You can find answers to all of your questions
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/482994-rooting-galaxy-s2-dummies-guide.html

This thread is unnecessary. You could've just used the search button, this is probably the most asked question in all of XDA. Did you watch the "I am a noob video"?
As is it most asked it is also most easiest to find.
Consider yourself lucky you got a good answer, if it was, TheATHEiST, Donnie Sins, theunderling, f-r or gastonw + many more senior members, you would have to do more than just post this thread

Was it wrong for me to answer his question man? I'm new on here too. I have been on this site multiple times looking for answers to my questions about my phones, and so I joined to help others who have questions. But considering I'm new, even though I watched the video, I'm not exactly sure when to answer these kinds of questions?

You did nothing wrong, you helped out him in trouble. But that link to CF-Kernels is very easy to find, i came here for the first time to ask about root to, but first i explored all sections of SGS2 forum and found out about CF-kernel myself.
I dont blame you for anything but by answering these types of questions you also encourage other noobs to post threads without searching for a similar one.
But as said, you did nothing wrong.

Awesome thanks man

Hey there
I'm fairly new to rooting and I was using this guide:
cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
but I cant seem to find the kernel that is "similar" or "close to" as mine. I am currently on exact same stats as above:
Model: GT-I9100P
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband V: I9100PXXKI3
Kernel V: 2.6.35.7-I9100PXXKJ4-CL664063 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKJ4
also I seen people mentioning NFC which I have no idea if my phone has or not, but I do know I purchased it off O2 on "contract", I was wondering if I could still root my phone and which kernel would be SAFE to use
I am willing to speak via Skype (British) to have someone walk me through the procedure if that makes anyone's life easier.
thank you for any feedback :cyclops:

NFC, just google the meaning came with your phone.
Don't follow just any root my phone tutorial on just any site. If you mess up with your phone, those guys can't help you.
The is the easiest way to root your phone, You don't even need to flash any kernel.
good luck

im sorry but i read through that post and got totally lost, i do not see any sort of structure explaining my situation - nor did i find anything to do with the i9100P-XXKJ4 model - which is what im trying to find the correct kernel for =/
the Cnet guy seems the most simplest way to me, if only i had a kernel that i was sure would work - i would have a rooted sgs2 by now.

Anyway, now that your are still running gingerbread.
Check out CF-ROOT thread under original android development section on this forum, look four your kernel version, and follow the instructions there.

[Q] Basic Noob Rooting Questions

Hi Guys sorry if these questions have been asked a million times but i have read thread after thread and there is just so much different info out there i don't know what to do for the best...
I basically just want to root my samsung galaxy s2 so i can use root apps, not interested in using different roms at the minute, just rooted apps.
I got my phone last week and updated using the Kies update straight away to ICS, by doing this have i made it harder to root as all the guides seem to be for gingerbread and not ICS.
Looking at my phones info it says the
Model Number = GT-I9100
Kernel = 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505 [email protected] #3
Android Version = 4.0.3
Baseband Version I9100NELP2
Build Number = IML74K.XXLPQ
Any help would be greatly appreciated or even just pointing to the thread that i need to use, or i have messed it up by upgrading to ICS?
Cheers Elroy

for ODIN flash you have to unzip the file to get a TAR file...
If you are flashing first time, read the instructions for ODIN flash carefully...

You can upgrade it and there is plenty of threads here about it. I suggest you to read more before doing anything.
Basically if your phone is rooted, get Odin, download ROM you want and flash it according to instructions.

No.
If you have all the tutorials you need then follow them.
End of topic.
PS: if you have a clear question then ask it first but dont reply to someone helping you by "I have all the tuto I need" but I have X or Y question.
It works like this here: you ask a clear question nicely, you will probably get a clear answer.
Anyway your topic sucks because that's a lack of respect for all those who bothered putting a tutorial to explain how to do.
You can not use a basic search and yet want to "upgrade your phone"??

You can flash any ROM designed for your phone model. You might want to use one which is released for your region so your modem works well.

The M250K in your baseband version makes me think this is a Korean variant? Personally I'd probably ask a question in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097347 before flashing anything.

U might try downloading the ROM for ur device, then follow this steps:
1. Copy the ROM to Ur memory
2. Put in into Recovery Mode (when the phone is booting press (VOLUME UP + HOME)
3. Depending of the ROM u gonna flash u ll follow the steps for the installation, but remember before flashing any ROM different to the one u already have always WIPE DATA TO FACTORY.
4. Flash the ROM
5. Restart
Note: Ur phone doesn't need to be rooted to change the ROM

The website is called xda developers, not xda beginners. Pretty much everybody is writing tutorials and ROMs etc is doing it on their own time, for free. That time they have spent is a lot longer than the time it would take you to read a little and understand exactly what you need. So many people manage to change their firmware every day thanks to this site, without clogging up the message board with the same question that god knows how many people have already pointlessly posted this week alone.

See above post. In the time its taken you to prattle on about how unhelpful people are and irritate them, you probably could have read enough to learn what you're doing, same as most people. And the reason I saw this thread was shockingly enough because I was reading. Weird that.

Need help finding insecure kernel please

Hi, My names Drew, and I just recently joined xda to tinker around with my phone and explore the possibilities that the manufacturers apparently didn't want us to have. I have had my phone for quite a while and I felt it was time to play with it some more. I am have the Samsung Galaxy S2, it is StraightTalks version of it, here are the details on it found through the about-phone.
Firmware: 2.3.6
BasebandVersion: S720C.01 VLI02
Kernel Version: [email protected] -55 #2 PREEMPT Wed Sep 12 10:20:26 KST 2012
I was not sure of which information was needed to get a insecure kernel version, as I could not find anything specifically geared to my phone on these forums. I was unable to directly post on the developers thread due to my low post count (which I would hope should soon get higher as time moves on). So basically, to the point, what insecure kernel should I use since I am a first time rooter? I understand everything here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 except for step two when it's talking about kernal versions.
I moved your question to a new thread in the proper forum where someone can help you out.

I am not sure(gb is old school) but your kernel version isn't exactly shown, and your current kernel already kinda looks like a insecure kernel, I suggest that you dial *#1234# check the pda info and since the kernel usually matches the firmware(pda) version get one kernel according to that.
Edit: Safer thing to do would be to upgrade to JB and rooting it(which is fairly easier I think).

Just get a stock jb operating system from sammobile and flash via Odin, there are a lot of threads that cover those matters, read stickied threads, it's a really easy and simple procedure, just be careful not to make mistakes (like suddenly flashing pit files).

I went on sammobile, and looked through their firmware list and mine was not even on there. So that brings me to my next question, since mine is a straight talk phone, and is NOT on the list, is there a possibility that my phone will be bricked flashing a stocked jb operating system to it?

What do you mean by "straight talk" is it some kind of network operator, and are you using some kind of network unlocked device (I am asking because you mentioned Verizon), I will tell you one simple thing though if your device model( as given in the about phone - >model number) is GT-I9100 then it's safe to flash any i9100 JB firmware (especially since you're on GB) if the phone gets sim locked or something you can use the unlock apps available here or in the playstore to unlock it.

It was actually SCH-S720C, sorry I was being a busybody on android area51, I managed to solve my own issue and root my phone. With all the trouble of trying to figure out which insecure kernel I needed to flash, I found out that my phone is actually the Samsung Proclaim, even though I have never heard my phone be called that before. And yes it was Straighttalk, its like Net10. Sorry to leave everyone who replied since my last reply hanging, I have been very busy lately. Thanks for replying on my thread to help me out.

[Q] Help. Can i root my S3 or it´ll die?

Helo, im new and i recently bought a samsung S3 i9300. I've been reading a lot about the sudden death, but i prefer to solve some doubts before trying to do some root things... (please sorry if my english isn' good).
I want to root my phone , but im not so sure if my device or firmware is already "fixed" or something (i'll attach the data at end).
I need to know in case that it's fixed... what are the better way to root it (i mean less risky). For example via Odin or Via CWM, CF-root or another method. idk, im confused by now..
im new to this phone and i dont want to brick it or something...
Here is the data of the Device and firmware, etc:

Remember, read the stickies, but if you're unsure of anything, ask. It's easier to set you straight before you do anything than to fix something after you've done it

Ok, i've readed a lot about rooting & flashing... i just want root acces for the apps that need it.. yet dont have intention to flash a custom rom, so i think the Cf-AutoRoot is the best option, whitout the custom repair mode and the apps.
I just have one doubt left about the sudden death. Is that a flashing or rooting issue?
In that case, how can i know if my i9300 have or not the "fix".
I am on a stock 4.1.2 (all the data of device in the first post)

As previously stated, 4.1.2 has the fix. Rooting does not affect this. It does not change your firmware version
