via OTA or via BMM? (JB Poll) - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi,
I was curious, if the JB OTA file is better than via BMM zip package. Does anybody have a better experience with CDT update or is it the same? I really want to do OTA update, since it feels very official and BMM feels like a little bit unfriendly with the /cache partition (i.e. unable to trim with LagFree) but BMM offers more freedom that i can't have with OTA update.
So what say you? Should i stay with BMM method or take the OTA Jump? Any ROM suggestion will be better too.
i use Verizon JB now via BMM zip package, originally i use AsiaRetail 328. Aside no 5Ghz Wifi and weak signal, the Verizon ROM is quite zippy though.

You must use the stock recovery, not BMM, so uninstall it if you want to update
Hit the 'thanks' button if it helps

My opinion is that you should install via bmm backuping kernel coz these are only leaks and you can go back to ics. I'm talking about xt910 eu of course
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk 2

I think it'll be wiser to go with the BMM one at least until a fastboot file is available.. I use the BMM vodafone EU and so far so good gan..
but it surely takes time for me to get used to the white contact list.. damn..

[Q]Revert back to AsiaRetail

I was thinking of flashing the EU ROM and the ICS update as I want ICS on my phone. But I want to be able to revert back to AsiaRetail when the official update comes. How do I go about it? Is it possible to make a backup of the Asia ROM? Or sme other alternative available?
Yes itz possible, but itz not recommended, i did it last week and it was too bugy & many fc'ing

I have flashed deodexed version and I must say I'm impressed. Fast, stable and battery friendly. Everything works, no bugs at all
Also I've noticed that there is no root in the rom.
This problem was solved by installing root directly from BMM recovery, section system keeper/install root/reboot
Finally I have also system 2 with a reliable rom
Thanks a lot!
edit: can I use your 1% battery mod for leaked verizon JB on this rom?

Hey since you have tried both, what would you prefer, this one or the verizon one? and if i install this, is erased cid still a requirement for asia retail phone like mine? And o yeah, are the improvements from verizon version, mainly the camera panorama mode is in here too?

Definitely this one! Seems a bit lighter, faster and a lot better 3G connection.
Regarding CID I think it should still be erased coz your not in EU. It shouldn't bother you as before
I didn't noticed panorama mode
Bottom line: it needs to be tested a few more days for stability, but so far I strongly recommend it
And, yes, don't forget to flash the right kernel
Enjoy

Seems tempting to try but one request, could you upload a screenshot or 2 for me? The thing i like about the verizon one is the clean statusbar (no carrier) and the razr i like text messaging theme (the green icon one). I know it might be minor but still he3..
And about the new panorama mode, it is the bomb man, really great at producing panorama shot, you could scan the area anywhere you like, almost no restriction, i could call it photo sphere alpha version so if this vodafone version has it all, i might flash it tonight

Yup i use BMM and i put it on Slot2 because i still keep my ICS in Slot-1 (stock) and yes no more CID erasing.. confirm, just flashing kernel between ICS and JB vodafone Rom depend on which one i use.
maybe after few days testing this rom i will move it to Slot1 as main rom replacing ICS.
before this rom i use Verizon JB but i dont like the signal bar counting seems not accurate, and finally after using the Vodafone JB all signal bar is accurate as i was using my ICS rom.
im a happy person now :victory:
hello I am from Mexico its Latin America. My phone is a xt910 GSM i used to have JB from Verizon but the wifi hotspot didn't work and I go back to ice and restored CID. For this room I need to erase CID? Or I can just flash and does the wifi hotspot works?

I am not clear about your description.
Do you mean you flash the Vodafone JB Kernel in system 2 first, then flash the zip file in system 2????

Australian DROID RAZR XT910

I have an DROID RAZR XT910 GSM/CDMA with the following stock ICS: 673.94.328.XT910.Optus.en.AU, Version 4.0.4, Build 6.7.3-94_SPI-328 and while looking at all the mods and roms out there I'm not confident in flashing this device because the version numbers are different and I don't wanna brick my phone (at close to AUD$800 I think you can understand why) so need help with getting JB onto it (impatient here in OZ, last round from GB to ICS took 6 months from advertised to actually going OTA here). Phone is rooted, have Titanium Backup and SuperSU installed but:
1: don't know how to back up the whole stock in case of failure and need to reinstall
2: not sure that any ROMs are safe to use in my phone (differing stock numbers etc)
3: what other software needed to make this happen
Can anyone please help!?! (where's that old interrobang when you need it)

Hi!
I'm an Aussie user but bought mine through Kogan (so it's a German phone). If you've already rooted the phone and have Stock ICS I'd recommend installing SS3.11 or BMM and running another JB ROM rather than try to flash stock.
There's heaps of threads with great ROMs on here and the Development thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162827
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028020
Personally I use SS3.11 with CM10.1 as my daily and it's fine. I can also recommend AOKP4.22 which is now officially supported on XT910.
Benefit of this setup is that I can also boot back to stock whenever I want.
Cheers and happy flashing!

This is a bit late to see this thread, but there is a thread for the retail.au 4.1.2 official. If you do a search of the forum with "retail" and "au" you'll find it. Stock rom that needs to flash a kernel first.
First be sure to root if you're still on ICS. There's a one-click root tool in the development section.
Requires BMM 0.3.4, from there you can install the recovery and reboot into it. It allows you to do a nandroid backup.

[KERNEL][JB]Safestrap Flashable BootLoop Fix for leak based RoMs

I noticed alot of people having trouble with flashing ROMS based off the Xmas leak 98.72.8 while being updated to the 98.72.16 OTA, so i made some SafeStrap flashable zips that allow you to keep the .16 OTA in stock slot while having a .8 based ROM in another slot.
No need to fastboot the entire leak to flash leak based roms.
Just flash the appropriate zip for whichever slot you are booting.
Use these if you get bootloops with certain ROMs that require you to be on the christmas leak. You can switch back and forth from stock OTA to custom pretty easy.
I only have an xt912 CDMA so thats all i tested on. Any input is welcomed. I will reply when possible.

I actually wrote it all on my RAzR without a computer.
Once it's there it's there. Most ROMS don't rewrite that file. But to Boot your stock slot without a cryptographic error you have to flash the *.16.zip

ya to go from jwiz to a .16 you have to flash the .16.
OK I want to clarify some questions?
I am on 98.72.16 JB if I want to install Jellywiz RLS7 I need to go on Jb 98.72.8.
So (slot 1 clean) install rom + gapps + Patch GSM then install script changes from 16 to 8 and reboot.
if I want after 1-2 days to use another rom installed on slot 2 must do something or just exchange slots ss 3.11?
thanks
with this I would be able to switch from stock .16 to any ROM .8 slot with ease?

I successfully booted a .8 rom using the zip, but i cannot boot .16 roms without a crypto whatever error, despite the fact that i have flashed the .16 zip multiple times. Any thoughts?

Interesting. Does this mean every time you power on, you have to do the power vol. up vol. down? I thought you needed to keep the CID.
Also, my understanding is that you can flash non-official ROMs and keep the CID. Is that the case or are you using non official ROMs?
I found a site online suggesting to flash the international ROM on the Razr, then you can go from there, but the links to the apps to do the upgrade don't work for me. Any thoughts on this path?

Mike

Firmwares are all listed here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/
I have a XT910K (Korea Telecom) and I bricked it with wrong firmware...only way I could revive it was by deleting the CID and flashing taiwanese stock JB 4.1.2.via RSD Lite..After that, I rooted it, installed Safestrap and now I have stock JB + Resurrection KK + Liquid Smooth KK + CM 11 KK, booting and working perfectly. So, beware of what you flash as/on stock, and once you have custom recovery as Safestrap or BMM, you can flash whatever you want.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm assuming you're recommending to go with Safestrap and install a 2nd OS. Couple of questions.
1: Were you able to uninstall any of the Korean specific apps? Wanted to know if there is a list of safely removeable apps.
2: Which OS do you prefer? I'm looking for performance and battery.
Thanks.

Yes, I can recommend Safestrap since I haven't had a single problem with it so far.
1. You can uninstall any app as soon as you root your device (use Titanium Backup Pro, for example)
2.I keep one JB 4.2.2 rom and a few 4.4.2 roms on my device...since KK roms are "polished" enough now, there is no difference in performance or battery life. I would suggest KK, since it's the newest version with all features included. Roms I can recommend are Resurrection Remix, Liquid Smooth, SlimKat, Mokee OSP, Pacman etc, not necessarily in that order. My daily driver atm is Resurrection, fast, smooth and stable.
Hi,
Is there updates about your mobile,
I was looking for stable room for my xt910s after removing cid.
