VoIP - HTC Titan

I need to know what VoIP app really works with Windows Phone 7.x platform; I'm aware Skype is baked into WP8 devices but its still in beta and it seems to have as many problems as just about everything I've tried. I have no idea what the rave is with Viber; it will send a text message as good as Metro-Talk but its the voice side that never quite gets it right. Do we know if there is a VoIP app that either stands by itself or interfaces with Google Voice that works? Thank you!

Try Tango, on 3G or WiFi it works very well, no problems with sound, it can also make videocalls, but only from Tango to Tango.

I'm aware of what Tango can do and it works great; but what I'm looking for is software I can use that is not dependent on the person on the other end; there is always this catch that everybody has to use the exact same setup. I'm currently working with MetroTalk and GoChat but I now understand there quite a bit that goes into configuring Google Voice/Talk to make these 3rd party apps play nice with it particularly in regards to receiving phone calls through the system; I've had no problems using either software to call out or text; the phone starts when users call me.

Fring works awesome on my AP4 I love it and it allows for me to use my bluetooth headset for calls I have configured and tested all services (with the exception of twitter). It does have a strange hick-up in that it mutes my VOIP calls at the start, so manual adjustment is required, I also wish that I could group the services independently, but aside from a few little quirks, it is soo much better than skype ever was... it also allows for integrated phone call history, integrated dial-pad and chat.
Has anyone gotten SMS to work yet? one of my phone contacts is also in skype so it sets her default text messages to her skype account rather than via SMS.
I will play with it a bit more but it answers one of my biggest concerns about skype and it gets us working with bluetooth, as it should have been all along...
Thanks again and hope this helps...

Yes, it is annoying that bluetooth mutes when the call is made and answered... but hey, we got functional voice in skype, google talk etc. and even better Skype voice works over an EDGE connection without trouble. I am impressed.
However, the best quality calls are Fring to Fring calls.
I can't help you with the phone book integration, but maybe the fring fourm people can help.
Thanks for the post and for the tip on the application, I am sure that they will be improving upon the application in the future, I will continue to keep my eyes open for updates... If you have a link to an active user community for fring, let me know.
In the interim, I fully agree and am impressed with FRING

Just a quick update, I have just been trying out the Full rom from Irus and it runs skype with no problems. As irus's rom is WM 6.1 it would indicate that the compatibility problem is not with WM 6.1 but with something else in AP 4.0.

Jay
Jay, thanks for the great news, please keep us posted on your progress
from what pk explained to me... the roms that run skype are just ports of 6.1 not full 6.1
ap4 is a full 6.1 rom therefor it wont work
skype is incompatible with 6.1
There are known compatibility issues with skype and pk addressed this a few times.Check the ap4 thread by pawel.
edit: deactivate htc home and/or install the htc home from addond.Home is a major resource hog.

Vlingo app

anybody have tried this app? please share your experience.
tried it, like the features, but it does not work with better keyboard so unfortunately, I continue to hope for a backport of voice actions
Great app, provided me with hours of fun, once you know all the commands can work very well as long as you speak clearly.
When you dont speak so clearly some of the stuff it comes up with is brilliant!!!
Only really works very well in quiet backgrounds.
I think it works great. I've set it up with tasker to start the in-car app whenever i plug in a headset with mic.
I like it and it works nice even knowing that english is not my first language but i think it should support more languages.
EDIT: i just read that there is a spanish beta on BB...
I wish i could say love it but heres the thing....whenever i try to text my girlfriend, i get a window with add recipient on top and the text box at the bottom with no option to send....
vlingo registers my gf and gives me the option to click on her phone number but thats about it...help?
Does anyone know how I can get this app to automatically start when connected via bluetooth headset? Well it's a car navigation system but it should still work the same. That option doesn't seem to work for me.

Doesn't seem to be the case for me, I work in a noisy factory and it actually works better than when I'm in a quiet surrounding, weird because any other app using voice recoqnition doesn't work at all. I am truly impressed with this app.
On a side note... Iphone fanboys at work installed the "free" Vlingo app after they saw mine working, when they went to send the text they were informed that to use the texting feature it was $6.99. Ha Ha apple strikes again.
Is this app working 100% for you guys?
Works OK, problem I find is that it needs to connect to the Vlingo servers (via wifi or data) to check what you're saying before actually typing into text. So I stopped using it because of the charges I'm incurring.
Too bad it won't run off the SD card.
Vlingo Rocks! ***** Thumb's Up
I'm in Transportation and there is no better app when I am on the road. FREE and LOADED with useful features beta car mode is fantastic! As long as music is at reasonably low level and I speak loud and clear; it gets every word. Bluetooth settings are there, but I believe I need Android 2.2 or 2.3 on my X10 to use bluetooth as voice command mic. Other than that, it is a winner like Swype!
im having trouble with vlingo, it doesnt follow my instructions

Apps like SIPDROID to use with GOOGLE VOICE

Are there any other apps like sipdroid which i can use to make calls through google voice...because with sipdroid its kinda hard for the other person to hear me and the it takes long for the other person to hear me.
Thanks
I use grooveIP , its probably the best app for voip with google voice, it costs five bucks but if you search hard enough on google you could find your self a copy.

There are a lot of guides available that explain how to get sipdroid to work with google voice, typically using 2 sip providers and a forwarding app. I suggest you search internet. GrooveIP is the only simple solution available.
Is there any easy workaround that will allow people outside the U.S. to make purchases from the Amazon Appstore? Amazon currently has GrooVe IP for $1.99.
Sipbri and 3cxsoftphone.
If you get this configured correct and if you are lucky you should be able to make and recieve calls. Except I think you may need a custom rom as I had the stock and it seemed that any voip didn't work for me. Just got a silent call didn't hear anything and they didn't either. If you have gingerbread with a custom rom you don't need voip software as it has it built in. Just I haven't ever got the receiving calls working maybe someone else would have better luck.

SIP Client/Voip on Lumia

Hi All,
I am just 2days away from ordering my Lumia and I do a check to find my essential apps I used on my android phones.
One BIG app that I rely upon is a SIP client to make voip calls. This is really a deal breaker for me because I call upto 30mins a day internationally and cannot spend a fortune on it. I looked up everywhere and cannot find it for Mango.
Is it possible that I am mistaken, please someone help me with this and find an app that can be configured with a SIP provider like Actionvoip or Freecall.
I hope someone proves me wrong

Don't think it's completely what you require but how about Voxofon?
Hi just saw that app but they are a voip provider with their own app. So you cannot use their app for any voip service.
That's really sad news . Thanks for the help though.
anyone else pleaaaaaaseeeeeeee
there's a Gtalk client I believe...
Reply from Counterpath Bria :-
Currently there is no plan to develop any client for WP7. There are some issues with WP7 platform for VOIP applications (that may be the reason why there are no SIP apps currently).

Oh No. That answers the biggest problem. There is an app called Gchat but I think it is more like a Jabber client which does not have any way to even buy credit from Google and use it for outgoing calls on data
Ok since there is no client available I had to find a work around to do international calls. Only thing that I found worthy of mention was this provider called Rebtel which uses your local calls plus their local access number to make international calls.
I tried it and the voice clarity sounds fantastic. Only that I will need to spend on the local minutes too while I spend some money on their international rates. Even then call rates remain nominal and not something like 30c/min.
I will stick to this until MS brings out the required API for voip. Damn Microsoft come on bring out something. At least Skype so that I can buy credit and call from there
I'm using Freecall with MobileVoip installed from Marketplace, it work fine except the voice is on speaker.

Great advice then. My Lumia arrives tomorrow and I am going to try configuring my SIP settings of Actionvoip.
Meanwhile can you tell me if that speaker voice can be routed into Earphones when I plug it in?
At least that way we can have a good work around and a solution to this problem.
mobilevoip
im using mobile voip app (free from market) with Voip Stunt but the quality is very bad..
I wish there are more apps like Fring, Nimbuzz or Skype. Microsoft promised Skype since september and still hasnt come out yet.
Yeah it is a damm shame. This is the one app that I miss from my Symbian days, I sure hope Microsoft steps up the plate and makes sip clients possible on WP7, preferrably before my next big holiday in october, otherwise I will be forced to take my Nokia N82 as well !

[Q] Using Google Voice for VOIP Calls...

So, I' keep reading that you can use Google Voice to make voip calls through wifi with tablets like my YP-G70. But I can't figure out how to do it. Every post I see anywhere says to just have it forward to Google Talk. I've done that, but still nothing happens...
Maybe I'm just missing something?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated, and I really hope I didn't miss a post that already answered this. 'Cause I really looked. =\
Also, any other app suggestions that could do this better would be awesome, too.
Thanks in advance!
Use Groove IP, and link it to your Google Voice credentials.
Free US and Canada calls for the remaining of this year.

I can definitely recommend GrooveIP. And from what I can tell, you can now make calls straight from the Google Voice app using "Click-to-Call" (added in the new version of Google Voice).
I currently use GrooveIP still though, since it's most convenient. Calls sound fantastic if your on a good connection, slightly laggy over 3G in some cases.
Ahh, thanks! Installed and working gloriously.
... Although I feel kinda dumb now.
But thank you for your help!
I use spare phone with google voice it works perfect!

Grooveip is nice. unfortunately google is going to start charging next year for calls. :-(

Doesn't surprise me at all. But I bet when they do charge it's probably still going to be a ridiculously cheap alternative.
Granted, I could be completely wrong...
Talkatone
I'd like to see something like Talkatone for iOS. That app works really well and android needs something like that.

But I like GrooveIP much better.
I'm really happy with GrooveIP so far. Especially when I remembered to change my wifi back to never sleeping.
Thanks

The Reason I like Talkatone is that you don't have to have 2 accounts set up. The subscription I used to setup my Google Talk account is up now ;-).

Groove IP Lite
This is my first post. I'm really happy to confirm that Groove IP Lite really works with my Galaxy Player 5.0
I searched "how to make my galaxy player 5.0 a phone" on google and found instructions (both video & text) from unlocker dot com. Should be very first article.
1. Setup a google voice account
2. In the settings, set your google account phone to answer to your GoogleChat.
3. Download the app at Google Play, Groove IP Lite.
4. Follow the instructions.
Have fun with your new VOIP phone. Awesome!

Yes, the earpiece works with the phone feature only (just talking back & forth). Adjust the volume in the settings first before you make your first call. Talk about ringing your in ears, man!! The button, on the earpiece, only works the "play/pause" for your music on the Galaxy Player 5.0. So you'll to your phone the player itself. Cool? Cool.
Anyone get VOIP working well on their player? I've tried ALL combinations of different software packages with my 5.0 (grooveIP, SIPdroid, talkatone, etc) and cannot find one that offers a usable delay. Every single call I've ever made has has been laggy as hell - even with a full wifi signal, wifi security off, no firewall and fast internet. My test calls all deliver voice through the player with at least a second delay, and having a conversation is almost impossible.
I've tried playing with all the SIP/VOIP settings, played with call quality, codecs, everything! Some settings have made it marginally better but still not good enough. I also bought Tegrak overclock hoping maybe the lack of processing speed on the 5.0 was causing an issue with the codecs - even overclocked to 1.5ghz there was no difference whatsoever.
I'm running gingerbread, but I can't see ICS being any better.
Anyone have any ideas, or is the hardware on the player just insufficient?
Me too I tried all kind of settings with GrooveIP and Talkatone and I just couldn't get rid of the 1 or 2 seconds delay. I'm curious if anyone else sees the same thing or do you just not notice it? It's there.
Thanks!
