[Q] Unrooted phone but SkyGo thinks it's roote - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've unrooted my phone because I'm missing SkyGo and also couldn't get updates easily via Kies. Titanium Backup won't even show as an icon, SuperSU gives an error when starting and ROM Toolbox says root access is required. All of this would confirm to me that my phone is not rooted and in addition the phone's status is 'normal'.
So why does SkyGo still tell me my phone is rooted and it won't support rooted devices?
Also, when I connect to KIES to look for updates, why does it tell me my firmware is not supported?
I downloaded stock 4.1.2 ROM from SAMOBILE and the build number is JZO54K.I9300XXEMA1. Baseband version is I9300XXELLA.
Do I need to do anything else?
Thanks, Paul

Thanks for such a speedy response. Being a bit of a novice at all of this, will I lose any data or settings if I factory reset? Do I do this by holding down vol up, home and power or through "Back up and reset" in settings?
Thanks, Paul

you will lose all the apps and data

A factory reset after flashing stock firmware is the only thing (if I understand correctly ) you can do.

Thanks for that idea. Will I lose data?
Regarding other threads, I have searched for quite a long time looking for the information on Sky Go and Kies that I need but haven't found solutions. I might be looking in the wrong places, but no luck yet.

What about Skys own forum ???
jje

I suspect Sky won't help you Unfortunately.
The reason they do not allow access from rooted phones is from a security point of view. .
It is much easier on a rooted phone to find ways of recording from the app etc and sky obviously won't allow that .
So I guess your decision comes down to what is more important to you. ..
The ability to watch Sky Go?
Or the functionality and features of a rooted phone.
I personally chose the latter. ..
There are plenty of ways to skin a fish

I noticed that dialing a few contacts gives these type of errors. Can you give any solution for this without being reset. If flashing or reset is compulsory then how to backup and reinstall stock rom. Please tell me the steps involved. And one more, where can i get the stock rom?

[Q] Best back-up/restore for a quick factory reset

Would appreciate any recommendations of a good backup & restore app to make a factory reset as painless as possible. Please let me know what will not be backed up so I can do this separately. Is Kies a good option?
Reason I want to reset is cause my phone has become slow & laggy, especially gmail, and read that some of the recent firmware updates may cause this & a reset can help, so thought I'd give it a try.
It's an international s3, not locked to any carrier and all stock firmware.
Thanks.

Today I did a factory reset of my device samsung galaxy s3 which is on stock rom. Everything is okay but the only problem is that when I try to install facebook from playstore it gives an error 'file package is invalid'. Same is the case for qeep messenger and hotspot. Besides these few apps all other apps downloaded and installed successfully. I did alot of digging and tried every mentioned trick but it didn't work for me. If someone knows how to fix it so plz guide me through.
Thanks in advance.

I don't want my s3 to loose its virginity (by being rooted) . BTW I just thought something from my mind and implemented and it just worked perfecto' . I used vpn for it. And it succeeded. But I still don't know what main problem is because I can download all other apps without any kind of vpn but not few ones which I mentioned earlier. Well cheers to me

Well this is what first caused the problem so I wouldn't recommend it.
I think that flashing with Odin and wipe should be the definitve solution to his problem.
You can also try to reinstall the Play Store to see if the problem goes away.

You have some remnants of the old installs hanging round.
You have two options:
1) Do a Mega Wipe, then flash again
2) Use a root explorer, go to data/data/ then find the files that are hanging around and delete.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 unable to turn on wifi.

Hi, my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3.
My device is bought in Singapore.
Its my first time rooting my device.
Ran into a problem that I couldn't turn on my wifi anymore. (tried wifi fixer app and turning airplane mode on and off)
I have successfully rooted my device as verified with the Root Checker App.
I have downloaded all the files from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330598
I should done all steps correctly.
After I have done those steps, I downloaded Simons_JB_Rom_v100_based_on_AMH1.zip
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374899
Transferred it into my phone then I proceeded on installing the Custom ROM.
I've backed up my stuffs through the the recovery.
I have reset my phone to factory settings, wiped the cache partition, wiped Delvik cache.
I did a restart but i did not see any "Yellow exclamation logo".
After all, I proceeded on to install the ROM.
I cant turn on my wifi from now on. I've tried to download the "Wifi Fixer" app but it wont work.
I got a feeling that I have not erased my previous stock ROM but I proceeded on to installing the custom ROM.
Any kind souls out there who can help me or give me some links that I could refer to?
Thank you in advance! :fingers-crossed:

You need to do a complete wipe and install a stock rom and verify if the phone works. If it does then start again with rooting etc. If not return it for a replacement or repair.

Just install the custom Rom over the top of the old one, no need to do factory reset or wipe anything. The custom roms are based on stock anyway.
Try that and see how it goes.

I know that this thread is very old but I didn't want to make a new topic on something that was similiar to the problem I was having, apoliges if making a new thread was the right thing. I just really need you all's help.
I'm in need of some assistance.
I have my Galaxy Mega on Metro Pcs. Woke up today and decided to root it or at least ( attempt ) to root it myself. I looked up a couple tutorials and eventually did it. BUT, due to me being inexperienced I didn't make a "backup" of anything.
So now, I'm stuck with a Galaxy Mega that seems to be rooted on another platform other than Metro's. I also am unable to use the Wifi feature, and it seems that I can't transfer files via USB - PC
I tried reverting my mistake but I don't think I'm flashing the right thing. Can someone please guide me in the right direction as to flashing this Mega back to the way it was. I don't want to bother with the root anymore, I just want the phone back to the way it was.
I'd really appreciate any help you gentlemen could give me.

I could be doing something wrong, but I'm sure I'm choosing the proper Mega Model.
After I click country, there is no option for America/United States

[Q] Factory reset without messing things up

Hey ,I've just got a i9100 from my father , it has stock rom 4.0.3 ,unrooted of course ,but it has so many apps installed on it ,So I wanna format it and then Factory reset it.
The thing is after doing some research I read that doing Factory reset kills the internal memory ,and leads to soft ,or hard brick.
Does this only happen when I reset from recovery ? or even when resetting from the settings menu?
And If it's so ,How can I reset it without changing the rom ,or rooting? cuz I don't intend to root it for a while.
Thanks in advance

Hmm hard to say, can't find any advice about that on google. For me it looks like full wipe shouldn't be done.
You can download emmc brick bug check from play store first and test if you have this bug. If no I guess you can flash.
If yes I'd suggest you to flash another kernel anyway, for safety reasons, later you can deactivate super user rights
Rooting can possibly easy be done with framaroot here on xda.
Good luck
