When you bought it, did it come with a micro SD to SD adapter? If so, that adapter might have a button thing on the side. Insert your micro sd card in the adapter, slide the thing on the side so it works.

the switch only works while the card is in adapter, it doesn't change anything for the microsd card.
fix permissions from recovery

Connect phone to the computer through adb, pop out and reinsert your MicroSD and then run "mount" and "dmesg"
Paste output here.
It's possible the filesystem is damaged, then it will go read-only until the filesystem has been fixed or formatted. A fsck.vfat (?) should fix it for FAT32, equivalent tools exist for Fat64 and NTFS. Note that you may have data corruption if your filesystem is really defective.

Yes, the switch only blocks a write-line on the SDcard so it cannot be altered. MicroSD do not have it on themselves due to their size.

SD Card won't mount

I've looked at the other threads on this but, none seem to match my problem.
I've a 16 GB MicroSD card in my S2. S2 is not-rooted running stock ROM.
This card used to mount ok. It no longer will.
In Settings->Storage, space reported is unavailable (because it's not mounted).
I can run Format SD Card option which returns quickly.
Running Mount SD Card, it's says Mount in Progress but it never completes.
If I put the card into an SD card reader, it looks fine. FAT32 formatted card, with approx 16GB available.
Any ideas?

I had similar problems with two other sd cards.
First running without any problem, and then suddenly the message appeared that the sd card is empty or not connected.
In both cases, the sd card was broken.
But in my cases, the sd card could not be used in a USB adapter by PC either.
As the sd cards were nearly new, I could make a warranty replacement and now I have got a card which works fine for about two months.
You can check this, by switching the sd card into another phone.
And use another sd card in your phone.
If the other card will work in your phone and your sd card will have issues in the other phone too, replace the broken sd card.
Good luck !
P.S.: You should format the sd card with your phone and not by your PC.
Other MicroSD Card works

Thanks for the response. I should have said that another 4GB card worked in the phone ok. This did lead me to think it was a card problem. However, he fact it works via a PC indicates otherwise.
Will try it in another phone.
Just throw it away?
Has anyone seen this before i.e. not working in phone but ok in SD reader?
If so, did you manage to resurrect it? Or is it time to throw it out?

Try this. Settings>Application>Development
Check usb debugging.
Connect phone to pc. In notification bar click "usb connected" message, and click on "connect usb storage" button. You won't see the sd card mounted in pc!
Now disconnect phone, reboot. It might mount
See if there's any luck.
Since you're not rooted, solutions are quite limited in numbers

Tried disconnecting and rebooting in 2 senses of the word
1. Hitting the disconnect usb storage button on screen
2. unplugging the usb cable.
Unfortunately, neither worked.
i'm having this problem now both on internal and external sdcard... it wont even mount on recovery... i'll try see if i can this done.. Windows damages everything.. i made a cleanup of the sdcard and a format..

May be trying this check list:
Mount SD card
Format SD cad>Mount SD Card
Format SD cad in the other phone or PC>Mount SD Card
Try Stability Test V2.3 in the other phone
Try SD Tools V2.4 in the other phone
Dust inside the SD socket?
Have you tried formatting in your phone?
Could be you got unlucky, and got a faulty card reader in your phone. But also possible the sd card just needs to be formatted.
What kind of sd card is it? And is it formatted already?

It won´t Mount to the Phone, when I hit "Mount" it would keep on saying Mounting but it doesn´t... When I connect the phone (with the SDCard in it) to the PC the SDCard is not shown. However, it does if its in my friend´s phone.....
Im thinking it could be that my phone is rooted, unlike my friend´s. So I think I could take it back to its original ROM and try, if it doesnt work then take it to warranty cuz the SDcards work just fine in my other friend phone (which is the same one as mine, bought it together, same day, same company).
Its a: SanDisk MicroSDHC 32GB

Yes it is formatted, did it twice in my friend´s phone. I dont think its an sd card problem, its more like a feature/option thing, which I dont get to see any solution but to flash back to stock rom the phone.

Right; I mentioned the card as a POSSIBILITY, but that another possibility is that the card READER in your phone is jacked up. Root should NOT have any affect in your phone's ability to read an sd card. I have root on my phone, and it reads my class 10 16gb sd card just fine. But it may be worth it to try flashing back to stock to see if that helps. Otherwise, your only option left after that is warranty.

The thing is that it can read a 4GB micro sd that my other friend was using before, thats why I think it has something to do with my phone not reading that specific type of SDCard for some reason. I think of going back to stock because Root is the only difference between mine and my friends phone/MicroSDCard.
I´ll let you guys know my results in case someone else finds the same problem.

Sounds like it is having difficulty reading SDHC (High Capacity) cards. I think standard SD cards can get up to 8GB, so I'm betting your 4GB card is a standard micro SD, and not an SDHC. SDHC was created for 16 and 32GB.

Ok discard software related problem:
1- Flash original ROM-Kernel and try,
2- Then discard hardware related problem(in the phone and the SD card side)
Phone side;apply an electronic spray cleaner in the socket an SD Card. Use an anti-static wrist strap
3- SD card side; use software tools i recommended before in several SD cards.
Just to let u guys know, it was a hardware problem. I had to get a new phone.
Thanks,

[Q] How to swap out a microSD card

I want to replace the stock microSD card with a 16GB one I bought. Can someone tell me the correct process for doing this? Is it as simple as copy and pasting everything on the old card to the new card and popping the new one in?
Yes, this will be enough. But I advice to reformat Your new card in PC using FAT32 2kb or 4kb cluster size, this can save lot of space, if card was formatted with 32kb clusters.
That's what I did with my new card. Format fat32, copy and paste all old files, you should be good to go.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
1) First you need card reader for easy copy_paste ....insert new card in your device go to setting > unmount sd card and erase/format...it will format your card in default and correct format...
then connect your old card to pc and copy data from old to new
if you have no card reader then ..copy your mobile data from device to pc via usb connection..then remove old card and insert new card ....format new card in mobile ...then copy your data from pc to your new sd card
Thank Me If I Helped You :good:

Is there a downside to formatting with smaller cluster sizes?

Is it better to format the card with my phone rather than with my PC?
Hello, what I would do is before formatting the MicroSD. I would put it into your device and let your device set it up. If it doesn't mount right away, go into your settings and then to Storage and find the MicroSD card then format it that way if you are not experienced. Then it would be safe to copy and paste all the data from the old MicroSD card.
OK, so these are the steps I plan on following. Please let me know if I'm missing anything or doing something wrong.
1) Copy contents of old sd card onto my PC via USB
2) Insert new sd card into my PC card reader and format using FAT32 2kb or 4kb cluster size
3) Insert new sd card into Evo and format
4) Transfer contents of old sd card from PC to new card via USB

There is no downside on flash memory, because it has very fast seek time. The only downside may be is performance drop in very low-end devices because FAT tables become larger and may not fit in memory completely.

So when you say "very low-end devices", that doesn't apply to our Evos right?

Yes, our Evo's is hi-end device with 800mb of RAM. This is more than enough to serve even 0.5kb clusters, but because SD operates 2k sectors it will be not optimal.
But make sure that Your new sdcard have sector-aligned partitions, using for example 4EXT Recovery touch.

Obiously....if you are going to use this card in mobile device then it is best to format the card with that mobile device...better security and fast speed
I have a 32 GB card in my device. I copied the data from the old card into a new folder on my desktop on PC.
- After this, I formatted the new card in my phone using the option in 4ext recovery.
- Then i putted the new card in my card reader (PC) and copied the data from my old card (stored in new folder on my desktop) back to my new card
- After all this steps, i putted the new card back to my phone.
Voila, all works well as before...:good:

Cant tell if its blur from the camera or is that label printed at an angle?
Either way, its more important where you bought it, not its appearance. If its ebay then thats an immediate red flag.
Use h2testw.exe to test the card on windows. You probably need a card reader / phone that has usb mass storage mode.
This will tell you if its fake / faulty.
Essentially, fake cards are smaller (cheaper) but programmed to look bigger, so when you hit its true capacity, it starts over writing the older files.... hence these issues.
H2testw will tell you - http://db.tt/b1g0gTPZ

Question MicroSD card support issues?

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I recently bought Nokia X20 and I'm having issues with microsd card storage. It sort of recognise it as the phone boots up, but as soon as I tap on configure storage it vanishes from thin air and it's only showing internal storage. ?
Anybody else having the same issues? I have checked and the device supports the microsd card I'm using.. Do I have to buy a new card?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, i am not sure (i have not seen this), but maybe you should remove any partitions via a PC.
Then put it in the phone and format it via the phone.
If it already is without any partitions, maybe you should format it on a pc as FAT32 or ExFat (not FAT or NTFS).
See if that helps.
