Should I upgrade or wait? - HTC Droid DNA

I am on a droid incredible with 4.2.2 cm10.1. It is pretty smooth and very awesome but I am eligible for my Verizon upgrade. Should I get the DNA now and be stuck with it for the next two years(not implying its bad, from what I read here the roms are amazing and its a great phone) or should I wait for something new coming out?

You are always going to be waiting for something new. Just get whatever you want honestly. New tech is always coming out.

If you plan on sticking with the phone I'd jump on the DNA through a 3rd party retailer. Look around and you will find most places have it for $50 but you have to sign a secondary contract stating you will stick with that device and the same number for 6-12 months.
It's a great phone.

That's how I was starting to feel until the DNA came out, then I had something to get excited about. Nothing before the DNA got me excited, except for the One X(+) but that was on AT&T unfortunately

I would feel like the S4 is a side-step instead of an upgrade. It might be awhile till something truly exciting comes out again.

coincidentally AmazonWireless and WireFly ( + Verizon itself ) offer 2 day shipping as well.
Ordered on AmazonWireless myself, took them 1 day technically, got it early the next morning.

I'm a Droid DNA owner and am very pleased with it thus far. I'd suggest picking one up asap.. Why wait? ;D

I love my DNA and highly recommend Wirefly which is where I got mine. It was $50 dollars less than what Verizon was charging. I paid $149 when Verizon had it for $199, which it is still at this price. I wish I would of waited another couple of months because WF now has it for $99 to upgrade and if you are getting a new line, it is $50.
You need to keep the line activated for a minimum of 6 months or they charge you $400.

So in the next 2 weeks? Call me skeptical... to say the least. Also if that's the case then I probably wont be getting the One because I'm 6 months out for an upgrade. Guess I'll get whatever's after the One.
I am leaning more toward that the one will replace the dna in wal mart stores due to space constraints, but vzw, amazon, etc will probably continue to sell it
That is disappointing but alright at the same time.
All it has over the DNA ( most likely ) is the camera and development crowd from being global.

And just like that the HTC DROID DNA IS EOL
iSheep... iSheep... Meowww that's Apple VZW GSIII
I saw this coming a mile away and people hated on me like no tomorrow. The first minute we heard about the One, I said that the DNA would be dead to HTC and Verizon. They were just too similar and it was obvious the One improved on some of the cons of the DNA. It was almost like "oops, we made some mistakes on the DNA, so here is our real flagship now".
With that being said, I just got a DNA again last week and am enjoying it. But let me be straight....If the rumors are true and Verizon is getting the One or even their own variant of it, I will buy it on launch day without even thinking twice.
Must be nice to be able to afford multiple phone purchases within a month. It amazes me how people buy new phones every other month. I don't see how people don't lose tons of money on doing that...

I actually made $50 to get the DNA last week lol. I traded someone my Note 2 and he gave me $50 for me to take the DNA off his hands.
When and if the One becomes available or gets announced officially, I will sell my DNA for $400-450 and either get the One for a couple hundred more off contract or use another one of my upgrades.
I usually never come out of pocket more than $100-200 to get a brand new phone. You just gotta work it and don't let your devices get too outdated. I absolutely love getting and flipping devices for a new one withing 6 months to a year. It's fun and actually doesn't really cost much. Especially compared to other hobbies which can cost much more.

Oh my god. I'm just sitting here and hoping what is assumed will become true! (This stuff is always a hit or miss )
Pretty glad things came up and I didn't upgrade to the DNA 3 days ago, that would've hit the regrets pretty hard (not that I don't like the DNA; but I do have a preference for the One and there seems to be issue with rooting the DNA with the OTA. I was really wanting to install sense 5 on it)
I've been sitting on the verge of my upgrade, contract ending on the 22nd. Will probably pick up the 32GB variant, going to assume the phone will be good enough for me as is without root.

Dude, you don't even know lol. I'm not married (yet), but my girlfriend just laughs now and calls me crazy. I have literally been through about 5 devices in the past 6 months.
I went from my S3 to a HTC 8X Windows Phone (I had to try it lol) to a DNA to a Note 2 and back to a DNA. Not to mention shortly before that I had a Droid Razr Maxx.
I'm a phone whore and I happily admit it!
You guys are kind of jumping the gun. Walmart choosing not to carry both phones doesn't mean the DNA is EOL or that other resellers will follow in their footsteps. So VZW may kill the DNA in favor of the One but they haven't even officially announced their carrying the One yet. And a "Droid" branded device helps shore up a brand they've spent a ton of money building so there's room for both if they see fit.
Regardless.. Eol or not, I'm not bailing on the DNA, knowing that a newer better phone cycles out all the time... No real reason at the moment.. I'll wait to see what's up next
DROID DNA 5
Yea most definitely. However, if I could go back three weeks I would have waited for this. I had the PUK lock issue today for first time...all Verizon store did is reissue me new SIM again...maybe if the issue happens again (which it will) they will give me a One...

Offload the phone? For someone who bought the DNA 5 months ago it may not have been realistic to wait until late May for the next option.

The One is going to be awesome if it ever comes to Verizon but I'm personally tired of the games they're playing about it.
its really up to what you want in the end. they DNA is good enough. the S4 is a bit faster but plastic and has 13 mp cam. the One is premium build quality with 4 ultrapx and a hair slower than the s4...I would recommend the One...i ended up getting a DNA like a couple of weeks before One but am still very happy

I went to the vzw store today and messed with the DNA. IMO it feels a lot like my old original incredible. I like the wireless charging. I really want sense 5, but will the DNA ever get that without rooting?
I really need better battery life too. I've got an OEM 2100 battery on my nexus and barely get through a work day with about 90 minutes of talk time and 90 minutes of screen time. From what I'm reading both the DNA and One get great battery life.

If you'll be paying Verizon's price, I'd wait out for the One/DNA 2.
Also keep in mind that the DNA has 16gb of memory, while the One comes with 32gb as the base option. I personally would wait a bit longer just for the extra memory.

A "hair slower" is a relative statement. The benchmark differences are exactly what you'd expect from a .2ghz difference, though for real world usage the difference is negligible.
The DNA is great, it's here now, it's marginally different from the One, and it's not very expensive anymore. Especially with the prospect of moonshine S-OFF, which would enable you to get Sense 5 if it doesn't show up in an OTA any time soon, I say go for the DNA.

as RQUIETT stated, yes this phone has its ups and downs as they all do.
I got my Infuse for 1 penny as a refurb and never had issue one with it. after Thanksgiving, I got my Note and 2 S3's for under $100, also refurbs.
well worth the money.
between contracts, data plans and need accessories and their availability, that's up to you. in my opinion, XDA is the one that keeps us current and keeps our Notes looking and feeling new and up to date
With the latest JB update, the phone is alot zippier. The hardware is still nowhere near the new phones, but it is more than enough for regular/daily use. And as mentioned before, there will be new updated ROMs to keep this phone going.
It sounds like OP is fine with the screen size, so if the price is reasonable (considering how old this phone is), I would recommend it.
Just note that the resale value might drop alot once the new Note 3 comes out later this year.
Ok thanks guys. I found it used. A family member will sell it to me for $150 and the note has no screen scratches and light scratches on the body. What do you guys think? Is it at a good price?

Where is your source for this confirmation? Everywhere I've read says that Aug. 1st is only a rumored date because of the road map leak which has been, for the most part, false so far. Do you have updated official news from Verizon I don't know about?

If you're asking about Edge, you keep it. What Verizon will do is they'll split the retail price of the phone into 12 payments, then you make a payment each month until it's paid off, then the phone is yours. No need to renew your contract or trade in your phone.
But enough about Edge, this isn't the place to discuss that

It's like T-Mobile Jump, all the major carriers are doing it. It lets you upgrade every six months by letting you make monthly payments on a device.

I had to go to a couple Verizon stores Friday. All the employees said the same thing (at different stores). They said it was just told to employees that morning. One is actually on xda too lol.

That is great news! I've been obsessing about this phone for months so at this point you could tell me it sprouted ears and a tail and I'd be ready to believe you lol. Sorry if this is asking too many questions -but I'm a woman and need details- did those employees state that the phone would hit shelves that day or just be ready for pre-order? Any word of a press announcement happening a day in advance or day of? If they are launching it Thursday and not making a big deal of it I want to make sure I'm there bright and early (or on the website) to get one! Any word of it being in red? Feeeeeed my HTC One hungerrrrrrrr

By the time you pay it off HTC will have released a new flagship phone and the One will be left 2 generations behind in the Android world.

No, you have to hand it in... It's not really a consumer friendly thing. Just makes it look like it. T-Mobile are the only ones doing it right. With Edge you pay installments for you device and still have to pay the Verizon plan pricing setup to be profitable when handing out subsidized phones.
But back to topic, our phones are not that inferior to the HTC One. Actually only the CPU is older. Barely. Other then the sexy aluminium body and smaller screen, the phones are very similar. Well I guess the One has an IR blaster too.
I really want a One. I love my DNA but the One is just so sexy.

Well, thanks for the info on edge and the one. I recently got the DNA, since I went into the pool with my gs3 in my pocket. I am loving the phone. I had one issue with the proximity sensor not working properly. I had to root and the use the resound proximity calibration app to fix that. Is that a know issue with DNA.

About Verizon edge...
You lose unlimited if you have it
It's actually more expensive than a subsided phone
You have to trade in the old one
Rip off
Although the 1st is just a rumour can't say its been proven false till the 1st. Also a Google search reveals like 20 plus tech sites saying the same thing... I'd say believe it at this point.
