Verizon warranty replaced my DNA - HTC Droid DNA

Just thought I should share my thoughts regarding my latest warranty exchange....my WiFi was having issues on stock Rom unrooted so I called Verizon and see what they could offer.
Battery pull and network refresh(really? I didn't know WiFi was part of the Verizon network but OK)
Factory reset(I though alright atleast were in the right area....)
Finally she proceeded to order me a replacement while telling me that Verizon doesn't tolerate abuse of the network or altering of devices, I asked why do you believe its altered and where is this abuse of your network? she replies, you use an extreme amount of data that is not likely to be consumed soley on the phone.
I couldn't stop laughing, I HONESTLY asked her if she got that from an episode of CSI? I then told her my unlimited plan doesn't include a clause for intruding questions about assumptions on how I use my phone. She quickly backed off and gave me a tracking number for the shipping.
I just was truly caught off guard after the years of having my plan and NEVER being questioned like this LOL....just my interaction and wanted to pass it along

Out of curiosity how much data was it? If you'd happen to know ?

That's what I'm saying.
When I called Verizon the week of the DNA launch, I asked the local store if they would have any devices in on that day. The rep asked me if I was upgrading my line and if I was he tried to sell me the SG3. I told him I was not upgrading, I didn't want that pos, and am planning to buy the DNA at retail price. His statement I clearly remember "Why on earth would you pay $600 for THAT phone when clearly you are eligible and able to get a better phone for $99" ... I said nicely that I would like to keep my unlimited data plan. Then he asked me, how much data do I use on a monthly basis ... I replied, usually 30-40GB+ depending. He said "depending?!! that much data should not be allowed, how can one person abuse Verizon..." I just interrupted him loudly saying ...I have UNLIMITED, UNLIMITED means there is no LIMIT! and hung up.
Since then, I blow my data out the water. Hit over 100GB last month myself and plan to do it continually

I just think it's funny that people try to say the unlimited plans were taken away "because of people like you". The reality is that Verizon got rid of unlimited plans because they want to make more money. It has very little to do with the few people here and there who "abuse" their unlimited data.
I personally have unlimited and use as little as 2GB or as much as 10GB on any given month...

Netflix, Downloading ROMs, DropBox (Auto-Upload:I take a lot of pictures and videos) YouTube, Google Music (have no problem streaming 2GB a day worth of music)
So I'm not really "abusing" I'm just taking advantage of my unlimited data, especially since the DNA only has a set amount of storage.
Now me downloading the Windows 7/SP1 ISO files from Microsoft every day would be "abusing" yet still legit
and it is all about Verizon wanting more money... They charging you for data usage and selling you phones without sdcards, forcing you to use their data to use your cloud storage
I think Verizon is "abusing" us!

I agree, Work got me on trips all the time. When at hotels, WiFi costs extra. My phone is the alternative... That uses majority me data there.
I went the route of adding an extra line to get my DNA, came out cheaper that retail!
$199 - for phone with contract
$240 - $10/month for the extra line (2yrs)
$30 - they activate data on the line, switch your two phones then cut the data off the secondary line
I got my DNA for a little over $480 with a pack of 5 free screen protectors lol

My experience with Verizon's customer service has been horrible. If Sprint had the coverage of Verizon, I would still be with them. They finally made things right with me when I was able to do an early upgrade to get my Droid DNA. I was ready to jump back to Sprint lol

Well this month it was roughly 132gb as I recall, I've gotten as high as 200gb before. Bottom line is I pay for unlimited and have had this plan going on six years so lets see 12x6=72x30=2160. That's 2,160 reasons why I don't need to explain myself about how or why I use my phone

I hope you all know eventually they are going to remove the unlimited data plan from everyone. Even when I had unlimited my 3g speeds were so slow on my old phone I never used it, I never even hit 1gb and I still haven't. The most I have ever used was 500mb. But I guess you guys can do as you please since you have unlimited. They can't stop you until they take it away...

Sad thing is I watched a sales rep convice a friend to switch and she got an iPad thinking there's no way I can use all that data they are offering.....sadly she called me the next day saying Verizon ****ed me now......now she's right around same price monthly and is limited

^ interesting. I'm new to Verizon and the phone so I have a limited plan but a co worker of mine long time Verizon person has the unlimited plan he says they tried with him also to change the plan he refused. That's some pretty high usuage you use hehe. I can def see how it can be pretty high I don't use my carrier internet to much but just from streaming music and uploading pictures alone gets me a lot of usage.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm about to get my Droid RAZR replaced to a DNA through warranty and the rep told me I had to pay for the battery and battery cover... I was under the impression that the battery was non-removable. I even have another thread asking this very question and the answer I got was that it was not removable.

Would you be kind enough to explain to someone (a noob) who isn't knowledgeable enough as to understand how a user could use 200 gb a month?
Could someone use 2000gb......8000gb....or a lot more then that a month?
Please tell me how that would be possible even given exaggerated use. I am new to this, and really don't know.
Thanks,
Dan

Is the 4g really unlimited?

Did a couple google searches and didn't find the answer to my question. Is the 4g plan really unlimited or is there a cap at 5gb as usual? Thanks.

unlimited for now...they could change it eventually
Well if it's anything like the 3g plan I had on my eris before it's truely unlimited. A lot of rumors where out there that said they would cap you or turn off service after 5gigs and it's total bs to scare you. I use 10+ gigs month after month and I was never capped, threatened or throttled. Granted I was stock using pda.net and it was totally doable.
So go balls to the wall!
it is truely unlimited but if you go crazy they may throttle you
Awesome, good to hear. Thanks for the responses.

I'm not 100% sure if this is accurate or not..but I believe being on an old Alltel plan still, mainline being a business line, I believe, and then my added line...I TRULY am unlimited on 3g and 4g (Bought a THunderbolt to grandfather in) and not Verizon's "Reserve the right to throttle after 5 gigs unlimited" since I don't believe that was mentioned in Alltel contracts.
Also...it's possible I may have unlimitted tethering as well. Tethering isn't mentioned anywhere in the contract...but that's the lookhole. IF you all remember just 4-5 years back, anybody could tether a phone to their computer as a modem for internet without having a plan. It just wasn't a big deal since the data explosion hadn't taken off yet.
I have yet to be able to confirm this and can find very little information regarding it. Anyone in a similar situation or have any knowledge on the issue?

I had no home internet connection for about 4 months so I really didn't have any other choice. And it is really easy to hit that much data and I would hit more if 3g didn't suck so bad for videos streaming and the such. But for online gaming it wasn't to bad if you can stand 200 pings.
I have a question for you guys sorry to thread jack. But I decided i'm switching to Verizon for the HTC Thunderbolt. If I wanted the unlimited data for 29.99 do I have to buy it this month or would I be okay switching over to Verizon next month?

How to get unlimited data!

I was in the Droid Bionic forum and came across this ( thanks jesziicuh) . It totally works I did it on my wife's line. If you have tired data, call *611, option 4, say add a feature, talk to a representative and add unlimited 4g hot spot to your tiered data line. They upgrade your data to unlimited to accommodate the unlimited hotspot. Then log into you verizonwireless account. Go to the row where it says plan. Then click on change features. Pick your phone you just upgraded, then scroll down and remove unlimited 4g hotspot. Worked like a charm!!! My wife's data tracker on her phone now says unlimited!!!! Got to love loop holes!
Edit: This might actually take several attempts to accomplish. I have heard some people have tried upwards of 5 times before actually receiving unlimited data.
Edit2: Thanks to nomisunrider we have the actual plan code the verizon rep uses to add 4g unlimited MHS. plan code #76153 — $30 Unlimited 4G Mobile Hotspot. I would still ask for the 4g unlimited MHS first and if they give you trouble tell them you were told the plan code is 76153. Hope this helps and cuts down on the amount of calls some people have to make.
watch verizon catches on to this like they did with the early rezound orders

Sorry I forgot to proof read my post. Just wanted to put the info out there as fast as possible. TIERED DATA!!!
I'm pretty sure that Verizon will change your wife's plan back to tiered. Gotta love people always finding ways to exploit companies, and proceed to comaplin when the company comes up with a policy to counter. Prime example were the warranty exchanges issued by Verizon. Even if there was a minor blemish say from a manufactering issue there is a higher chance they would get on your case and charge you $300. That's thanks to people sending in phones that work but with physical damage. Ie someones dog chewed through their phone ,or they dropped the phone with the screen cracked. People exploit and then cry when the company cracks down.
If they change it back so be it. My wife was happy before, but if they don't oh well. Why should we both pay the same for data but I have unlimited and she has 4 gigs. Just cause Verizon wanted to be a bunch of D bags and be like AT&T. Your telling me you have never went to a store and bought something that was miss priced and you knew the price was wrong but still fought to get what the lower price was. Dude this is a modding forum. Not bash everyone forum. Everything in this place is about bending the rules and coming up with work arounds set in place by the carrier and maker of the phone. You are no better than anyone else here.

Just called gerizon they are updating their system I'm guessing they are patching this. Damn I was only 20 mine to late
I called and they told me that unless I was grandfathered in with unlimited data, I could not get unlimited 4 g hotspot.
Maybe they've already caught on.
On the other forum people said it took 3-4 times sometimes before someone would do it. For me I called once the lady said ok. I don't know if it matters I had unlimited on my line so she was able to do it for my other line(my wifes phone).
Lol just got a hold of someone. I ended up getting unlimited data and Sicily hotspot for a total of 29.99 a month to think I was paying a 100 just for 20 gigs.

LOL never said I was "better" than anyone, don't know where you got that . Just saying carriers/providers crack down more because of crap like this. I rarely go to stores for major purchases so really haven't had to do the whole "rage angry customer to save a few bucks" stance yet. They're a business they want to make money, not a crime. If you don't like their policies/bundles then go to another carrier? Just saying you have your choices .
As a Verizon employee, I can promise you that the unlimited data will NOT stick. They audit accounts for things just like this, if you were not supposed to have it, the feature will be removed.
This has been going on for a few days now. I saw that one.person even talked to a supervisor and they said that yes if you get the hotspot it will give you unlimited data. Of course who knows how long it will last but it is something that is being automatically done not random employees doing it on there own.
Of course it does not.affect me as I am grandfathered in.

Verizon unlimited data is great.

Half way through the month and I'm at 50GB... I'm loving the unlimited data plan...
And that is why Verizon changed to shared data, because data hogs ruin it for everyone else. Have you heard of wifi? There are people who stay below 2 gb of data who enjoy getting a low priced upgrade at the end if their contract but who are afraid to because they will have to change to the new shared plan. I get 4 gb for the price of 2 on my current plan, still only use under half that. Thanks!

They offered the plans, we were customers at the right time...there is no reason we cannot use it!
I'm still under an Unlimited plan and plan to keep it a good long while! I enjoy as much data as I wish a month
I'm sorry you were not able to keep it, dont hate the player...hate the game/provider!
I'm gonna go see how much data I can rack up before my bill cycle ends on the 5th
How is it even possible to use that much data? I would have to spend all my time consuming data.

Your crazy if you think the 1% "data hogs" on the Verizon network have anything what so ever to do with shared plans. It's called corporate greed. Period. It's the same reason they let us keep it. If you want and are nice about it they still let you keep unlimited with a upgrade. They would rather keep the customer then lose one over the would be profit gained from share plans.
^This is not the first time I have heard this
Actually mine is Netflix/Amazon/and a few other type of sites. I'm currently in an area where dsl and cable are not available. So it's use what I have to see something on the screen or a couple of channels on an antenna.

It was stated in an article that due to people using more data instead of calls/messaging, they flipped the billing around. Calls and messages cost nothing and they are raping on data now. Used to be the opposite.
Greed is the fuel.

All I am saying is people using exorbitant amounts of data is the reason these phone companies started to limit the data plans and charge more. If it didn't happen they couldn't use that for a reason. Really, doesn't anyone have a job that they spend that much time watching Netflix? I guess we are back in the store age of you don't have access to cable or a dish network. If you are in that remote of an area I would imagine your cell service isn't that strong either.

Lol not everyone lives in a major city. Matter of fact there are far more rural areas then major in the us. Have you not seen a Verizon commercial in the last couple years? They are marketing to the very people you think are abusing the network. They preload netflix on most models . We are far past the days of per meg or kb billing. Hell a single hd flick is atleast a few gigs. Be realistic man.

Yes I suppose if you're using your phone as a hot spot with no wifi available, you could run up quite a bit of data. I do watch a lot of shows online using my comcast high speed. I prolly use 50 GB per month or more.

The reason cmraymond stated is not the reason that Verizon is trying so hard to push people off of unlimited - this is the reason. You say that you're going to see how much data you can rack up before your bill cycle as if you're intentionally trying to use as much data as possible because you can. This seems to be a common thought among people who hold on to their unlimited data, and it does make cmraymond's hypothesis slightly more possible. You may be mad that Verizon wants to take your unlimited data, but the way to justice is not to abuse it as much as possible. That doesn't teach Verizon a lesson, that makes them want to try as hard as they possibly can to kick you off of it once and for all so that they can do other things with all that bandwidth. I'm not saying that it's right that Verizon wants to move everyone away from unlimited, but when I see posts like this, I understand their reasoning. It's precisely why I didn't care about switching to shared - I don't need to use unnecessary amounts of data just because I can, and often I don't. I like streaming HD video, but I don't need to be doing so 24/7 through mobile data. I like being able to stream music, but I found that it's just as simple to download the songs I listen to onto an SD card (I have about 120 or so songs on it, so it's not an incredibly large choice, but it barely uses any space so I'm sure people could download much more if they needed), so I don't need to stream every time I want to listen to music. Verizon expects people to be able to do the same things I've done, because it's reasonable. Using their network is a privilege, and unlimited data is not a right. They may have originally done away with unlimited data to get more money, but now I can understand the argument that they just genuinely want people to stop using so much data simply because they can use data.
I have unlimited data but I only use about 2 gb a month. I'm usually on wifi which is a lot faster.

That's all I am saying. I see post after post of people who tethered because they don't have Internet. More likely reason is they don't want to pay for Internet and just use their phones data. Hello, I pay $40 for wireless Internet plus $ 100 bucks for cell phone with data. The people who do this run data sky high too. I just say own up to what you use and pay for it. I am not going to sugar coat it, and you can't deny that there are thousands of posts of people who tether without paying for it.

I hit over 400GB month before last

Anyway to keep my unlimited?

Ok so no need to get scared Verizon didn't kick me out of unlimited, here's the deal so my mother finally made the change and got an iPhone and so did my dad, my dad had at&t before, Sooo when they get home my moms like " hey guys so we got the phones and 6 gigs of data but the girl said not to watch videos then my mom said that the girl told her that me and my sis didn't use our unlimited that much...
As soon as she said that I spring into action and check out my Verizon settings and sure enough it was a 6 gb share everything data plan for 4 smartphones... Me and my sister lost our unlimited and I'm like hell no so I take my mom and dad and drive down to Verizon to get my unlimited back and obviously get an actual better deal? So I start discussing with the sales representative that sold my mom the phones and exposing why her "good deal for us" was pure Bs since we already had 1 gig out of the six and it was barely the first day and the 15 dollar charge for going over a gig= no thanks...
Aparrently I used 8.5 gigs the last month and my sis used two gigs...
So we keep on discussing she says she can hook us up with a 16 gig shared data for 350 and says we save 10 dollars, so I broke it down for her there saying if me and my sis revert to unlimited data, my parents get the 2 gb data plan for each of their phones, unl text and calling and then my two little sister unl txt and talk, and the total to that came to 330.
In the end she said that since we had already 5 lines on the family plan, and my dad was adding his line we couldn't keep the old plans since apparently there is a 5 line limit, and the shared data plan ups the limit from 5 lines to 10 is this true? And I think I read somewhere a long time ago that if u have good credit with Verizon that u could add 2 more lines into the old family plan?
Is this a lost battle and should I just settle for the 16 gb shared data? I'll hate having to limit my netflix viewing on the and just overall limiting my phone internet time.

From what I understand once you lose unlimited, there is no way to get it back
You can change your contract back within 30 days of when you make a change to your contract but I think I'm screwed due to the old way of only 5 lines on a family plan

Explain to your pops that it would save you guys money for him to open a separate contract for his phone. Explain to him that by you, and your sister going over the data cap he would have to pay more for the data than the extra contract. I have been looking into holes for awhile to see if we could do something similar. They won't get my unlimited until they pry it from my cold dead fingers...If it happens before that, then i will be moving on to greener pastures. C,mon Dish, and Google, Lte's see that data rumor come true....
This is why i hate big companies. They are so greedy...I have to get rid of my unlimited data and pay more per month for limited data? That is ridiculous. smh

No there's 6 lines now me my three sisters mom and dad
Funny thing is I think it seems they try to push 6 gb data to everyone because while I was discussing an Asian couple arrived and they had 6 smartphones with unl. Data and the sales associate next to me was saying how 6 gigs was enough for them like Wtf? no its not

Usually they pull the account and check the average that's been used over a long period of time and that's where they get the formula to recommend the shared data plan. They usually will recommend on the low side since its adjustable on the fly and the lower they can get that final monthly bill total the easier it is for them to sell it. The problem with that is the typical person financially responsible for the plan isn't a phone guru and doesn't make a habit of screwing with their phone, monitoring data consumption, etc until a huge bill arrives.
To the OP, it sounds like your family is pretty well established in their decision and things probably won't work out for you to keep your unlimited, considering they already made the decision and yanked your unlimited, which will require an act of congress to Change, and they already have their phones and probably your Dad ported a number I'm guessing. Which means they're comfortable and probably that one trip back to the Verizon store already has them tired of dealing with it.

Don't know if this can help in your family plan situation, but when I had to replace my phone (no warranty/insurance) they offered me an early upgrade and good price on a new Rez or GS3 but losing unlimited by using the upgrade. In order to keep unlimited the guy said I could get a "landline" (I think it's fios - unlimited nationwide calling) phone for $20/month.
So, if there's anyway you guys get unlimited on a couple or all lines for the $20/mo. it might be worth it.

I have 2 possible options for you. 1 is to make one of your sisters disappear. 2 is to take your unlimited data which is/was tied to your phone # and have it put into your own name so it would be a completely separate account. If your not old enough or have credit problems see if one of your sisters can get their own account.
Also there isn't any reason why 1 person can't have 6 individual accounts or 2 accounts with 3 shared lines.

I don't really feel sorry for those who use 100+ GB/month. Those are the users that prompted the removal of the unlimited plans to start with. You can scream "unlimited is unlimited" if you want but its Verizon's sandbox and they make the rules.

Agreed...there comes a point (about 100 GB a month) where it becomes an "unjust enrichment" for the end user....and this is why we cannot have nice things lol
I'm surprised Verizon didn't go the route of...well the unlimited data plan started in the days of 2G/3G only...so that's the only unlimited data you get...when you are on 2G/3G.
Maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas... :/
agreed. I live out in the boonies, I am on 1x and sometimes 3g. my internet is only dsl at 2.5Mbps (3g speeds) ... so whenever I hit 4g on my phone, I do everything with it. so i sometimes rack up 70gb+ a month. especially when im at work ..teamviewer, netflix, streaming cameras setup at various locations, music is always going, showbox, kodi (tends to use a lot more data than other streaming apps)... the data rack up quick.
Has anyone actually reported receiving a letter yet ?
I use it as primary internet. Been paying for it for so long. Screw paying $60+ a month for cable that is the same speed but doesn't offer the same capabilities that cellular data does. I rack up over 100gb a month but it's a business account so i doubt they will cut me off.
The fcc does nothing about the internet monopoly in my area because it's not considered a monopoly because wireless internet is considered an option. When verizon charges what they do for internet it clearly isn't an option. We all know verizon can afford to give you more GB's at a lower price.
Most of the infrastructure is already in place and they are paying purely for maintenance at this point. And when they are talking about faster speeds with xlte and lte-a they are expecting you to use more data but have no plans on reducing the cost per gb. Faster speeds means a larger resource pool to tap into. The excuse that heavy udp users are decreasing the speeds for others is basically a thing of the past at this point.
Honestly it's all bs marketing and political manipulation. Tell me why countries in the EU can offer unlimited lte data for 35 euoros a month, which people use as their primary internet source, if this isn't the case?

And why R u saying at 100 gigs a month? Why this amount? Unjust? U r an idiot in perspective. Unjust =Hilary Clinton's Fuk'n National security (knowingly) and walking free. Do you people not understand the technology that we are using and the capabilities at our hands? You should send Verizon Customer Service this coherent, well thought out argument...I'm sure they will reconnect your UDP in no time....lol
Wait a second, I am currently experience a minor heart attack! They are CANCELING your UDP?!
I have not received a letter regarding this, is anyone else receiving this letter?

I average 12GB/month (which is NOT heavy use at all) and received my letter informing my UDP is being terminated as of Feb 16. I have complained to both of my local stores and the customer service call center to no avail. I was told that once the letter was sent my fate was sealed.

They will regret it, T-Mobiles service, at least here is so spotty its not even worth paying for. When my wife had it she had to use my wifi tethering just to use her phone half the time we went anywhere.
200gb a month is plenty, but the problem is the price of the new plans they want you on. Id never pay those rediculous prices.
But unlimited should be unlimited, i understand that too, but 500gb people... Come on now, that is a little excessive. I don't even come close to that downloading movies all day on my home cable network. So i can see where verizon is coming from. Fair usage.
I am sticking with my Verizon UDP for now, but i have also bought my wife a new phone on at&t's DirecTV unlimited plan that's up to 4 devices just incase verizon pulls out more bs. Figured id jump on that and get grandfathered on that also, since in my area at&t is second best if not identical to Verizon's coverage.
Sprint and T-Mobile are out if the question for me, been there done that.

I agree with you on that one, 200GB/month is a bit excessive and almost abusive to the network load. But for those of us that use 12GB and end up getting our plans yanked from us is insulting. I know I purposefully sought out wifi wherever I could to keep unnecessary use of network resources to a minimum. This is the thanks I was given for my consideration.
To say I feel insulted is putting it lightly.

Oh I feel insulted for you as well. 12GB is not that bad at all. I average 45gb and have not received a letter yet. This whole ordeal is ridiculous. I would rather they implement a cap on the unlimited, like say 100GB or even 40GB and then slow us way down instead of just straight up removing us.
