[Q] Skydragon 1.1 issues - HTC Desire X

Big fan of the Skydragon ROM. :good:
The issues Im having are after the 1.1 update
I applied the update to fix (primarily) the gallery issue (as without it you cant view images in MMS messages)
The issue appears to be access to the SD card once the update has been applied (as well as the already acknowledged Gmail crash)
Both gallery and music are unable to access the external SD card, yet ES file explorer can.
I've tried to 'fix permissions' , and it seems to fix it temporarily, but after a reboot the issue returns.
Hope MaartenXDA can reproduce the issue and its an easy fix!
Cheers for the hard work..its really appreciated!

Okay, thanks for the report.
The fixing permissions should fix it even trough reboots. (In theory). But apparently it doesn't.
If you fix the permissions again, is the issue solved?

Send them and OTA with an init.d script to fix permissions in /system/etc/init.d. That should work...

Thanks. I've already been testing a set permissions script and it seems to work.
But @OP, is the issue solved after you set permissions?

Maarten..sorry for the late reply.
Im just doing a NAND backup and I`ll let you know in a little while. Ive just re-downloaded the OTA just in case something has changed/corrupted etc.
Cheers

Maarten,
unfortunately fix permissions isn't retained after a reboot.
on the plus side, when you do fix permissions, all issues I'm having, gmail, gallery and music are fixed.
cheers

Thanks, that's what I needed.
For now I'll just add an init.d script that will fix the permissions on boot. After that I'll look at the problem, it's possible the installation doesn't set the right permissions.

One suggestion, there are probably some problems inside updater-script, cause permissions are set while flashing. So I think it would be much better to recheck the updater-script than to build scripts to run on boot.

I know, that was my plan. But to keep the users happy while I'm checking the installation, I'll give them a fix first.

Thanks for looking at this. Speaking for myself, its no big thing having to manually set permissions when my phone reboots. Unless I'm flashing ROMs, it rarely reboots. If a permanent fix is simpler then perhaps just post the work-around on the ROM thread until it gets included in the next update.
If the init.d script is easy to apply, then I guess its a good way to as you say "keep the users happy ". We are quite a demanding lot aren't we
Top work...keep it up! Lots of ppl are liking this ROM.
cheers

Just applied the 1.2 update and although I can see there's a temp init.d fix, it hasn't worked on my DX.
Same as before, reboot in twrp, fix permissions and app good.
Haven't had a chance to check the other additions. So can't comment on those.
cheers

[Q] ClockworkMod Feature

Here's something i've always wondered about clockworkmod, what does the "fix permissions" do?
i've tried to google, and i've only seen threads about people having issues and how they should run the "fix permissions" in clockwork.
It fixes permissions, which sometimes fixes force closes.

permissions of what? I know it fixes permissions (otherwise they wouldn't call it "fix permissions"). And i know it can help w/ FC, but what permissions does it fix?

When you download your apps, it will tell what all information it will try to access, data services, phone calls etc. Fix permissions, sets this permissions back for those, so that they have access to all the info they need to perform correctly.
This was really needed for way back in the day with phones like the g1 where we would use a partition of our sd cards to store our apps to free memory. Not really needed now.

Modified CM Gapps for Nook Color running Honeycomb. V003 *Updated 2/15/11*

I modified the CM7 gapps file with some of the available fixes for those running Honeycomb on their Nook Colors.
Here's what's inside
- Installs the su files Chhaggerty posted found here to provide root access for apps like Root Explorer.
- Pushes the Cicada's wpa_supplicant fix that allows AdHoc Wifi support
- Install both "/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar" and "/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml." Both are needed to install the Twitter app for Android.
-Fixed FC Gallery.
Download: Latest copy: V003. http://www.mediafire.com/?mgo39i53n164x9z
- Changes: Reinstalls both Gmail and Google Maps 4.5.1
-Bugs: Unable to update to Maps 5.1. It installs, but FCs when opened.
Old Copies
V002. http://www.mediafire.com/?b2aa646k6he6h01
changes-Market fix.
Bugs:
-Uninstalls both Gmail and Google Maps.

Thanks a million for this one, I have my r/w permissions back in Root Explorer!! As I'm still a noob at all this I haven't been able to get adb working so this is a huge help with the HC build.
Thanks again!!
P.S. This also completely removed my gmaps as one other comment mentioned. I haven't checked to see if I can find it on the market however. As far as I'm concerned it's worth the trade though!!

In my post above I hadn't really spent much time with the nook after installing your file and wanted to report that it also removed gmail and borked the market. I tried to clear the cache, etc. with no luck so I just wiped the nook and went back to a clean install of the hc emmc v4.
Would you be able to put a version of this up that just has the scripts for the root access and the adhoc wifi? It would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks again.
Is anyone able to get Google Maps to locate via Wifi using these files?

Edit: Yup, gmail still broken from v1 and maps just FCs as well. If you flashed the first file you will have to wipe and start over.

Confirmed. I tried to download a copy from market and it just FCs. Sorry about that. I was able to get gmail working by pushing a back up copy of the gmail.apk into my /system/app folder. I try to work on a fix tonight.
Not sure all the permissions are 100% correct, but if you put all the files in a single location, this is the script I've been using to install them on SDCard based installs of Honeycomb v4.
EDIT: Removed script, new one is on Page 3.
so i already had maps installed and it doesn't work now. honestly don't know if it worked before. LOL. i didn't install it myself, so i never fired it up. anyway, tested it out and i get the following FC:
(process com.google.android.apps.maps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

any ideas?
My google search on the top right seems to be missing now.
edit: never mind i switched from landscape to portrait and it's there now but does not function
The wpa_supplicant file was causing an error for me. My wifi wouldn't turn on at all.
I deleted it and repushed it and it worked.

This worked great. The script ran with no errors or other problems. Gmail, talk and gallery all look good, but Maps is nowhere to be found, either on the Nook or in the market.
Any idea how I can pick it up? There's no maps APK that I can see anywhere on the device.
Like this, and appreciate the work, but out of my greedyness I shall ask for more; any chance that a modified build.prop or fix for not seeing apps (angrybirds, xplane, etc) could be included in an update?

[Fixed] Fix Permissions (With Rom Manager and Without)

Make no mistake, I do not condone the use of Rom Manager due to our neglect.
Still, it has its purposes. I have fixed the "Fix Permissions" function. Do NOT install the market version!
Install this one instead. It may not work with Rom Manager Premium license. (I can live with that).
This has only been tested with superclean.
RomManager.apk
Fr just the script (run via adb shell or terminal emulator)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/update-template/fxpms.zip
Install via clockwork, then run fxpms. Requires superuser permissions.

Ok stpiid question. Do I have to do all of this or just install the apk?
Either or, but not both. That would be silly.
That's what I thought. Thanks. And this will work in cwm also?
Thanks, does this include the battstat fix as well?
Can't get the apk to install.
Other forums show that you need to uninstall the market ROM Manager before installing this one. That's how I did, uninstall, then install through root explorer or super manager.
Thanks man works!

Worked like a charm, installed through astro. Great work as always adrynalyne.
when do you sleep man your a beast! thanks a ton!
Had to uninstall the liscence. Duh
What was wrong with it to begin with? I just ran it on my phone about an hour before seeing this post. Did it not do what it's supposed to do?
Anyone running Froyo had issues with it. It would run in 1 second which obviously is too fast. It was not fixing any permissions. Just acting like it was.
Will it still not work in clockworkmod? I flashed the zip and still couldn't run it. Runs in Rom manager t though
Sorry for being ignorant, but exactly what permissions is the permissions fix supposed to fix, and why would I need to apply such a fix?
Edit: Nevermind, was having a hard time finding this answer on Google, but I finally found it. Looks like it just simply reapplies all proper permissions to system app files to fix FC errors and such, presumably in the event that you are messing with the system files and the permissions get messed up on them. I'm guessing I'll never need this function unless I start manually changing system files around or something.

Doubtful, seeing as it's kind of hard to change permissions on something you've deleted.

Wouldn't deleting any system file like that affect the permissions on other apps, making it necessary to fix the permissions every time? Besides, the system rebuilds batterystats.bin from scratch immediately after it's been deleted.
Another Fascinating post by my XDA App
How on earth would deleting one file affect permissions on other files? That just doesn't happen. As for the file getting recreated, the OS should be smart enough to set the correct permissions on it.
The only time I can see this being necessary is if things don't work right after installing a new rom, or if you manually change apks or other system files. I've messed around with system files before, and never once had to fix any permissions, probably because I always took care to set the correct permissions manually when doing so.

I'm getting Sick of having to Pull the Battery and Wipe Cache, and Dalvik just to use my phone.... At least Ten times a day!
Anyone have a Fix? I'm out of Ideas!

The app dev has been working on fixing all the FC issues as their related to the sqlite database access whenever apps were requesting root access it was having issues with accessing its own database where it stored saved permissions. Not being able to access its own database was causing the FC issue.
He explains a lot of the bug trouble shooting on his web site: http://androidsu.com/
latest version on the market should have the majority of fixes. i would give that one a shot. go to market, install latest version and make sure to do the update su binary inside the latest version of the app.
personally, i just got rid of it and put the dev su binary from AOSP on until he has for sure fixed everything. not a very secure solution so i wouldn't recommend it for all, but for developing purposes, it saves me from having to deal with erroneous FC issues for now.
Sup pm man?? Hope all is good. A you could extract a su from a stable rom or a nand you made by using 7zip and install it. Or you could just try one of the super wipe zips around here and see if that works. Its weied though I've heard alot about su fc on a few members but I'm running steeleH rom and I've had not one fc.

Looks like he got it, updating SU through the app will give you 3.0.3 and it's working great again.
If anyone has trouble getting to where you can update it try wiping the data for Superuser first and then go to Superuser -> Menu -> Preferences -> Su binary... (tap to check for updates)
