im very new in the forum thats my first post
i tried to install an app that required a rebbot in my gt-i9300, i rebooted and i got an pop-up window said that factory mode has crashed.

i did all but my galaxy says that its unable to chmod /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode: no such file or directory
then i realised that i have no efs directory and that i can download one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888193
so' my question is,
if i will flash it with odin, will the error will dissapear?
and if the answer is yes,
i understand that some people flash it because they have no imei and the phone dont recognize their sim card.
and my fear it can happen to me if ill flash it
some help please?

Well, obviously you can. That's what an efs backup is for
Copy the tar file to your PC and download the Android SDK.
Once the Android SDK is installed, open up a command prompt.
Once you're in the command prompt, CD to the directory where the ADB executables and libraries are.
Usually it's here:

cd C:\android-sdk\platform-tools\
Once you're in the directory where the files are, unpack the TAR file and type the following code:

adb start-server
adb push <path-to-your-unpacked-TARfile> /efs/
adb kill-server

maybe i can go to someone that already has a adb and see if he can fix it

I believe you'll also need to change files owners and access rights for it to work.
Edit : if you don't have any efs folder, I think your efs partition might not be mounted. Type "mount" in a terminal emulator and check if a line refers to /efs (that should be block 3)

no i understood' i wasnt at factory mode at all!
all the time i had imei and call function , the only problem was that factory test has stopped.
so, i downloaded titanum backup pro and turned factory test app off.
now my galaxy went back to normal all works as well!

i'm on clockworkmod 5.0.2.3, my device is galaxy tab 10.1 P7510. i backup it with Titanium Backup. i've done CWM backup, i do know the CWM's backup file is sdcard/clockworkmod, but i can't delete it, either on my tablet or computer!! i've tried ES file and RE, nothing changes,,,,and the CWM file is as large as 1G, but i can't see anything in it! is that a new function of 5.0.2.3, to hide and protect its file? i've format the whole SDcard on my computer, and everything's gone, BUT the CLOCKWORKMOD file!!!!!! i'm crazy!!!!!

try makeing a new backup file in recovery as this should overright the last one
the file is probably corrupt
or using root explorer find the file and check the that folder is R/W
i dnt know if you can doo this on the sd card
You should be able to delete any file on the "SD card". Personally, although I use titanium backup as a great tool, CWM's backup is so easy and reliable for me.
thank u but it doesn't work. new backup changes nothing but make it biger, it seems that i can delete it by RE, but if i refresh i appears again. is there any way to format?

yep, it doesn't work.....finally i flash the rom with formating scripts through odin, it seems xwkg4, and flash back. now everything's gone~
You can rename and delete backups with the rom manager app from the market.

Are you talking about the nandroid backup? If so, open the CWM recovery and the option to delete backups is there...
Also, you do realize that the CWM backup is not the same thing as the titanium backup, right? CWM backup is the whole system; titanium is just apps and settings...

hi, i got the same issue and have tried to figure it out for hours and turn to here for help finally. my clockworkmod recovery's version is 5.5.0.4, probably. and i flashed 5.8.3.1 minutes ago.
i've tried to delete the backups in rom manager, but still can't and was told error occured while deleting.
and i tried to remove them in adb shell, rm command, and it says permission denied.

In recovery (CWM) or android? Try with the -f switch (rm -rf), and do it in recovery from your PC (don't forget to mount the partition).
BTW, I can delete cwm backups in android with Root Explorer without problem.

sure about that, i got the recovery from clockworkmod.com.
i formatted it in windows, and everything was deleted but the clockworkmod folder! ghostly exist
something i just thought.. i'm using windows 7, when the tablet connect to my laptop, windows recognize it as a portable device. it's special i guess. is there any way to let it be removable disk?

One way is, in cwm, select "mount and storage" > "mount /data"
The other way is with adb (you're going to use it any way)

If you keep getting the same error, try deleting everything inside the backup directory, I mean the 2005-06-01.07.50.08 directory.

I'm a little more of a newb here, and Don't understand the above stuff. I'm having the exact same issue.
ROM Manager basically just messed up my phone to the point that I can't delete backups in clockworkmod. Also the backups are showing 0 bytes in size even though they've taken up 3 gigs on my SDCard
I Got ROM manager to install the latest CWM, which is great. I Then was trying it out, and noticed you can do a backup right from it. It Loads CWM and performs a normal Nandroid backup.
Here is the issue, It shows that it has take up the space on my SDCard, but the folder contents are empty in clockworkmod/backups
Also, I can't delete them at all. I Tried ES Explorer and nothing worked. Said denied.
I installed the Galaxy S3 Retail Mode found in Google Play but had problems setting it up so I uninstalled it.
Now, I have a folder in /sdcard/ named RetailMode that contains photos used by the RetailMode application. But no matter what I do, I can't delete it. Can't delete any of the photos either.
I tried changing owners and changing permissions but failed. I even tried via adb shell.
Any ideas of how I can delete it?

Could try running a KIES update or one of the Jellybean OTA's that will wipe the internal sd card
Are you trying to do so as root? If you open a terminal (download Android Terminal from the market) and run:

Tried that first. No go.
Since Retail Mode is installed and activated as a Device Administrator, I think it modified some settings. I just don't know what those settings are.
I don't want to re-flash so hopefully someone can help me with this...

first you have to deactivate RetailMode as an administrator. than check if is also disabled in Accessibility also, just in case. than try to delete it. It might work.

Had this one before but the app was smart app protector. Deleted it but it left a folder and cant delete it even in the pc. But iwas able to delete it using root explorer.

Install a BusyBox from the market (if you already have it, reinstall). if "rm" is trying to remove "-rf", it's NOT a standard "rm", which can explain your problems. Then try again.
After having followed the above: Should you get a "permission denied" as root (execute 'whoami' on the console to make sure you're root!)
then the file(s) is most probably flagged as immutable.
Executing the following will then resolve the issue: chattr -iR /sdcard/RetailMode
This is what I get when I issue that command: reading flags on /sdcard/RetailMedia: innapropriate ioctl for device

Hi guys, having an odd problem.
I've made some nandroid backups (about three) via CWM Recovery, and I can't seem to browse to them, or delete them.
It's definitely taking up space, and I'm not sure what to do now.
A backup that I made straight to my external SD card however, seems to be browse-able, so I'm a bit confused now.
Attached are some screenshots from ES File Browser (with root access turned on).
The last screenshot is going to /storage/sdcard0/clockworkmod/ (same directory, but now I can't seem to see anything about "backups").
I've also tried to delete these backups straight from CWM Recovery, but CWM says that it can't access the folder.
Oddly enough, if I do another backup (straight to internal), it seems to put all the files in /sdcard/Clockworkmod/backups but never to be accessed again.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion, but nope, that didn't work. (Obviously tried that first).
The folder was shown as empty via Windows.
After a lot of digging and trying different things (including Root Explorer and Terminal Emulator), I've managed to delete it.
I'll post the instructions so other people who may have similar problems in the future can follow it.
First, you'll need ADB and you'll need to reboot into CWM Recovery.
Once you've gotten that sorted, boot into CWM Recovery and go to "mount and storage" and then select "mount /data".
This will mount the /data structure which we need to use.
Afterwards in CMD, use the following:

adb shell
After this, you should be logged in as ~ (root)
Proceed to go into the directory using the cd function. (PROTIP: Use the ls function to check where you're going.)
You need to get to ../clockworkmod/backup/
You'll find that you can finally access the /backup/ folder, and you'll then be able to delete the files. Please note that the below command will delete ALL the files within this folder.

Afterwards, do

cd ..
to get back to the ../clockworkmod/ folder and then run the below code to delete the now empty /backup/ folder:

I tried installing orignal rom using ODIN but geting boot loop and the phone is not booting. On going into recovery i can see an error efs/ corupted or something like that. I have the backup of my EFS folder in tar.gz format however dont know how to install the same and recover my phone as not able to boot to android.
Please help me if someone can work it out. My phone has just 3 days of warranty left and it does not shows rooted anywhere except the count of installation is about 32 and rom says official and kernel says custom.
Please if someone can help me restore my phone back in working condition i shall always remain thankfull.

It is essential that you have a backup of the EFS partition and a way to place it back - the first two ways that I would think about are:
a) use a good recovery - like Philz recovery, that has commands to restore EFS
b) if the format of the backup is not exactly right you might be able to boot in recovery and use ADB commands.

No for ADB you boot into recovery, connect your computer via USB and run the ADB commands from either Linux Terminal or Windows Command Prompt.

I do not remember right now what creates an backup_efs folder but it really does not matter that much - the tar.gz is a "file archive" and .img is usually a partition image. Each could have minor advantages - the .img also contains the entire filesystem of the partition (and will work easier if the filesystem is bonked) but a tar.gz backup is more versatile when you have bad sectors or a changed partition.
Under an advanced recovery like Philz you would just navigate some menus and try to restore the EFS - see the info in those specific threads.
Under ADB you need to have stuff (drivers and some programs) installed in your PC, you connect the phone on USB and you run ADB commands from the command line.
I'm trying to make an AOSP ROM, and while doing so, I now have a dysfunctional bootloader. If your tablet is rooted, please duplicate the boot.img from your system and share it with me. Would very much appreciate.
Instructions:
Use CMD and paste these 2 lines:
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img"
adb pull /sdcard/boot.img
Then from ADB directory, upload to somewhere easily accessible.
Does it matter if we have updated to 7.0 or not? I'm rooted and have updated to 7.0 and would be happy to help.
That would actually be a good idea. The ROM is supposed to be 7.0.0 anyways.

Yep. I do adb devices to make sure it recognizes the tablet and all is good there.
Maybe so I'm the same page i just open up ADB as normal : open the command prompt in my platform tools. I paste the first line in : adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img" I get no file or directory.
Unable to get the dumb file:
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img"
dd: /dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/boot: No such file or directory
Edit: does a backup from the recovery could make the task done ? I backup the boot from the TWRP and I get a file of 32Mb with the name: boot.emmc.win

That command never worked for me on this tablet. Yes the default kernels is 32mb.
You can get it from twrp backup as .win and then rename it (if it is not compressed) or use AUT or SuperR's kitchen to obtain it.
Another method would be flashifire>backup.
Im still on MM so I can not help you.
