I bought an M730W about a month ago from geeks. It came with 2.3.4 on it. I searched high and low to find the ICS for it since I'd seen that the same model is out and comes with it installed. I finally contacted Geeks to see if they could get me in touch with the manufacturer. They had no contact info. Finally after digging around I noticed something with the name of the US based company that hold the patent rights to it. I then dug more and got their number and while I was on hold I found their site. At this address (mymidpad dot com forward slash Downloads_M730Flash dot html) iwas was able to obtain a good manual and the updated firmware. Inside the installer it comes with PhoenixUSBPro, an IMG file and a key. During the install it said it was installing drivers to my laptop but I can not find them when I connect my tablet. The only way that I can apply the update is to have my M730W connected to my machine in a way that it's recognized. The only way for me to do so now is to connect as a USB storage device which does me no good when it comes to using the included software and firmware for updating. So my question is, does anyone know what I can do to resolve this issue?

Since its a tablet(a generic one at that) you have to use a program for your pc called Live Suite which is primarily used for the ainovo tablets but can be used with any generic tablet. I cant do it right now but most likely tonight, ill post the links and the information on how to upgrade to ics. im currently running 4.0.3 flawlessly and much faster and smoother than GB. and i have full root which i can also show you how to do. just let me know

That's killer Ace, thank you so much!!! Mine came rooted, which has been a blessing. Whenever you can get the information to me is fine. I'll do a search for Live Suite and see if I can at least get that step taken care of.

I hav same tab, worked great until about the 5th rom i tried, now my touch screen is off, you hav to touch dn to the left of where u want..or off to the side.. now any rom i flash has same issue.. do u hav the stock rom or now of a fix for this..any help... i tried links and site would not load..to u hav original rom thanks
Anyone have a step by step of how to do this? I'd really like to run CM9 on it, but have no idea how to even boot into recovery mode. Where's the youtube video?

I don't have just the rom. What I've got is the package that can be downloaded from their site. I don't have enough posts in to put an external link in my posts here. I'd try using a different browser and going to the URL I cheated into my OP. Just replace "dot" with "." and "slash" with "/". The software doesn't install the drivers properly on Vista though so you will want to be aware of that.
Any other word??? I want to update my neice's if at all possible.

I have searched this exhaustively! I still don't know what ROM to download or how to boot into recovery mode. The guy above who posted about Live Suite? Haven't heard back from him. I downloaded that, but without the ROM, I don't see the point in even setting it up. I'm not particular about which ROM, as long as it's newer than the one on here, preferable CM7 or newer, but beggars can't be choosers emmirite??!!

Well, well, well. Someone gave me a POS Kocaso M750B and I've been on a search to do something else with it. And I find a good chap from the epic 4G forums.
Did you ever make any progress getting any other rom on your el cheapo tablet?

LOL. Hi there. Nope. Not a damn thing have I done with mine. It is sitting on my desk. I let my son play Minecraft on it on long rides, and I use it as backup for my phones camera. I know it could be so much smoother, but is being crippled by it's OS. If I could ficgure out how to boot it into recovery I might risk bricking it with a questionable ROM. But I can't find the ROM OR the means by which to boot into recovery. In truth though, I mainly got it to patootz with. I'm more of a laptop kind of guy anyway.

If you don't know, there's no chance any of us ever will. Someone got this for free at some promotion and handed it off to me, so I'm out absolutely nothing. Just a bummer there isn't more to do with it. You'd think that all these POS tablets would just share the same mainboard and proc, so that some standard JB rom would work for all of them. The screen is terrible and it registers touches so poorly that many games are just unplayable. But, if I give it to one of my nieces or nephews, I'll be a hero!

Yes you will be a hero. I'm sure there are generic ROMS that would work with this. A) I have no idea where they would be. and B) I don't know how to flash them. If I found one I suspected was close, I might try to ODIN it on there.

Hi everyone! Today I finally decided to register in this great community, mainly because I'm looking for help and you are the ones that can help me.
I'm Henry and as the title says, I've hold and played with a Samsung Galaxy S3 running nothing more than Gingerbread. Why and how were my first questions when I first saw it, but I haven't been able to answer that.
This is the story: a friend of mine was given that GS3 hoping that he could solve the stuttering and lagging that it had (has) after a professor of him took it to a "technician". He, being the Android lover he is became surprised, so he came to me yesterday hoping that we could bring things back to normal (install stock jelly bean), but with no avail. That "thing" has the stock recovery and is not rooted, things we found EXTREMELY weird. We spent three hours trying to root it and then install a new recovery using different tools (gingerbreak, odin, odin mobile [we realized odin mobile needs root permissions to work, but still], samsung kies, universal_gb_root, framaroot) but you guessed: nothing worked. The only thing we didn't use was SuperOneClick. We couldn't put it into download mode and when we connected it to the pc, it didn't appeared as "adb interface" or "android composite device" but appeared with another strange name that had nothing to do with samsung or android, I can't recall the name of it right now. The other things we found was that the GS3 was showing that the internal storage was just 200mb, when it's a phone with "16"gb of storage, and that the battery says SAMSONG instead of SAMSUNG.
Long story short: it was an international, unlocked Samsung Galaxy GS3 i9300 running Gingerbread. My friend got it because a professor of him wanted he to fix it because after she took it to a "technician" it was very laggy. It was not rooted, it has stock android recovery (useless) and odin won't recognize it.
Do you guys have any effing idea of what is going on and how can we fix it?
We have three hypothesis: 1) they swapped her phone with a chinese knockoff (an extremely identical and functional knockoff); 2) they swapped the GS3's hard drive; 3) they didn't know what they were doing and installed Gingerbread instead of Jelly Bean (yup, sounds unlikely).

Then it's an extremely accurate clone. It has the samsung's boot animation, sounds, everything!

They all do. These things you listed are the easiest things to "clone". In fact, since they live in software, they could easily have been ripped out of the official firmware. A friend of mine (willingly) bought a Note 2 clone. It even has the annoying whistle notification.
It's not that accurate a clone though, if it comes with gingerbread, which the S3 never came with.

You need to prove 2 things.
1) It is a fake
2) It was not a fake before
2 is quite easy if it was supplied form an official network / carrier / provider store. 1 will involve screenshots of the about phone area and some physical shots as well as some info gained from this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z&hl=en

Easiest way to tell a clone is to take the back off and compare side by side with a genuine s3, the shape of the inner mouldings, position of sim and sd readers is very hard to exactly match during the reverse engineering process.
But the gingerbread and lack of download mode is conclusive in itself.
Check the imei and serial numbers on the original phone packaging against the imei of the handset you hold, if they are the same then your friend bought a clone.
Hello all. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I recently got my girlfriend a zte overture on aio wireless. I've been looking at a method to root this phone and have found nothing. The phone is pretty decent, not even looking for a custom ROM (yet), just need root to bypass the Google hangout video call WiFi restriction, and to get wifitether working for her.
I understand that their isn't much demand for ROMs and what not for that phone. But with aio wireless going nation wide and the phone being only 150 bucks with semi nice specs and 4g, figured something's would start popping up for this phone.
Anyway any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

ZTE Overture z995 - root method from other ZTE's?
I tried the Lumina 620 last week with Aio, and while the phone hardware was awesome the Windows Phone 8 OS was my hangup - (cmon guys, cant even add custom notification sounds? No system file explorer? The HERE maps are 2 years old or more in my area too...).
So I went back to Aio and got the ZTE Overture (Z995). (LTE Rocks! Wow I like the speed and coverage in DFW!)
It's a nice phone - low on memory, but it allows you to remove facebook with no issues, and the build on it is not too junked up.
Can anyone tell or theorize on whether other ZTE root methods work on this phone? I'd love to put a hosts file ad block on it...

I have seen statements that ZTE doe not have a locked bootloader. I noticed in my phone settings, in system updates, it even has options for "Storage card updates" and the "Update ZTE Software" option seems to try to open a zip file on the SD card... so does that mean you could put SU in a zip file and just ask the phone to apply the zip to get root? I doubt it's that simple, but I thought I would ask...
I've tried using google translate on baidu to see if anything came up but man, it's tough to navigate that site if you don't speak Chinese...
Oh - This phone is $79 at Aio. I also asked what happens to us Aio folks when AT&T shuts Aio down to merge it with Cricket in the coming months and got blank stares... (we should be OK, they'll just move us into Cricket I assume. They people at the Aio store might not be so lucky.)
Haven't heard anything about a merge with cricket. Aio just went national about a month ago so that would be strange.
Anyway, I'm still searching for an answer to get root on that phone.
Want to bypass the need to be on WiFi for hangouts, which needs root to achieve.

Do a quick Google for "att cricket aio", you'll see the blogs and news about it... Who knows - maybe if ATT shutters AIO we can get an unlock code early for free.
(hey just a thought does AIO stand for "ATT's Independent Operator"? And would that be ironic, or an oxymoron? )

I haven't found anything yet. It must not be an extremely popular phone based on the low quantity of hits I get looking around the net for info on it.
Which is weird because I really like it. I got over 5 days of life and was still at 30% when I plugged it in last week, which is awesome (less than 10 minutes talk time on it however). I wasnt sure how much battery life an LTE connection would take but it doesent appear to be much in standby.
I do see references to a ZTE blade and rooting them, and that thread (I think its in xda somewhere) stated all ZTE phones have unlocked bootloaders... and there are threads about the 990 (the Overture is the 995) being unlocked. But until I see someone play with their 995 I am not assuming ZTE left it unlocked. It is a phone on the ATT network so I would expect them to be less customer friendly. (qualification: they dont like you monkeying with their phones as much, but the customer service is tons better than a straight-talk type provider for sure)
I am just hoping I'll run across a post stating how to root it someday. LTE is awesome speeds, but it still burns me up to have to spend some of my bandwidth on video ads on youtube. Especially for something I would never buy and they show the same commercial over and over and over...

I also read that zte devices where all unlocked. But if my memory serves correctly, the guide on how to root zte devices found on xDA was for android 2.3.
Surprised that nothing has appeared for the phone. It was a cheap decent price with lte capabilities. Thought more people would be using it.

Well I tried that Root Method and it seem to work fine and its pretty easy. Installed super user seems to be working fine the only thing that i am having toruble with is getting the wifi tether to work (im using WiFi tether- TrevE Mod) got it installed and all but when i turn it on it gives me a message tethering started with errors to go to the show log.. I do that and in the show logg everything looks fine except a section named "Enabling NAT rules..." that says failed any suggestions????
Never played much with wifi tethering but usb tethering works. I used foxfi free, however they cut off at bout 45 mb then ya need to restart it. Tried a few others with lil success so far. Gota like AIOs tethering policy, or lack of.

Yes I did install the drivers manually I was having trouble at first for some reason it would get stuck on on of the processes but finally got it. I the only thing is that im having toruble trying to tethering i dont know why have not tried the usb method might try that dont know if i would be abel to used it with my playstaion.. thats the main reason i was trying to tether..
Any was I was reading that that the erros message that it gave me in my show log.. (Enabling NAT rules... Failed) had something to do with the kernel not supporting wifi tether that i would have to flash a different kernel in the phone any suggestions??

Yeah No problem. Let me know if you get the the wifi tether to work im going to keep messing around with it for a lil bit see if i can get anything worked out.. hopefully I can start tethering soon.. ONly if i could find a kernel that will be compatible with the this phone..

Ok, just so I read the thread correctly, the one click root site DID work for getting root, but the other referenced thread talking about rooting the blade has not been proven to work on the 995/overture, correct?
One click pops up frequently in my searches for root, but I thought it involved downloading a windows app and paying $30 to some unknown website. If that is true then I'll wait till another method is posted. I won't risk running an app unless I know what it is really doing to both my phone and my PC. And I am certainly not forking out $30 for it.
It seems risky and, well, not in the spirit of xda... I mean isn't it more about learning how it all works, discovering how to do it on your own, and working with fellow xda'ers to develop and vet a good (transparent) process for root?
If one click works well and you don't mind the cost and not knowing what their software is really doing, then that's ok. There's no right or wrong here in my opinion.
I just don't see it as being as much fun or as safe a way to get to root...

Well then I guess the reviews on their forum were incorrect then... When I looked thru their blog there were comments stating it asked for $$ at some point. Aside from that there were tons of complaints about unsupported phones... And maybe one or two happy posts out of 20 bad ones.
I'll give it a closer look then. I know I can sandbox the application in a VM, so maybe I can get a backup of the phone before I play with it w/o using clockwork as well.

Also, if you read the legalese when installing it, it clearly states the payment for service must be made to a canadian recovery company, and that you release all rights, etc etc. I did notice any legalese on privacy was missing, which I expected to see. There is a license tab with a space for activation codes as well. (i.e. it's definitely a paid app, but trying to find out how much is difficult, its not on their website anywhere.)
And I can verify the oneclickroot tries to see the device (goes thru identify, validate, download, install), but always throws up a "Please confirm your device is connected - install ADB manually" box. ADB Driver links bounce you to the ZTE news page that has a link for an older "ZTE 3G adb driver download" which gives you a file - "ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC.rar". And after installing that, I still don't have any luck getting the solution to work.
I suspect those first few "steps" in oneclick root are bogus as well, because if you don't have any phone connected and start the process, it still goes through the "Identify, validate, download, install" steps.

HUH thats wierd i got mine to work no problem and never asked for no payment nothing.. The only thing that i cant get to work is the wifi tether still having problem there any suggestiongs..

There may be an app blocking mobile hotspot like tmobile puts on there phones. Seems unlikely since AIO told me they had no problems with tethering but never know. Pick up an uninstaller from the play store an look through all the apps.
Only other suggestion i can think of right now is trying the different wifi tethering apps available.

Only other suggestion i can think of right now is trying the different wifi tethering apps available.

Thanks NomadSpin im going to try the uninstaller but what kind of app. would I be looking for that would block the wifi tether??
alright so im fairly new at working with samsungs...and im trying to root the samsung galaxy s7 edge the att variant. g935aucs8crj2 kernel version 3.18.71-14306562 running android 8.0.0 and samsung experience version 9.0 build number r16nw.g935aucs8crj2 and using the security patch fom october 2018
my issues are as follows..i cannot seem to get this device rooted. much less flashed with a custom rom or even get twrp to even run on this phone. i have did a factory reset and to no avail it still says "package installer has stopped" clock work mod wont run and i have literally TRIED to follow video after video of what to do. i understand that this is kind of a broad subject here but can someone give me a complete guide...or something of what to do to make any sort of progress.. ive always been great with computers but phones are a complete new road to me. and i would love to hear some feedback from someone who knows what theyre doing. im pretty well versed in the language as ive done countless..........COUNTLESS hours of research with nothing happening for me. thanks guys i appreciate it and thanks for letting me vent so i dont throw my laptop across the living room.
Quick preamble note: This is a long read, but it's because it's been a long time since I touched a V30. So it's hard for me to put a TLDR synopsis at the bottom like I would normally do.
Hey all. It's been a while since Ive been in this part of the cell-iverse and I'm hoping you current V30 users can catch me up , please and thanks!
So a few days ago, one of my old posts in here got a little traction and it made me nostalgic, so I busted out the old v30 and started playing around with it. And if it were still 3 years ago, I could do no wrong to my trusty V30. Brick it? NBD! I can fix it... But a pandemic and few phones later I'm rusty and behind with all things Root / Magisk etc and even having a tough time remembering why I installed X module or disabled Y module and so on.
Maybe you're wondering, why bother messing with your old device? Well I had forgotten how many features Google had blocked between ol Android 8 and 13, and it turns out I really missed some of those and want to mess around with them. But, since updating or installing anything current could mean death for my 30, I'm hoping I can post my current Magisk config here and some kind folks will alert me as to what I should and shouldn't do / update / upgrade.

Sprint (not currently connected to any network, and disabled anything I could think of to avoid getting hit by a TMo or Google Update)

If anyone has a suggestion for what I need to disable to be sure it won't shadily get nerfed by Google, please let me know (auto updates/ota updates should be disabled still, but only by whatever standard we were using 3 years ago)
So first biggie is: Can I update Magisk? Currently I'm running 23.0 and its recommending an update to 25.2
Anyone know if this is going to be a compatibility issue?
As it stands, my Magisk Hide ft. seems to be working for everything i had it set up before. But I did install an old copy of an old APK and hide it, and Play is kinda having a fit about it and sending me notifications even after hiding it. (I dont think Im allowed to use the name of the app here, so I guess all I can say is Google has always tried to ban it and it's the same version as before but now they can see its installed somehow)
Ok, so let's talk modules....
Currently only looking at one possible update. That's for the dialer framework for the Google Phone. Now I know Google has opened up availability to their dialer to most phones now, maybe all of them. But I don't know if it's backwards compatible all the way to 8. I also don't know if updating the dialer framework will actually make it work. So any advice there is welcome.

Seems to be working fine. Or at least not causing an issue. I haven't run any log cats yet though. (Prob should , will do soon)
Anxious V30 v324 / Disabled.
I do remember I loved her mods that she was putting out. And then I remember a bunch of people giving her a hard time and she stopped releasing them which was a shame. But I don't remember why I disabled it so for now it's staying disabled unless someone has some info for me.
App systemizer (terminal emulator) / enabled
Seems to be running fine, but I completely forget how to actually use it and I'm going to have to read up on that again. But if anyone has any notes for me like that it doesn't work anymore please feel free to give me a heads up.

Okay well I just realized there's like 19 more of these and this is already so long I don't know if anyone's going to care to read it LOL... So I'm just going to stop here for now and see if this post gets any kind of traction or if anyone has any kind of insight before I take the time of writing out the rest of these. Or at least wait to edit this till I'm on a computer and not just my phone. But a definitely need some info on things like APP OPS, which is no longer working for me, & things like Riru & SUI which I just read up on a little but am not sure will work on OS 8.
But for now any insights anybody has are welcome. Would love to hear from any of you that have been active in the last few years to now.
Personal Throwback Note: I love that all of my wifi scanners actually work now, I can review and diagnose my own network and the apps on my own phone and what their sending and where.. And that I can share files, cast, beam, and just about send anything anywhere I want, like the old days.
It's amazing how badly Google nerfed all of these things since back then.

Generally speaking, I would recommend moving to the latest US998 ROM, as it seems to be the most cross-compatible and capable. UNLESS you're going to put it on a carrier, like VZW, in which case you would want the VZW ROM instead, to allow VOLTE/VOWIFI to work. I think other carriers may not be as tricky about these, which is why US998 should work, but I'm not sure myself (I'm a VZW MVNO user).
As for Magisk, the last I heard was that you can update it after you've installed it. In other words, you can't install newer versions via TWRP, but if you install 18.x (whichever it was - I forget, check the WTF thread) then you can let the Android manager update it. Last I think I did was to 22 or something. Basically, give it a try and see what happens - worst case, drop back into TWRP, use the Magisk remover, and then reinstall the old 18.x... it should recover with that.
I'm not sure of modules. I didn't use too many... I found Magisk modules to cause lots of problems, so I stopped using them. That may be why you disabled Anxious' module... because it's out of date now anyway.
I'm curious, what are you "missing" from the newer Android versions? I'm curious... because I don't mind it much. Things have moved. Some things have been "automated"... but that happens with every OS... change is part of the game.

Thank you for the info! This will definitely give me a starting point Tomorrow as I will be attempting to reload my most recent back up and get back up and running. (Yes, I have been smited by the update gods)
I was planning to keep it as a network testing device and not activate on a carrier. But that was a shortlived dream.
As for what's missing since the older versions, I can only give vague examples due to my own level of non-expertise in these areas... But the short answer is connections, ports and just overall access and compatibility within the devices itself and with other products. My current device (Samsung s22 ultra) can barely cast to my tv. While my V30 when it was working well, could basically cast or connect to any device in my home. Plus full dlna access. I could also use the old versions of my network apps to see every piece of data coming and going on my network. (This is possible today with apps that do so by acting as a VPN, but back in 2019 it was accessable by any app that could put out a "get" command). And there was more customizable settings for things like GPS (remember when we could choose between 3 different versions of location access?)
I should also say that I prob misspoke by blaming the os versions. After having my V30 nerfed out of root in under 2 hrs of usage, I'm now pretty sure the features I was referring to have been removed with security updates and not full os updates.
I tried, unsuccessfully, to block play services from installing a 550mb "security "update that they claimed was going to ensure my VOLTE would work after January 1st 2022. (Even though my VOLTE was already enabled and working fine as far back as 2019). I took a screenshot that I need to get off the device before re flash. I was trying to pull the update file so I could dig through it, but not install. Things went poorly lol.
But anyway, stay tuned, as I know that was a half ass answer and poor explanation, but when I have some time tomorrow, I'm going to reply here with a full write up on the differences, screenshots, and whatever else I can come up with.
I'm sure this will prob only be interesting to about 4 of us, so this is mostly going to be for my own curiosity and I don't expect to really achieve much, but please feel free to jump in with any questions or comments or point out anything I get wrong, as I'm happy to have company on my tinkering through tech time journey.
I have an S10+ now... and I'm quite happy with it. The key is that I gave up root to be on this... I had root on the V30. I know many complain about losing root, and I get it... I'd certainly prefer to have it. However, fact is, I really don't miss it. Yes, things are different without root, but you can do most things without it. But, that's just my take on it...
Without a carrier, I'd say do US998. I forgot to mention, I would recommend sticking to a non-Pie version of the OS as well. Pie was released on these phones, but it wasn't reliable from what I heard. I never went to it, and stuck with Oreo. The version numbers would be 20-ish for Oreo, and 30-ish for Pie. I did see that the US998 might be a bit better on Pie, but I knew VS996 (VZW ROM) was not great, which is why I stayed off it.
Yes, various things were removed with app updates and Google services updates. For example, call recording is being blocked these days, from what I've been reading. That's partly why I have not updated my S10+ either... it's on Android 11. I still use the same old app I used ages ago on my V30 and it works great, so why bother, you know?
I expect OTA OS updates are gone... and being off a carrier you won't get them anyway. So I don't think you need to worry about that specifically, but app updates will happen, of course... potentially. Just remember that with root you can uninstall the update and push an older version (from APKpure, for example) so I'm not sure I'd worry about that so much?

I'm still running Magisk 22.1 on mine. You only really need to update Magisk if you're using a newer Android version. I only run three modules: ACC, Systemless Hosts and Systemless TZData.
On the Google side, disable Play Store and uninstall all Google Play Services updates. Then run Aurora Store as its replacement. That way, Play Store will not auto-update Play Services.

I'm curious what carrier do you use, where you are getting VoWIFI and VoLTE on stock US998 firmware? Originally T-mobile (and their MVNOs) allowed VoWIFI on US998, but with carrier system updates post-Sprint merger that reportedly went away. First with newer SIM cards and then even for those who stubbornly stayed on older SIM cards, by carrier side server changes.

I hate being the guy that doesn't follow through with his plans/posts, but I definitely overestimated my free time around this time of year (I work in the entertainment industry and in the tech industry simultaneously, so end of year is a bit double down crazy for me) So I still haven't had a chance to boot up my V30 again since that first day I used it and lost root (somehow OTA) in a matter of hours.
But that's said, all of this has created a new interest for me, and it will prob turn into a post elsewhere in the forum down the road, but for now I'll expand on it here since it's mildly related and stemmed from my curiosity about features being lost over time...
I've been noticing, almost daily, that Google is restricting more and more parts of the Android OS. Curious if the rest of you have noticed this as well.
On my current device, an update from this past week, restricted general access to the Android > Data folder.
Now I'm all for better security on our devices, but a change that big out of the blue has major effects on the average user.
My personal example: an app I use for songs and separate app that I use for video, both got firewalled with this change. They can both still operate and save files to their default locations inside the data folder. But now I cannot reach it through a file manager, or the app I was using to sort media on my device. That app now cannot see any media that isn't in the general download, music, video, or documents folders.
But the real problem is neither can my video or audio players.
The newest security does allow the "Data" folders to be accessed when done so through a computer. But what a hassle that is. Especially if you're like me and have always cheaped out and bought the smaller storage option devices. Back when expandle storage worked properly that was an easy fix, and after that and until now its always been fairly easy to push excess files to a cloud drive. But with this new change, making files invisible to file managers, you can literally fill your whole phone with media without realizing it's hidden somewhere and the only way to find what's taking up space now is to connect to a computer, or to open individual apps and check their own defined storage. App by app. Ughh.
I know this complaining is a bit off topic, but TBH I wouldn't even know where to start a post about general annoyances with over zealous security policies. I'm sure some of the devs here will be posting about it in their app threads soon if not already. And I have already seen a couple apps on my device update with half way work arounds to combat these changes. But, if this is the direction things are going, it's only a matter of time before any loophole is closed and that's no longer an option for devs. Personally, I'm planning to root my current device as soon as I have an hour or two, and will prob only be purchasing devices I know can be rooted going forward. I just refuse to wait around while the growing pains associated with this big of a change ripple through each app and developer, and everyone finally sorts out their stuff.
This is just another example of Google cutting off access to parts of the device I paid for and was using, ota, with no choice in the matter.
I know I prob sound like a lunatic, but it's lunacy to me how often and how many of these kind of changes have happened in just the last few months, especially after just starting this thread and airing out similar concerns.
And don't even get me started on the whole "tv play store app policies" vs "regular app store apps policies" and all the changes happening there (they crippled live channels + and I now have to purchase some apps twice to use it on my phone & tv!?!?)
(Btw if anyone, member or mod, has a suggestion on where I can start a thread about this just to discuss it, please let me know. As this issue is spreading and even if it hasn't been noticed by everyone yet, it's sure to affect everyone in some way soon. I.e. apps, particularly, paid apps, that no longer function and essentially won't be able to function. Google just made 1000s of apps worthless, with no recourse for the developers or the users who paid their hard earned money for them).
Interesting side note: I did find a hidden developer menu on my current samsung device that grants access to some of what was taken away from "wif related" apps. I had assumed the functionality was removed altogether but then was surprised to see the OS can still pull up a lot of what was banned from apps. For anyone interested, I'll be making a post on the Samsung forum later and will post an updated link to it here.
