[Q] Can My Phone Run? - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I read the porting thingy over the ubuntu wiki , it says that it uses cyanogenmod 10.1 as a base for Ubuntu OS, i want to know , my phone doesn't support CyanogenMod yet, can I port Ubuntu OS based on a stock ROM, or something like that??

We don't know asking a question like this is impossible to answer until someone actually tries porting it plus u didn't even list what phone u had

[Q] Porting Ubuntu Touch to Galaxy S3 GT-I9300

Hello mates, glad to see you in this thread, thanks for watching and helping.
***Searching for developers***
First of all I want to say that my english language is not very well, because I'm learning it now and it is not my native language.
OK, let's get it started. Few days ago I saw an Ubuntu Touch UI and I loved it. If you love it too, you can help me and all the "lovers" of Ubuntu Touch. In this thread I will collect all information, files and sources about Ubuntu Touch.
For now I have got some links and info about porting Ubuntu Touch to the other devices such as our SGS3 international. I know that there is an Ubuntu Touch version for Verizon Galaxy S3. So now we have a chance to get it to our device. I was reading our forum for more info about Ubuntu Touch versions for other devices. I know that there are a lot of threads with questions like "How do you think, will it be possible to port Ubuntu Touch to our GT-I9300?" or "Can someone port Ubuntu Touch for our GT-I9300?", but this thread is not just a words or requests, I really have some info and files for porting Ubuntu Touch to our GT-I9300, here they are:
– Official Ubuntu web site about porting Ubuntu Touch to other devices - there are a lot of information about porting and also there are some files, programs and documents.
– Here is the Ubuntu Touch version for Verizon SGS3 - I think someone will have a profit from learning their package. BUT DON'T FLASH IT TO OUR INTERNATIONAL GALAXY S3 or you will get a bricked device.
– Some info about porting CM - may be someone will need it.
– Home page of Ubuntu Touch - here you can find the Developer Preview.
You need the following things on your SGS3 to flash Ubuntu Touch:
– CyanogenMod 10.1
– Ubuntu Quantal (I'm sorry, don't know, what is it)
So I don't really good at programming and I want you to make a port for our device, I can be a beta-tester, also I can help with something more, if project will be started, port will be made and work stable, I will pay some money to the developer of this port.
Let's try it? :highfive:

My answer to this is:
It has really no sense to port Ubuntu touch to the I9300 as long as there isnt a proper CM10.1 Port.
CM10/10.1 is the main condition to make a smooth ubuntu touch possible.
Exynos Sources are the main condition for a good, stable and fluid CM10/10.1 (which we still haven't got from samsung )
So better try to contact samsung, flood them with requests for exynos sources and if you get them, not the crap around on internet and github, give it to the developers like codeworkx from CM and you'll see a progress.
Otherwise you can forget a fluid ubuntu touch.

There is a version that works here. But it's with many bugs and lot's of things that just doesn't work. It would be nice if someone complete working cm for gt-i9300

Resurrection Remix 4.4.4

Hi i hope i am posting this in the right place but i was just wondering if anyone could port the resurrection remix rom for this tablet, i tried reading up on how to compile the rom for any android device but not being a programmer i got completely confused when they started talking about cloning the files from github then also adding files for the device that i wanted to compile for, also this had to be done in linux. I've never used linux and github looks confusing. even if i had someone sitting next to me explaining it all i still think it would take me ages to get a grip with it all, so i was hoping that some one could port it for me if possible. i dont want the new lollipop version i just want the kitkat 4.4.4 one, if no one has the time, not possible or too much hard work then i understand, i just wish there was a complete idiots guide to compiling android roms for any device which went through every step with screen shots that way i might eventually work it out lol.
If i have posted this in the wrong place the please forgive me i didnt mean to offend anyone.

Becoming Android ROM developer

I am really confused! I went through a lot of threads and forums. Unfortunately i can't get some of the concepts....
Can someone give me a roadmap on how to get started with compiling android roms(not custom roms)
How do OEMs like Samsung, HTC compile their ROMs??? I mean where do they learn that the particular process should be done this way regarding Android firmware???
In Repo Sync, is it possible to pause and resume that huge download? If i want to reinstall linux, is it possible to backup that 30-40GB download???
I have Asus Fonepad 7 and has kernel sources here: http://www.asus.com/support/Download/28/7/0/7/K0zj5cW6VJEzTjQR/32/ My question is am i able to create stock Android ROMs like those in Nexus devices and fastboot images for flashing on to this device??? Also do x86 devices have a different way of compiling ROM???
I want to do things the original official way... Please help me, I am very eager to learn!!!
I would be more than happy if someone could help!!!

[UMI EMAX] Possible source code extraction from custom rom? {IDEA}

Okay, First of all, I know this is the incorrect place for a "development" thread, But I am currently unable to post in the correct area.. So here is the second best place.
I've had an idea. Since sadly I am gonna be giving back the Samsung Note 2 (Friend let me borrow it) I have to do something with the new Umi eMax I have.. Its a great potential phone but MEDIATEK wont freaking let us have the source code... So, Why not pull it off a rom? You can easily download something like ColorOS, Get the kernel, and extract the Source code, Am I not right?
I am wanting to do this because Umi has been sitting around barely doing jack trying to get the new 5.0 android up and running.. So installing CM 12.1 would be great!
This is probably totally impossible.. as I am a beginner at this kinda stuff, But, would this idea work or not?
I have the build.prop file if anyone wants to take a look at it.. Though we probably all know it runs off the MT6752.
So, Does anyone have any ideas? Or am I just getting completely over confident on this?
Trying to get 10 posts....

how do i port roms? (there are no good tuts)

Hi there i would like to port roms. I have SM-t113 and everyone has just left this tab. No one develops for it anymore. I would like to get another custom rom then the already lineage os 14.1 ported from SM-G360H or whatever. Is there actually a good toturial which teaches me from the start to end with no points missing? All i find on yt is people who teach it a bit then there are cuts which leave us confused or the things they are doing i cannot find in my rom. I m new to this stuff. Can someone either guide me because ik this is the only way i could get android 7 or above with a better rom then Lineage os 14.1 (whuich is laggy).
if thats not possible any good tuts which tell me how to build aosp rom? I like stock pixel type android but i havent expirienced it. If i find one i would immidately flash it on this device. Well either of these two. please help me
