Sprint is LS970.
E971 is Rogers.
Confirm they proper model #.
LG Optimus G E971/3/5

AT&T using the GSM/UMTS Network, Sprint & Verizon are CDMA, Rogers, Telus & Bell are also GSM/UMTS so you need to stick with the carrier technology for the phone to work.

The issue with using a sprint ls970 is it lacks a sim card slot. There is a sim card mod for it but unless you are comfortable with a soldering iron then I wouldn't do it. Also you'll have to build a custom ROM to support it. So its possible but will take a fair bit of work.

I'm unlocked for T-Mobile I have some questions with LTE

I traded my Atrix HD plus 50 dollars for this phone..which I think its a sweet deal plus it was unlocked phone so I can use T-Mobile for it. Now I need some help and there is way too much info about this and I don't know where to start Google is my friend, but I came here for shortcuts. I want to root, flash cwm, unlock bootloader and start flashing some rom which I will try to figure out myself. I need help with LTE
I changed my APN to fast.t-mobile.com,but I don't see any LTE signal. All I keep getting is 4G. Not sure if this phone even gets a H+ ( keep in mind i'm still on stock LG) What other settings I need to use to activate my LTE on the APN?
If I'm going to flash a ROM most likely PA or AOKP would this affect anything for carrier? I don't wanna messed up something and relock my phone.

Unfortunately if your not in the area where lte runs on the phones bands your SOL. The optimus G isnt aws so unless your in a big city there may not be any LTE. But 4g on the optimus G counts as HSPA+.

We have LTE in Phoenix AZ we had since it March 26,2013. Before the Optimus G. I was picking up LTE fine with my Motorola Atrix HD also with stock rom. I even flashed it with another rom. Still picking up LTE just fine. Of course I had to change APN to fast.t-mobile.com
Last night I rooted my Optimus G, unlocked bootloader and flash recovery. Wiped factory/reset, Wipe dalvik cache, flashed AOKP Rootbox JB 4.2, flashed Gapps w/ photosphere working, wipe dalvik cache. Success! Rom is great, no issues with it so far except LTE. I even downloaded LTE Settings from the Market no luck. All I get is H+
Do I need to flash a different radio or something? If I do can you or someone direct me to the right radio. Thanks
If I recalled tmobile uses band 4 for data speed. Optimus g does not. So no go I'm sorry. (1,3 and 5?) Does tmobile have actual lte yet? If so maybe modem may not support lte unless someone compiled one that does?

Where have you been? Like I said we have LTE in phoenix from t-mobile. Tmobile is already putting up towers all over the states. I just had LTE last week from my other device.

He's saying the modems that the Optimus G has do not run band 4. Therefore you won't get LTE if that is that band they run.
Sent from my Optimus G using xda premium
So what shoulda do? Convert my device to nexus 4? Or sell this phone and buy a nexus 4?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Edit: Actually you guys are wrong Optimus G does use band 4 according to the specs from AT&T website.

There is a line you can modify in build.prop that should enable the menu settings to change network mode, I can't remember it off the top of my head though. It may help!

Have you actually tested the speed? It may just not be showing the proper icon.
Either way, putting a different rom on it should do nothing to effect your carrier, aside from included APN's.
Im posting to confirm that the at&t version of the optimus G does indeed run on t-mobiles LTE.

I have unlocked AT&T Atrix HD and currently has AESOPIZZA Jellybean 4.1.2 it clearly shows LTE on the screen, but the superior more powerful Optimus G does not.
I'm getting at least 32mbps at speedtest.net for LTE on the other device.

No confirmed LTE yet because I am outside the area, but once I get closer to Phoenix. I will confirm here. Hopefully this is it.

I used TWRP to flash

Do you get the refarmed 1900 Mhz 3G/H+ in your area?I believe the HSPA+ in my city is the non refarmed version, therefore Edge is the best I get, even after enabling network settings in build.prop (thanks! @id10terrordfw), and after playing around in the service menu. I can get it to connect to HSPA+ on a competitors' network (local carrier called West Central Wireless), and it shows the 4G icon in the top corner, but their network is either a joke (which I have a feeling is the case), or throttle the heck out of competitors' phones connecting to their network. Either way, I simply suspect that this phone just simply doesn't have the band that T-Mobile needs to get fast HSPA+ (or non-LTE 4G, as I like to call it).
I can go into my local T-Mobile store and run speed tests on their Nexus 4 and GS3 at any time and get around 12Mbps. Their GS3 shows 4G (which I know is not the LTE 4G, and their Nexus 4 shows H+).
I've read from various forums members that flashing the Nexus 4 modem is a no-no, but I don't understand that if this hardware is identical to a Nexus 4, why can't we enable/flash support for the band we need. I haven't been out of town to a market that has true T-Mobile LTE to test it, but @STravers says it works, so I don't see any reason not to believe it.

I don't think the radio from the ATT LGOG works with TMO LTE.
Is there anyway to flash another radio that would let u get 3g or 4g something other than Edge.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
I just ordered this phone today so I can't speak from experience, but T-mobile LTE should work with the right settings. From what I've read the AT&T Optimus G (E970) has support for LTE on frequencies 700mhz and 1700mhz, T-mobile also uses 1700mhz for their LTE. Some areas in the US might let it get HSPA as well. If everything is unlocked and you're using a T-mobile SIM card then you should just need the correct APN settings. This link should help:

Hey - just went through this for an ATT i747 (Samsung Galaxy S3). Someone in the forum provided the Tmobile bootloader, modem and platform and att CSC. It ended up being what T-mobile used to tested their LTE network using ATT i747. Works great get 4G LTE. Figure will need the same type of code for the LG-E970 bootloader, modem, and platform. Still having to use ATT CSC.
On the other forum they offered up a bounty to get it done.
Could do the same thing.
You're the millionth person to ask. No, it won't work. Not going to bother pointing out why anymore. No tmo version of the lgog exists.

Carrier Neutral Phones

Sorry, don't know where to post this..?
I'm told one of the few Verizon/cdma carrier neutral smartphones is incredible II.. (should work on sprint, at&t, tmobile and various resellers) I'm just wondering if you guys know any more that preferably have more modern hardware.. ?? I prefer plug n' play type stuff.. and ability to use with MVNO's and android

Well, CDMA to CDMA will be a little work, is also a legal grey area. But there have been many posts saying that this phone (Droid DNA) works on domestic gsm carriers as well.
People report getting HSPA+ speeds on AT&T and TMo(where refarmed to 1900MHz). You'll only get edge speeds on TMo where they haven't refarmed to 1900MHz yet. So any MVNO based on those carriers should work just fine. You'll obviously have to fiddle with APN settings to get data and MMS to work, but it shouldn't be too hard.

If you take a DNA to a GSM based carrier, you may need to root/reflash with a ROM that is customized for GSM in order to get the APN settings to stick for MMS to work. The phone is SIM unlocked out of the box, I made a phone call using my DNA after popping in a T-Mobile card, without any changes at all.
Oh, I don't think the Incredible II will work on domestic GSM carriers, only European/foreign. At least I haven't ever heard of it working. You might want to verify that if you go that route. My parents are in Europe right now, however, and using their Incredible II's successfully, including APN changes for MMS.
Hi,
As stated, CDMA to CDMA takes a little bit of work. But carriers in the Philly area, like Cricket, allow you to bring some Sprint or Verizon devices over, with a reprogramming fee. I have heard of people reprogramming CDMA devices for Virgin Mobile.
The Droid DNA is a good choice.
As far as GSM goes, I have used a Verizon s3 on t mobile, rooted with custom APN. The radio's are different and the VZW s3 on t mobile only gets HSPA+ . I would just get a GSM version.
What carrier are you waiting to use ?

Specifically as I stated.. Verizon and tmobile are the top 2 I wish to use.. I wish to use the resellers page plus/lycamobile
A person who uses page plus and has used lycamobile assures me that the incredible II will swap with ease back n' forth after unlocked sim, (I think he means Verizon incredible 2) I would just like to find some newer hardware like the bionic.. or something made in late 2011 or early 2012.. but the information on bionic is it requires custom roms or certain configurations to run on either platform (aka it's not like you can just do a sim swap)

This. Stupid stock Verizon ROM uses an APN whitelist, the MMS apn type is not included since it is not needed on Verizon's network.
I recommend the NOS M7 ROM or the NOS Google Play Edition ROM, both have a GSM base and work much better on GSM carriers.
The DNA may be fully SIM unlocked out of the box, unfortunately; the stock OS ruins some of the fun.

Isn't the GSM version ALSO going to get HSPA+?
You'd need a version that supports T-Mobile's LTE frequencies to do better than HSPA+

[Q] Metro PCS?

my LG Motion is on the fritz so in the market for a new phone. I'm on a budget, but i found a used LG OPTIMUS G E970 for a reasonable price & also a Pantech Discover P9090 for $40 cheaper. If i'm correct both would work with Metro, but which would be the better choice? Naturally it would be rooted

[Q] SCH-530C Still compitible with Cricket?

Hello,
My dad recetly retired his GS3 SCH-530C. He originally bought from Cricket (a US carrier) and is compatible with 4G LTE speeds. As some of you may know, Cricket was recently aquistioned by AT&T, so now they use AT&T Networks and use SIM cards. Cricket used to be a CDMA carrier when the GS3 came out but now is a GSM carrier. The GS3 in question is a CDMA however it has a slot for a SIM card so I am not sure if its compatible with the-now-GSM Cricket. Currently, the phone has a blank SIM card replica installed but has no use. So in case you're confused: Is the GS3 SCh-530C compitible with a GSM network?
