[Q] [Q.S3-i9300] Stock 4.1.2 Keyboard on a custom ROM? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I recently installed a custom ROM on my Galaxy S3 (i9300), Vanilla Rootbox (based on Android 4.2) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898798
I was wondering if there is any possible way I could install a different keyboard; my options are:
1. (preferred) the Stock Samsung Keyboard (4.1.2) with the dark theme from the FoxHound ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708371&highlight=foxhound)
2. the Stock Samsung Keyboard (4.1.2)
Thank you in advance.

My opinion is that Swiftkey is king of keyboards!

Samsung apps work only in samsung-based roms, unless it's been ported.
search and find out if it is.

I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484995
however i am struggling to find out whether the ROM i am using (Vanilla Rootbox http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898798) is a deodexed or odexed ROM because it doesn't specify anywhere on the thread. if anyone knows the answer and would like to share it with me, i would appreciate it a lot. many thanks.

i think stock keyboard is best choice:victory:

For future reference, if you go to /system/apps if it's odexed you will see the corresponding .odex after each .apk

[Q] Stock ROM & Themes

Hi,
Lots of themes available for different custom ROM's, but do any of them work with Stock ROM???
Thanks
Phil
There aren't a lot of themes for odexed (stock) ROMs.
The S-Mod is one, and there's a Honeycomb one as well in the same forum.
You do have to at least flash another Samsung firmware to run the S-Mod (XXKI4)
---------- Post added at 05:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:32 PM ----------
Should have added: you must be rooted.
Also, the Jkay mod on its own adds great functionality + some theming. Also must be rooted and have a compatible firmware.
Thanks...I already have KI4, just need to sort out CWM

I wanna change to custom ROM but....

I wanna grab some custom ROM but few things still haunt me and not even solution are there for my problem.. (maybe I didn't found it) ;
i) stock rom has the ability to change to (GSM / WCDMA / Auto mode ) in mobile network setting mode, but non of the custom ROM has this feature which hard for me to change the network when i'm in low coverage area, only change to 2g only, what if i wanna stay of HSDPA only..
ii) Non of stock rom have the 3x4 keyboard while typing ,most of them qwerty
iii) It's hard to find any launcher with ability to create folders in DRAWER, afaik , only go launcher, TW launcher and LG launcher can do that.
I hope experts could find these solution.
I think you better just root your phone. Install siyah via Odin and enjoy. Second way is to find a ROM that contains minimal customization compared to stock.

[Q] KitKat 4.4 suggestions

Hello, I now have a SGS2 9100P with 4.1.2 stock ROM rooted with PhilZ CWM based recovery.
I would like to upgrade it to KitKat 4.4 and I found out 3 candidates:
CM11
SlimSaber
OmniRom
I don't want any special feature, I would only like to have the plain Android with GApps and a good CPU/battery performance, but I need all the HW feature active (such as front camera, NFC, tethering...).
I would also like to be sure I can get back to current ROM just restoring my current Nandroid backup.
Which one would you suggest and why?
Any other candidate?
Thank you very much!
[EDIT]
Important: this is not about what's the best ROM, I'm only asking which one of those will allow me what I asked.

Hey...i'm from SlimSaber thread...
So....my suggestion and why.
Kitkat is immature as of now....afaik...and yes...I did test Slimkat Sabered ....but...if yoj don't need features.....you could go for it with couple of common #blame Samsung issues and such....I really don't know about NFC or any workaround to get it working...or if it works....so....the best I can suggest is....close this thread and go for a reading trip over the threads and look at responses by users....you don't even need to ask anything....a lot is going on and peeps keep posting this n' that....just read man....and you'll become enlightened man:good:
Beam-ed through your pineal gland via//Android 4.3.1//
Thanks for your answer, but keeping pace with those three threads is impossible by a human beeing!
I thought those few questions were quick ones for ones who knows the three ROMs listed.
If they three all can be completely reverted with a nandroid restore, I could test them all.

Hi,
I'm also from slim.
In order to resume a little bit, with slim or any aosp based rom:
-Mali drivers, are not from original Samsung source,
-fm radio is absent but you can use an App called spirit FM to have a workaround.
-HDMI output trough micro USB is not available, due to, again lack of drivers from Samsung.
NFC, is not in the slim rom (i don't know other roms), but there is a patch that you can flash (Google xda i9100 NFC) and with slim rom for i9100 + NFC patch, NFC will work, afaik.
Slimkat is still in beta phase, that is to say, most of the great slim enhancements are not still ported due to slim team is working to recode in order to have a real slimkat code rather than adding just the enhancements. That is what makes slim different from others.
Finally, nandroid. you come from stock rom, with philz recovery and you make nandroid.
To flash slimkat, (I don't know other roms) first you must flash a kitkat compatible recovery, and then reboot in recovery to flash slimkat.
IN order to go back from slimkat, from slimkat recovery you should flash first Philz kernel/recovery flashed and used to make nandroid, reboot to recovery and then restore nandroid.

I know telling you try them all is not helping. But that's actually true.
Personally I love SlimSaberKat of @fusionjack.
Anything HW goes smoothly...
NFC is an /p feature so I don't think is implemented in slimkat. I think if you look around you can find how to add it.
Nandroid works
however please note that 4.4 is very different and some apps MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED YET. They will need to be upgraded to new infrastructure but depends on app's developer, not the ROM.
Back to kill button doesn't work... That's all. If you use nav bar you can use that back button and works just fine. I have a task manager and does great job.
Be careful that you have to install first the KitKat recovery then reboot in it and from that install the ROM.
Personally, I like slimkat for DPI, features, smoothness, ART working great, helpful devs, etc...
I suggest (and it will take just a couple of hours) flash first slimkat then any other ROM... You'll return to it finally.
However, note that any KK is still work in progress so don't expect that you flash one last version and you're set for life.

Also, if you use Banks' Core Gapps you don't get the crappy Google experience launcher with it and get to choose for yourself which google apps you want. They also survive OTAs. No need to reflash them every time.
Mod Edit
"Best" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.

sorry. I don't understand what you say exactly.
stock rom means samsung latest 4.4.2 kitkat rom released in your country.
GT-N7105's files depends on their country, carrier.
though GT-N7105 rom name is same, a few files different.
anyway your phone is i9505 gallaxy s4?
thanks

Yes, it is an i9505 galaxy s4, i bought it with android V.5.0.1 and that was an upgrade from KK 4.4.x i think...
I live in Sweden and has Telia as my carrier, but i do not know if it is an international version or an Nordic version.
Hi I think thats international version. You better ask galaxy s4 form. Nice day.

Hi Dev,
Thank you for cooking us a new ROM to check out and hopefully enjoy.
I have an N7105 and I'm interested in testing this ROM. Is this the correct order of installation:
1. Install ROM
2. Install N7105 Addon
3. Install Modem + CSC from my service provider.
For example for me; I will Install the Telstra Modem + CSC files available in the Modem Thread here in this subsection.
4. Install latest AGni (Stock) Kernal.
I will most likely wait until the ROM is finished... For example like you suggested. Removing S-Finder and QConnect, that would be great.
Or if you can please make an AROMA Setup where we can choose for example:
- The Addons for which device we're using.
- 240 DPI or 320 DPI (this would be a great edition, but you have to fix phone, calculator, and a lot of samsung stock apps to 320dpi). Maybe make a note that says 240 DPI mode comes installed with Xposed Framework and App Settings to fix all necessary applications.
- Clean Dark Themed Framework + System UI (Black, White, Grey, and Red) vs Samsung Framework & System UI.
- No Mods vs Project Skynet Mod installed + terminal emulator

Of course you don't have to do any of this, but just a few requests
Thank you again for your hard work. I and I'm sure many others, truly appreciate devs (such as yourself, and others) who are keeping this device alive for us.

sincerely thank you for the Qualitative feedback
your install process is useful for N7105 users.
If you use your csc, only problem is airmessage(circle instant message).
we append some feature text to use airmessage in csc(others.xml or feature.xml)
I will add this text in OP
4.4.4 based rom has some problems.
bluetooth/video call/volte etc.
so I used 4.4.2 kitkat. I am very curious about N7105 video call
Is it work?
I will consider your comments
yes. It will takes a lot of time to make 240dpi mod.
later, If I have some time, I will try.
more system ui will be added in this week.(aroma..OK I accept)
have a nice day. good mate
