[Q] Swap Partition and SD card class[SOLVED] - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

My phone is Xperia X10 Mini Pro
I was testing MiniCM10 with swap partition (256mb) and SDcard 8gb class4, and is real smooth and fast, but a little problem is the multitask.
My question is:
Changing my SDCard to a 16GB Class 10, will i get a best perfomance on multitask? Anyone tested?
I was reading and some forums say that X10 Mini pro have a read speed limit for SD is true?
Sorry for my bad english.

Well, I use an 8gb class ten sdcard with a 256 MB ext4 partition. When I run a tool like sdtools or antutu benchmark, it shows me max write speed 11.4 MB/s and up to 19.2 MB/s read speed, so I don't think there is a limitation (with my old 2gb class four, I used the same tools and I had 3,5 MB/s write speed and 8,3 MB/s read speed)
Please press thanks if I helped .

Swapinness 50
Enable KMS
Ext4 512MB
Min: 245Mhz

[Q]

Hello everybody,
So the thing is I want to buy another sdhc for the Streak (8/16 gb) but I want to know which class to buy. With sdtools I have an average of the the following ratings with a Sandisk 16gb class 2:
Writing speed: between 5.3 / 6.4 mb/s
reading speed: 12.3 / 17.2 mb/s
1. Does a class 6 or 10 will increase the overall speed? (I know 6/10 = minimum speed)
2. Are micro sd's from brands like Adata or Transcend also reliable in class 6/10?
3. Does the streak support class 10 and is it necessary or will be a class 6 enough?
Thanks!
Ruben
For my internal memory I'm using a Patriot LX 4gb class 10 and for my external memory the best card I have found is the adata class 10 16gb...
Those are the ones that IIIIIIIII use.... but others may recommend otherwise
Some benchnarks have shown that burst read write speeds on lower class cards are higher while the class 10 cards are better only for sustained reading and writing... such as restoring a nandroid and creating a nandroid...
I still use the class 10s
Awesome, thanks! Can you maybe post your reading / writing speed with the external card in the device (sdtools or another app).
I've read that Sandisk class 4 cards perform better at random access speed but I'm also really curious if a higher class card will go over 13/15 mb writing speed, because with a class 4 sandisk (4gb) I did get a constant rating around w9/r20 mb/s

Don't know how much will it cost.
Priority is card speed. Higher class is faster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
dont know the cost...my advice go for sandisk HC mem card class6 or a class 10...ur phone performance vl increase gradually ..
iam using a class 6 16gb my xpm is pretty faster than before.

Phone performance isn't affected by SDcard.
The only difference you can see is when you read/write files from SD, nothing more.
Web browsing doesn't get faster with higher class SDcard. Calling doesn't get better with higher class SDcard.
And Class 4 is enough for Android, I've never had problems with it and the speed is enough for me.

If you want to copy about 4 GB of data to SD from PC with class4 card and then copy same file/s to class10 card the time is a lot shorter with class10!
This is why many people use higher card class.
And when you want to have system in externel memory* this require minimum class6 card to avoid lags.
* e.g. HTC HD2
my Sdcard is 16GB class 10 (sillicon power) and write speed is 8 - 9 MB/s and read speed is 16 - 17 MB/s , this is very nice SDcard

I agree with u...but music player and video playback performance increases...and also after a reboot when u have apps installed in the sd it loads faster in the app drawer.

[Q] Micro SD cards

Hi guys
I'm looking to buy a Micro sd card, samsung 32GB, class 10
So my questions are:
1- If someone already using sd card just like this one, tell me is it working fine with your android device?
2- Do you think that patriot or some other manufacturer cards are better then samsung?
3- Does your phone in some cases really feals faster with an sd card with bigger class number ( does reading speed of your card effect phone's speed? )
4- I heard that class 6 ( 6 MBps ) is more than enough for android devices, and also that some class 10 cards slow down a device, is it true?
5- Will i ever have enough memory on my phone
I know that there are the same threads on forum somewhere, but i need answers quickly and thats why im opening this one..

1. It works fine.
2. It just user preference. Their both great.
3. Reading and writing to the SD card will be faster. It won't affect phone speed unless your device is using certain mods such as swaps, int.ext. sd swaps, etc. or you have apps on your SD card.
4. While class 6 may be quite fast for a device, there is no way a class 10 could be slower.
5. That's up to you .
tnx Theonew
if i understood it well, an app called swapper 2 can allow device to use some memory from partitioned sd card like a ram memory and provide it a slightly better multitasking, and speed.. ?
And i have read that it can also affect an sd card's life..
So, is it worth it?

Yes, swapping can degrade the life of the SD card but it is worth it if your device is a low-end one (and slow). It will assist in stuff like gaming, etc.
No, I really don't think its worth it. It really affects the cards life and does not really add much ram, even for slow phones...

An additional 256mb is quite a lot compared to 192mb (total).
Quick benchmark of Samsung SD card class 10 in the ASUS Transformer TF101.
Code:
[email protected]:/home/kuisma# hdparm -t /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
/dev/block/mmcblk1p2:
Timing buffered disk reads: 60 MB in 3.09 seconds = 19.43 MB/sec
Reference, the internal nand flash (/data partition):
Code:
[email protected]:/home/kuisma# hdparm -t /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7:
Timing buffered disk reads: 52 MB in 3.10 seconds = 16.79 MB/sec
If comparing read vs write, large blocks vs small, sequential vs random etc, the SD Cards wins a few times, the internal flash a few. It's more or less a draw. I would say this SD card got "good enough" performance, although far from SSD performance.
good enough for smartphone
are you talking about solid state disk?

[Q] [App] SD-Booster

I'm using a 32 GB Class 10 SanDisk's microSD, and I knew that SD accelerator apps improve SD/Phone performance, but also I read about risks about use that apps. Is it true that are risk on SD card?
The only thing I can imagine is that they increase write access so that it dies faster.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda premium
if your experiencing slow sd card write/read speeds then you can try but i have read in other forums it decreases the life of memory card i use a class 6 8gb and my experience is just great :victory:

why would you need a sd-booster for a class10 mem. card?? there is no need, I got class 6 & performance is more than fine & if you use some booster, its goona decrease card's life..

SD card - are R/W speeds really so bad?

Hi,
I'm considering a purchase or Xperia X, but in one review (notebookcheck.net) they found very poor read/write speeds of external microSD card (only 17MB/s read and 13MB/s write - both are sequential). Have you tested it and are the speeds really so horrible? Thx.
it depends on the quality of your actual SD card being used. Currently using the Samsung Evo+ 64GB SD and I get over 50MB/s speed.
Thank you for your reaction. 50MB/s in Xperia X sounds promising . In the review (notebookcheck.net) they used Toshiba Exceria Pro M401 (very good SD card - R90/W80). Maybe compatibility problem between Xperia X and Toshiba Exceria. And your 50MB/s is read or write, or both?

With the same SD I get 30 mb/S read and 20 write. Empty and freshly formatted

Thank you, Invicta. Your speeds are not spectacular, but I think they are sufficient.
write speeds are ok, read on the other hand is on the low side i think.
So finally I bought Xperia X and here is my experience: Sandisk Extreme 64 GB - R/W 30/30 MB/s. Speed is not the best but sufficient for me. I also tested Samsung Evo+ 32 GB, speed is lower than Sandisk. (27R/20W).

I get ~50MB/s read and ~30MB/s write. Don't know if it is in the variable range of the product but 20MB/s difference over 50MB/s is alot
