[Q] Unable to fully download files from media fire on my GT-i9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just a quick question. Why is it that I'm unable to fully download files from media fire on most browsers but I am able to fully download files from Opera browser.
For an instance, I was downloading a ROM file on my the stock browser, but after just a few seconds they say the download is done, I tried downloading on other browsers but it doesn't work except for Opera browser. Why is this so?
I tried certain browsers like the stock aosp browser, Samsung stock browser, dolphin browser, naked browser, Firefox browser etc but all are unable to fully downloaded the files I want from media fire.
Thanks in advance

I think this is a problem which is a bit hard to understand at all
Maybe script/coding of page related.
I only recognized that some services/providers work with some browser but not with another one.
So I recommend u to find the browser u like at most and also install another one, which u can use if u have any problems with downloads or logins.
I thinks that u have to live with, at least u don't find a browser which supports all sites u need

FF can't be ported, it needs to be recompiled from source since it is ARMV7 only app. IMO, FF is the worst piece of code for mobile devices and certainly the worst mobile browser, it does not deserve any attention and any users.
Desktop FF is another story.

Agree to that,
Used firefox on my s2 once, Simply Sucked
Was lacking features n was very slow(compared to other browsers)
Many users complain about it via Market Reviews but the devs dont seem to give a heck, They haven't even tried to improvise.

Agreed
I too tried on my tab and it really sucked
stock browser too is better
So stick with opera mini when using 2g and use dolphin/miren/opera mobile rest of the time
Stock Too is great
Wen i open noops site in stock browser and wen i touch data link of any game to download, another page in the same site is opening instead of opening the download page.
And also wen i try to download any .apk(suppose 2mb file) from stock browser, a file with extension .htm(file size around 320 bytes) is downloading. Wen i try to download this same .apk from same link in pc, im able to download the .apk.
This doesnt happen always. Some .apks i hv downloaded frm mobile without any problem. Only problem happens with some .apks

I dnt like opera. suppose if we open any uploading sites like megaupload for downloading any file and if there is a 30seconds timer, timer stops at 26seconds and it wont go below that. Thats the drawback i found in opera

No problem here downloading the rom using megaupload or any other
file sharing site using my phone.
There is a folder on the root directory of the internal sdcard called
".downloadTemp" thats where the file gets downloaded to.
The default browser works best for me not only in downloads but in general.
I am using gtg's unNamed v1.0.3 rom right now.
I have downloaded many files from Internet since getting this new phone.
Good luck!

Sometimes the stock browser can be flakey when it comes to downloads. You can try clearing cache and user data, and anything else to reset the browser and that might fix it for you.
But the easiest fix is to just use a different browser, dolphin its the one I use.
Not that the stock browser is not a good one, but I could never get it to consistently download everything either. It would seem like I would toy with it for days to get it to work, then a day later it would be picky about what file types it would download again.
And last little note if your interested in this stuff, it seems the dolphin browser is the fastest browser at rendering java script we have available on Android (although the speed is not way better, it is a little better)

Don't use the default browser, download using opera always works. Look fire opera in market. It's a wonderful substitute for the stock browser with better interface as well.

I've used a few browsers beginning back in January and I have to agree that Opera is by far my favorite. I've used Miren, Dolphin, xScope and I think a few others and have found Opera to be the best for what I do. I don't need all of the customization options that some of the browsers provide and Opera loads quickly and easily; as well as allowing me to download the files I want to download.
If you want to download using the stock browser go to the market and download a small app called, download all files. Once installed, it allows the stock browser to save any file. Works great for me

I had some issues earlier today where Megaupload wouldn't let me download the complete file. Even to my desktop. It kept getting stuck between 80 and 90%. I had to give it a couple of hours then it worked. You may try to download a download manager from the Market as well.
stock browser seems flaky to me. usually it works, but every now and then it wont let me dl a program/app/file. like others have suggested maybe try another browser. sometimes if i restart the phone i can grab the file that failed the 1st time

ICS and Flash

Hi guys, I'm running Android 4.0.3 (westcrip's Resurrection ROM) and I'm having a bit of a problem with Flash videos.
I've installed Flash 11 and Flash actually works fine, except for when I go into a browser with the user agent set to Desktop. When I've got the user agent set to desktop all that appears instead of a video is a little brick with a question mark in it.
I prefer to use a desktop user agent because you can access more stuff on websites like YouTube, but now I can't.
Is this normal on ICS ROM's or have I made a mistake somewhere along the line? As it was completely fine when I was running 2.3.6.
Thanks.
if you use chrome browser he dont supports flash

I would suggest trying other browsers (Stock, Opera Mobile etc.)
It could just be a dolphin HD issue

I've tried other browsers, the only one I could find that let you change the user agent was xScope and that ran into the same problem.
All browsers i have tried allow changing user agent and they all work with flash for me on lpq.

Flash works when the user agent is set to desktop then?
Will reflash the ROM I'm using if that's the case and see if I have any luck.
Maybe first clear flash and browser pap data in apps.

The easiest way to do this is to go into settings, then manage applications, then find the stock browser and select clear defaults. Then the next time you open a link or browse a web page it should give the option to use either chrome or the stock browser for these actions, click the box that says use this by default. Then click on chrome and you should be good to go
That dont help.... I need Covenant eyes to think chrome came on my phone and not the stock browser....

This seems like a harder work around than its worth if you haven't figured it out yet.. Why not just install a different app that's does the similar thing however actually allows chrome to be monitored?
