Themes•CM9 over CM7• - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
Cm7 themes are dying but fortunately many cm9/10 themes work on it.
Some result in bootloop!
Anypne knows anything about editing the apks so as to make th work?
Peeps, many devices wont have stable ics cyanogen. We could help them.
So far Ive found:
Install cm9 theme on sd card and then apply it so even if it reboots, it wont be a boot loop.
If the statusbar fails to appear/ is blank, launch screen filter or any app that has a notification.
Changing the density helps in many cases.
So anyone can add anything?

[Q] Mik's CM7 6.5.5 Theme problem

I've downloaded and applied a few themes from this thread (applied via cm7 Theme Chooser), but for some reason the themes only change the phone's appearance partially. In the screenshots for example, you've got a new lockscreen, the market is different and the main dock is a different colour. But when I apply these themes, none of those change, nor do I know how to change them. No option to do so in the settings of ADW nor CM7 menu...
Am I doing something wrong?

you should look thru the post the lock screen changes are usually zip files and wont work cause they are mdpi and i think we are hdpi you can reaserch it im pretty sure but i could be wrong thats also why the rest of the themes dont work if you want to ask you should ask the thread you pulled the themes from
Try to make a reboot after aplying a theme. Mine are all working great.

No, I think our device is mdpi, because hdpi themes don't work. I also tried to reboot but it didn't help... I dunno...
Eh...
- first of all, reboot is required after changing themes, unless you use Notification Restart app
- second, this device is MDPI obviously, Google it
- additional mods, such as the lockscreen, do require patching of framework via MetaMorph or ZipThemer. This can only be done on deodexed ROMs. mik's ROM is not deodexed by default, you need to deodex and reflash it yourself.

1. I use notification restart app.
2. Isn't that what I just said?
2. I didn't know that, but I have already used MetaMorph to change the lockscreen.

Well, that obviously will not work correctly, as explained. Best case it will bail out, worst case it will mess up the files.
P.S. I sincerely do NOT advise to use the MetaMorph app, since it does not backup anything, and the way it patches and "reboots" the device is just a nice WTF. ZipThemer is way safer and way more controllable.

Well as I understand it only messes with the lockscreen files, so even if someone manages to mess everything up with it, it's easy to fix.
But thanks, I'll try ZipThemer instead

It can mess up anything from framework-res.apk to SystemUI.apk to Phone.apk to overwriting your system fonts (big thumbs down to Android font "management") and even more - all depending on the scope of customization done in the mod.
ZipThemer:
1/ Shows you exactly which files will be modified.
2/ Makes a flashable backup of them.
3/ Makes a flashable ZIP for the mod.
4/ Does not half-reboot your device, making you wonder WTH is going on.

Gingerstreak 2.4.4 - Big problem with Firefox for Android?

Hello all,
First off, thanks to everyone involved in the creation of this awesome ROM for the Streak. Finally a stable Gingerbread ROM for the Streak!
Now, on to the issue. Having finally been convinced to try out the Firefox Sync feature again (the first time it well and truly failed) I had set up my desktop and installed Firefox for Android via the App Market. Then, lo and behold, upon starting it up rather than the standard Google start screen I was expecting the entirety of the text on the app was replaced with a large selection of random symbols rather than the standard Latin alphabet. This, obviously, has rendered the application rather useless to me. I can confirm, through the languages screen (reached via random stabs at keys on the option menu), that only Latin characters are affected with the other alphabets seemingly untroubled.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is or how it may be fixed?
I'm getting that same issue. It has something to do with Firefox detecting region and language upon first time opening. I'm pretty sure it can be fixed thru build.prop and changing region but since I'm not familiar with any of that maybe someone else can help us. Instead of Firefox I'm using opera n dolphin hd but I really wanna try firefox

This is caused by the font used in GingerStreak 2.4.4 and it was mentioned by Steve, that he wouldn't change it since only Firefox seems affected.
2.4.2 has the stock android fonts, replace DroidSans.ttf and DroidSansBold.ttf in /system/fonts/, reboot and you should be good.
P.S. The problem with firefox was discussed in the announce thread for 2.4.4, so you should really there first, before posting a separate thread.
Thanks for the solution, but unfortunately that failed. Every time I replaced the files using root explorer my Streak failed to boot after restarting (getting stuck on the BIOS screen/Android animation on the Gingerstreak stock boot)!
I also tried replacing the files in the install zip with the ones you suggested and reflashing the OS without any success.

That is odd, i never had a problem after swapping out the fonts. Have you tried deleting the old files and then copying the new ones, instead of overwriting?

[Xperia P]Call lag in stock JB rom

Can anyone tell if there is a quick and easy fix to call lag - force incallui to memory or something in stock Sony JB ROM? I know in some 4.4 AOSP roms it is fixed, but do you know how can I interpret it in stock rom?
There's xposed module called 'App settings' that supposedly let's you lock certain apps into memory (along other features), but it doesn't seem to work. Any help appreciated
Would love a fix for the Xperia U to, but I'm afraid that the stock roms will never get a decent Phone. Devs have gone a long way with the sources, but they are only used in the next versions. Blame Sony for never fixing the Phone. It's broken since ICS. They never bothered to fix it.
After looking into several tricks to get the PhoneApp locked into the memory, I tried to install xposed framework with the module "app settings". In this module I've made com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook and com.android.phone resident. This means these two apps should be locked into the memory. The most recent calls I've received went smooth without any lagg. Testing further if this is a permanent solution for stock rom. I'm running devswifts v7 light stock jb.
old method:
creating local.prop in /data and adding the following lines
- sys.keep_app_1=com.android.phone
- sys.keep_app_2=com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook
did not work for me
When you have a custom kernel you can try to play with different governers and schedulers, this worked for me.

Andromeda/substratum issues

Hello, I was trying to install some substratum themes specific to emui according to the ones that I downloaded from Play store, anyway, everything is good until starts to create layers, just shows the message about creating the layer, and the bar never advance, just keeps in the same point forever.
Does anyone know how to fix this?, I tried reverting back to stock theme (from themes) first and then trying to install from substratum, but didn't work.
Thanks in advance =)
up on this. Having same issue on honor play
