Preparing an android device to leave your possesion. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have a galaxy s2 i777 rooted and all that good stuff. Im trading it tomorrow for an iphone 4s. Meaning I will be a day without a phone because my sim card will not work on it. What is the easiest way to store everything that was on my galaxy i777 to my computer for future use and the biggest thing GAME SAVES!. I have like 15 hours clocked in Final Fantasy Dimensions and alot of grinding went on. So im desperate to back it up. Pictures, text messages, game saves EVERYTHING. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!
S/N I hope all of the webmasters and mods see this post and I wanted to just say even though I am a lurker,I learn so much stuff just browsing through forums. I love XDA and I hope it stays up forever.

Titanium backup. It's what I use to backup everything, including games.

Alright. I have titanium backup downloaded. My phone is rooted so it runs. Will Titanium Backup turn all my info into a zip file I can transfer to my pc for storing? Also is paying for pro worth it?

Ummm! OK! Data (pictures, musics, etc...) I understand you can save and move it over to iPhone 4S. But how are you going to save the game data and play the game from Android to iPhone? Titanium Backup would be great if you are going from one android phone to the other. Does iPhone even have Final Fantasy Dimensions game in their Apps store? Just wondering. Is the game data saved locally on your phone or on the server (meaning you'll have to sign-in to play)?

SO?
you realize you cant just copy that data over to iphone and expect it to work, right?
hell, i would love to see you copy it over to the iphone, period. you know, with its lack of filesystem accessible to human beings.

Took me 2 sec to do a google search. This might help you along the way in migrating to iPhone.

Also, I'm curious...what do you find so enticing about the iPhone 4s that you'll give up your Galaxy S2 for it?

Lol i think im letting my love of the original 4(Brought when released) get the best of me. But I dont see many options for android when it comes to high end devices thats LTE compatable(What I want in a android phone) at the price range of 300 bucks(On craigslist/ebay). The best phones seem to be the Galaxy s3,HTC One X or the iphone 5. I dont want the One X because of lack of external memory, the s3 everyone has -_-...want to be a little unique and well I was looking at the Sony TL and the battery life doesnt seem to have any praise.

ROFLOL... @ STravers - unique? I don't think so. iPhone is the trends (fads), that is not being unique. You might as well waited for the SIV. Supposedly coming in a few months ahead. It got the whissles and bells, and supposedly virtual keyboard that comes with the docking station. Now (to me) that is unique.

First things to do?

Hi guys,
So I took a look around and couldn't find anything comprehensive. I'll be picking up the S II tomorrow and it's going to be my first android phone so I was wondering if there was anything that you recommend doing right away or tips that you could give me?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marink

Creating a Google account(if you don't already have one) before you get the phone probably. And test everything out on your own I guess, it's alot more fun to find out yourself.

you dont need to charge it....... You can use it right out of the box.
First time charging
I haven't kept up with the trends, but does the initial long charge ideal still hold ?(Samsung commonly require 8-12 hrs of uninterrupted charging for the 1st time)
And can someone confirm what the manual says?
Play some tegra2 based games and see if they work well on the samsung processor.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
There is a lot of debate on what to do for Charging the device. From what I have gathered, a proper way to "Condition" the battery is to continuously charge it uninterrupted for 8 hours, then use is all the way until the battery is depleted and shuts off. Then charge it uninterrupted again till its full. Do this cycle 2 to 3 times.
I don't want to start another argument on what to do, you will be the best judge but I have done that with my previous devices and have had a very strong battery life.
download launcher pro, and beautiful widgets and take touch wiz off loll that's what I'm gonna do.
Sorry for being a stickler for details, but during the first 8 hour uninterrupted charging, you can use the phone right ? Don't mean like light usage (incoming calls, sms etc), more like.. i've got a new phone and i want to explore every new feature...
The trend of charging your phone for X amount of hours before using it was with the old batteries... You dont need to charge these new ones for X amount of hours before using the phone.

memory - ram clearing

when I had the SGS2 and I stopped all the running apps to close them out I also went to the ram tab and stopped whatever was running in that tab and it always showed like 19 apps running every time, So if I shut down all those running memory what was running in the memory to show 19 then i would do it again and it'll show 2-3 and shut that down how were all these running ?
How was that possible I clearly shut down what was in use and in memory it said 19
I don't have the SGS2 anymore.

I guess this device is as screwed up ! because if it weren't you would have answered the question and you know dam well what i'm talking about.....................
The UI on this device is no where near iOS not even close, IMO No wonder Jobs wanted to destroy Android besides it being stolen
correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're trying to find out why some apps are still in memory even after you attempt to close them? If so, Android does not manage memory the way you would think it should. Just because an app is in memory doesnt mean its actively using it. Android likes to keep apps in memory that it feels it will need soon, so it will load faster for the user. If the phone needs that memory for other apps, it will free up memory as needed. But until then, you'll see it appearing as if its running. Which is why if you attempted to kill apps, some may immediately reappear in the task manager. Android is keeping them opened for a reason.
i'm no android developer but I'm pretty sure thats the basic idea of android memory management. There are tons of information about this already if you want to go into more detail.
I posted at another site this same question and they gave me site to read about it.
http://mobworld.wordpress.com/2010/07/05/memory-management-in-android/
How to use memory efficiently
Android manages opened applications which are running in the background, so officially you shouldn’t care about that. This means that it closes the applications when the system needs more memory. However, most android users are not very satisfied with how it does its things because sometimes it leaves too many processes running which causes sluggishness’ in everyday performance. We can use advanced task killer/task manager and it does its job very well.
I only wanted to know if my phone was working correctly or not I wasn't sure if all those apps were suppose to be disabled or not but some A$$holes here have to worry about my abbreviations in my post so for all U that do take a flying F%$k for yourself..........................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,""""""""""""""""""""""""

Google play vs iTunes

I am getting ready to trade my note for an S3. Now, I am from an iPhone crowd until my note... so I am used to just plugging in my new apple device and iTunes cloning what I had on my old iPhone to me new one...
Does google play do this as well? Apps, pics, texts, etc?
Just to clarify.... my phone is NOT rooted. I dont want to root this one. I have A LOT of stuff I'd rather not lose (pics in "locked apps", music, all of my contacts)
Isk about i tunes but if ur not rooting because ur affraid to lose ur stuff then ur wrong u can save it g mail saves ur contacts as far as music im not sure mine stays on my sd card....

I don't know much about Kies, having only one experience with it when upgrading to ICS, and I didn't like it much. I use MyBackup from the market and really like it. They have free and paid version. I paid immediately after trying the free, and would highly recommend it. Small, simple and effective. I am also not rooted.

Even outside of the US (where Google music is only available) it is possible.

[Q] Considering getting this phone

I need an extra push, I'm hoping to find it here.
I'm coming from a Galaxy S2. There are two things I will have to live without, can anyone tell me if I should be worried?
1. The lack of a menu and search button.
2. Not having the ability to take out the battery.
On another note, I was wondering if someone could confirm if it's possible to remove the HTC Sense? The first thing I plan on doing is rooting it and removing basically any software HTC and AT&T add. One other question.. does anyone know if the IR can be setup to use custom commands, or if that's something we have to wait for developers?
I don't have much to add on here except the search button is so two years ago. No need to have that button there with the advent of long pressing and double tapping.

Most people that cry about batteries are usually closet Samsung fanboys. The ability to "take out the battery" is a bit overrated. Sorry but I don't have any need to add a brick to the back of my phone just so I can show off some "amazing battery stats"

Actually it's nice to have a search button where if I'm in the app drawer I can tap that and search for an app. Or if I'm on the home screen it opens google now. Or on a browser, it's a quick search button. You get the idea. What's the alternative now? How do you open Google Now or search for apps quickly?

I hate the way the S4 looks, and the S3. The huge rounded corners are a big turn off. I would end up getting that if I can't put up with the limitations the one has to offer.

Actually, I don't care about that.. I can optimize android to get what I need out of it. But I do like the ability to replace it if it dies or degrades in performance in a year from now, or say.. my phone is frozen, taking out the battery is often the fastest way to turn the damn thing off. Most of my stuff is in the cloud now, so I don't see me needing to replace my SD card. But it has occationally come in handy when I want to just pop it into my laptop to transfer some large files. I'm going to miss that.
I'm usually a Samsung guy but the one is amazing. We complain about the battery being no good over time and needing the ability to swap out. However, we get the next best thing after a year or so of use then sell the current device. The one is good. I haven't even rooted yet. I can wait until we get a stock RUU.

If I have any issues with the battery I am calling Squaretrade and getting a replacement. That's the great thing about having insurance even though I am not even sure If I will be using this device for the full 2 years. Also, if you hold the power button down for 10 seconds its just like pulling the battery, but much faster.
I came from having a Galaxy SIII on Verizon, switched to ATT with a Galaxy SII Skyrocket and am now a happy camper with my One. The biggest hurdle was getting over not having the same capacitive buttons and how much faster the One is.
By no means am I a heavy user but I am sitting here with 60% battery going on just over 8 hours.
Lol I love being to put a beastly 7000 mah battery in my phone to get 3 days of battery. But if I can't, it isn't that big of a deal. Btw I'm not a Samsung fan boy, I'm a fan of whatever is the best.

On a custom rom you can map the other buttons to do a menu and maybe even a search (I'm not sure)
Holding power+vol up and down simulates pulling the battery
Right now there is not a way to remove sense, you can use 3rd party launchers for now. They are working on pure android ROMs and development will be GREAT on this device. I have owned a S2 and played with the One and the One is SWEET. (I'm still waiting for my black to arrive). I have a HTC One XL and think it is MUCH better than my S2. Just get it, You will love it. Or wait for development to grow a little to give you all those features

Hi,
Look HERE
I suggest you go back to stock and see if that improves the speed of your phone.
Before that, backup all your stuff, because you should also factory reset.

you mean unroot right?
Don't unroot. Go into the android development and hacking forums and find a script to make your phone faster, and flash it in CWM recovery. If you can't do that, overclock your phone using the No Frills CPU Control app off the Play Store. Make sure both sliders are at the end and that your governer is Performance. Also, try out Auto Memory Optimizer, that's a good app for retaining your speed. And of course, always close apps when you aren't using them.

That's not how my friends S4 works, it is extremely responsive and fluid. Apps work without hiccups and even multi tasking is awesome. The first thing that came to my mind when you posted your phone's symptoms were, did you purchase it brand new from a shop? Is it on stock FM? Did you actually check it at the store before your purchased it?
Yours could be a FW or a HW problem. Is it possible to take the phone back to the store and have them fix/replace it before attempting software fixes?
