[Q] Why isn't the Nexus 7 available at all major retailers? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking for a Nexus 7, but I can't find them in any store. Best Buy doesn't sell them, Walmart doesn't sell them, Sears doesn't sell them, etc. Is Google deliberately holding back stock to direct people to the Google Play Store?

It wouldn't surprise me if huge corporations like Apple, Samsung and Amazon pay $$$ to retailers for not marketing certain devices in stores...

It's hard to say if it's because they want to keep hype or generally don't have them... I find it hard to believe that they honestly don't have them!

I'm pretty sure some stores are paid to only stock Apple/Nook/Fire Tablets. I know for sure that Walmart SHOULD have some in stock. The one where I live does. Also I'm pretty sure Best Buy and Sears don't stock them where I live. Must have some kinda deal with the other brands.

ive visited best buy, walmart, att store, radioshack and they dont seem to carry much for the i777.
If those stores don't have much, then your best bet is online purchases. There aren't much accessories for the SGSII in stores...
Online will give you the best selection but I've recently seen a variety at Staples and Office Depot.
yea i know that..i just want to see the actual product before making a purchase. its a hassle doing returns if there was anything wrong.

Still possible to get one?

Hey,
Is it still possible to get one of these before Christmas (assuming the live date is before then) ? I have not preordered yet.
Thanks
If you are in the US and you can find a place that is still accepting pre-orders, then maybe. It is very doubtful any stores will have it in stock until after the new years and seems like Canada and Europe are out of the questions until Jan or Feb.
However, it seems like Best Buy is the only place that has not cancelled or delayed pre-orders, so I would say you have your work cut out for you if you want one before the holidays.
I'd suggest calling around to some GameStop B&M stores. From some of the postings, it appears a couple of locations have more inventory arriving then they have pre-orders. Everyone on this forum's been going nuts to be first to get a Prime and are well aware of GameStop. But the average shopper probably wouldn't even think of them for tablets. Keep in mind not all GameStop stores sell tablets. If you have friends and family in other cities use them to expand your search.

Also keep in mind that Gamestop does not allow returns, so you would probably need to deal with Asus if you have any problems with the device. Honestly its a horrible place to buy anything but used games. They consistently open new products and sometimes remove contents or allow their employees to play with them before they shelf them. I just avoid buying anything new there.
However, it is true most people will not think of Gamestop for Tablets, so if they do get units this year it may be the best bet to find it.

Funny you'd say that. There are three GameStop's in my city that I didn't even know existed until the whole Prime pre-order thing. They're in obscure locations and the one I went in to looked like a thrift shop. Everyone working there looked like they were still in high school. On their website they say they have 6,627 company-operated stores in 17 countries. Who knew?
Here's a link to the game they opened to remove the OnLive coupons:

Yeah, that was a big fiasco. I found that if you want a new game from Gamestop that is unopened, you pretty much have to pre-order it and show up for a midnight launch if they hold one. Other than that I have never gotten a shrink-wrapped products. I hear this can vary store to store, but I have 4 within 10 miles of me and they all do the same.
So I just go in an buy used games. Those are the ONLY product they sell you can actually return. Probably because they buy stuff for $1-$5 and sell it for $20-$50.
Of course, I guess this is all off topic. Sorry.
Yes, if you want to pay between $699-800 on ebay

I'm going to take my chance on Best Buy on launch date, they are bound to have some in stock on launch date.
I've never heard of a new product being sold to only online shoppers who pre-ordered weeks in advanced.
I also have it hard to believe that there many out there who are anxious for this product for it to sell out quickly on launch date.
Unlike that $199 1080p Sharp HDTV Best Buy fire sold on Black Friday, I was amazed then that no body in the line I waited that day was interested in the $249 Transformer.

The Prime probably decreased interest in original Transformer sales. It's a sweet deal at $250 but the second version was already announced. That said, my friend couldn't get a hold of the $250 ones (she waited in Manhattan)... I guess it also depends on the location.
Anyway, it's a week away from release so really the best chance now would be to stalk brick and mortar stores. (call ahead)

Note 2 at Best Buy $199.99 net.

https://rewardzonemobile.com/
Note 2 is $299 with 50000 best buy reward points which is same as $100 gift card. You have to be reward zone member(free). It works for Iphone and others also.
Iphone 5 with 16gb was $149 yesterday with the 50000 points.
I'm gonna check this out thanks.

It only works for upgrades and new contracts at that price. You get the normal upgrade price plus 50000 reward zone points which is enough for a $100 best buy purchase or gift card. You have to be reward zone member which is free. If you order 2 phones or more they are sent to best buy store.
Is there any downside to upgrading your phone at BB rather than Verizon? Any hidden between the lines gotcha's? Fees? Spam mail/calls? I was going to get my N2 at Verizon tomorrow but if this really is the real deal..a free $100 would be nice!

I got mine from BB rather than Verizon for the simple fact of having 30 days to exchange the phone if it doesn't fit the bill. No hidden gotcha's that I know of.
I got mine for $200 because of them matching the price at Amazon.

How did you get them to match Amazons price?? They told me you have to be able to physically walk into the store and be able to purchase for the discounted price. If you can't, then they wont match it.

They just looked up the price online on the Aamzon Website, then matched it. Then Changed the price, but again that is with a new 2 Yr Activation. It is printed 3 times on te receipt. But I didn't get all those reward points, Just the cost of the phone. But the fine print on the website says, it is online only if I read it correctly

I read that they would match the price of Amazon, so I decided to try and see if they would.
Went into the store and picked out the one I liked and then said "you all match the price of Amazon because they have it for $199.99"...response was we do as long as it's "NOT" from a 3rd party selling through Amazon.
He looked it up and said we were good to go for that price....I said AWESOME!

Tried today, and after initial shock they we're going along until they saw Amazon's phones were backordred. They said since you couldn't buy get it today on Amazon they couldn't sell today in Best Buy. I pleasantly told them that seemed wrong, they said sorry, policy, I said thanks for your time. I will probably go the Best Buy 5,000 ($100) online rewards points bonus route for purchasing the Note II at $299. Almost as good.

[Q] [US] Where is the best place to get the Nexus 9?

Do you think I'll get it faster if I get it on Google Play instead of Amazon?
Not sure to be honest. But if you are paying $9.99 from play store Amazon in the other hand will upgrade your delivery for that price, so i guess Amazon would be quicker.
I paid £3.33 for first class delivery shipping 1 to 2 days latest ETA 5th November.
I paid 3.99 for overnight shipping from amazon so you can't beat that.
buy from amazon if you want to get it a bit faster, but any warranty exchanges/rma will go through htc for any third party purchase.
Purchasing from google play means that google will handle alll warranty claims/rma. They will 2 day ship the NEW device, and you ship back the defective device back to google.

I second this-- I fully expect Amazon to be faster, however I had such a great experience with Google customer support for my N5 that the additional shipping charges/potential wait time are worth it to me.
In case you're curious: In September, Google started offering free, no questions asked replacements for N5 owners. I had about two weeks left of the one year warranty by the time I heard about it, and they took back my cracked N5 with zero hassle. I received the replacement overnight, and they released the hold on my credit card the day after I shipped back the broken device. This courtesy replacement service was ONLY available to play store customers.

+1. The same reason I went with Google. Their customer service can't be beat. If you don't go with Google you'll probably have to deal with HTC for warranty. That was the scenario with the n5

Ya my n7 I bought at staples had problems and it was a nightmare dealing Asus directly. My n5 bought directly from the play store was a breeze to RMA. Worth a day and $10 to me if needed.
If you live in Canada and buy the N9, is the price shown the Canadian price? As well, does it ship from Canada or do I have to pay duties as well?
Otherwise I may order from Amazon Canada to get around duties.

Same boat for NY. I'm more than likely just going to wait for some other vendor to pop up later that doesn't want to hit me for an extra 40 bucks for tax. Maybe an eBay vendor selling sealed.

Gauging On eBay - SMH!

Can you believe people trying to get 40-100% markup on these on eBay?
People outside the U.S. that can't get them locally, I'd gather.
Talk about exploiting a situation..... SMH!
I remember Cabbage Patch Kids. Gouging has been happening for a while now, regardless of the product. If its in demand, someone will price gouge.

It may also just be that people with money want things and can afford it.
It may not make sense to you... But for the guy who is making 5 times what you do.... Paying double still feels like less, and time is money, why **** around?
I saw those $1000 for a 32gb one... Who woudl buy that? Its almost worse than iPhone people
You call it gouging, I call it supply and demand or capitalism.
They have every right to ask whatever they want for things they sell - more power to them if they can get someone to actually pay it.

Except that it's apparently not available in some countries yet. Someone in Argentina I think it was complained about not being able to get one for a while, if ever. And if it DID become available, the price would be greatly increased.
So...it sucks because they're getting price gouged even more, but at least it's available...personally, I wouldn't increase the price by more than, I dunno, $50 or so to cover my minimal time and effort? But that's just me.

No, it's supply and demand. The supply in the US is plentiful, but it is not in other areas.
Also, for the instance of someone buying one in the US, that I'm sure you'll bring up, it is still supply and demand. The person selling is assuming they will have their pre-ordered device before a regular person will be able to pick one up in a store. So they are going to sell it to the person who really really wants it but didn't get a pre-order in early enough. If the person buying is willing to pay that high of an amount to get a phone a little early, then the demand has been created, and the seller is fulfilling that demand with their supply.
For example I pulled this off a $1,000 ebay listing.
"This pre-order item was ordered from Google early on the onsale date, and is expected arrive at my address November 4th - November 6th. I will immediately ship it upon receipt to the purchaser of this auction. In the unforeseen event of Google being unable to deliver the phone to me by November 11th, a full refund of the purchase price will be offered to the purchaser. "
That bolded part right there, would technically get to ME before my pre-order which quoted me Nov. 10-12, so the people who got in early, are banking on others wanting this thing yesterday, and they might be willing to pay.
With that said, are the people selling them for $1000 crooks, no, they have the right to do whatever they want with it, once they own it. However anyone who buys it for that price is a moron.
What ever happen to opportunist capitalism?
The value of the item is worth what someone will pay for it. If they can get it, kudos to them. If not, no one will buy it from them and the eBay auction will be back to MSRP. The buyer is fronting the cost of the good in hopes they can sell it for cost + eBay fees. I see nothing wrong with asking for the moon and settling on a tidy 10 or 15 percent profit.

Not sure i see an issue with it . People that have money will pay for what they want for what ever reason, weather its something they cant get in there county/ location or there is a supply issue and someone has it wants to take advantage of the situation to make extra money. no one is forcing anyone to pay those prices.
I wouldn't pay those prices for something i would just wait to find it cheaper lol
