Eh, they are banana plugs really. I have been using acoustic research cable, stripped and crimped over the insulation, works fine.
Any kind of banana connector and speaker wire would work though

I was looking for some complete cables. I did source some banana jacks from Amazon but they didn't fit, will get some eventually.

I got some Sewell banana plug cables from Amazon. Looking at the prices some places asked for just the plugs I was happy to get complete cables for around the same price, and the quality is pretty good. I'm using them with some used Triads (not the Google ones :crying I got from eBay.

new 3.5mm hermes audio adapters

Have a look at these new ones:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2007/01/15/2_new_htc_headphone_adapters
HERE is the first adapter, ~16€ in Italy !! (..no comment)
9.95 on expansys.com HERE
I think the Brando adapters are better than the expansys ones, they look a bit more flexible.

Please let us know what you think of it!
Guys I have just recieved mine from brando this morning. And I have to say that I am not impressed at all! Within minutes of using it the shell of the mic fell off! I was on the train and didn't even realise untill I looked down in my hands and saw the bare connection exposed. No force at all was used it simply came off. On closer inspection it looks like it wasn't stuck together properly! Not a big problem as such. But I am still not happy with the build quality!!

Hmm interesting.
1.How long is the lead from the usb connector to the mic?
2.Have you had any feed back as to the voice quality of the mic?
3.Finally what 3.5mm headphones are using with it? (though any headphones I suspect would be an improvement over the supplied ones!! )
Sorry mate don't have a ruler at work to measure it at the moment. But at a guess i'd say probably about 45 - 50cm. But again I could be wrong as that was just an estimate! I'll check when I get home.
Haven't tested the mic on a call yet! Again will post back when I do.
I am using the Creative Labs EP-630 in ear earphones. Got to say the sound is excellent. Much better than the original ones you get with the phone. I hate using the originals they don't fit properly and they sound crap as well!
The only thing that was good about the original earphones was that the wire from the USB adaptor to the mic is quite thick. The wire on the Brando is thin, that was the first thing I noticed when I opened up the pack. It looks more delicate. And I found it impossible to attach the clip that they supply to the wire, the gap is too small and even the slightest attempt to clip it in causes marks on the wire and it feels like it will damage it.
Triple adapter
Does anyone have the first adapter with the 3 different sockets? I was just wondering if you use the 3.5mm headphone jack does the mic on the handset still work? If it does it'll be great for using in my car.
Thanks

It does NOT. The microphone is dead when the 3.5 jack is plugged in...
that just simply SUCKS!

I concur. I have the Brando product. I don't know why they even included the clip; it's impossible to attach to the wire. I tried, and the wire now has two glaring gashes in it that I've had to cover with electrical tape.
That being said, i use a set of Sony earbud earphones with it, and the sound quality is infinitely better than the original headset.
just received mine a few day ago. its just a 'not bad' thing. i'm using it with sony ericsson headset. the sounds is good enough to make me deaf.

Retractable 3.5mm Stereo Headphones

Anyone know of a good set? I've only found the siedio that cost like 55 bucks and it's not even the form factor I'm hoping for. There is still a lot of wire that isn't retracted.
Here are the two I've found. I can't even verify that they will work properly or that the connector is 3.5mm and not 2.5mm. Anyone have any experience with them?
http://store.everythinghtc.com/seidio-2-in-1-headphones-retractable/11A29A1047.htm
http://store.everythinghtc.com/seidio-2-in-1-inear-isolator/11A29A1045.htm
Ok, looks like this is exactly what I'm looking for. I just missed it on Seidio's site because it only showed the earbuds in the picture. The other pic shows that there is only a little bit of cable that doesn't get retracted. I'll post if I find it cheaper somewhere else.

I buy a lot of stuff from this Ebay store. Decent prices and quick service. They have the isolator ones for $35 free shipping.

Official HTC Cradle

Anyone else got the official HTC Hero Cradle?
Mine just arrived and whilst it looks good there are a few faults..
It collects fingerprints like mad, and the bigger problem.. because of the chin on the hero it stands too straight upright.. it needs to be laid back a little more to make it easier to read if its in front of you on a desk.
It wouldn't be a problem on any phone thats straight (the cradle is universal and can have little adapters fitted for a few different HTC models).. but because of the curve of the chin the usb socket points at a weird angle.
I've got the cradle. It does collect fingerprints like mad, but the angle doesn't bother me at all.
the angle doesnt bother me. trying to get it out of the cradle bothers me. seems so difficult to pull out or even put in for that matter. will this ease up the more i use it?

Yes it will.
must say I'm pretty dissapointed with accessories for Hero. Official cradle seems to expensive, and to find cheaper one that has audio output on it? asking too much.

looks like this can be it. but, can any cradle be used if the phone is in "soft silicon gel case cover" ?

I had one of these for another HTC phone (I can't even remember which now) and you need to have DC5V and USB both connected to reliably charge. And come on it's not that big
As for the official cradle, yes it is pretty expensive but it is very well made and don't forget it is universal - so you can just replace the adapter when you change to another HTC phone, ala iPod docks. Don't think it fits the Nexus One though? Or maybe just not yet.
ok thanx
I thought that it would be an easy thing to find. and cheap. but it's not really, looking at iSomething accessories, well... it's very hard to compare. There is iEverythingYouCanThinkOf, but only one or two models of HTC compatible docks with audio output. that's sad.
As long as the dock has a proper HTC ExtUSB connector on it and not just mini-usb you can get audio out easily from any of them.
Grab an Ext USB 3-in-1 Splitter from ebay (They look like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=57219&d=1194430021)
And plug into the dock.. thats what I did when I was using my kaiser dock before I bought the official one.
yes that was my plan
but noone said anything about docking a Hero with silicon gel protection on it? it's only about 2mm thick but will it fit? hmm...

I think that it does support audio out. See this: http://www.mtpdata.dk/htc/htc-hero/cradle-dockingstation-til-htc-hero-med-pladsslot.html the website is danish but look at the pictures.

Yeah it has audio out + room for an extra battery
From the site :
- Docking Station / Cradle for HTC Hero
(with USB cable + power cable)
NoteThis dock only fits HTC HERO , and not to other HTC smartphones / phones!
Docking Station / Cradle for synchronization of data (between phone and PC) and to charge your HTC HERO and / or extra battery.
Besides that, this dock also separate Audio-Out port!

hello everybody

No more dongle!

I hate using the dongle with my wired earphones on my Tilt 2. Even though I mostly use a Motorola S9 BT headset, there are times when the wired earphones are the only option. I prefer the in-ear type sets with silicone cups. I've been looking all over for a set like that with a mini-USB connector so I wouldn't have to use the dongle, but they are nowhere to be found. There are a few sets, including the OEM ones from HTC, but they all have crappy earbuds. I found a set on eBay, but when I got them I was disappointed with the sound quality. They sucked. Decided that I would combine the plug from those with the rest from my nice set of 3.5mm plug earphones. If you've ever cut into the wires on these earphones you know how hard they are to work with. Not wires, actually, more like filaments. They have a cooating on them to prevent shorting so they can be put together without individual insulation. This makes them thinner and more bendable. Unfortunately, it makes them extremely hard to solder. After some considerable time spent figuring out which wire went where (color codes didn't match, one set had 5 wires, the other only 4) I managed to get it all together and now have a mini-USB in-ear silicone headset that sounds awesome and still allows access to the phone controls. No more dongle for me!
Oh yeah, and I can use the FM radio with them.

Yeah, and I ordered one last night. Still, there are situations where a corded headset is the only option (airplanes, some government buildings). Not having to use the clumsy OEM dongle is a joy.

heh, i once used my BT headset to listen to music on a plane (shh, dont tell the FAA )
Hey do you, are you able to do a how to, i did think/try, and as try i mean cut the mini usb cord from other headphones, and as u said there were so many difference wires.
Thanks
Not sure about a how-to. The wire colors are different depending on whose headphones you have and whose you sacrifice for the USB end. Soldering these filament wires is a real chore. The color coating is what insulates them from each other in the cord. I scraped the coloring off to expose a little of the copper so I could solder them then I used tiny shrink sleeve to reinsulate them. When all done I slid a larger piece of shrink sleeve over all of it. You'll need a meter to figure out which wire is which, but I can tell you which pins from the USB connector on the phone are which. That'll make it a little easier for you. Give me a day or 2 to make up a diagram.
found good usb dongle for headset

You can get them cheaper on eBay. I got 3 of them for $3 shipped. Amazon charges shipping so you're better off going with eBay. Also make sure you get a bunch of them. The quality of these adapters are pretty bad and they fall apart after a month or so. You get what you pay for.

3.5 mmHeadphone jack too large to fit....

I tried to place a headphone into the 3.5 mm headphone jack and it was loose and didn't register. It works fine for my Note 3 which also is 3.5 mm. A warranty replacement is on the way. Definitely check to see whether yours is fine or not.
My jack is definitely looser than the one on my Nexus 6, but they work fine. My headphones are a few years old and I plug and unplug about 5-10x each day, so I think they might be starting to wear down a little bit. Until it won't work or hold a plug, I won't worry about it too much on my particular unit.
yep mine is loose as well
It plugs in all right but moving the cable even slightly results in the headphones coming off.
Mine is an incredibly tight fit with my headphones. They're just cheapo generic skullcandy or something.
There's no wiggle, and I have to hold the phone and pull on the jack - otherwise I can even pick the phone up by holding the cord. I think it's tighter than my N6 anyway, but the N6 probably got a bit worn by now.

So everyone seems to have functional jacks except me.......Hopefully the replacement will be fine (odds are). I tried 2 different head phones both of which worked fine and fit tightly with my Note 3 but were loose and non-functional in my 6P.
Snug and functioning well.
Yup mine fits snug as well with all my headphones. Seems like you might have just gotten a defective model.
Super weird. I thought the headphone jack on my black 64 was actually real snug. Had to apply a little pressure to make sure it was fully in.
Just tested a ton of 3.5mm plugs I have, everything fit snug.

The ones I have are Sony.....not sure about my friend's headphones. Both were loose in my 6P and tight (appropriately tight) in my Note 3 and in his Note 3. My replacement 6P arrived this morning..... after I left, so hopefully all will be well when I check it this evening.

Finally got home and the headphones actually work with the replacement 6P. The headphone fits snugly with a nice click into place that my first 6P failed to do.
Mine is functional but not super tight, its not loose either. There almost no force required to remove my headphones (Bkse QC20's 2015 model) but my wife's 6P has a death grip on my headphones. Its odd but it doesn't bother me at all
I don't get that clicking noise when inserting the jack. The headphones will fall out with very little effort.

I JUST noticed this the other day. I have a pair of bluetooth buds that I have been using since I got the phone but just got a new pair of wired ones and wanted to try them out and the jack is slightly too large. Glad to hear your replacement was good, though. I hate having to reset up the phone and I'm concerned about getting a refurb replacement, of course, but I think I may have to do a replacement after the holidays.
