[Q] Weird Unknown Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I badly need some helping hand on my device. Here is the scenario.
Im currently on Omega LS8 version with its default PHilz kernel when a weird thing happened on my SGS2.
After installing muzy (instagram like software) the phone begins to lose its power with 50% charge left. LCD flickers and suddenly blackout. I thought it was just deadbatt so I recharged back again my phone. After gaining 80% I turned on the phone and keeps on bootlooping. What I did is restore my backup. To my surprise it also keeps on bootlooping. What I did is change and clean the kernel and do fresh installation. It did boot and I think its ok now. I clean kernel again and change to Siyah 6.5. I tried restoring my backup it did restored, but after sometime the LCD flicker again and blackout again even on 90% charge, so I charged it again to 100%. After booting up it looks fine but when I restarted the phone on 90% charge when it rebooted it suddenly drops to 1% batt charge. I charged it again to 100% now with the phone on. After reaching 100% I observed the phone and use it normally, after using it for some hours, playing, viewing surfing. The battery drops at the normal rate without that sudden blackout. I cant seem to figure out what is going on.
My assumption is that maybe my battery is already damage that cause the sudden blackout, but if it does why during my observation it doesnt blackout and drops normally as before. What am I missing here is there someone who experienced the same? I doubt its ROM or Kernel related.???
Thanks in advance

Post your battery details, maybe fuel gauge went crazy.
Start thinking about getting a new battery tho.

Here is the screenshot. See the cut in the right side that is the sudden blackout. Would that be already a sign o damage battery?

Heres another screenshot after a sudden blackout again.

Did you try to recalibrate your battery? Charge it to 100%, unplug, pull your battery, put it in again and charge it to 100% again.
You probably did this already, but you didn't mention it. If that doesn't help, then my guess is that you need a new battery.

Ya sorry I forgot to mention that but I did recalibrate it so many times. Then I guess this is faulty battery. Any same issue are welcome. Thanks

please install bbs and upload the log

Logcat might be handy as well.

Ok attached is the logcat guys. Hope someone can interpret it

Probably so. Try to use a different battery for a full day and see if this issue stops. Make sure that your battery is authentic Samsung made, and that it isn't swollen or damaged.

It looks to me like your battery needs proper calibration, or maybe the battery stats file was not wipe off, and try using another battery as it may be the battery itself giving problems~

Battery Issues

My SGP5 battery has been wacky since day one. First few days I didn't think it would charge past 80%, but I found if you charged it overnight it would hit 100% (that's after an 8 hour charge to 80%).
Today it showed 100% all day. I booted it and now shows 30%. The settings battery status does not show actual time on the lower scale. Like I said I was at 100% all day, and the chart goes up to a 100% peak, but doesn't flatten or go down.... as if the battery clock stopped (not there is such a thing).
Can't do a battery pull... could rooting solve this issue? At least you can do a calibration with root. I just don't want to root if this will be fixed in an update. But I really don't like not really knowing how much battery is left.
I have a similar issue. It seems random- I use it all the time and literally 1/2 of the overnight charges I put it through it gets to either 80% or 100%. What I've noticed is that even when it says 80%, it still performed as if it was fully charged.
I rooted my device a few days after I got it and I honestly didn't notice the issue until after I rooted my device. So it may be different for you.
I'm not rooted. Have you tried something like: http://www.appbrain.com/app/battery-calibration/com.nema.batterycalibration or manual calibration deleting the battery stat file? I'll gladly root if it solves this problem.

To show how squirrely battery charging is, I monitored with Battery Monitor Widget and looks like this, one charge overnight without unplugging:
(each grid line is 1 hour, little over 1 day shown, screen was NOT on during charging)

Sudden heavy battery usage, any ideas?

I flashed an aosp ROM which was very unstable and so went back to the Sensation ROM I was using prior to the aosp ROM and all has been well since apart from a sudden drop in battery roughly 3 hours after flashing. I've attached a screen cap. of the battery usage screen shortly after it occurred, should it help anyone identify the problem.

Thanks.
I had the same problem just yesterday, it's due to the fact that when you're flashing your ROMS your battery got miscalibrated. It's a simple thing to fix just follow the instructions from this app on the Play Store (New Market for those of you without the update).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
Did you reboot the phone in this 3 hours? Coz I see this big step, which is happening when you reboot in recovery or flash something. You need to charge you phone and calibrate you battery

I rebooted after I'd configure the launcher as it was before I tried the aosp rom, but didn't enter recovery or flash anything.
I'll configure the battery and hope it doesn't happen, just wondering if anyone has an idea what caused it?
The exact thing happened to me. When you flashed your phone at a certain battery percentage (lets say 50%) Your new ROM assumes that 50% is the maximum capacity. Therefore, when you rebooted your phone it simply corrected the misreading. Calibrating your battery from the app I provided in my earlier post will delete the batter stats file in your phone and create a new one. Remember to use it when your battery is at 100%, then take your battery down to 0% and charge it back up to 100. I'm currently doing that process now after my phone jumped from 50% down to 20% after I rebooted yesterday.

It`s happening some times, you are not first and not last. Just calibrate you battery and will be fine. Good luck
Ok so I've downloaded the battery calibration app and currently charging my device however the app is displaying the same battery level as my phone.
Does this render the battery calibration a waste of time or is it to be expected?

i thought a manual battery calibration on a i9100 is a waste of time . They didnt calculate it like HTC does. Somebody explained me that this mobile got another System for that but i just forgot what for...
Mine always does this when flashing and shows the sudden drop in battery. Once you charge it back up it should be fine again I'm sure. It always is for me
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Yep. You are 100% correct
Calibration apps do absolutely nothing except make you a few bucks poorer if you pay for them :-|
The best thing you can do is charge to 100%, pull the battery for a minute, and put it back in.
Also Ex Tweaks is capable of resetting the fuel gauge chip in genuine Samsung batteries should you be experiencing fuel alerted wakelocks on CM9 or similar.

Phone not switching on: Battery and phone very hot

Just woke up and my phone is boiling, especially touchscreen and battery. Its not switching on, I left it on charge like I do every night.
Just to let you guts know, never flashed or rooted my s2. Its still on 2.3.4 with kernel 2.6.35
Turn the phone off remove battery and let it go cold .
Then connect to Samsung charger and see what happens .
Problems
One factory reset after backing up data .
Two try a another/new battery
Three return to service .
jje
Try with another battery, I'm pretty sure that that will help

We've had it happen when a app has "hanged" and not closed on Gingerbread. Haven't had it happen yet on ICS *touch wood* .. phone gets hot and huge battery drain quickly.. even while on charge.
Maybe a recent app you have installed has caused the hang?
leaving your battery on charge overnight is NOT the problem
I posted this few days ago, I'm having another problem now, unsure if its linked to this. But occasionally when phone on charge, I'm getting a pop up notification saying 'battery paused, temperature too low or hot'
This happens regardless of the battery or charger. I've taken screen shots of they help. Battery temp is 67 with condition over over heating. How do I solve this

Bump, anyone?
Have you a bumper on the phone or other case protection ?
Depends on which battery I use, if its the official 2000 mah battery then I use a cheap £1 mesh case. If its the standard battery then I don't use any. The extended battery is now charging.
A friend with a phone shop told me to warm the batteries up before putting them on charge and to my surprise its worked, weird since batteries were saying over heating

battery always stuck at charnging

i have a evo 3D shooter, brought it 2nd hand and have a little problem while charging the phone
it always stuck at 99% after 2 hour charging(phone off) , after i check it using battery info app.It always have slow charge rate after it hit 99% on 14ma(charging rate )
today after charging 2 hour 15 minutes on phone off it stuck at 80% and after i take off the battery than charge it again in 1 minute it become 99% but stuck at slow rate charge
after i charged the phone to 100% 4299mv(battery info app) i calibrate it using battery calibration
my question is how much mv when the battery is full?
the battery water indicator is red but i have check the phone and there is no indication of water damage on the phone , is moisture can cause that?

That's normal for this phone. I can leave mine on the charger for hours and still be stuck at 99%.

It could be anything, steam, mist, humidity. But if that indicator went red, there was enough moisture around the battery to do it. So either your battery is bad and causing the problems, or something in the phone is messed up.

[Q] Crazy battery drain

Are others having this? i mean i go through a full battery about twice a day.... I cant figure out what is draining it so bad. i have used WLD, greenify, and bootmanager to try to figure it out..... None of my apps are ever on the battery list, and screen is around 50% usually with android system and android OS always being up the list. I always thought it was my bad signal strength at work but i had two weeks off and my phone NEVER lasted even close to a day.
I have factory reset once but loaded my same apps backup.
I heard someone else mention that the sprint has this weird battery drain that is explainable and was wondering if others see that also.
I am on the search for a 6000+ mah battery i know it will have a replacement back plate but i don't want the whole case thing like the 9000 zero lemon.
Sounds like kernel wakelock
As of the last two days i have also been experiencing much faster battery drain. Have had the phone since launch and never had this problem.
I do not use the device in excess. Very few if any phone calls per day, some texting and gmail, occasional skim of xda, huffpo, phandroid apps and very light Twitter use if bored and not near the computer.
Battery has dipped 5% since writing this post...that's all of 1-2 minutes in use.
Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA Free mobile app
That's not normal for a Sprint LG G3. A couple of questions:
Have you looked at the battery stats page to see what app(s) are using the most battery? I'd suggest taking a screen shot of that page and posting it here.
Have you tried rebooting the phone? If there's an app or process running out of control that will often clear it up.
Are you rooted? If so, install better battery stats so we can get a better look at what's eating the battery.
Finally, you might want to take a look at this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...android-system-eating-your-battery-check.html
While it's unlikely you have the same problem I did, the tools and techniques I used to debug it might be useful for you.
Gonna wait for some custom roms to see if the problem just goes away.

Dude the battery app should show you what is causing it. Something has gone rouge!!! I just had my weather app running in the background using GPS for 5 hours, yeah my battery went way down. Freeze some BS apps. I routinely get 30 hrs plus on a single charge. Not the phone itself something you are using is causingi it.
As requested, my craptastic battery info. Brightness was 83.
