Bad signal - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the SIII i9300 and I upgraded it recently to 4.1.2. I don't know if it's from the upgrade or from my new carrier but I got some horrible signal (including indoors). It will show H and full bars, but when I try to call out the bars drop, it goes from H ro G and even a lost signal. So I don't know if its a ROM issue (it was a rooted stock BTW) or the radio needs a update.
Any thoughts? The provider is Play in PL.

Maybe incorrect RIL?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

OK. Found a link here with a 4.1.2 PL unbranded RIL.
XXELKC
Android:4.1.2
Date: 30/11/2012
Carrier-Country-Region: Unbranded - Poland - Europe
How do I install it?
Currently running:
GT-I9300
4.1.2
baseband:I9300DXELK1
build: JZO54K.I9300XXEMA2

Use Odin

OK.
Ill give that a try. It seems my ROM is a SG version :d'oh:
If it doesn't work I'll reflash my ROM with the PL unbranded which has the correct RIL.

Theres an app called getril where you can auto-match modem & RIL or just check if they are compatible if you dont have root.

I don't know where you live but I can recommend you to try out the XXELLA baseband / modem - simply the most battery and signal reception friendly baseband for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Do not forget downloading and installing correct RIL thru getril-app from Google Play for stable signal reception..

[Q] Cannot connect to 2G/H+/3G Internet

I have flashed this firm:-

Firmware info
PDA:XWKL1
PHONE: DDKL1
Date: 13/12/2011
Android 2.3.6
INU (India): http://www.multiupload.com/7K8FL86IEQ
XWKL1 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/LSO4P572C9
Password: [email protected]
with speedmod kernel.
(I should have flashed JPKJ2 gb 2.3.5 firmware, but because its outdated, flashed the kl1 2.3.6 instead)
My problem is that i cannot access the 2g or 3g internet. I have the jKay mod which turns the signal icons to green. but they dont. they just come on (grey) but dont connect.
I called the operator many times to install the settings. but still no help.
If anyone in uae, can u confirm theres a gb 2.3.6 for uae?
any advice?
I recently bought a samsung Galaxy Y, and this had 2.3.6 xxkk(?) firmware with arabic support. Can any UAE user confirm that there is a 2.3.6 official update for galaxy s2?

Yep, they are still there.
I installed new one by calling the helpline. they told me to restart my phone afterwards. i did, but still cannot connect.
Is it possible that marketenabler app is causing the problem? i know that when you switch sim ids (from local to US etc) u cannot connect 3g.
but even if i try to connect with local sim id it does not connect
Man, just Google for your provider apn details for android. As far as I know 3g etc should work the same on all firmwares unless your phone is not the international version.
I have the i9100t which has a different modem. When I flash any rom I reflash just the modem and all is good again. But first make sure your apn is correct and you have selected it (should have the green dot beside it).

Hi all,
First time poster, long time follower!!
I'm hoping someone can help me here because i have a real headache with my galaxy s2. I live in Rep. of Ireland.
When i got it at Christmas everything was perfect. But two weeks later i suddenly lost my 3g. Phone works fine on 2g (except for the slow speed), but i contacted my carrier 3Ireland and they said everything is fine on their end. My APN is perfect, i've tried toggling airplane mode, entering codes, data package checks. You name it and i've tried it.
When i force my phone to select 3g it looses all signal and i have to restart my phone and quickly go back into settings to choose 2g or i will loose signal again.
This is the following on my phone.
Android version 2.3.5
Baseband version I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version [email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
I've being reading about modem/radios lately, is that just the baseband? Could that be my problem. I'm a noob at this kinda thing.I just want my 3g to come back.
All help is greatly appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you all.
Thanks.

sxi200 makes an excellent point. Make sure what your model is - GT-I9100, GT-I9100G, GT-I9100T - it WILL make a difference.

Because I've flashed an international firmware, when the phone boots up it shows i9100 and in settings / about phone it also shows i9100.
The only place it shows as an i9100T is on the sticker under the battery. So remove the battery and check just in case.
EDIT: you say you flashed an Indian firmware. Aren't Indian models the i9100G. Maybe you need to flash the international firmware if you indeed have an international model.

Well, i did go back and flash the jpkj2 2.3.5. and still no connection.
will try from an open place again later.
i have an issue with my internet connection too. i got an I9100(international version) and things were perfect till i switched to 4.0.3 and since then, my internet just refuses to connect although i have full signal strength and 3G or H displayed. but there is nothing going through.
it works again after i switch to airplane mode and back. i have no issues with wifi.
i have tried many modems and roms. i am currently using the KI4 rom and it still gives me issues.
please help.
update on situation
Hi guys,
just an update on my situation. Had the phone sent to Samsung twice for a check and bothe times it came back perfect with test sheets showing all was perfect. I decided to have another check done on the phone and it now says that the phone is blocked!! What the hell!. When i checked first weeks ago all was good and now it says it's blocked, but i'm getting 2g signal, surely i should be getting nothing if it's barred.
I have no idea who the origional service provider was of the phone, is there any way of finding out who the origional provider was or is there any way of removing this barring?
Thanks

what is the best radio (modem) for Note Bell ICS ? UCLF6?

Hello what is the best radio (modem) for Note Bell ICS ? UCLF6? .. i am still new to it but after ICS official on my Bell note (SGH-I717M) the modem or communication signal is not working intermittently when using LTE signal and when it happens i have to reboot my phone ..
I thought that maybe by upgrading the modem (signal) it would go better but what would be the best for Bell Galaxy note ICS ?
I have seen things like UCLA4 or UCLF6 ... but honestly i cannot know which one for Bell and what is the best one ...
Thanks

I was on perfection roms for a whicle and had tried pretty much all the firmwares. So far the best one is the Stock ICS one.
if someone can post a guide on how to extract the modem, i can do it tomrrow for you.
Would it be the UGLF4 ? the one you are talking about .. as it is the one i have for Stock OTA Bell Galaxy note with ICS ..
Do you know so far if LTE has issues with ICS ?
My other question would be UCLF6 is it for Bell or ATT only or such or for any carrier ?
Thanks
I'm also having the same issue as you. I upgraded to ics on my bell note and sometimes it won't register the network and I would have to reboot.
Sent from my SGH-I717M using xda app-developers app
thats correct it its : I717MUGLF4
Someone could say what it would do if i would flash the modem to UGLF6 or UCLF6 (could make a typo) ? ... would it work good with Bell and be ok ? or just for ATT ?
By the way ... so far if i block the network to get anything but LTE . it seems ok ..
So it seems to be a problem between that version and LTE network .. but i am just a beginning in cell phone .. could not tell for sure
All the the Note modems have the LTE issue unfortunately. I have the same issue and the issue was widespread on all the roms and modems I have tried since May (mostly UCLE and UCLF modems).
On all of those modems, I had to disable LTE to get a solid signal. I did this with a dialer code. If you keep the stock Bell modem and rom, you don't need the dialer method...just go into mobile networks and select GSM/HSPA(AUTO) option (this option did not exist via the settings panel on the 4-5 other ICS roms I used)
The other concern I have now is that I flashed the modem of my bell g note with UCLF6 and when I tried to flash to BMUCLF4 bell. ... IT works but then when I reboot it still remains UCLF6 as a baseband. ...

hi
there is a app that could help you
OpenSignal (free) in Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal
Another app
Network Signal Info - free too (the paid app It's to support the dev, no ads and more widgets)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet
I did used when I had signal problems in my neighborhood ... the telecom companies always said ... It's your problem ... your device ... your software ...
just test It ...
PS. to eliminate doubts ... hardware or software ... flash a stock fw (from UK O2 > sammobile) ... (necessary login)

Have you used the correct CSC for your network .
jje
Ive tried many but im not to sure which one is right as the phone came a btu because it comd from phones4u. I can always try it if you know which one correct. One the plus side so far so good with the new sim even got a slightll signal boost but not on 3g but the area im in this weekend is supposed to be c**p for signal 3g wise 2g works flawless. True test will be when i go work which is when it tends to happen the most. If it happens again after a csc change I will just claim on my insurance as the antenna is a broken heap of **** I got a new s3 there and then for 50 excess. But rather not pay again lol hopefully cheaper to fix my self unless its hardware.

Rather than flashing just the modem, it is better to flash a full firmware. Download an official (possibly 4.4.2 now it is released?) firmware from sammobile or other relevant websites, back up your data, and then flash via Odin. You can always try other firmwares to check for better signals.

SIM card wont register on phone.

Hey all..
I had a weird thing happen to me today, my s3 GT-i9300 wont register the sim at all it all started when I flashed 4.3 from 4.0 today I've tried everything possible to get the sim to register. In all honesty, I've become discouraged and would be happy to just get back to stock rom... at least the network was working. lol
Originally I bought this s3 in HONG KONG, the baseband version that I flashed 4.3 is from Kazakhstan.. So I went over to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and found that TGY (Hong Kong) has 3 firmwares: I9300ZSUBNB1- 4.3- 26.02.2014 and I9300ZSEMK3- 4.1.2- 06.11.2013 and I9300ZSEMC1- 4.1.2- 11.03.2013
Question: Which one do I use? and what would be the steps in fixing this problem?
Heres my info:
IMEIs match on BOTH in status of phone and on the back of the phone
Im currently on 4.3 Android Version
Current Baseband version: I9300xxugna8 [Kazakhstan]
Cell phone carrier: Mobilicity (Which is owned by Rogers)
Thanks for all the patience and help in advance.
Cheers.
Nevermind gents, found the solution. ANDDDDDDD the best part is.. I can stick with the 4.3... [sarcastic YAY]
Solution thanks to the folks at AndroidVeterans
Maybe the ROM you used is not Stable 100% that's why u faced that problem. So the solution is to back to your stock ROM with the official baseband that it was installed before you upgrade. in my opinion if you flashed a stock ROM with the wrong baseband can make your device unsupportable to the network (even you flashed many ROMs the problem will still exists)

Don't panic bro ,international S3 had this problem on updating manually , not for custom roms only for stock 4.3
The only solution is z3x box , it can be only done using that box :good:
You have to only repair network from it
