[Q] Warning when exiting CWM - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

I keep getting the message: "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?" whenever I exit CWM. I've tried hitting "No" and "Go Back" and on both it just reboots normally. Anyone have idea what's causing this? Exactly what would be modified if I hit "Yes"?
(769BK v10g)

Hi, how did you install CWM? I think if you press yes it will keep the Cwm recovery so the original stock recovery doesnt flash automatically.

I installed it using the L9 Recovery apk. Whether I said no or go back, it just rebooted normally since there isn't a recovery to flash is my guess. I went ahead and said "yes" and things seem to be fine, so I guess no problem.
Thanks for the reply.

Stock recovery starts instead of clockwork

Everything's been smooth so far in regards to my vibrant modification but I noticed something today that might cause problems in the future
Im running stock rom with kingxkernel 3 and ryans oclf
I can get into clockwork recovery through rom manager without a problem (that's how I've been doing it) but if I go into recovery mode using the hardware keys it brings me to the stock recovery..any suggestions? ??? I know in the very beginning I had to choose reinstall packages and then it showed up but I was afraid to do that again before asking in case it screws up my phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
clockwork recovery doesn't replace stock recovery on the vibrant.
If you manually enter recover, you have to do the "reinstall packages" part in the stock recovery which will then load the clockwork recovery.
Oh okay thanks for the reply!

Dont you still need the update.zip in there?

yes, you still need the clockworkmod recovery file (aka update.zip) in order to load clockworkmod recovery.

Flashing Recovery: Doesn't stick

I've tried flashing recovery via Odin and CWM Recovery and it will reboot into recovery just fine. However, when I let it reboot into android, turn it off, and then go back into recovery, CWM is gone. The phone, however, stays rooted.
Any idea what could be wrong or how to fix this?
Secondly, if I can get into CWM immediately after flashing, is it safe to flash a new ROM at that point or do I need to get CWM to stick first?
Anyone? Any suggestions at all will be appreciated

Sure... You can flash a rom immediately following the flash of cwm.... Did you also install busy box?
Which cwm are you trying to use? 5.8.4.7 seems to do me good....?

Before your phone boots after installing cwm in Odin do a battery pull then boot into recovery (Volume Up+Home+power) then flash your superuser/root package. It will stick then.

I tried using that CWM version as well as an older one. Both work and I can get busy box and superuser installed once it boots up. But when I power down and try to go back into recovery, CWM is gone. I do get to keep root though.

I tried unchecking the auto-reboot button on Odin 4 and 7, and going that route. Both allow me to get into CWM, where I try to flash the recovery v5.zip. Still doesn't stick unfortunately.
My flash counter is up to about 10 now, trying to get CWM to stick..

Thanks everyone. I used CWM toolkit, reflashed the stock recovery, then used odin 3.07 to re-flash CWM 5.5.0.4 and it stuck.

Odin question

Recently got a used Galaxy Note i717,went to install the ICS update but it would not update thriough KIES.Find out the previois owner had rooted it so I just install the stock ICS firmware manually following a guide I foiund. One problem, when I hold down POWER + VOL.UP I dont get tge screen that lets you wipe cache and what not.
Phone seems to be.working fine so far, been using it a couple days but what happens when I want to install a custom rom?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
If you put a custom ROM, it will wipe your device, which you have to, for installing a Custom ROM, and all custom ROMs are rooted btw. And yes I stay away from KIES...
You might of lost recovery when you install the ICS firmware. Here is the Super Thread with all the tools and ROMs.>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740367
If you are rooted, I would put the latest TWRP here>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647575
Then just find the custom ROM of your liking and download/install on your device, FTW.
The correct procedure to boot into Recovery is :
Hold power + volume up AND volume down until you feel the phone vibrate THEN release the power button (still holding volume up and down). The phone will then boot into Recovery. It should either be " Clockwork Mod Recovery " or "TWRP". There, you can wipe, install, backup, etc.

Thank you, this kind of worked but what showed up was "Android System Recovery <3e>.
Is this Clockwork or TWRP?
The previous owner rooted it but I cant get hold of him to ask him exactly what he did.
Its neither, it's stock recovery.
You have to flash a file from your pc to the phone to replace stock recovery with a custom recovery like CWR or TWRP.

I see.I already have Odin installed and used it to flash the stock 4.04 since it would not update from KIES,will installing CWR or TWRP cause any issues?
No, just get in download mode and flash the TWRP odin file (I prefer TWRP over CWR). Reboot and you will go into recovery. Take a few minutes to make a backup of your rom.

It comes down to personal preference really ...
As CWM does a fine job as a recovery. But TWRP has many more features for the user, and seems to provide a much better user experience.
TWRP is clearly better supported, without the common outdated "status 7" errors often found in CWM.
Up to you obviously, but it's TWRP for me ....g
^^^^^ well said, Sarge. I was a CWR user for ten phones and tablets, but I tried TWRP on this phone. Its the bomb-diggity.

How to flash cm 10.1

I've got my boot loader unlocked. I'm rooted on v10g. I have cwm and I was wondering if I could just flash the zip file with cwm.
I think you have to make sure you have the right recovery to flash with. If I'm not mistaken I did flash with the cmw for locked bootloaders but to be safe I'll say to find the right one that is for unlocked bootloaders. I'm using CMW touch for unlocked bootloaders. Make sure you do a factory reset. It might not be necessary but I run a factory reset, I wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing a ROM. Also, make sure you backup your stock ROM before flashing another.

Is there anywhere I can get the files for cwm touch? I wasn't able to install that when I unlocked my bootloader. Thanks for the reply.

Here is the recovery file, just install it using fastboot as cmahendra describes in his awesome guide
Everytime I issue the unlock command to try and get in fastboot mode it just restarts my phone.

Oh, I didn't know you had a P769.
Look at the bottom most paragraph of the first post of this guide by carloswii5.
He explains it very nicely.
So to get this straight. I download the recovery image & put that on the root of the sd card. Then flash it. Then I'll boot to recovery & flash cm 10.1

Yes, exactly, but use the "Nandroid Manager ROOT" to flash recovery and then do a full wipe + format system before flashing CM10.1
You can of course then flash Gapps as well.
carloswii5 said:
If you want to install the cm10 rom the optimus L9 has as of right now you
have to do the following
1) Go to the app store and search for the app called "Nandroid Manager ROOT"
download the app and open it then go to flash recovery you must first put the recovery from the downloaded file to the
root of you external sd card and then go to the app and search for the recovery and flash it.
After you flash it you will have a recovery on your phone
(just to let you know it will be mirrored) but to boot to recovery you must turn off the phone
and then hold the "Volume UP + Home Button + Power Button"
now go download the cm10 rom from here " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216542 " put the file to the root of your sd card and then reboot to recovery and then to flash you will need to "wipe system, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache then flash" after you flash the zip reboot and you will have CM10 Hope This helped

[Q] Can't access recovery

Hi im hoping someone can help me.
I rooted my phone using the easy root method, I had philz dual recovery and flashed a rom. I installed superSU from the play store (when I should have flashed it) and now I can't access my recovery. I've tried rerooting and reflashing using all three methods for installing the recovery and none are working. Does anyone have a solution to this, I've got a backup of my stock rom etc. but I cant access it or recover it without a recovery. Im pretty much lost on this, I posted in the recovery thread but it didnt get answered.

When you flash a rom when using a recovery for locked bootloaders then it deletes the recovery
You have to reinstall your recovery

Thanks for the reply. I've tried doing that but it won't work, I dont know if it has something with Superuser? it says it cant update the binaries. Either way I've tried all 3 options on the process to install the recover (install with SuperSU, Install with SuperUser and install on unrooted rom)

I dont know if im actually rooted, I can grant apps superuser access but i downloaded a rootchecker and it says I'm not. When I try to root using doomlords its fine until the service menu bit, the screen doesnt blink and put me back to the menu it just lets me into the screen I pressed.

heres the link for NUTs download page, http://nut.xperia-files.com/ file your looking for is
Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.7.129-BETA.installer.zip (10.59MB)
this appears to be the latest version and is 17th link from the bottom of the right hand list
the flashable zip is just left of the installer
It should mean if u install a new rom and lose recovery just run the installer from windows and it should give u back recovery

Thanks, unfortunately thats what I have been using to try and regain recovery. Any other ideas? Im really struggling, I thought maybe if I unrooted and just re-rooted correctly it might help but I can't find an FTF file for my network I can only find unbranded which I very much doubt would work.
anyone?
I'm in the exact same position. I flashed monx 438 rom and I don't know what happened, I can't get into recovery either. I'm on unlocked bootloader. I have tried flashing the boot.img from 438 advanced stock kernel but at the command prompt it keeps on saying waiting for device. I have root access.
Same here.
I have a stock .402 ROM, unlocked bootloader and rooted. Have flashed the recovery a few times, and still cant get into it. Even when trying to access recovery via cmd prompt "adb reboot recovery"
I too am in the same boat... I rooted my phone, primarily to add the kitkat sd card fix, which works...
Then I went through the motion of unlocking bootloader, which I assume worked cos it wiped my phone clean. Had to reinstall everything...
Then I went through the motion of installing Cwm recovery. This went through OK. Well according to the command prompt it did.
But still I can't access recovery. I get no flashing LED lights before the Sony logo comes up, and then it just boots into normal phone mode.
I am on UK 3 network if it makes any difference......
I'd really love to be able to access my recovery cos I'm dying to apply the dual speaker and volume hack....
Don't know where to go from here..........
Just to add, I flashed to firmware 402 (uk unbranded) and re-rooted the phone and re-installed cwm recovery, but I get no led lights and no recovery mode. Oh well, just like a number one hit for 'the who', it was never meant to be....lol
sorry to resurrect but I have the same issue. how did you guys get back into recovery
I use a kernel with recovery
Vol up - cwm
Vol down - twrp
Cam key - philz
I can't flash kernol because I can't get into recovery even using the app to force boot
