Coming to the Droid DNA!!! - HTC Droid DNA

Well, after a long debate with myself, and many comparisons I've decided to take the plunge back into the HTC world.. I chose the DNA instead of waiting for the M7/One or whatever it is because I just can't use this iPhone 4 anymore... I hope I made the right choice, and thanks to Wirefly.com I was able to get a SWEET deal.. I see Justin is dev'ing for the DNA and that's a plus for me for sure!!!!!!

You're gonna love his Viper ROM.

I am salivating... I loved it on my Incredible 2.. just felt it was time to part ways with HTC at the time.. But the DNA brought me back!! And after I saw Justin in the Dev section.. Oh man!

Believe me u made a good choice plus not sure if vzw will see the m7. Viper Rom is beast u will definitely love it.

I think you've made a good choice. I personally like the DNA better than the M7 in terms of overall design and aesthetics. Plus I like my 5" screen - a 4.7" just feels small to me now. The only reason I would've been upset would be if the M7 had the newer series of Qualcomm's processors, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, congrats on the DNA!

I'm a long time iPhone/ipad user and Android user.
If you have any questions about stuff you're wondering about with the switch to the DNA feel free to send me a PM. I realize you probably know your way around quite well but just in case, I figured I would offer.
One thing that I help people with the most, is actually contacts. If you don't already have all your contacts in a gmail account, go ahead and import them to gmail from wherever they are.
Welcome to the DNA, you won't regret the swap. Even though my girlfriend knows her way around roms and rooting, kernels, and decompiling apk's, her daily driver is an iPhone. I was worried about switching her to the Bolt or Rezound as her daily driver because I didn't want to leave a bad first impression. The DNA is the opposite, as soon as info on the M7 is released she will be switched to the DNA or M7 if its available in a CDMA version, because the build quality and performance are to the highest standards.

Just got my DNA this weekend and finally found the time to root and s off. Its absolutely amazing coming from a rezound. You'll be happy. FYI if you don't already know don't accept the ota or you won't be able to root yet.

Should I get a new phone?

Development has pretty much come to a stop. There is no AOSP, sense 4.0 still isnt flawless and other phones are getting further and further ahead.
Jelly Bean and iOS6 are coming out and maybe i should get a new phone.
I have always been a huge android fan despite having a macbook and ipad and I dont think i should get an iphone, right?
Should I get a gnex? Galaxy SIII? What do you guys think?
Thanks!
Get a GNex. My GS3 and Rezound are going on Craigslist and I'm getting one too. Stupid f*cking locked bootloader on the GS3.

Do you think google is gonna release a new nexus soon? Should I wait?
I'd like to think they will release one end of this year or early next year... I'll definitely be buying the next one even if it is isn't flagship material.
Is the rezound pretty much dead? I've tried everything possible and I just cant get a smooth, fast feeling. Any ROM suggestions?
I'm going to wait and see what this "Eris" I've heard so much about does with the Rezound before deciding whether to stay aboard or jump ship. If he does something great and the source happens to come out soon enough, I'm definitely staying. If something happens and the source doesn't come out or his progress hits a huge snag where he quits, I'm probably going to pack my bags and look into going back to Sprint.
Their service really does suck in my area, but at least their price was a lot better. If I do jump ship and get an Evo 4G LTE, I would be interested in it if only to run FreshROM again, just like on my OG Evo. Plus, I sort of miss the small things about the Evo family, like CWM, FreshROM, etc. I know Sprint is finally switching to LTE, and if I had to go back, I would be willing to tough it out with bad signal just a while longer, since it looks like Sprint is actually serious about LTE over WiMAX this time.

Do you think the nex is better than the rezound? Yeah its awesome that theyre getting jellybean really soon, but i really like sense and there hardware is pretty much the same
i think any high end android phone is better than the iphone, right?
I've really been considering moving to the nexus since I'm not eligible for my upgrade yet and I can get a used one pretty cheap but I'm still undecided.
The rezound was my first HTC phone and I really love how well built it is compared to Samsung phones but I've had so many problems with it. Plus, with Verizon taking so long to push out updates and practically killing development, it makes the nexus slightly more enticing.
What do you guys think? Should I stick it out with this phone a little bit longer and just hope that the development gets a little better again soon or is it best to just move on now?
Can we at least wait until the end of the month before everyone flips their stuff? We're supposed to get ICS officially this month, and shortly after that HTC should release the ICS kernel source on the HTCDev website. All we need is our fantastic developers to get the RIL working and we'll hopefully be swimming in CM#/AOKP by the end of the year.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now

Its looking like ill most likely be getting it. I'm thinking ill be getting the DNA and one other new gen phone probably a GSM phone since I have two contracts, one with ATT and one with Verizon.
But I will be more careful than usual with this purchase. I'm currently so broke I can't afford the down payment on a grilled cheese sandwich. But this phone is a priority, and I owe it to the BAMF community. So I've been saving my pennies and will be selling some stuff to raise some funds.

samsungs radios and signal are 10x worse.
in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh

The screen is what keeps me from upgrading.
What more can be done that already hasn't been done? It's not dead just hit a stopping point for what can be done. The rezound has a vast library of great roms to run. We all have seen this with countless phones in the past Luke the dinc, original droid and so on. It's not the phone is useless just people likes to have the latest and greatest that's out there. I came from the bolt and to compare the development of the bolt to the rezound and it blows the bolt away.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I see it slowing down, but not dying. All of Android development is dying off until the release of KLP though.
I'm thinking you're going to see this more and more as devs are more likely to want the newest phones. The Eris had good development for the full two years I had it but, from what I could tell, it was pretty easy to get stuff running on it. New phones seem to be a little more difficult and eventually, development hits a wall. I'm hoping things pick up again in May after KLP is released.
Sometimes you have to be smarter than your smartphone.
It's now called the RIPzound. J/k! Not dead, just slower which is normal.
Still here I have the one pre ordered though, but I'll be keeping my Rezound as a wifi only device. Or maybe my music only always in the car device
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I'll still be around for a good while, though I've been inactive on the Rezound portion of XDA. I'll probably learn some necromancy and do themes if things do get too slow. It's been relatively good development, a few hiccups but fared well all in all imho. I expect it to rock some KLP someday, too good a device not to.

I'll be here for a while as well. The only way I would leave is if I came up on some good money to upgrade and there was something worth upgrading to. The s800 wipes the floor with the the s4 pro, though. The Note 3 is incredibly intriguing, albeit too big for me.
I really like my DNA. I am personally not a big fan of AMOLED. I have heard they have gotten better, but the GNex kind of ruined it for me.
On another note, it's pretty bad ass that the DNA will receive 4.3 before the Verizon GNex (that is if the Verizon GNex ever gets 4.3).

While the transparent screen is an interesting thing to see it never made any sense to me as a new technology to focus on as it just reduces the quality of the screen image. The note 3 is the most powerful so far but honestly will anyone notice the speed difference now considering how powerful both phones are?

Post DNA Plans?

If you're like me, you're ready for a new phone every year around this time. I was hoping to see a DNA2/Butterfly2 from HTC, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. Alternatives are few unless you want to go Max-sized with the HTC One Max, but at 6", that's just too darn big. I thought the Note series was too big, but the Max has even topped that.
Anyway, for those of you looking to move past the DNA (don't get me wrong - it is still a GREAT phone, especially running Viper 2.0!), what are you thinking?
Maxing out with the One Max? :cyclops:
Settling for Samsung?
Trying to Live Good with LG G2?
Or just holding out until something better comes along?
I voted for the One max in the poll above, but honestly I might be turned away by the huge size. I already have trouble typing one-handed on my DNA sometimes, but the expandable memory and huge battery would be a nice upgrade for sure.
If the size puts me off, I'll probably just wait for whatever follows up the HTC One. I'm grandfathered into unlimited data anyway, so I'll likely be buying whatever my next phone will be either at full retail or from eBay/Craigslist/Swappa.
I was really looking forward to the One Max. I wouldn't mind the bigger size because of the idea of using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard on remote desktop. However, now that the specs are officially released by HTC, there's no way I'm settling for the Snapdragon 600. Considering other recently released devices are using the Snapdragon 800, like the Note3, HTC is making a huge mistake with the slower processor. I'd like to stay with HTC, but I'm not settling for a 600. I'm starting to lean towards a Note3 but I'll probably wait for the price to come down a bit.

Nothing that's a big enough improvement yet. The One is barely better than the DNA, and the Max is just a blown up version of the One.
Nexus 5 likely won't be on Verizon, so I'll be waiting for next year's flagships.

The specs are not that impressive on the N5, IMHO.
I plan on staying with the dna for quite a while. Nothing out right now really catches my eye and is convincing to drop my dna. I hate Samsung so I'm just going to end up waiting for the next best HTC phone.

I just traded my Note 2 to the DNA. LOVE IT so far.

I pulled the trigger on the DNA when Best Buy was giving them away. So far I am loving HTC coming from Moto only for years. I hope when it comes time for another upgrade there will be another awesome HTC phone for a great price.
I will most likely end up with the HTC ONE or a Nexus 5. Probably the One though. I like sense 5 way too much and the One is too solid of a phone to pass up.

Post DNA plans?
The DNA was my first phone on Verizon when it launched. I'm not due for an upgrade until late 2014. If I had to choose a device from the current crop, i'd pick the Moto X or the G2. But I'll wait until 2014 to make a real decision, but I would like to stick with HTC if possible. And by possible I mean if HTC has a device on Verizon with a similar screen size but higher ppi, much larger battery, more storage and the latest version of Android.
But that's what everybody wants right?
I would get the HTC One Max as soon as I could :upgrade or no..... I'd buy it the day it was available.
The new size is perfect for what I want in a phone.
But because I am into esthetics and the feel of a phone: that "rubberized" back cover, and I don't think I will ever see that style again, I'll keep the DNA.
I never cover my phone with a case!
iPhone 6
I'm sticking with the DNA for now.
One Max = too big for my personal taste
N5 = wont be on Verizon, and due to company rules, I dont have (or really want) another choice of carrier
G2 = nice... but not a big enough upgrade/difference for me to pull the trigger
Its interesting because with CM 10.2, I really feel like my phone is running so well that for the first time in a long time, I'm not itching to upgrade. Very weird feeling. But I think its due to the fact that there isnt a single app/game that I use which has problems or lag on the DNA.
Truly a supreme phone.
Yeah I love my DNA slick thin light but feels solid as do all HTC phones in my opinion. There really isn't a phone out or coming out that would make me feel jealous. This phone benchmarks with the best of them and we have a slew of roms out. Plenty of development by top devs who know a thing or two about fixing these issues we have.

I'm going to definitely stick with HTC if at all possible. If they updated the One with wireless charging, possibly a 5" screen (current size is good too) and the latest tech, I'd bite as soon as it came out.
