[Q] Wifi Hotspot toggle?? - AT&T LG Optimus G

I have a legit tethering plan and works when I manually go into settings and enable it. I want to quickly enable the hotspot as soon as I get in my car. I downloaded and tried many widgets to no avail. It's not even an option in Quick settings. Also tried using NFC Task Launcher by using NFC tags and the mighty Tasker app which only gets as far as disabling my wifi. Does anyone know off an app or widget that can toggle/enable Wifi Hotspot with this phone??

I have looked for some way of switching my tab from tether to wifi when I enter house. Nearest thing I found so far is "Hotspot Widget" it is in google play, I can not post links. This is a widget that switches hotspot function on/off. May be what you are looking for.

Did you get this working with the LG Optimus G? You mentioned your tab only.

Sorry for the late reply.
No I have Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i, on which I installed "Hotspot Widget" & when I click on the icon it switches my teather hotspot on & Tab automatically switches to it when I am out of range of my home wifi. When I return home I click on the icon again to switch teather hotspot off & tab logs on to home wifi. Give it a go.

I haven't tried it, but llama has an action to toggle WiFi hot spot.
Not to mention that llama is just plain awesome.

A portable wifi settings shortcut, on the home screen, is the best solution I've found so far. At least it is only two clicks.

WORKING 4g wifi tether (Non ad-hoc) Photon 4g

Those of you who have the wonderful Photon 4g with sprint might not want to pay for the Mobile Hotspot. After a long time fiddling with settings and trying every method I could find online, nothing worked, until now!
Needed:
Rooted photon
Wifi tether 3.1 beta 6
Tasker
Summary:
turn 3g data off, re-enable wimax, restart phone, configure wifi tether, wifi tether, walaha.
Steps:
Open Tasker (free 7 day trial, not gonna link a cracked version but they may be out there )
Tap the green "+" symbol. Name it anything.
Select "State". Select "Net". Select "Mobile Network". Check 2G and 3G. Click the green check.
Select "New Task". Name it anything.
Click the blue "+".
Select "Net".
Select "Mobile Data" (the one on the left)
Set it to "Off". Click the green check. Click the next green check.
Click the green "+" to make another profile. Name it anything.
Select "State". Select "Net". Select "Mobile Network". Check 4g. Click the green check.
Select "New Task". Name it anything.
Click the blue "+".
Select "Net". Click "WiMax". Set "On". Click the green check.
Now click on the first profile you made (The one that toggles 3g off)
Click the button with the name of the task you made in that profile. Click "Edit". Click the play media looking button to the right of the green check and red x.
Restart phone.
Run Wifi Tether. Set it up as so:
Samsung Galaxy S
Netd(master)
Wifi Encryption
MSS clamping: on
Routing fix: on
Tether!
NOTE: if after you restart your phone your 3g is still active, make sure your profiles are turned on in Tasker.
Let me know if its not working for you guys, tested it on 2 devices, both worked fine 5-10mbs speed.
What about the phone going to idle on 4G ???
I think what you are saying, if you are just turning off 3g, you can do it with widgetsoid 2.x. Just presenting another option that isn't a trial.
Good find.

Yes but this method lets you use the 4g tethering over wireless without ad hoc, without being knocked off.
Hmm... ok, I did all of that with tasker, and restarted - but 3G is still on. Profiles are also on in tasker.
I mean, I think I get the same end result - I disable 3G, and enable Wimax... but still, it'd be nice to do it with Tasker!
OK - just retried all steps.
I restart the phone, and 4G is active. When I run Wifi Tether, the Sprint Hotspot app also starts up, I get a "Mobile IP response error" and then 4G breaks and 3G comes back on... any idea what I'm doing incorrect?
thanks a lot
I followed all the above steps and it works on 4g perfectly. Although I think I may have a different version of the app, some steps are slightly different I was still able to figure it out. I've been trying to use wifi tether on 4g all along and finally it works like a champ. Thanks!!!
what version of tasker u using? thanks in advance...
Tasker not active
I have the profiles created, rebooted and profiles still there! However, pull down bar indicates that there are no active Tasker profiles...and hence, wifi not working...suggestions?
How many of these steps have to be performed each time you want to tether? I am starting to miss my Evo Shift... open the app and go. Good thing I don't tether too often. Thanks for a workaround for now.
Not working.
I was getting this message before and still am it says
"What the hell!! Your phone is taking back control of the wifi-interface. Immediate tethering shutdown!!"
weird, just weird
there is a much simpler method to get reliable/fast 4g tethering. Use the data enabler widget and simply turn off 3g data by pressing the widget icon before starting wifi tether. As long as you have a 4g signal, you're off and running (using the tethering app settings recommended above). No need to reboot phone, set up profiles etc...

Same here. I've also noticed that Wireless Tether is no longer visible in the Market....
EDIT: Called Sprint, It's a change to their Terms Of Service. They now block Wifi Tether so the Auto-Start of Mobile Hotspot is all them. Between the Filtering and now this, I've about had it with them.

Soooo, let me get this straight....you've had it with them blocking a service that you know darn well your suppose to pay extra for that your using for free??? I'm lost here (and dont get me wrong, I dont think any carrier should charge for tethering)
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
No, I understand that they dont want it. A simple pop up would do, but blocking 3rd party stuff bothers me. Its more the principle that they WOULD block it.
I don't know why you guys are going about this hard way...
Well there are different options on how to approach this, and it depends on which version of WirelessTether you are using. If you are using 2.0.7, your options are limited, but the 3.0 beta's are where the availability opens up on how many [Device-Profiles] you can choose from. You can reduce your output power to save battery with the older versions, but not the new ones for some reason.
Because Sprint has blocked you from downloading them, you have to sideload them. You can download it directly from google at: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ (Newest is Beta 11)
Here's what you do:
Open up WirelessTether
Hit the *Menu* button and press Settings.
Under [Device Profile], select Google NexusOne (This is the most common profile for this mode, I've tried different ones. Most of them work)
Under [Setup Method], select Netd (master)
(If you wish to do so, select encryption and channel options.)
Scroll down and check [MSS Clamping]
Then when you press back and activate tethering, WT will hack and take over your stock Mobile Hotspot app and you will be broadcasting an Infrastructure network rather than an ADHoc one.
It is common to see "Mobile IP Response error" over and over again until your Photon finally handshakes itself into the network. Ignore it. Shouldn't take more than a minute if it doesn't do it on the first try.
Now you don't have to download any trial apps and turn this and that off... blah blah blah. You can also setup a widget to turn off tethering using this method.

Wireless Tether on ics

Is there a guide to getting the Fascinate to work with any of the wireless tether apps? I tried several and not able to connect. I just installed ics - didn't have a problem before.
And thanks

Is your root working? Many apps have settings for galaxy nexus device and netd master. Those work for this phone.

I had the same problem for a while but then figured it out.
Download WiFi Teather from the app store then hit menu button and go to settings. Change the device profile to generic ics and it should now work just fine.
Click on the button to start it and it should turn yellow and show some stats for download/upload kb etc.
All set. After that you can enable/disable access control so that you can select who to allow internet access to from your phone.
Hope this helps.

I have the DNA, rooted, and use Wifi Tether (App Store) with some modified settings and it works.

im referring to the tethering & portable hotspot. not the third party app
No it hasn't been hacked yet to bypass the check.
You used to be able to use the app "power toggles" I don't know how ir did it, but, when you used the hotspot toggle, it just turned on the naitive hotspot app and didn't check for subscription. Didn't even need root. I tested this one day at a haw store. Installed power toggles on like 8 of the display phones and turned on the hotspots, no security , with ssids like "free internet!" , "vzw free hotspot" and so on
Worked on all models lol

[REQ] Disable lock screen security when on home wifi

You can try "Delayed Lock" by j4velin in the play store. Great app - It will even turn your lock back on after disconnecting from home wifi. Works for blue tooth as well. Trial version just has a nag screen every 5 unlocks. Worth the purchase to support the dev. Also, support available here at XDA.
Currently running [email protected] app with Unlock with wifi app works great for me.... Also if you're willing to learn check out Tasker..
A slight hijack... I want to do the same thing, but slightly different. Does anyone know of an app that unlocks when you are NEAR your home wifi, but not actually connected to it? I live in the sticks & have 12Mbps satellite internet with a 10GB monthly limit. My 4g connection is faster & I'm still on unlimited. I've tried using Tasker, but can't seem to get it to work.

With this:
"Delayed Lock Location Plugin" - in the play store (same developer).
(same lock screen functionality, just location based, not GPS, uses cell towers)

I use an app called "phone locator pro" and it has the option. It works great. I've tested the remote features including locating, camera snapshots, and even remote wiping. All work great. It disables the lock when on any wifi connection that you register with the app. I just wish that you could also add a bluetooth connection so when I am in my car I do not have to unlock it.
Here is with tasker and secure setting example. Tasker never fails me.

I've never used Tasker. Do you think it would be possible to keep the phone unlocked when connected to any bluetooth connection? This would be awesome if you could keep the phone unlocked in your car.

I am a fan of tasker, but I think delay lock is better. It does Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I have never been satisfied with using tasker for this purpose...it "misses" too often.

Hotspot Widget that works

I have tried numerous hotspot widgets but yet have found one that actually turns on my hotspot. When I click on the widget it shows like it is going through the motion and the phone says that it is checking subscription and the icon for the hotspot shows up and then just goes away. The hotspot is never turned on. Yet, if I do it straight from the settings menu I can turn it on. I am not rooted, am on stock. Is anyone use a hotspot widget that works with this phone? Or am I missing something? Thanks.
Go to the android market and find foxfi it will work for you
