ONE vs ONE X+ which should i choose? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys currently i have a HTC ONE X and my upgrade is due this month. I have been offered 2 deals by o2 to stay with them on my current £26pm package.
New HTC one £30 upfront
or the HTC one X+ for no additional charge
both include unlimited calls / texts and 1gb data.
Which one should i go for and why? i mainly use my phone for music and social networking, with the odd game of 8 ball pool.
- ASR

HTC One X+ has better hardcore gaming (for now but needs root to break free)
HTC One has better low light in camera, HTC One X has better day light
HTC One has better screen
HTC One has better sound on all speakers
HTC One has better battery consumption
Metal vs Polycarbonate, both excellent build your choice
1% difference between the One X and X+
for music and social the One is definitly much better (Thanks to boomsound, Zoe and blinkfeed)
go with the One

Sounds like both of the phones are overpowered for what your phone needs are.

I just love the design, interface and specs.

I don't think we can say that just yet. We need a proper comparison first but if you've already found one I'd like to check it out.

Given what the OP said he uses the phone for I would recommend he/she save their money. None of you would recommend a computer that costs 2000$ to someone wanting it for facebook, youtube, and skype specifically, so why would you recommend a newer more expensive phone?

HTC One should be your choice. The Full HD screen and Li-Po battery says all!

Tried both didnt feel that much difference uaing the device itself approx. same speed and performance but that extra 0.2 kicks in while gaming but i really will go with the one

which is better? htc onex or sgs3?

which is the best of these two?
They are both about the same. Both brands are of great quality. I actually prefer Samsung over HTC because I think, that HTC hardware(CPU, GPU) is not as good as it should be.
vote for S3, smartest, fastest, friendly
Well I think I will go with Samsung Galaxy S3
SGS3 Hardware is superior to the Tegra 3 inside the One X but the One X "feels" better imo, just should try both of em.

Sgs3 by far.
sure sgs3. but take a look on new Sony models - their design & materials are great - maybe you can give them a chance?
by giving this title to this thread u are about to start a war here on xda..:highfive:
OnTopic go for GS3! :silly:
I think the Htc one X is better than the Sgs3 because i like the design of the Htc and I prefer Sense than Touchwizz

Also remember that the HTC One X isn't exactly the same as the HTC Evo 4G LTE... The Evo 4G LTE is even more similar to the Galaxy S3... But this decision is my current dilemma too. Sounds like both can have great radios for clear reception and there are also a few defective ones out there. The radio is one of my personal concerns because Samsung has had some issues with them in the past but from what I'm hearing they're improved the radio a lot on the S3. Let us know what you decide!

HTC One X
Offering you lightning-fast web browsing, remarkable picture quality and seamless gaming visuals due to the powerful quad-core processor. You’ll love the minimalist design and the camera that captures every moment (even in low light) with crisp, vivid, beautiful photos. It also lets you take a photo while shooting HD video.
Samsung Galaxy S3
Gorgeous 4.8″ Super AMOLED touchscreen, new voice features, faster processor, good call battery life, Android 4.0 ICS, new camera tricks and nifty new software.
Although heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S II due to a clear 306PPI 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, it’s still thin and looks better than an iPhone 4S retina screen. The S Voice wake-up feature is secure and most voice functions work very well.
For me,I like S3 more.

You can't get Sense on GS3, and usually can't get Touchwiz on anything but GS3.
The One X is the phone that may not tick all the spec boxes, but there is a certain quality to it that the GS3 lacks. The GS3 does everything, but at the end of the day, it isn't as exciting as an HTC phone might be.
Both are about the same when they are perfect units, but the GS3 may have some things that you must need. If you need removable battery or microSD, then Samsung has already won the battle.

Coming from a One S, is it worth to upgrade to the One X+?

From the title itself, is it worth to upgrade to One X+? I mean, one downfall of the One X, is faster battery drain compared to the One S.. and the One S seems to be so much faster than the One X, but now the One X+ have a different chipset and now having a 2100 mAh battery.. do you think it's worth it? I've read some posts in the One X+'s forum that the battery is improved but not that much.. but now, they managed to have 4-5 hrs screen time, which is not by far from the One S.. and the JB and Sense 4+ is buttery smooth compared to the X's stock.. can the One S still beat the One X+?
Btw, i also do like the 64gb storage because 16gb isn't quite enough for me being a mobile gamer and a music lover, that's why i'm considering the upgrade..

If I get the money and I can unlock the One X+ on O2 I will be selling my One S and getting this. 1000x better screen way more storage and faster chipset. Battery is never going to be as good but the One S has a q hd samoled display so it's going to last a long time.

Haha yea, the battery life is better many reviewers have said. Not amazingly better because the cpu is more powerful on the one x+ so most of the added battery power caters for that. Should be able to get a day with it which is the main thing . I want it badly as well lol. Was thinking about the nexus 4 but it's just problem after problem after problem on the n4 forum!

I did a little cleaning. Please remember that we do not accept that rude and offensive language that was used in the last posts.
This is the Q&A Section, so pretty much any question that has to do with the respective phone is allowed. And it is also allowed to ask whether a user that answers has sufficient base to give a substantial answer. No reason to get rude and offensive for that.
Thanks for your understanding.

For starters OP the HOS was never faster than the HOX. It's like my mum trying to say her dual core centrino laptop is better than my quad core i7.. This is just something HOS users have invented to make themselves feel less insecure about buying a cheaper phone. ( Not that they need too. The HOS is a great phone). As for the battery. My friend owns a single core HTC SXL. It has a great battery life because of it's lower power. Now my HOX+ can pretty much go blow for blow with it in terms of battery, and lasts longer with the power saver mode enabled.
End of the day, it depends how you use your phone. If you use it as a phone/browser/media device. There is no need to upgrade. If you want to play the latest games or show off to your friends, your best upgrading to a HOX+ / SGS III or Note II.

Well that's a very professional answer, compared to some HOX+ users here who treat other people who have inferior phone to theirs, as dumb ****.. i really appreciate your response sir..
Now, about my plan to upgrade, after what i've heard from you, i really want to buy the HOX+ asap. i realized that 4.3" screen, 16gb storage and a battery that barely last a day with moderate use isn't enough for me.. before i bought my HOS, i really like the One X but i've read several reviews like in phonearena, gsmarena and here at xda that there are so many issues with the HOX like the short battery life, overheating problems, and the camera lens being vulnerable to scratches because it is really protruded, so i just bought the HOS. But seeing all that spectacular specs of the HOX+ and all the great things it has to offer, i fell out of love with my HOS.. and because i'm really a heavy user, mobile gamer and music lover, then the HOX+ is the perfect phone to upgrade to.

On my HOX+ the rubber around the raised camera bezel is just slightly raised compared to the glass. So when i put my phone down, the glass never makes contact with the surface. I don't know if this is the same for all HOX+'s though, as i have read threads by people claiming that there camera is not centered on the back of the phone. But from my experience with the HOX+, the quality is great. I guess you will just have to cross your fingers and hope you get a good model

It's good that the camera lens protrusion is now solved in the HOX+, and yes i've also read that some models, the camera eye isn't centered, i guess i have to inspect first the unit i will get before i pay for it. Good to know all issues to avoid before buying.
Btw, i never consider the sgs3 nor the note 2 because: 1) i was never impressed with the build quality of samsung mobile being plastic, it looks very cheap. 2) touchwiz UI isn't appealing compared to sense UI, i don't plan to root my phone yet within a year so i can't live with it's UI. 3) the One X+ looks sexier and more premium than any other samsung mobile. 4) sgs3 and note 2 is too mainstream, over rated, and almost all people use this and braging that they have the best and the latest phone out there, i don't want to be one of them. 5) super-lcd2 is more appealing to me than samoled, (though it's very ironic because my One S have samoled).
So i guess i will definitely get the One X+ if i can sell my One S, then i could get the money to buy one.. i'm afraid my One S will never have a JB update because it isn't one of the flagships today.

[Q] Convince me: One X+ over Galaxy S3

Ok. I'm planning to upgrade from my LG G2x (Wind Optimus 2X) to either with Galaxy S3 or the One X+ (North American - Telus Canada versions). I'm leaning to the S3, but I want to see if people on this forum can change my mind. My criteria:
- Real-life performance (benchmarks are moot)
- Battery-life
- Camera performance
- Construction quality
- Future proofing (ROM development both 3rd party or manufacturer)
Coming from the LG G2x, I've learned a lot of lesson on areas I've gotten burned. That's one reason I've ruled out the Nexus 4 (being LG) and that fact that 16GB is not freaking enough. Google is smoking dope if they think we can get everything off the cloud and don't need much storage...not when we're on a plane or in the subway. I've learned that nVidia is terrible and doesn't support or provide source code for the Tegra (at least for the Tegra 2), I've learned, that though the processor was great, the G2x was totally short on RAM 384MB (usable), I've learn that given all these issues both LG and developers here and there weren't spending much effort supporting the device.
I much prefer the design and construction of the One X+ over the Galaxy S3, I also prefer, Sense over TouchWiz, but I'm open to trying new ROMs, skins, and launchers. I prefer things to work well stock, out of the box, but again if I need to rolling in a new ROM (or just a nice update on Android, I'm happy to do so.)
So I've probably already convinced myself based on my criteria, the S3 is better choice for me, even though, I dread the look and the feel in hand, and the fact that it's as ubiquitous as the iPhone. So someone convince me otherwise to go with the One X+ instead.

It depends on what ROM you plan to use for battery life. I can't make a solid answer about battery yet, but I will say if you plan on gaming it eats up battery pretty quickly. IMO, I prefer the One X camera. Audio quality on the one X plus seems better as well. My advice would be to go to a store and try both phones out and see which one is best for you.

The battery is about the same as my s3, that I owned for 4 months it's about 8-19 hours depending on how heavy I use my phone mostly tapatalk YouTube pulse facebook talk and texting all day with some GPS navigation. The camera is about the same, (HTC camera software blows Samsung's out the water) HTC one x wins all the way in my book, the phone works great s3 software is still ics stock while the one x is jellybean.
One thing I wanna note is the one x plus has no lagg at all the speakers on the s3 internal and external sucks compared to onex+

For me personally there is also a non technical/specs related reason. I've always been a fan of HTC devices. Design, build quality and reliability is the best among Android devices. Eventhough competing brands might offer a specs wise slightly better device, I keep supporting HTC by buying their products. I want the company to stay in the Android phone business! Agree 100% on HTC as company. In fact, I was using HTC for my two previous devices prior to going to the LG G2x. Again big regret going to LG. But times have changed a bit and Samsung is really pulling ahead in the Android market. My biggest concern with One X+ reading around is the battery life. Right now it seems some people are doing fine with while others are having some serious battery drain issues. I might need to get the device and try it a couple of days to really find out for myself.

Isn't there a 14-30 day period when u buy a phone that u can return it no questions asked with a new contract? If so, why does anyone need to tell anyone answers to questions they can figure out on their own? Lol. Get the S3, play with it for 10 days, return it for hox+, return it in 10 days, then stick with the one u like best. If u can't figure out battery life in 10 days then a smartphone probably ain't for u, lol! Some people
If you had to choose between phones, choose between the Optimus G or the HTC One X+. I say this because I personally want to spend $200 on a phone with 1.) Good Build Quality and 2.) not outdated Hardware (the S3 has a dual core, all phones now have quad core). If you want many ROMs, then get the S3. I've had all 3 phones, and I'm sticking with the One X+. Battery life is on par with S3, but the Optimus G has the best out of all. One X+ screen is on par with Optimus G, and they both blow the S3 screen. S3 and One X+ cameras are both good, Optimus G's is mediocre.
Hope this helped.

I'm in Canada, so things are a little different with our carriers. My current provider had a 30min voice and 50MB data usage limit to void the device return policy even though the period is 14 days. I'll have to look into Telus's policy more closely if they also have something similar. That and we have 3 yr contracts and better healthcare...
I just returned my One X+. I wanted it because I really like the 64GB of internal storage. Plus I was getting bored with my Galaxy S3. I knew I was losing RAM but figured it was worth the trade off (the U.S. GS3 has 2GB RAM vs 1GB for One X+).
I have the GS3 with AOKP and after using the One X+ I realized it is NOT faster than my GS3 like I was thinking it would be. I knew the One X+ was not as friendly to root and flash ROMs like the GS3 but I was willing to just leave it stock. It's not that it lagged or anything. It works great as is. It's just that having the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 (Nexus 4) it did not offer the performance boost I was looking for. As for the storage, my GS3 does have less internal storage but it does accept SD cards.
It does play better looking games than the US GS3 with its Adreno 225. It will get really hot playing the high end games but I had a case on so I didn't feel it as much. The One X+ GPU is not better than the iPhone 5 GPU or even the Nexus 4 with its Adreno 320. I knew that before hand but was still fine with that. I just mention it here in case you didn't know.
As for battery life, I had a PowerSkin on my One X+ that offers some protection AND has spare battery power if and when needed. So I didn't have a battery problem myself.
If your fine not having a device that's as friendly to hack and has as much developer support then I would say the One X+ would be good over the GS3. I didn't like that by keeping my One X+ stock that I couldn't disable all the bloat but it was a small price to pay I guess.

You do realize the one x+ has a 12 core gpu. IPhone 5 is a quad gpu and I'm not sure about the s4 pro.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
lol. You believe because it has more cores that makes it better? The “cores" are not equal at all. The GPU's are different. And although you see that number you are very mistaken to think that makes it more powerful. Its not. Its not even close to being the same.
No the iPhone 5 has a 3 core GPU. The iPad last I check has the quad core GPU to push all those extra pixels. Benchmarks can show how many frames the devices run loading and playing certain things. The iPhone 5 in mine and others who done it handles and plays way smoother with mores frames in those intense benchmark 3D tests.
I forgot some people can't accept a device they like or has being less powerful and beaten by other devices. In whatever area. I didn't mean to make think the One X+ GPU is not good. It just really is not better than the other two I listed. Once my devices GPUs are beaten by others I have no problem accepting that. In fact, I said the Tegra-3 was better than my Adreno 225 in my GS3.

Why would anyone bother convincing you. Its your flipping choice.
If you wanna follow the crowed like a sheep then you will get the s3 any way.
Ow by the way the s3 is made for humans, we aliens use the one x...

I'm passing on the Optimus G and Nexus 4 as well given my bad experience with my LG G2x...it's probably the worst experience I've had with a phone.

Which one to buy???

Hi ....Please help me in deciding which one to buy ... HTC One X+ or Iphone 5 or LG google nexus 4 ...I have never used any high- end phones like these... but I want to experience one .. Please give me some suggestions... I had decided to buy HOX+ but after reading WIFI issues and other issues, I want to think twice . I am not a heavy user .My main main requirements are :
1. Perfect sound quality ( without any distortion)
2.Perfect Camera
and 3. Ease of use
You can suggest me other phones also . But shold be flagship phones and the phone should have good resell value
If you can get it I'd say the Nexus 4, but it's been out of stock online. I love my Xperia Ion,not sure I'd change it for anything other than the Nexus 4. My wife has a Galaxy S III and loves it. If I could get a Nexus 4 tho I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. I must say that I'd give the HTC 8X Windows Phone 8 a look for easy of use, good size screen, easy to setup, there isn't alot of customization available for it,but the camera is really good and it has Beats Audio built in for good music. There are more apps for Android, but there are still a bunch for it and more coming up everyday. Go by a local store and give the Windows 8 Phone a look and the Galaxy S III and maybe the iPhone 5, but the screen size on the iPhone isn't anywhere near as big as either HTC or Samsung phone.

Thank u very much for your suggestion ... Actually , I dont like windows phones that much because 1. Bluetooth sharing problem , that is.. windows to windows only 2. Same boring live tiles and no change in background and like that ... Now, the only pne left is Nexus 4 ... Right now , I am in between Nexus 4 and HTC One X+ ....I have read that , the camera and sound quality of HOX+ is better in comparisn to N4 ( May be that would depend on user ), JB 4.1 + htc sence + is better that stock android (again depends on user ), battery life better on HOX+ .
I am ready to buy HOX+ , but the wifi problem and other issues threatens me a lot.

I've had absolutely no issues with my wifi. Infact my HOX+ still gets a signal from my router in my back garden. Where as my GNote 10.1 will not.

I wasn't even aware of any Wi-Fi or other issues. Aren't you referring to the one x Wi-Fi issue? That's not a problem on the one x+ anymore. I've been using a one x+ since it came out and haven't experienced any troubles with it so far, so I don't think you should be afraid of any issues... If anything, you should be afraid of the hardware quality of the n4 I guess. The reputation of LG isn't that great, while HTC is known for its hardware quality.
Hello!
In shorts.
I have HOX+, I had some fun with nexus 4 and i have little experience with IPhone 5
Nexus 4 is best in terms of value for money.
HOX+ is great(i will not use word best, but for me it's best for my need) in terms camera and music* (it depends what type of music you listen and quality of format).
IPhone5 is simpler and safer to use* (controversial, but accorind to my experience people easier learn iOS)
WiFi issue? eee i don't have any and i tried on home wifi ,wifi in train and works smoothly. I will worry more about battery to be honest as bettery is enough for minor use as mobile will struggle badly in intence use (but battery pack connected via usb solved this problem in my case)
I chosen HTC one x+ because as it better my purpose (music, music, music,do picture of bizzare things, all in one tool, android development )
btw. i am not expert.i just told my experience.

Well... The WIFI problem seems to an indivisual problem.
So, I am 95% convinced to buy the HOX+... Now, the Price matters a lot. I mean in India HOX+ costs Rs 40k where as Nexus 4 costs 34k.I was thinking about the resell value of the phone. After 6 -8 months , SGS 4 with a 3 Ghz processor is going to hit the market. This samsung beast is going to reduce the resell value for sure. At that time, I will have to sell my HOX+ for say 25k or N4 for 25k .... If I buy HOX+ , I will going to have a loss of 5 k or may be more ....
BTW : Thank u very much
i thought it was gonna be so simple when upgrading next week to a oneX+,but i've been put off now lol with all these issues your reporting or have seen, thanks,im depressed now ha ha,wtf do i go for now

To the OP, I'd suggest the iPhone 5 for what you're looking for. Nexus 4 is out cus this is 2013, a device with less than 16gb of memory, sad. Also making the mistake of the iPhone 4, would never again get a device with a glass case, lol! You also want a great camera which the new iPhone provides and the hox+ sucks in low light pics. Only good during the day for pics. Also u want perfect sound quality, well if u use Bluetooth to talk than again the hox+ is out of the question. If u don't rely on Bluetooth talking then the hox+ has amazing sound quality everywhere else imo! Even louder and better speaker quality than my wifes iPhone 5.
Now if u can wait at least 3 months for an upgrade I would hold out! New line of smartphones is where it's out. Grf is suppose to come out with the M7 whatever that will be and the galaxy IIII. Should both be out by March, for sure first sister 2013. Hopefully the new HTC flagship device will come correct with quality Bluetooth and fixed camera issues.
@ OP, I agree with deeznuts (LMAO), iphone 5 sounds like a good choice for you. It has FANTASTIC sound quality, both speakers and headphones, its easy to use and its powerful. Plus the design is amazing, personally I'm not a fan of IOS but since you never really experienced any high end smart phones, the iphone 5 is a great start. After that you can upgrade to android ( its not a shot at apple just the truth).

Same here go for the iPhone 5, your new to smartphones so go with that and you will never run into any issues . That being said, ios is slightly dull and boring.
The Nexus 4 isn't as bad of a choice as a lot of other people think, it's respectable in every aspect except for 4G connectivity. And tbh you can't go wrong with any of them. So just have a go at them in the shop and see how it goes.

I agree with iPhone 5 being the best choice for OP. It has incredible easy of use and arguably the best camera / sound quality combo. For me HTC One X+ is the best choice for me, but mine is rooted and has a custom ROM. That's probably more than a 1st time smart phone buy want to gets into.
Since the author of this post is considering the iPhone I would just go for it.
Seems like you are perfectly content with Apple's reign/shackles...
Do it.

Personally I would recommend the HTC one x+. The only issue I have with the phone is Bluetooth audio quality in phone calls, which should be resolved in an update. Camera is very good, some low light pictures are grainy.
There is no perfect smart phone all have some thing wrong. New iPhone 5 has camera issues with a purple hue due to the lens cover. Aluminium case scratches very easily. Exchange mail/calendar bugs (May have been fixed)
As far as ease of use I had an iPhone for 3 years and find most things easier to do on android since ics+. IPhone does some things better but at a price of loss of control over your phone. If I want a program to be a default app I can do that on android not on ios. ITunes is a nightmare.
Either way they are both high end smart phones and would be happy with either. If you can try the HTC and return it if you don't like it. Here in the USA I get 2 weeks to try a phone before I have to commit to the purchase.
Good luck

Only thing is in 6 months there is already rumoured to be an iPhone 6 coming out according to BGR. The one thing I don't like about the Apple Mac stuff is with iTunes your stuck if you've bought songs, unless your hallways knowledgable about it, it's a pain to pull your music from your ldevice. It's "cool" and "hip" and all, but I think imho I'd stick with WinMo 8 or Android.

[Q] One X or One X+

I am looking to purchase a brand new (off contract) HTC One X or One X+ off ebay for AT&T. I want one of them for rooting and messing around with custom roms etc..., I am new to rooting but it looks pretty straight forward with the tool kit listed on this site. The One X+ is about $200 more than the original One X, do you think the newer One X+ is worth the extra $200?
Yes for battery and storage alone

The speed and smoothness too.

Not to mention it's free from most design issues that plagued the HOX like the Wi-Fi issue.
I'd say it's worth it. With the HOX you have to choose between quad core or LTE. The updated Tegra 3 in the HOX+ lets you have both and a higher clock speed.

honestly, i would stay clear of the One X+ because of the following reasons:
Terrible performance, specially on 3D games
phone gets hot. really hot when you are playing games
terrible battery life
camera is aweful
the camera gets scratched very easily
very hard to repair if damaged
i bought one, had it for 4 months and just sold it, believe me, it's terrible, i wish someone told me this. when i asked everyone said good things about it...
also if custom roms and mods are your thing, i tell you now that HTC has made it very hard for devs. i used numerous builds of AOKP and CM10.1 etc and they all worked ok but camera performance was terrible, even worse than stock app and lots of niggels with the audio driver

The only negative thing I have to say about this device so far is that the display scratches pretty easy. I haven't dropped my device or put it face down and the bottom area where the capacitive keys are is filled with hairline scratches. Gaming on my phone is pretty good. I guess it depends if the game is Tegra optimized or not.

I recommend clearly the One x +!
Ok. This is my first post to this forum and I wanted to participate in the Talkshow.
I've bought the first one x and found the device very well. Since I was a small smartphone freak but I have a One x sold and bought me one x + and must say WOW!
Not only that it has the larger memory of 64 GB, it is also significantly faster than the one x.
It is fast even with the original software, but since I have the new Viper Rome the device runs like a speed demon.
So I suggest clearly the One x +!

That's project butter for you, I highly doubt any smoothness is a result from an extra .2GHz in clock speed, which is really the only performance difference between the two. The devices are equally capable of running android, the hox+ is just a little bit better at high-end stuff.

The 200mhz is not irrelevant. It's also not the cause of the speed increase. That comes from the newer generation of Tegra 3 soc's. Just like a 3rd gen I7 is slightly faster than a 2nd gen one with the same clockspeed.

I bet your your display is not even scratched. HTC put a Oleophobic coating on the screen. This coating is quite easy to scratch. It's also just as easy to replace
