New Phone ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am buying a phone. Should I wait for galaxy s4 ? It's releasing on March 15 ? or should i go for HTC ONE X + ? or are there any other suggestions

SIII or SIII 4G are really fantastic I am very happy with it
not sure SIV for march

This

I would wait for an S4 and either choose that or an S3 at reduced price.

Nope wait for S5 .
jje

Why wait? There will always be a better phone. Learn to settle with the one that pleases you.

The S2 is still being supported by Samsung and developers now, and in terms of Android its old... Just get the S3, its a great phone, you can't go wrong.

If you can wait for S4 and if you want to buy right now then go for Note 2. It's great device.

S3 is mine, i'm very happy ! It's very good phone you know...

It would be stupid buying a gs3 now knowing that the gs4 is only a few months away. Not to mention all the other new phones coming out at mwc. Wait until then and compare it with all the other 1080p phones before deciding.

Upgrade to note, worth it?

I love my s2 but... I have an option to buy a galaxy note by adding about 50$
Need advice, should I stick to my i9100 or should I go for the note?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Answer is simple, if you can bear that monstrous size, yes.
If not, you know.
Swyping from my GT-I9100 via Tt
Note is just like a bigger SGS2 with lesser Development
Not worth it as SGS3 is around the corner
For me it's also a way to keep the value of my SmartPhone high
When s3 will be out the s2 price will fall hard, the note on the other hand won't drop that hard I think

I'd like to think the same thing too, but if that's your main driver for swapping phones then I'd be against it. I don't think the Note is going to keep its value either because the market for a 5 inch "phone" is very small. I recall the Dell Streak on eBay very well, and just because they're advertising it during the SuperBowl doesn't mean it will guarantee people are going to buy.
Either way you're going to suffer some devaluation especially once the S3 and iPhone 5 are released. I personally couldn't fathom using a Galaxy Note. WIth that in mind keep whichever device you think would suit you better for you in the meantime.
Believe me..you're gonna regret it...SGS II got it all......

To be honest I would love the galaxy note over the galaxy s2, that screen size just looks fantastic But I am already saving up for the galaxy s3 (hopefully will have enough in about June, I like to wait a couple of months after release to make sure the phone is the the best and it has no mayor bugs, reason I got the s2 over the sensation as after a couple of months it was clear the sensation has a crappy dual core arm cortex-A8 cpu and a buggy touch screen + the locked boot loader was the main turn off) As long as the s3 has a bigger screen than the s2, I'll be very happy
I would suggest that the s2 would properly be better for most people, but if you can you should wait for the s3
You will look like an absolute fool and normal people will laugh at you.

Well I'm selling my Galaxy S2 and will buy a Galaxy note. The S2 is the best smartphone I've ever owned by lightyears, but the s3 is around the corner so it will soon lose its number 1 smartphone status. By getting the note now I get to try something new, something that will have more resell value when the S3 comes out vs the S2. So you should go for it buddy!
Only if you have big pockets.

my main drive is that it'll only cost me about 50$ to change it (selling s2 + 50$ = NOTE)

I'm going to go for a Note myself from my current S2, gonna sell my wifes Nexus S and give her my S2.. I like the Note for it's awesome screen and the S-Pen.. It doesnt suit everyone, but for me it's the perfect combination of a tablet and a phone. The screen is hands down one of the best in a cell phone today.

Worth getting S3 now ?

Hi! I was thinking of getting a Galaxy S3 (coming from Galaxy Nexus) and I was wondering whether it was worth getting now, as I read that an S4 was going to be released at the begining of next year (Febuary). As I am trying to decide between the N4 and S3, if a new Galaxy S4 is coming soon, I would rather get an N4 so I'm curious whether its going to be released soon or not. I know know one knows what's going to be released other than Samsung but if anyone has any opinions it would be of great help. Also, just another question, is it harder to build roms for the S3 than the Nexus ?
Thanks
I would wait if i were you, the price of the Galaxy S3 has held pretty solid given its such a good phone, I'll probably get the Galaxy S4 when it comes out assuming it's a major upgrade (it has to be worth it) to I'd get a Nexus 7 4 myself but Only if they release a new 32GB version and price dependant too, but the GS3 is still an amazing phone

I went ahead and got a N4 Thanks for the reply

Which phone to buy now ??

Hi everyone... i am a student and currently own a Samsung galaxy s2 for last 10 months...
Last week i got my screen cracked but everything is working fine...
I was thinking if it would be a good idea to sell this and buy a new phone instead of spending 6500 inr for screen...
If yes then which one...

i would buy a s2 again.
im very interested in smartphones and always buy the newest and best phones. but when i buyed my s2 a long time ago, i was so happy with it,
the cam is very very good, the speed is awesome and its not to big like s3 or the notes. as u can see its still supported even from samsung with new jelly bean upgrade. i dont know much phones which get 2 android upgrades (from gb to ics, from ics to jb) except the google phones and the s2 is still supported by good devs. so why not buy a s2?

I would agree in some point. Yeah it is got a very good graphics card and all. But you might wanna go a little more future proof with the 2GB RAM option. Not that you need/use it all but its worth having for the future. Im always going with the Note series now but the Nexis 4 is a pretty solid buy

Will you upgrade from your Galaxy S III ? Vote!

Are you guys getting the Galaxy S IV or you're keeping the S III ?
I think I'll upgrade to S4. Not a fan of HTC one M7 and Xperia Z is definitely eclipsed by S4.

Where's the "Hell no, I'm buying something that isn't made by Samdung" option?
I'd pick that, since I got burned by defective SII and SIII eMMC. It wouldn't surprise me one iota if SDS crops up in the S4 also. Lesson learned.
Skipping S IV. There is nothing it will offer that is worth an upgrade so soon after S III.
I'll keep it for awhile. The best phone ever and it will be strong for years.

I think we should wait for another 6 month. Just to make sure there's no sds issue on s4. Lol. Nway, my s3 is nearly reach 6 month mark and still no problem. Guess I'll get it the same time I got my s3.

keeping the nexus 4 for klp.
The battery life is horrendus on the nexus 4. Drains so quick its not even funny.. lol
With exynos 5 and 2600 mah. Battery life should be around the note 2. Note 2 battery life was awesome.
waiting for another release of S Series,
maybe S 5
but if this concept becomes true, i will buy it as soon as possible.
Only thing that interests me is using it with gloves because could help a lot at work, But I've been sticking the tips from some of those cheap capacitive gloves onto my work gloves and works fine, and apart from that I see no reason to give up my S3.
No not that much difference it isnt just bout specs
S3 will have all s4 features soon they look alike.. and 1 thing i wont forget by samsung is the sources

I'm actually liking the S IV more and more when i read about it and watch vids.
I really like the software improvements in the SIV, those features will be released to SIII with a software update, maybe. :fingers-crossed:
I will keep the SIII for a year maybe...The SIII is still a beast, maybe the next Galaxy

Pffft........I'm waiting for the S6.....even better
Nope,my S3 is still around 4-5 months old and this year if I upgrade again it will be Xperia Z not S4 & I don't see a point upgrading S3 this much sooner either. It performs more than enough for now,for at least around another year & half S3 should be a beast. There is nothing in S4 that wow'ed me like S3 or Xperia Z did when those were announced.I don't need floating touch or online translator app(for that we already have google) + we will get most of new features in S3 after some time via upgrade hopefully
And I don't need a 8 core processor in my phone, hell 4 core i5 760 is even more than enough for my gaming rig.
I usually upgrade every year, but here's why it's a no from me this time around...
(AnTuTu scores)
Galaxy S1 (~3000)
Galaxy S2 (~6000) (200% increase from S1)
Galaxy S3 (~16000) (267% increase from S2)
Galaxy S4 (~21000) (130% increase from S3)
So unless you want it for DC-HSPA+ / LTE (which I'm not going to see any time soon), it's probably not worth it.

[Q] End of Galaxy user? Should i get Nexus 4?

I had iPhone 3G as my first phone, following by 4s then i switched to Galaxy s3 in April 2013. I've learned a lot, i've flashed many custom roms, kernel etc.
After seeing Samsung delaying updates and transporting regional lock along with kitkat update are the reason that i come to decision that i will sell my galaxy s3 for Nexus 4 (cant afford n5 yet).
I need your help guys
How good is the battery on nexus 4 compared to galaxy s3?
Idc about storage
This is a q&a thread, so it also belongs there. But to answer your question. Comparing stock of both devices, the s3 definitely wins. Samsung is good at creating a good battery life, even with touchwiz
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You endured once in a blue moon updates in iOS, but you can't in android, which there is an update almost every week?
Sent from my GT-I9300
S3 wins hands down. Tho I would recommend getting sony because don't delay the update
I disagree.
Bells and whistles like smart stay that doesn't even work properly after the jellybean update or a maybe slightly better camera (though I don't find much difference) doesn't outweight not having proper multitask. Also, neither touchwiz nor aosp have the nexus smoothness. Even my dad's former galaxy nexus feels slightly better than my s3.
If you can live with not having an sdcard or a removable battery, I'd say the n4 provides a better user experience (did try it for about a month). The only reason I'm not getting the n4 is because I'm waiting out the n5.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
This thread would be best off in the Nexus 4 section, most users who browse the S3 forums still have and use the S3.

This is a joke, right? S3 is in overall better then the nexus 4. S3 will get 4.4. Regional lock can be removed. Also SD-Card and removable battery is essential for a phone in my opinion. (Plus, the N4 is an Lg device ) So if you don't plan to go from S3 to N5, stick to the S3!
well i am curious how long samaung/other custom devs will continue support galaxy s3 in 2014
cuz S4 still havent recieved 4.3 and 4.4 is already rolling out for Sony flagship device soon, which means this is my last samsung device >.<
And isn't mali 400mp old tho?
i will buy N5 in April then
thanks for the replies

Duuuuude....4.4 has not even rolled out to Nexus devices. Hell, it hasn't even been announced. No way can it roll out for Sony devices any time soon.
Sorry i worded that incorrectly but i hope you see my point; Im disappointed with samsung updates. I should have went for n3 in the first place, i'd have saved £40 anyways.
How the hell are you disappointed with Samsung updates?!?! They are right behind Google when it comes to updates. LG and HTC suck at updates.

I'll have to disagree with the HTC part. My HTC one just got 4.3. I own a note 2 and an s3 and both are still stuck on 4.1. HTC seems to be improving their update speed.

Except if your aiming to the n4 for its price. I seriously doubt the n5 will have the same price the n4 has. The n4 is, at this time, the best bang for the buck around. And I suspect it will continue to be for a good while.
