[Q] Log folder getting full - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've searched on the forums and found nothing that answers my doubts...
Yesterday my SGS2 was showing a "Memory Full" notification.
I've browsed through the folders and found a "log" foldet getting full with "logcat_cp_boot_radio_201303251248_35.log" files, with 1.2 and 1.5Mb
And there were A lot of them...
So, i've renamed the folder to ---log---, rebooted and after a while there was another "log" folder with a bunch of logfiles.
My question:
What process is generating there logs, and is there a way of disabling it? (wow that was 2 questions )
ROM: I9100XXLS8
Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you ever install something to get a logcat log? Or maybe, by accident, a kernel option?

As far as Î can recall, no. No Logcat app, and kernel option does not ring any bell.
Besides, if it is a kernel option, there must be an option to enable/disable logging, right?

Where did you find the folder? Just /logs or /system/logs?
Maybe your build.prop or init files will tell you something.
AFAIK you can delete them, then you can check when they are created. (Probably right after the boot)

Yes, it is just "/log" on the internal sdcard.
I'll check build.prop for any information.

So it's /sdcard/logs/
Are you sure your internal sdcard is full? Or is it your /system folder thats full.

Well, both are true.
My internal sdcard is getting full.
/system has 233Mb free.
I can deal with the logs issue, by deleting them.
Most of my apps are on external sdcard.

Apps on your external sdcard?
Internal sdcard is 12gb. What do you have left on that card?
Maybe to much photo's or music, download folder?

Yeah I know, but when I deleted /log it had 2.4 Gb in logs.
Just to be on the safeside I moved apps to extsdcard

[Q] Titanium Backup not backing up to SD card

Anyone running TB on the Atrix now and only getting backups to Internal Storage vs SD card? It shows the path on the Overview screen as /mnt/sdcard but it backs up to Internal Storage. Tried several different options off the wiki for it but it just shows "not available" as the backup directory on Overview page if I change anything. Is there an absolute path I can use?
Assuming that TB works the same on Atrix as on Captivate then /mnt/sdcard is internal storage. What you'll need to do is bring up Preferences and change the path to external_sd/TitaniumBackup . Hope this works for you.

Unfortunately, no. Tried that and it didn't find it. Also tried an absolute path of /mnt/external_sd/Titaniumbackup with no go. My guess is the "external_sd" part of the path is named something different on the Atrix.

You are correct, it should be
/mnt/sdcard-ext/Titaniumbackup

Excellent! That was it. Thanks much and we should add that to the wiki.
Noob question: Do you know if you can safely use the "get busybox" and "upgrade superuser" options in Titanium Backup - to upgrade su and since busybox is already present will it upgrade it? Thanks.

[Q] Nook Tablet Partitions

I finished rooting my Nook Tablet and started copying over files to the /data/media directory. However, none of my music shows up in any of my apps. Why not?
well it does not allow you to copy for some reason
(at least for me)
it just crashes and when i go and see it , it not there.
^(probably did not help, but...)

Yes, I gave permission to all of them. None of the files show up in any of my programs, they all say that I don't have an SD Card mounted or just won't show anything.

If you don't see the SD card just pop it out and reinsert it. That's a common thing for the NT.

Did I copy the files to the right directory? How do I get them to show up in my programs?
Edit: This is seriously bothering me now, I have 12 GB and I can't use any of it because none of those files will show up in ANY of my picture/video/music apps. Isn't there any way to link a folder into the internal SD card so that the apps think it's on the internal SD card?

Unable to write internal SD?! o_O

Hi all, there's something bothering me for long.
I have a tablet with internal SD (nand one) and an external SD.
Now I can read contents in internal SD but can't write it. I checked up with root explorer, finding the file sysytem is "read only". After toggling it to R/W, the storage can be written by root explorer but still can't by other apps.
Can anyone help me plz? A lot of thanks!
================ EDIT ================
p.s. When connected to PC as massive storage device, it can be read and written.

Because its internal memory of tablet like root memory of android phone..
So you can write it with root explorer only...
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

thanks but sorry, nah, I'm pretty sure the internal sd is not the root memory. when I download a file, it is meant to be saved in "Download" folder of the internal SD.

The whole SDCARD folder is r/o...
I tried in terminal to mount it as r/w, but writing still fails.
then I tried connecting it to PC and formatting it FAT32... and the formatting failed!
Now i've got a tab without internal SD... guess I have to flash the system again...
Hope there's nothing wrong with the hardware.
Could you please gimme some advice? thanks!

Try a clean install of your ROM. If the problem still exists, try a different ROM. That should determine if its as software/hardware problem.

[Q] Unable to Delete funny character file in Internal Storage

Hi everyone,
Few days back when I was in Sammy LSJ ROM, I noticed there is a file already created and I am experiencing difficulty to delete this file from the Internal Storage.
Location:
/sdcard/00/01/02/03/
Inside this path, there is a file with weird character name in 0 byte.
I already try to delete that file (also try with the folder 03) from:
>> Root Explorer --> unable to go inside folder 03
>> My Files (comes with the OS) --> only can see one file with 0 byte
>> ES Explorer --> found three files in it, all with 0 byte
None of it allows me to delete it. :crying:
I did try to remove it from Terminal Emulator with command “rm –rf /sdcard/00/01/02/03/” but not successful, since I have limited knowledge on linux command line. You may refer the screenshot that I have attach in here.
My Current OS in SGS2 : WanamLite v14.1 LSD – 4.1.2
Appreciate can someone guide me how to permanently remove it? :fingers-crossed:
Thank you.
Bump.... any help is highly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
One sure way would be to backup needed data and then format /emmc (internal) or /sdcard (external) via cwm and re-install rom.

Connect your phone to a windows computer via mass transfer mode. Then right click on the internal SD card icon and go to properties and check disk for error. It happened with me. Some bad sector was built up. This process removed those files and my bad sector was also removed. You can also defragment your drive from here. I did mine.
I hope it helps...
Best of luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. :good:
Whenever I connect my phone to PC (USB mass storage), I shall see a pop up windows to perform check disk for the phone (Internal Storage).
So I choose "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
Then I remove the phone and reconnect back, it will prompt the same windows.
Using defragment from PC did not solve the problem as well.
At the end... I managed to solve my problem by formatting the Internal Storage from Windows:
- connect the phone as "USB mass storage"
- select full format from PC on Internal Storage
That's all... now the annoying folder 00 no longer appear.
**I'm not sure format from Windows will damage the partition in Phone's Internal Storage? I rebooted the phone and check again, the storage remain as 11.50GB, I guess should be all fine now.
And you didn't have to torch it after all.
+1

Hi I have the same problem, what file system do you use when formatting from windows?

Storage full - but with what?

Hey everyone!
I thought maybe some of you could help me with this. I'm on XXUFME3 and I have a weird problem with the internal storage. I have only 3 GB left but I don't know what fills up so much of the storage as the Storage in Settings shows in the chart I haven't used this much space.

If you've flashed ME3 coming from a 4.1.2. rom without a wipe, then all your things remain at the old 4.1.2. mount points. 4.2 has new mount points and generally a wipe is required when switching.
Hej, JJ, try to be of help for once, would you? It's better to help them with their problems and then suggest where they should post the next time. It's in the rules, but I bet you knew that.
Please read link in my signature about 4.2 and sdcard

Thanks in advance for your time,

Unfortunately, i can´t move all the folders, as i don´t have enough space in the internal storage (the irony...) Many of the folders are duplicate btw, so i´m just trying to overwrite them.
I´ve tried two times, but at the second attempt the OS crashed and the phone got rebooted.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help btw, very kind of you!

Did you just backed up user apps + data? I guess after formatting you had to flash the ROM again, right?
What do you think caused me this problem? Could have been because i restored system apps and data from my Titanium backup?

Yep had to reflash but it's worth it for the space it freed up Its the new folder structure on 4.3 RootSu has a thread about it that explains everything.

I´m looking into this solution. Could you explain how you copied all the internal content into the PC, and what was it that you restored back?
Do you have to to any special format or create any partitions after it´s clean?
Thanks!
I have been manually deleting folders from /data/media. I actually had a lot of data from old apps, and also all my old pictures, whatsapp pics etc...
I don´t understand how this can still be in the phone after several full wipes.
Is it any better way to wipe everything from the root folder and internal memory so i can flash the new rom with a completely clean phone?
would format in cwm do the trick?
