.

Are you connected to WiFi when your phone won't deep sleep?
I work from home, so my phone spends 90% of its time on WiFi - I was getting terrible battery drain and only 50% deep sleep on a good day. One day, I left the house and noticed great battery life and plenty of deep sleep on a 4G connection (which is the opposite of what I expected).
After trying nearly everything, I discovered the fix was as a simple as turning on the "Battery Saving for WiFi" setting under Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced Wi-Fi". I've been getting great battery life and deep sleep times when I'm at home now.
Give it a shot and see if it solves your issue.
Also, ever since daylight savings time went into effect, I noticed both my phone and my wife's phone keep randomly changing time zone for no reason. Looks like the phone is struggling to automatically detect the time zone from the carrier and causing battery drain as a result. I disabled the setting to automatically detect the time zone (and manually set it for PDT) and the battery drain stopped on both of our devices. Could be unique to my area but may be something to try as well.

I thought the same as well which is why I discounted this as being a cause for 4 months....I have 15 other android devices and none have exhibited this behavior so I was surprised that such a trivial setting could have had this impact.
To answer your question, I am currently running:
- BeanTowns stock 11B ROM
- SkyDragon 2.9.7 kernel
- Xposed installed with Disabled Services running
- Selected stock apps/services disabled
I don't use greenify/amplify (don't see the need as my average daily drop is anywhere from 1.6% - 2.4%/hour with moderate use).
