the way in which Qmg's are encrypted is hard to crack...
At present u can only create new Qmg's ...
this means no bootanimation.zip files no desc.txt only your Qmg is enough ...
I dont know why but the animations dont quite work right now ..u get pixelations like cm7 ...

EDIT
It Dont Work.......

I need help ... go to the thread by xessus here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189934
at the bottom he provided one made by him .....
I dont understand but that version works perfectly in my phone so it is possible...

The Deal....
It works cuz
Its just time consuming!!!
here is the deal.
Windows Instructions:
Find your favorite boot animations.
Copy the Bootanimation.Zip file to your desktop...
Extract this file to your desk top:
You now should have an unzipped bootanimation file folder.
It probally contains two folders with part0, part1 (or something similar)
PS
always save the original bootsamgung.qmg until you get the modified one working***
just use rom toolbox or other root enabled file manager to move the original out and put the modified one in.....
PEACE
follow the steps above and start filling in your JPG's (remember if you have 100 jpgs you need to load the 100 files, thats 100 times...)
next follow the rest of the directions and your done.
after getting use to the software, I made the flaming skull boot in about 25 min.
Hope that helps!:silly:

is it working ?
could you tell me how you do it?
coz only a very few people have got it working...i myself cudn't make it work for some reason but those which others made works on my phone
it may b time consuming but it is better than a zip file of .pngs
it is lighter(sometimes) and faster..

[BOOT ANIMATION] Star Trek computer display with a Android twist

This is a boot animation featuring the Star Trek computer display. You don't have to be a "Treky" to enjoy this boot animation. I got away from the official terms and put in Android system stuff instead.
***After years after I lost this in a HD crash, someone mirrored it. AWESOME!***
Please read and learn where to put the bootanimation.zip file before attempting. I am not responsible for your mistakes.

I'm personally not going to use this but I can't help applaud you on this creation. Looks to be very well done and worthy of being on many phones.
Just set it up on my phone. Very cool looking and of course the android twist makes it even better. Thanks for the work....and sharing it with us.

Get Root Explorer from the Market. Then put the bootanimation.zip to the /system/media folder. Then long press on the bootanimation.zip and pick change permissions. Then just match the picture above and pick OK. Exit, and reboot your phone and you will see the boot animation.

can this be done with a stock 2.1 rooted vibrant by pushing the file to system media with root explorer ?
Is there any way to change the speed of the animation? I tried changing the first line of code in desc.txt to 480 800 10 - which i thought would cause it to play at 10 frames per second, but it doesn't seem to have any effect
edit: nevermind - got it working
Hi,
your boot animation is pretty awesome, but I have had some issues getting it to work on my vibrant. I am currently running cm7 and the Bali kernal. I have been unable to change the permissions on the .zip using root explorer in the folder you identified. I keep getting the message that the file is read-only. Could you give me some guidance please?

in root explorer, you have to mark the folder as r/w (read/write) as by default it's marked r/o (read only). Once you do that you should be able to change permissions.

From my experience, use the Bali kernel will not allow you to run custom boot animations. You will have use some other kernel like Immortality or SuperDragonMod.
No!!! He said he is on CM7 Nightly ....I am assuming. Do as the previous post says. Change to R/O

Nice job indeed sir,
But doesn't work on my samsung s5660.
I did everything bij the letter, but no go.
I got two boot files, bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsunloop.qmg.
So i believe those two overrul the bootanimationzip......
Wat does work is that i have chanche some audiofiles, even on bootup ( no longer that loud samsunggingle, but a nice windows 7 tune...........).
Please, could you reupload your file? It is not on the megaupload. Thx a lot.
Actually I lost the file. If anyone has it could they uploaded it somewhere?

Boot Animations ported for Atrix!

Hello all.
I found some boot animations that I really liked, so I decided to port them for our Atrix.
All credits go to Dysgenic for creating these (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538). I just changed the values in desc.txt
Also thanks to CaelanT for showing a noob how to zip these correctly
I tested most of these on stock 2.3.4 , so let me know if anyone has problems getting them to work on another rom.
Rename the files as "bootanimation.zip" and place them in /system/media. You can do this with ADB or a file explorer like root explorer.. or if you are cheap ass like me ES File explorer. /system must be mounted as writable to be able to write to the correct location.
Personally I do this.
1. Place bootanimation.zip on sdcard.
2. open ES file explorer. Go to Settings> Check mount /system as writable.
3. Cut bootanimation.zip
4. Paste in /system/media. Click ok to overwrite old boot animation
5. Reboot
Enjoy!

I personally got it from absolute system tool. The developer is always adding and updating. You can change Res and fps. Its 2 bucks in the market and you can choose from over 200 boot animations.
I'm having a weird problem changing my bootanimation on my atrix. It has android 2.3.4 and I have rooted it and am using super manager file explorer to copy and paste from /sdcard to /system/media but when i reboot i only get a blank screen in place of where the bootanimation should have shown. The phone does boot up all the way and does work properly but when it is supposed to show the bootanimation.zip the screen just stays blank.. i even copied back the original but it still wont work. weird... any ideas?? I also tried "bootanimation utility - lite" from the market but still same issue..
discovered in making your own bootanimation.zip file that you dont use any compression on the zip file. thats why it wasnt running.. the zip file is just a "store"..
My favorite is still this one:

+1 for this. I had the same issue with it. I'm using Ubuntu to zip my file and I think that was the issue. Gonna try it on a virtual machine to see if that's what the issue is. I'll be sure to share it when I'm done. It's a nice simple Scott Pilgrim animation for all you fans out there.

If you can photoshop a little they are very easy to make.
Just find a cool battery icon and rebuild it a little
Basically you need 7 .PNG's of 320x480 pixels names charging_animation_01.png --to--chargning_animation_07.png and copy them in your system folder.
but if not, then just check around here, there are more sequences to be found.
I'll make more myself in the future and post them here.

I used photoshop to make my own offline charging animation using the following configuration: 320x480, RGB, 8bit, .PNG format.
Inside the Rom (gallery for example), all .PNG files are perfectly shown; but the odd thing is, all red colors are shown blue in the device during offline charging. Any idea on root of the problem?
one question
how did you got the star under the thanx meter?
and great work

You should not use these colors.
Best is always to 'save for web' > shift+ctrl+alt+s
just select PNG-24 there and deselect transparency.
Have 'Convert to sRGB' enabled and set it to monitor colors
if that doesn't work, i really have no clue..

HAL 9000 boot animation (+ audio)

original boot animation taken from NicePenguin here: http://www.android-hilfe.de/themes-fuer-motorola-defy/329209-hal9000-bootanimation.html
For anyone else that wants something a little different... I've had this on my phone for a while and thought I'd share it. HAL 9000 is the computer from the old sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey
this is someone else's work that i optimized for our screens.
i resized the original for our screens (to 768x1280) and darkened them in photoshop.
I also found a soundclip of hal 9000 saying "i'm completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly"
you will need access to your /system partition. put bootanimation.zip in your /system/media/ folder and if you want the audio, put that PowerOn.ogg in your /system/media/audio/ui/ folder. These files may overwrite existing files.
Here's what it will look like.

Awesome! I'll have to try it out. I was just thinking about Hal 9000 after seeing that Facebook had this line come up in my Status Update box: "How has your day been, Jameson?" Creeped me out. If my name was Dave it would have been worse. BTW, I hit the "Thanks" button, but I'm all out for today.
Just replaced the boot animation with this, really cool! The power on and power off sounds sounds great. Good job!
Murasaki likes, looking forward to throwing this on when I get off work.

When I removed boot animation completely I'm pretty sure I had a black screen. Maybe, it didn't copy over correctly... Idk?
Edit: didn't mean to make it sound like I've tried it, yet. But, I've removed boot animation before and the result was a black screen, if I'm not mistaken.

My steps:
Download the zip given. Extract that zip wherever you'd like, all the things will go into a folder (obviously). Those things are bootanimation.zip, poweron/off.ogg
I first went into the folders and renamed the originals with a (...)2.zip at the end. I then went back into the folder and clicked Move To and placed them in to their according spots. Rebooted and working.
I didn't do this via computer, just in case anyone is confused. Downloaded from xda app on my phone and used ES File Manager to move around. Root settings and Writable.

Another common way to keep the old bootanimation in there just in case is to rename them to bootanimation.zip.bak (for "bakup...").
Both ways work, that just seems to be how everybody does it.
Very nice animation by the way.

Love this boot animation. I been running the 4.1.2 stock and i like the simple boot animation it uses.but this Hal one is awesome, especially with the audio it comes with haha. Most people i know wont get the reference but its super creepy when u do get it haha. Im just using the poweron not poweroff audio and the audio is almost perfectly timed for how long it takes to boot up the phone, excellent work. Nice job doblebo on bringing it over and to nicepenguin for creating it

ok guys, i wanna thank you for your bootanimations, especially the Marvels Avengers Sequence, and the most recently uploaded Marvel-DC=Clash from this thread by KachowPow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611238 ( INSTALLATION is the same process as the linked thread so if you are not sure how to put these on your phone, follow the above link for instructions)
after following the tutorials to try and make my own bootanimations, and much trial and error i finally got some to work if anyone is willing to test them out. Both with the Despicable Me theme, so i included the PowerOn.ogg file which is just a short instrumental clip of the theme song for the first movie. its in both the zip files IF you chose to use it, but its not necessary. So without further ado, i present to you my first 2 bootanimations ever.
(These previews are compressed and the actual bootanimation should look better)
First, i found these images minion superhero images from here: http://introspect37.tumblr.com/ (search "minion"). I did not create them, i just cleaned them up and made them all uniform in size for our purposes here. this is where i started, they were all still images so not much "animation" here but i still like it. i wish the background colors were all the same, but again, i was not the original creator of these artworks.

Second, i found this just browsing google images, it comes up on despicableme.com. now the original was in landscape and i had to add space to the top of it to make it the correct dimensions for our phone without chopping any of the animation away.

Are these flashable zips or extract and replace files?

These 2 Despicable Me bootanimations are for Samsung TouchWiz roms and you need to have root and replace the files in /system/media/ and the sound file is in the /ui / folder in that directory. Back up the original files before replacing. You also need to change permissions of the files to rw-r-r and reboot.
I do have the original files to create a flashable zip but I'll work on that and test it on an old phone and post the links later.

The second one does not work as far as the boot goes. The shutdown works but the boot animation doesn't

Yeah, did it several times and it's not working at a boot animation for some reason. Not sure why.

Love it thanks
