My mods - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am pretty pleased with myself, and although none of the ideas are really that original (others have done similar things... SD card thing was done on a Note I, but not quite so elegantly in my opinion), I like how they all came together. I'm sorry for the poor quality pics... family is asleep and I cannot access a decent camera so these came from my PS Vita which is more accessible
Using a Otterbox case I've got a phone with a fairly long battery life and a full size SD slot which is currently supporting a 128gb Kingston SDXC card. It did require some cutting with a dremel, but when the case is on there is very difficult to detect the mods visually. Now there is a slight bump where the battery lies, but it doesn't overly deform the case and the SD card is undetectable. Of course it is heavier, but it is worth the weight to me as my cell coverage at work is nonexistent and the extra battery actually allows me to make it through a 12 hour shift with battery life at the end of the day. Now doing this required my cutting through the portion of the case where the NFC antenna is located, thus no NFC commo right now. For me this is no huge loss as it's something I never use though. Your mileage may vary with this though

Jesus that's a right setup. I've seen it before, but like you said not quite so elegantly.

Otterbox seems to be using a different polymer for the rubber covering now... It's more... firm (best word I can think of)... Additionally, I cut the original backing tight enough that it is very difficult to remove the battery with that in place. In any case the battery isn't going anywhere.

Well, I know what my next project will be! I am going to do the battery mod with an Otterbox I just traded for. So, its not like I have to pay the $50 for the case. And I already have the dremel... so the only thing i need to buy is the battery. I see that these Mugen batteries are pushing 100 dollars on the bay... would any 6500 mah battery be good enough for very long battery life?

Anker battery is just as good and it's way cheaper than mugen. It has solid reviews on it and I'm actually using and I am very satisfied with it. I actually did the Otterbox mod myself (sans sd mod) and I love it!
Oh, btw, the Anker battery only costs $16 (when I purchased it about 6 weeks ago)!

Hyperion 3500mAh Extended Battery + Cover - Updated - Pics

I just ordered one of these. Has anyone had any experience with this one? The other Hyperion batteries seem to work fine and people are happy with them.
It is $19.99 on Amazon right now

Update:
This battery does NOT cause boot loops. Also NFC is not supported with this battery either.
Here are some pictures of the battery on the phone.

It takes 5 fully charges/discharges to properly calibrate. So that means at least a whole week.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
I have really only used it for like 2 days and when I was it was really heavy usage. As stated before, it does take a few days to properly calibrate the battery so it probably will last much more than I have been experiencing.
Since I do not have a case that works with the battery on I don't feel comfortable using it during work/school but I will be going on vacation trip to SC which is why I bought the battery.
Here was my first day:
The screen on time is all from playing games:
Thanks, Well I really don't know if get one of those or this one, on amazon search for B002MQUYU6
I want the hyperion because its 3500, but don't know if there is any case that will fit, I think will be harder to get something that fits with that shape..
on the "unbranded batt"I guess will be much easier to get a case.. What do you guys think ??

I'll be getting the SGP Neo Hybrid Ex case which will most likely fit.
It can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/SGP-Samsung-G...=A2SFKRF5TPZMT5&ie=UTF8&qid=1324475378&sr=1-6
Ok I bite the bullet, mine will arrive tomorrow, (I love amazon prime). And this weekend I will goto Vegas.. So, that would work to calibrate the battery ..
BTW: I found another case that might fit. Search on ebay for Taurus Galaxy Case... A bit expensive i think, but it looks nice
Sweet have been waiting for the extended battery thanks op
I received the battery..my initial impressions:
I thought it would feel cheaper than what it actually is, to my surprise the batt feels nice, the backcover sits like the original, but the cover it really feels cheap.
Also the added weight to the phone is really noticeable, but at the same time is welcome.
Something I notice is that sticker of the battery place the + a - on the wrong leads, and this battery runs a bit hotter than the stock one.
Right now is charging and lets see how good it's !!
Any updates?

Chipped s pen already

Noticed my s pen is chipped. Not the part that you pull out on but the side that's flush with the phone. Anyone else have a pen that's chipping? Also would the store trade it for another since I just got it from the store on release day or do I need to contact Samsung?

good luck, you might be able to get it exchanged since you haven't had it 2 weeks. Most likely they'll throw out the "it doesn't effect the performance of the device" excuse.
Nevermind the image didn't load for me before. Well that sucks man. Best of luck replacing it. Going to take extra special care now when handling the s pens.
Day 2 of owning my device, I somehow already chipped a very very small part of my screen. No idea how either
I have the same problem I have the vzw note 2 and the paint is chipping on the silver painted part of the pen but mine is chipping from pulling out the s pen its in the little crevis part ill take pic now ... Please advice me on if you were able to get Samsung or Verizon to replace orv what you did

My Spen has been chipped since after a week. The phone was built crappy IMO. Im careful with my stuff and my screen is scratched and there are a couple chips around the phone.

Im in the same boat I here ya! Samsung makes great products but cut cost on cheaper meterials I too have a small scratch on my screen and I was babying the crap out of it when I was cleaning with a micro fiber cloth my last 4 phones over the past 2 years had no screen protectors and rarely did I get a scratch and I was much rougher knowing in advance from other threads that the note 2 was using cheaper quality material to cut costs ... My question is why they're making billions not millions but billions ... It pisses me off ...I want a replacement pen I know the scratch on the screen is so small that a screen protector will hide it

is this a common issue? I'm considering getting either this phone or the DNA, and build quality is kind of a concern with the Samsung stuff. I hope this isn't indicative of sammy's overall quality here.

The plastic for the SPen is rather soft. So yes it is an issue, but it doesn't affect performance at all, and the phone itself doesn't have the problem.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I didn't notice it until I read this thread. Slight chipping here as well.
Wow guys. Really? You guys are whining over some microscopic paint chip? Be glad that's the extent of your problems with this phone. Every phone is going to have its problems. Paint will naturally come off if suffers regular abrasion, either from sliding in and out of the phone or from us handling it. I'm just glad this phone doesn't have real problems like a poor radio or battery over heat.

Otterbox Commuter case

Just got mine yesterday. It feels slippery and big, lol. The volume rocker seems to respond well, the power button doesn't seem as easy to press. And the rear noti LED is covered, which is not a deal breaker for me however.
I need to give it some time I guess. Using the phone without a case this past week has made me fall in love with the feel of this phone. But i am also scared of dropping it so I will give it a few days.

AFAIK, the commuter series is meant to feel slippery so it can more easily slide in and out of your pocket. As for feeling big, that's probably just because it's a big phone.

I think the Commuter case has been notorious for hard/misaligned buttons. I suggest doing finger exercises. This has dual function. Helps strengthen your trigger finger. That's the one I use for the power.
If anyone has suggestions, I'd be willing to try them out honestly.

Anker 6400mah [Update Nov 15]

I havent seen a thread for this battery. If there is one please delete.
I ordered this battery on Nov 8 and recieved it today! After opening the package I installed it. It was at 58% upon install. I continued to charge it for approximately 5hrs untill it finally reached 100%. I then continued charging for another hour. I finally unplugged it and started using it as I always do. Let me tell you from 100% to 80% which im at now. Well here ill let the screenshot speak for itself! For $25.99 im a believer!
Update Nov 15: I have a white note 3. Anker doesnt make a white battery cover for the note 3, so I called Hyperion. I asked if I could purchase their white battery cover for the note 3. It looked identical to the Anker cover. The guy I spoke to said "Unfortunately we do not sell just the covers, but I can send you one at no charge!" I thanked him very much.
Well I recieved the package today and in it were 2 white battery covers. I removed the black one and replaced it with the white one. Perfect fit!

Awesome!! I now have 2 of them. My first order my battery cover was scratched up so I called to see if they could send me a new cover. They sent me a whole new package. Battery and cover!

I like the brand but I wish they can make a battery that I don't have to use to put the new door cover on

Free shipping from eBay, but isn't it odd that on eBay they show a picture of the replacement cover, but never mention that it is included in the description?
Please post pics of the battery with the back cover on the note 3. Thank you

Here you go.

My new battery door (after market)

I got it from ebay for about $8.00, and YES it does add some thickness. Feels nice and cold but it looks like aluminum cover sitting on top of regular one. Feels good to change litlle bit and it $8 it's not too much to spend

How easy is it to put on and remove? Will it get warped with repeated use?

Sure, http://www.ebay.com/itm/14115885092...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Do not expect anything perfect, it's cheap but good to change for the price.

Little bit harder than oem (to put it on, needs extra press for click) and for removing you will need to use something like pry tool (forget about using nails), this thing is holding firm

Don't know I just got it yesterday. It does look like aluminum frame is just attached to top regular door. It increases thickness but I don't use any cases right now (expecting one in next 2 days)
Does it affect your signal any? A lot of people have said the aluminum frames, bumper or all around cases, seem to affect their mobile reception. Was just wondering if it did that or not.

One more question, you put this over your regular battery door and not a wireless charging battery door? The reason I ask, I have the wireless charging battery door which makes the overall back a bit thicker and wondered if this would fit over this. Probably not but I thought I'd ask. Sorry for all the questions.
Neither. This comes attached to new door.

Ah okay....thanks for answering the questions! :good: It won't work for me as I love my wireless charging door and looking for something to go over it to protect my phone somewhat.
Not sure could this aluminum part be removed and attached (glued) to charging cover. Don't have one to try it

Anything is possible. I've seen so many DIY here on this forum, it spins my mind. I'm not quite that handy but it's definitely an idea I'd like to see someone else try

Could you please post a picture so we can see what you mean? Also, it would help to see if their design is moddable.
I will post some new pictures or maybe even a video over the weekend

nice! i was looking to replace my white back cover for something different.
Sorry, I have been busy but here are couple pictures that might give you idea about possible modding. I almost broke this thing trying to show you more, but decided to stop since I have no wireless charging cover to experiment with it. I used red marking so you can see where is "lower" black cover (aluminum is attached to it, don't know how - didn't remove more than on picture itself but pic 3 shows something like clips), 2nd picture is same door from inside
you have cute hands
it's a aluminum plate, so wireless charging is out.
quality looks good.
