HTC One X Line to Get Sense 5 Update - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

HTC just verified in their Facebook page that their One X (and others) will be getting a Sense 5 UI update (excluding some HTC One specific functions). What do you guys and gals think? Will we get it as well seeing how our phone is kind of a sister phone to the One X? Will we already have a new Evo and Sprint won't continue to release updates for our handset? Or will we only get a hacked together version of it from the One X build thanks to our awesome developers.
Does this extend the life of our phone? Will it hold you until the next Evo?
Here's the source by the way:
[Update: Confirmed] HTC May Upgrade One X, One X+, One S, And Butterfly To Sense 5 UI

I was just about to post this, you beat me to it. I had all but assumed we wouldn't get it but now I'm holding out hope we will. I sure hope so!

Nevermind, just realized that it was updated.

Don't they have to continue support for so many months? I would say we probably will but it will happen around Christmas

I think if this is the case, then they're moving forward with their plan of Quality of Quantity.

Well, call me the pessimistic one, but I don't think so. I'm satisfied with a port, honestly.

If the camera is as good as they make it out to be then I will gladly come back. But initial comparisons to the Lumia show its still not that great.. Can't wait for some reviewers to get their hands on it.
Blink feed looks pretty neat and I like the new sense layout.

I bet they will release it after the one launch. Just like they did for the 3d and ics.

Hopefully we do get sense 5...i don't think it's worth the $600-700 to get the HTC one

Are there any Sense roms with Sense 5 yet?

It'll be a gimped version. That's a guarantee. Just like sense 3.6. I'll take it, though.

Meh. There are tons of apps that do the same thing as BlinkFeed but allow you to add your own sources. I do like the fact that Sense 5 makes use of Roboto though.

After reading a few reviews I am starting to become convinced that the EVO LTE is capable of doing many of the things/features that HTC is trying to sell us with the HTC One. The HTC One camera reviews out there have been horrific so far in regards to the hype HTC is trying to sell us on.
I am at the point now that if a Dev in due time can create the same theme and features that the one has then there is really no reason for me to upgrade and bail on my EVO LTE. I also heard the HTC One Screen is not as bright either.
I have absolutely no faith in the possible Sprint/HTC Sense 5 Update.
This further proves my theory that HTC pretty much tries to sell us on that "this is the best phone yada yada" that they will support with updates and innovation galore only to see them pull up the red carpet and good china silverware after a month or so of the release date moving on to the next phone to bait us with leaving us hanging for the promised updates and innovation that never materialize.

^^^ they have to support a phone for a least 18 months so you never know if we'll get the sense 5 update but it is very possible

That's as far as Android version goes. Not Sense UI is concerned. That's why the EVO 3D didn't get Sense 4 when it went to ICS like the 4G LTE had.

But now that 3.16 kernel source is out I'm willing to bet we get an update to sense 5.

Right, but they could've developed Sense 4 for the EVO 3D, and left out the image chip features. If we get Sense 5, it'll be a more watered down version like that. They want to sell these new phones for those features as well.

This is what custom roms r for
they are probably reserving sense 4 for the HTC One devices. Chances are that we will get 4 after the initial release.
Or it can probably be ported, like we port sense 3.5 today.

Similar to how it was on the OG EVO 4G, There will be a number of devs that will be producing Sense 4.0 roms for our EVO 3D's. You can count on it
We'll most likely need a Sense 4 CDMA rom leak or official from another HTC device to get the 4G working. Camera is another story, Has/is a challenge on ICS in general.

There is no reason to believe that the two are related. I don't understand why people keep insisting that HTC/Sprint want to hold off on such a release so that they can make more money. The reality is that people are not likely to buy a new phone until their contract allows them to. Even for those of us earliest purchasers of the 3VO, we are not eligible for upgrade for quite some time. Regardless of ICS or no ICS, that eligibility does not change. And whether or not this phone gets ICS, I will be making my next purchase at the end of my contract. The ONLY thing holding up a release is that they don't have a stable release yet OR they are spending extra time (as they did prior to releasing the unlock) to explore more sneaky approaches on a conditional ICS release (I.E.: make it so that it won't function if anything other than an official HTC HBOOT is detected)

Ics and sense 4

I'm running a rom with ics and and sense 4. Although there are a fee bugs, it's works darn good. So my question is, why is our official sprint rom going to be Ics with sense 3.6?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Probably because they began work on the evo 3d and sensation when sense 4 didn't exist, or maybe it's a marketing ploy to get people to buy their new phones.
Chances are it's the latter of the two.
Give it time and we'll probably have sense 4 running with 3D cam, i can't ever see games working personally but i think it's a small price to pay.
sense 4 contains something called 'ImageSense'. Its a hardware related piece of software which is why other "legacy" handsets aren't getting it. Only the new devices from the one series onwards are officially getting it.
sooner or late once they figure out the components for what we need for a sense 4 ROM to work with our devices then we'll get the ROM mashups we all need and want ( Sense 4.0 + 3D camera + 3D screen) .....till then we're stuck with 3.6
I believe the Rom I loaded is sense 4. It's actually nice and light weight.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
yes but it doesn't include the imagesense hardware and software that htc are talking about. Those have been removed by the devs who port these things to our device.

Will your next phone be a "Nexus" device?

Now, before anybody gets the wrong idea, I am in no way unhappy with my phone or wanting to knock or besmirch (GREAT WORD!!!) any of the developers for our phone or any other non-Nexus device (Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, etc.). I just am curious, I was up in the air between getting the Galaxy Nexus and the EVO LTE when I was eligible for upgrade last June and I went with the EVO because I prefer the feel and build quality of HTC over the other manufacturers, and because the GNex was almost 6 months old when the EVO LTE was released, and because the EVO LTE has a far superior camera to the GNex. I am also partial to Sense over TouchWiz, Blur, etc, even though we really all know having an overlay over vanilla Android isn't the best Android experience. I have owned the CDMA Hero, EVO 4G, the EVO 3D, and now the EVO LTE and I am an HTC fanboy through and through (and am hoping that in 2014, the Nexus line is manufactured by HTC). I read where Google is trying to bring official AOSP support to non-Nexus devices (I believe Sony is the first one. Please correct me if I'm wrong.). I was just curious if anybody is starting to seriously consider moving to a Nexus phone for their next phone.

It most likely depends on who the manufacturer is of the Nexus device when I'm eligible for an upgrade in 2014.
I had a tough time choosing between the Galaxy Nexus and the EVO LTE this summer. I ultimately went with HTC because I previously had the OG Evo and was very happy with it.
ill wait till the specs come out for it before i decide.

HTC says ONE only flagship device for 2013....EVO???

I think it was Android Central where an HTC executive said the HTC ONE will be their only flagship device this year and it won't be modified for carriers..... So where does the leave the EVO line?? Carriers always leave their best phones for a summer release and the ONE comes out next month.....No way Sprint won't have a flagship device releasing in May/June!!!!

You could be right, however I think there is another situation about to happen. As far as marketing and hyping up a phone, HTC will only be making noise about the One. So you won't see any big shows, commercials, or anything else from HTC unless its about the One. That is HTC baby for 2013.
But....that doesn't mean that Spint won't contract HTC to design an EVO with lets says a snapdragon 800, and some other goodies. But the marketing, and hype will all have to come from sprint. And for that reason, I am not sure how that will go over. But I do think sprint will contine the EVO, but expect no noise from HTC about it.

Nah, I doubt sprint would even consider that. LG doesn't have that kind of backing ot credibility to pull off an EVO. No history of updates, pro/con development, or releasing of source. Not sure many would opt to grab that over the One. I know I wouldn't.

That looks really nice to me! I've never owned an LG phone, but they have definitely been improving their Android game lately! While my next phone will definitely have at least a 5"display, I'm not so sure I want a 5.5" display as the Note 2 actually felt a little larger than I was expecting (and I had expected that I'd love that size display). Only complaint with the Optimus G Pro is that the display is only IPS, instead of IPS Plus/Super IPS. Both of my current tablets have an IPS Plus display, being the Asus Prime (TF201) and the Asus Infinity (TF700T). That article even mentions that the display is not as bright as they would have liked, and IPS Plus does exactly that - increases display brightness. I guess we'll see what all Sprint has planned for this spring/summer, as that will be 1 year for me with the Evo LTE and that's about how often I've been purchasing a new phone for the last 6 years. So far though, the Optimus G Pro is in the front of the pack. I'm hoping HTC releases a phone with a 5"+ display soon very soon, as they have officially said that they will be producing phones with 5"+ displays this year.
Sent from my White Evo LTE running MeanBean, using XDA Premium
The One is HTC's only flagship phone, not Sprint's. I'm sure they're working with Sprint on a phone that'll be released in the summer to continue the EVO name. Remember, HTC had a couple different "flagship" phones last year with the One line. Now, they're sticking with just one phone (no pun intended). Now, I have been wrong before, but this is just my speculation. I'd buy the One if an EVO isn't in the cards.
If the One will be HTC's only flagship then the EVO is dead, unless they release one and it's a mid-tier device. If that was the case, why would you buy it?
Face it guys, it's over for the EVO.
As for Sprint, the only rumored device I see potentially topping the One is the Moto X. This is purely speculation seeing as there are no released specs, but I believe it won't be exclusive to any one carrier and Google wants to offer a non-Nexus device to beat Samsung's flagship. Too bad we probably won't get any details until May because I really want the One next month. It would suck waiting until May just to hear its not as superior as rumored, or that it won't go to Sprint anyway.
Yea, the EVO line is dead. I enjoyed it, but it's time to go. This will make advertising, accessories and everything else much easier.
I know people like the body design of the 4g LTE, but I for one think the one X on at&t was a much much better looking phone. The HTC ONE looks even better than that. I'll miss the kickstand, but I'm tired of explaining to people what an evo is and why it's actually still part of HTCs flagship line. It makes zero sense to keep making carrier specific models.

I for one am glad that the EVO line might be dead. The reason I am saying that is because this "should" make for quicker updates. One phone two base updates (CDMA/GSM). HTC can pour all their recourses into keeping these 2 versions updated. I know that carriers will add there bloat but keeping the base updates basically uniform should speed up the process. Just my 2 cents.
