Dna coming in the mail today!!! - HTC Droid DNA

Guys I am soooo pumped about getting my DNA today!!!! I'm no stranger to rooting but I have noticed people saying "do not receive the OTA". Will my phone come with it already on there? How will I know? I'm coming from a Droid Razr and can't wait to see what my new phone has to deliver. Thanks guys

if you are getting it from online or any other way through the mail it will most likely have the pos ota that cant be rooted yet (i'm in the same boat and while the stock rom is pretty good the verizon and htc bloatware is annoying to say the least)

Most of the bloatware can be disabled on stock although it's not removing it you can prevent it from being seen and running in your phone.

I don't think we can easily re size the different partitions yet, so deleting them won't add any usable space.

Where did you get it from? Just got mine today from AmazonWireless <3 UPS
It didn't have the new update thankfully. Settings-> About -> Software info. -> Software number should start as 1.15

Well if you do have the update then disabling it is the only thing you can do for now until a new exploit is found which should be soon.

Mine starts at 2.04... this mean no root?

I know it might be too late for this OTA, but I wonder if it closes the exploit to obtain temp root.
Just wondering How and where did you happen to get this info from?
Yeah where's your source.
I still wont touch any updates, im not loosing any chances for full root and unlocked. Ill deal with it, im sure it'll be baked into a custom ROM when theyr'e available.

Actually, the VM notification bug has already been fixed as long as you have S-OFF thanks to rootzwiki. Let's see how long it takes them to integrate that fix, assuming they go that route. In other words, if you are using the rooted MR3 OTA then you are good to go. The fix also works on other GB roms as well and I believe Bamf already includes it.

Well, I'm stock and I've had the issue of mobile data not working. Oh, and let's not forget the terrible awake times that drain the battery. It seems unfair that these forums would only be for those who unlock their bootloaders and install custom roms. Maybe you're right though and maybe I'll just go elsewhere if I need help.
Why call AT&T for regards to an update anyway. You will have much better luck calling the manufacture. Sometimes you can get them to throw the carrier under the bus. Sometimes they say the update has already been submitted to the carrier for testing. Of course they could be lying. My point is, you won't get a right answer for AT&T but you may get a plausible answer from LG.

Stock vs Rooted

Now I'm not your average user. I've only owned two android phones: the LG esteem and now the DNA. The Esteem was really a solid phone and the development team really allowed the phone to go above and beyond its limits. Though I loved my Esteem the DNA just blows it out the water in all aspects. I rooted my Esteem because it wasn't as good stock. A phone like this makes me wonder is it even necessary to root because it's already so fast and so smooth.
And that's pretty much my question. As I hold my DNA in my hand I'm wondering if I should go ahead and root or just keep it as stock. What do you guys think?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I've been stuck on stock because I took the ota. But the stock Rom for me has been amazing I'm patiently waiting for the unlock. But it's great maybe one of the first phones I'm really content on stock. I've been keeping up with custom roms and some really still seem to have some issues and quirks like wireless charging issues and Bluetooth not working. Phones not going into deep sleep I don't have any of those issues.

Giving root to everyone might not be optimal for average users that aren't tech savvy... however it really shouldn't be difficult to get root access...once a device is bought, the users should have the right to do what they want with it. Think about buying a laptop and not being able to put an OS you want on it...could we have a petition to force companies to let the device really be owned by the user after its been payed for?

That doesn't remove the ota, it removes the files on your phone that control the ota.

[Q] 2.04 update on GSM

Hey, guys. I bought a Droid DNA to use on AT&T. Everything is working fine, but it came with the older software version (1.5) and I'm not planning to root, so I wanted to update it to 2.04.
The problem is, it's not an option. It seems like it will only let me update if I have a CDMA signal. Anyone know a way around this? I already took out my SIM card and set it to CDMA mode. That actually lights up the "check for updates" button, but it still doesn't find anything. There has to be a way to update this phone without Verizon service.
You could root then flash the ota

It probably had something to do with the fact that I specifically said "without rooting" and that was the immediate response...IDIOT.
Example:
Question: "Can anyone recommend an action movie that doesn't star Bruce Willis".
Answer: "I recommend Die Hard".
Duh?
It's not helpful to suggest the one thing that someone says they don't want to do. That's what I would classify as smartass. I was trying to see if anyone else knew of another method. The friend sim card came up as an option later. I suggest you check yourself.
For those crying "root" because the phone was on a software version that allows it, I flip my phones pretty quickly and I don't want to permanently unlock a phone that I will probably be selling or trading sometime in the near future.

It probably had something to do with the fact that I specifically said "without rooting" and that was the immediate response...IDIOT.

Apparently not. And even if it was, I never stipulated in my original post that it had to stay on GSM, idiot.
Feel free to keep trolling. I could care less if the thread gets closed. I have my answer and it didn't involve root, which seems to be the default reply to every question here. /unsubscribe

Well considering the title said how to update the phone on gsm and you specifically said "There has to be a way to update this phone without Verizon service."
