Anyone into porting a mobile linux platform? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
For the past few months I've been looking into linux, I have an android device, linux 2001 Dell Latitude, etc. Now I've seen meego os. It's free, meego.com I think, anyway, is there a chance someone will port to the Xperia u,sola and go? I've read forums about it and it being dead, if it is, anyone thinking about porting sailfish os to android? Thanks.

Why would one waste time to port a dead platform mate?

Sailfish it's not dead. And NovaThor SoC are officially supported (almost snowball).
Give it a look:
http://igloocommunity.org/news/2012/11/sailfish-os-and-snowball/

So I can just install sailfish? Or is there any obstructions towards this procedure?

[Q] MeeGo Porting..??

MeeGo is a OS based on linux just the way android is.. it is going to be used in the new Nokia phones.. i guess..
https://meego.com/
though MeeGo is for the ARMv7 architecture, we could try porting it coz it is being done for some Nokia phone using ARMv6 architecture.. or maybe i have gotten it wrong.. check it out..
wiki.meego.com/ARM/N8x0
it may not be possible by us.. or maybe very tough.. but theres no harm in trying..

Yah, abandoned. There is one and only Nokia on the market to use MeeGo. They made a deal with M$ to use their junky Windows Phone. Will sink the company finally, smart move.

Meego is a dead horse, lets see how Nokia revives it. But the interesting thing will be Android getting ported to Meego Nokia phones.

ohhh ohk ohk.. got it now..
nokia is going down.. soon..
they will jus be producers of those crappy color displays with fm radio phones..
as for smartphones, androids are eating nokias and apples... so fuhget meego now..
Perhaps that would be the only way that MeeGo could survive by "Being ported to Android phones" hahaha, 'cause it seems that Nokia themselves are going to kill it even before official launch:

Is it possible to run Windows xp\7 on the SGS3?

i figured that the galaxy S III is a storng quad core device so can it run windows?
Does Microsoft support the phone? CPU, chipset, drivers? If yes then you can.

No, because windows is closed source and xp/7 even has no arm support, but you can run linux (I.e. ubuntu on it).

No madness. Even I did Google few months earlier. The answer is big no because MS Os is a closed source. If it wasn't xda developers would be the first hunter.

I wish I could experience the wp7 or wp8 in this beast. Simply for fun.those animation effects and all really eye appealing. HTC hd2 able to run both. But it's a wp phone. Hope someday someone brings a port!! Though hopes not much up!!

Ubuntu rom?

Is there any that we'll see Ubuntu custom roms? Or will i have to buy an Ubuntu Phone in order to experience it?
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2
Chances are quite high that we will. Also IIRC Ubuntu said that they will be making their OS compatible with many popular Android devices, so an official Ubuntu ROM can be flashed instead of an Android ROM.

It's possible to see an Ubuntu ROM.
Also they said that they will release an Emulator & SDK for Ubuntu Phone Development until next week, so there is a big chance to see an official ROM released soon....

Sounds Awesome! A smart move by them would be to somehow make android apps compatible with it cuz it will take them a looooong time to get to the amount of apps android already has (if it ever will)...

Im pretty sure you can get android apps to work in ubuntu if you use multiarch.
Ubuntu OS is meant to run on Android (multi-core devices) only I believe. So if you meet this requirement you will get this They also mentioned that other flavors of linux will be released. (Not supported by Ubuntu however)

If you are satisfied with running Ubuntu in parallel with Android, you can always make an Ubuntu ROM yourself, following my HOWTO in my signature.
Good assumption

i think it will need a couple of weeks untill ubuntu "custom roms" will be portet to non nexus devices, because teh only devices that r officially supportet by ubuntu phone are the nexus 4 and the galaxy nexus.
You should know that Ubuntu Phone needs high resources to run on any devices.
There r few Devs at the moment that know how to port this on any device, and most of this r the devs of Ubuntu itself.
I would not name Ubuntu Phone a custom rom because it's not based on Android => it's a mobile OS based on linux but not on android
The first UbuntuPhones will be selled much later there are no at the moment

What's the actual point of having another linux distribution on your phone? Shouldn't it be the same (I'm not talking about few additional features that might be somewhat useful)?

Is like why some ppl prefer Linux Mint or Ubuntu or even Debian if all come from the same way? It's just matter of tastes.
What do I need to do to boot this bad boy on my jewel?
(Will you be copying all the questions and answers and adding them to the first post? )
Will dev devices be available? Will steam be officially supported for mobile?
What I'm curious about is will this support ext3/ext4 filesystems? Support for links?
Also, will there be a repo? Ability to install the gcc toolchain?
I'm curious on how unlock security. Like having a password to unlock or something like that. What would it look like on this OS? Another question I have is what are the keyboard's features?

no you can not install ubuntu on htc desire
the minimum requirements are
1ghz dual core cpu
1gb ram
wvga screen
Can we install it which devices we want, like Ubuntu for PC? Or must developers customize it for all devices like Android?
What is Ubuntu for Phones' minimum system requirements?
And there will be a new release every 6 months like Ubuntu for PC?

Will it support (in the future) the Android app ecosystem?
I really hope so because people like me already purchased a lot of app and I need them (and won't buy them again).
What do you think?
Is this Q&A just aimed at the community or will it have some "official" answers ? If so what mobile networks will be used in the UK on release ?
Dual booting a possibility on the Nexus ?
Secure market for purchasing apps /devices?
Apart from the Nexus , What other devices are you hoping to introduce this year for us to play with ?
How easy/hard will it be to port ROMS to another other device ?
What will you offer us ( apart from a new OS to play with) that's going to steal market share from Android ?
What plans do you have for future updates to the OS ,will it become as fragmented as Android ? Will you push carriers to update ROMs or will it be down to XDA to do this
Will you make it easy for us to do our thing or will you lock the devices down (not that it will stop XDA lol)
If any of you are interested in getting Canonicals attention for us, the XDA Family being able to beta for them, here is a petition I started at change.org! It won't hurt to sign it guys, might as well try!

I have a phone with WP7 (Lumia 710),and imo,WP7 sucks. I don't know how WP 8 it is,but definitely Android (even 2.1 or 2.3) is many years ahead WP7.
I think it's possible, but windows 8 RT would be waaaaaaaay nicer (it also runs on HTC HD2), and it already has an official version for ARM processors.

Hello Mr face, hello Mr palm, how do you do.
Ok hd2 was a Windows phone that had android ported to it, because android is open source, anyone can modify the code.
Windows is a propriety closed software, only ms drones can access source.
Now if you can find a Windows phone that contains exactly the same hardware components then you may stand a chance, but there isn't, thats why you turn your back to the wind when you pee.
