[Q] getting new phone - HTC Amaze 4G

i had a htc amaze 4g. and i really like it. i been reading that other phones have better rooms . i was wondering which will be a good option . ill apreaciate all advice . i was thinking htc one x. or maybe stay with amaze. so far i been looking for samsung 2 and 3 but i dont like the plastic, it looks like is going to break. my budget is no more than $300.

Sticks with the amaze and save the cash. Other phones aren't much better. They just have more people making roms which in the end are VERY similar!!! Just have different tweaks, etc.

Top 2 choices next month is either the HTC One and the S4. S3 already has awesome !STABLE! fully functional roms, blazing fast, huge community, etc.
You can get a S3 relatively cheap now. I sold my S3, to get either a S4 or the One. Went back to my Amaze 4g and now I remember why I gave it up in the first place.
Just my 2 pennies.

thanks for the replies. i though about htc one but is going to be expensive. and two questions how cheap did u sold your S3 and what problems you didnt like about amaze. i only had my for a few weeks so i didn't got the time to find something bad.

Your amaze should be good for now especially with fully functional sense 4 and hopefully cm10.1 coming soon. Then get the nexus 5 in october. Itll probably be a better phone those two anyway.

Are you referring to the Viper rom that has Sense 4?? That I am aware of the following still are not working
Bluetooth
NFC
Wifi Tether
@ OP, the Amaze itself is a great phone but I got tired of dealing with half or almost fully working roms. We have great dedicated developers but our community is small and fixes take time. HTC isn't too community friendly. I am currently using CM10 and I have a bunch of annoying issues. I'm actually thinking of going stock to have all working features with no issues. I just lost faith in the phone and got inpatient. Personally I can't wait to sell it or at the very least have it around til a fully functional modern rom comes out. I'm stuck with it til mid of next month.

Good luck selling it. Most people haven't even heard of the amaze. The ones on craigslist are going REAL cheap because no one is buying them. I plan on upgrading in the next month or two and have gotten almost no replies asking for the amaze, they all are interested in my jail broken and unlocked 4s.

Just ordered a Rezound did I make a good choice?

So I found what I think to be an amazing deal on a used mint condition Rezound on ebay. I've been waiting endlessly for the Incredible 4G but 2 things happened recently that has thrown a wrench in my plans, Verizon trying to do away with the grandfathered unlimited data users like me and my Incredible 2 has decided to take a huge crap. My contract is up but I'm afraid to renew it till they give us more information on the whole deal, that and I don't wanna waste my upgrade till a really awesome phone comes out. I do hope the Rezound is as good as all the reviews I've seen about it. I have been drooling over it ever since it came out back in Nov but it's over 6 months old now. What do you guys think? Also I don't know if I will root it or not. Thanks
probably too late to worry about it now...
Nope! We all hate our phones. Very bad choice.
True! Just seeing what people who already have it think about the phone since I've never got to mess with one. Although I can get a refund if I decide I don't want it.
It's an awesome phone. I think it will be the best you can get on Verizon for a while longer still. Why wouldn't you root it? If you bought it off Ebay, you shouldn't have any warranty issue to worry about. You might want to wait till after the official ota to ics though...
I do like rooting, it's fun just to do it but I probably try 50 different roms till I find one I like that's stable
Isn't flashing 50 roms half the fun of getting a new phone?

Lol cm9. Like the second apocalyptic coming ; Your supposed to believe it , never ask for ETA, and be on your best behavior at all times .
Lesson learned... Don't buy a phone for possibility of development .
If it sucks with stock , then your sol if your developers up and leave.
Ask not what your developer can do for you, ask what you can do for your developer.
I've always told people that a phone is only as good as it is stock, I forgot my own words because I needed a new phone and Rezound was best choice and I banked on development being like previous HTC phones, I'm not asking for ETAs, etc. I've been here long enough to know this. I took a chance and so far so good.

You made a really good choice sir. HTC Rezound is one of the best VZW phones. I love the true HD LCD, once you take a look at this screen you won't want to go back to anything alse. Very speedy with the 1.5 dual core processor you can fly through your apps.

It is a great phone stock and is even better with some ROMs and work
Fantastic choice. For all intensive purposes, this should have been called the Droid Incredible 3. I just upgraded 2 weeks ago ish.
I would go for root. It's an easy one to do, but if your used to clockwork, go Amon Ra on this one. Haven't tried clockwork, but i heard it has many problems. MIght I also suggest clean rom 1.7 if your going gingerbread? and SirGatez's tethering fix of course!
I just got one today, and Im wondering the same thing!
Definately can't go wrong with the Rezound. Especially if you got a good deal on it. Also rooting & S-off have made this phone very enjoyable. Plus this is one of the better communities that I've ever been a part of. I hope you enjoy your Rezound as much as I enjoy mine.
Have had this phone for one month, usually root and flash custom rom right away. This phone works so good right out of the box, very fast, best screen, everything just works. This phone has the strongest signal and best radios of all Verizon phones IMO. Great Phone.

[Q] About to ditch the EVO 3D, where to go next?

So the road for me and my Evo 3D has been a short one, i've laughed and nearly cried over updates, parts of my phone which don't work (3D) and i've finally had enough of this piece of sh** and i'm off to grab a nice quad core sgs3 because i've also had enough of HTC sh**ting on me, i'd like some new sh** from samsung please.
On top of that I do like the One X
Does anyone have any relevant reason why i shouldn't make the switch to either of these belters? Besides the fact that i'd be running two contracts at the same time? As my evo has still got around 19 months left on it.

First off, don't blame HTC for updates, they already made it. Blame sprint. HTC gave them the ics update months ago.
And I say that you should get the one x. Because on Samsung, touchwiz is nice, but you end up missing sense afterwards.

I see your in London, is that correct? What is the shooter like over there on your network? I would think all this phone really ever needed was a decent 3g network and a dose of ics. I have been switching between myn's 2 roms (gb\ics) and meanrom and i think it still performs very well. If i had to switch i might lean towards samsung based on this article....http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/08/...s-iii-in-the-us-is-giving-samsung-a-backbone/
If you want lots of updates: Galaxy Nexus.

He's on GSM; you can't blame sprint. HTC is slow to update on all carriers. Lack of updates aren't HTC's only problem though, their other problem is using ridiculously proprietary hardware (so AOSP based roms are basically impossible) and the fact that they lock down their bootloaders and give you a really crappy alternative unlock.
I've moved on to the galaxy nexus, and I'm never going to get another HTC phone again.

Totally disagree. The Evo 3d is not a piece of ****. 3D works fine. HTC is not to blame here. The phone is as good as it was when you bought it. No need to insult it and HTC and the EVO 3d community now. HTC doesn't owe you anything.
There are other phones out there that are faster, bigger screens and so on. You are welcome to move onto anyone one of them. Go for it.

Any buyer's remorse?

I'm eligible for my upgrade in Mid-Nov. I'm on the fence as between the 4G LTE and Samsung GSIII. Or, I could wait a little longer, maybe after new year, and see what is planned for Sprint's new Android lineup (if any).
I had always thought I would just stick with HTC but I am not sure anymore. The fixed battery really scares me. I rely on swapping batteries in my EVO 3D often and I have chargers everywhere as it is. That is really the only thing that makes me consider Samsung.
Anyone who's had a 4G LTE for a while now wish they got a GSIII? How is having a fixed battery?

No remorse at all love the phone fixed battery is not a issue as most users are averaging 15 hrs a charge

There are quite a few people who feel remorse over the multitasking issue, where even with most custom ROMs you'll still have the problem that the phone does not multitask properly. This is fixed with AOSP ROMs and I'm sure there will eventually be a legitimate fix for the problem on Sense, but as of now it's something that people have to put up with. I never really noticed it or was bothered by it, but a lot of people here are upset by it so I would keep that in mind.
Buy the Galaxy S III, then trade with me. My EVO LTE is superb. Kept in an Otterbox all of its life.

Never been an issue for me, and many others here and in other forums. As you know, battery life is highly dependant on your particular useage and can vary greatly from person to person.
There are many EVO vs GS3 type threads, but it basically comes down to personal preference. But don't let someone try to BS you into thinking the GS3 is "faster" because it has 2 GBs, lol.
I love the EVO LTE but I have s-off which was Important to me. The current hboots don't have it at the moment.
If that's important to you I'd go with the s3. Or wait for the new nexus which will probably have s3 specs but be straight aosp and guaranteed key lime pie next year.
I am assuming that the trend will continue where the Nexus phone has similar specs to the previous Galaxy S version.

But what is the ETA for the "new Nexus," particularly on Sprint?
A little.
The phone is nice, but it has issues. This is the first HTC phone I've been disappointed with...everyone else hated the 3D but I enjoyed that phone.
The muliti tasking, Wifi constantly dropping, sense weather widget constantly showing thunderstorms, the way Sense is still bloated and laggy at times...that and the useless HTC Hub never offering anything new, or widgets that should be common. I'm just starting to grow tired of it all honestly.
A lot of the problem can be fixed with AOSP roms, but then you lose the one real thing that made this phone, the badass Sense camera we have. I wouldn't say I'm anti Htc or anti Evo LTE..but I am disappointed.

I think it will be closer to when Verizon releases their phone. The last 1 was released in December for them. And I think the Nexus S was released in November of 2010.
So I think by the time your upgrade comes around in the middle of November you will know what's going to happen with the next Nexus phone.
Pure speculation of course.

I have a little remorse. Had an SGIII for about 2 - 3 days, bricked it and got an Evo LTE. It did seem a little faster operating the SGIII, the screen seemed a tad bit bigger, and I kinda miss the little touchwiz "shortcuts." But the Evo feels more sturdy and I had to have the kickstand. As of right now, the SGIII is easier to root but I found Fox fi for my tethering fix and I'll play with some of these launchers on the market til a new root for the Evo comes out.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
TBH, a lot of what I heard supports SGIII.
Get it, dont worry about unlocking/rooting. Slap a AOSP Rom on or go with TouchWhiz (which people tend to be liking more than Sense it seems). Then also have the option of swapping an extra battery if you so desire. I dont know, this thread just gave me more questions. I feel even more on the fence.
I do appreciate all the HONEST feedback though. This is exactly what I wanted. TBH, I may just keep the EVO 3D a little longer than anticipated and see how things play out. I dont need the extra CPU power necessarily and I wont be gaining LTE. My 3VO is just how I like it now too...

HTC community

Dear friends,
I really wanted to. I had so much hope for this device, but I can no longer do it. I love aosp and absolutely loathe sense. That being said for some reason I love HTC. They make beautiful, sexy, durable, powerful and for the most part, reasonably priced. But it seems to me that the salad days are behind me. I've had the aria, hero, touch pro, evo, HD, inspire, incredible, vivid, one x, and lastly the x+. But my last few haven't impressed and so here we are. As of last night I sold my x+, hugged my pillow, and cried myself to sleep. The latest set back was finally just to much for me after a long series of disappointments on other devices. I am using the money to buy an N4 and most likely will stick with the flagship on down the line. I plan to start learning as much as possible to help solve issues like this in the future. I say good bye and thank you to a great community and impressive company for now, its been an awesome ride.
Greatest regards,

That's a sad thread... should probably be ranamed as a "Farewell Thread"
But there is no way of happiness here, really... I was always with HTC, comming from HTC Touch Dual which was fun these days. Then my favourite HTC HD2. I was really crying when I sold it a few month ago... but sh.. I sold it for 200 bucks, and that was a price in january this year. Now I got mine HTC One X+. No trouble with a device it works, it works good, but I had more fun with my HD2 than what I have now. Want to say thanks for every dev, every member and every noob in HTC Community. That was good times. But HTC is dissapointing me, dissapointing me so much, that all my hate for Samsung has gone now and I'm switching to S4 in some time. But untill that, my heart still belongs to HTC... don't know for how long.
Same here. I gave my daughter my hox+ and downgraded to her S2 just so I could run CM again. I'll keep the S2 until the Motorola Google X is released. I too plan to stay with Google's flagship device from now on (whoever makes it). Thanks for everyone's help with hox+ related issues and questions.

This reminds me of the farewell posts back in the Windows Mobile days. I got this phone in December, and it still has the stock ROM on it. None of the ROM's here really inspire me. This is coming from someone who went through the wire trick on the Sensation XE so I could load custom ROM's on it. Maybe I am just getting lazy, but looking for something different.
I'm curious as to what you think is wrong with the current AOSP roms for the One X+? Or is it because you have the AT&T version and don't have a stable AOSP rom yet (afaik)?

It's not that there's something wrong with them, how would I know as I've not even flashed one, right? I used to love flashing ROMs, but now I guess I don't find it all that exciting anymore. I am on the International version of the HOX+ so which ROM would you recommend?

There will be CM for AT&T sooner than later though right? If sense is your only issue may as well stick it out
Patience doesn't hurt much. I've got plenty of other things to keep my attention, and I still have my Inspire to play with AOSP for now. Lloir has put a lot into this device so far, and even if not at full capacity he's said he plans to keep it going. Some calls for assistance have been sent out to other devs as well, I hear. And some of the names I've heard mention of are quite talented.
It's just a matter of time, and I think this device will be pretty great once it's got some AOSP love in it. I've had the device since November, and running Elegancia with the Nova launcher it's already quite good. I don't like sense as much as AOSP but Elegancia has been great so far. Great ROM, great dev. Besides I can't go saying there isn't enough dev work going into the device if I haven't taken the time to learn to dev myself.
Stock Sense 4 is well done imho. I was also a flashaholic on previous Android builds but now I am not completely, but pretty satisfied with the stock version that is on the device. Maybe it is because JB is more primetime than any other Android build of past?
I'm too leaving HTC after being an HTC fan for a long time... HTC is focusing and spending a lot of time on locking down their devices than actually releasing software updates.. They could've spent this time on finding a way to make their devices brick proof rather than locking it down. Their idea of updating software is releasing a new phone just like they did with the HOX and HOX+..
HTC one looks like a great device, however why the release it with android 4.1.2??? So they can release HTC one+ a few months later with android 4.2.2??
I used to hate Samsung as they make plastic and cheap looking devices but I've come to respect them as they don't abandon their devices and kept supporting them to the last minute... S3 is getting 4.2.2 soon while HOX+ still stuck at 4.1.1!! Samsung s2 is getting jelly bean!! While desire Hd didn't get ics!
I'm joining the boat and ditching HTC for good

for what it's worth, S3 has been out for a lot longer. HOX+ is still pretty young. and lack of updates has more to do with lazy carriers than manufacturers typically. But I mean, go wherever you're happy going.
interesting to hear people willing to leave htc products behind, I've come from a long line of samsung phones when I jumped ship back in the desireHD days. Having tried the sony xperia z for a couple of weeks I was glad to be offered the one+ in exchange. I've missed the htc build quality

I think the hox+ is suffering from a timing issue. All of the devs upgraded to the hox after the desireHD/inspire and then htc released the + too soon. Bring on the Motorola X.

So many great comments here. I'm on the verge of jumping ship to the new S4. As you can see from my sig, I've been exclusively with HTC for some time now, and I realllly like the x+. It's really a sleek and beautiful phone, I hate using a case but its cheap insurance. Also, for once I really don't mind the stock ROM, just had to flash the available mods and now I'm content. HTC has always treated me well, sending me new batteries and chargers even out of warranty without giving me a hard time. But alas, this dropping new and better phones every few months is really annoying. Its like they purposly hold back so they can realse something "better". If they were smart they would've made s-off easier, gave it 2gigs, and put efforts into upgrading to 4.2.2 and make the hox+ the flagship for about a year. After reading the specs of the next ONE, I'm not impressed at all, its a downgrade in memory and camera. WHY? This day in age 64gigs or an SD slot on a high end device should be the standard, and even if the 4 megapixel camera is better IRL, on paper it sounds like poop. Honestly though I can't see the camera being any better, especially if you installed the 4.2 camera app from the mod section. This phones cameras is as good or better then my Kodak 18magepix point and shoot. HTC, quit playing games. Make one kick #$% phone, upgrade it when needed, and let it rock out for about a year, stop holing back so you can realse something "better" two months later.

All carriers lock down their devices, HTC unlocks bootloaders like other OEM's via a site, what else do u need to customize your device? S-off? Unneeded.
S2 is only getting in release cos it sold a boat load of phones so of course sammy will update it to keep the peace, sensation got nowhere near the sales to warrent it in all honesty.
Sammy also doesn't update its tablets or non flagship devices, they rarely if any see updates to next android versions.
The sg4 also won't be getting official AOSP according to cyanogen mod devs as Sammy never outs the source code for yrs. Sg3 was lucky to get support.
The official news is that all current HTC devices including HOS will be getting sense 5 which will be 4.2.2 on release, at which point ill be using Aokp klp on my HOX+.

I'm not talking about carriers as I always buy international unlocked phones.. s-off is really need to be able to flash from within the device and don't have to use a pc to do so. so bootloader unlock still a limited way to open up the device.
the sensation didn't do well because it had many problems and i have owned one before and hated it .. HTC tried to fix it by releasing the XL and still the same...
HTC has said that it will release sense 5 alone with 4.2.2 but let's be honest the release of the update will take ages to see the light, because HTC ONE has android 4.1.2 so other devices won't see any updates till HTC ONE gets 4.2.2 and then maybe after a few months they will release it.. and I won't be too surprised if HTC releases HTC ONE+ to fix issues on the original one and introduce new issues as well.
i just bought Galaxy Note 10.1 and in a matter of months it got jelly bean 4.1.1 and then 4.1.2 .. also tab2 10.1 got 4.1.2 and tab2 7" got 4.1.1 ..
regarding the S4, some developers said that they might not support it but not the CM team..
It's a joke that the HTC One will be shipped with 4.1.2. Key lime pie is knocking at the door in 1 month and then 4.1.2 is so outdated. If Samsung can ship their GS4 with 4.2.2 then HTC should be able too. But I guess sense 5 is a mess and will be slowing down all updates of the Android OS. Never buy a phone with an outdated software; it will slow down the update process even more. OEMs normally don't skip OS versions. So until the HTC One will get KLP it will be next year or more typical for HTC they will release a hardware refresh in 5 months that ships with KLP. No HTC for me anymore.
This is my first smartphone (been lurking for too long) and honestly, even though there isn't a complete AOSP for AT&T yet, I'm really impressed by everyone's hard work for HOX+. I know there's a lot that can be done with the phone that I have-- and, uh, I'll probably also switch to flagship after this, I just really wanted the internal storage-- but I'm satisfied now.
I guess it's different for people who have tasted the fruit of knowledge already, though, and I can't wait to do that too

Is it a bad time to buy Droid DNA?

Hi, I currently own HTC One X..would like to upgrade to 1080p screens..
was thinking of getting Droid DNA as it is cheap and affordable.. Is it worth buying now?
I know the phone is awesome...But I am worried about the development.
I would atleast use the phone for another year. Development is one of the main criteria for me.
Thank you
I was in the same boat as you mulling over the DNA or the ONE X+. After noticing the resale value was less for the better offering (DNA) I got it. Development is above average with 3 major builds having multiple offerings (Sense 4+, Sense 5 & AOSP/CM) Everything pretty much works in all roms except BT headset audio for cars in AOSP which I'm bummed about because I recently discovered my inner AOSP and would rather be running it than Sense but its a dealbreaker for me as I'm an audio enthusiast. If you do decide to upgrade another obvious choice is the ONE but it will be a bit pricier outright as it is still a new phone. The screen on it is smaller but it has boomsound speakers. The DNA has curved glass like the OX. it has a soft touch back which I prefer over the metal of the ONE.
thanks for replying..but so many ppl are selling droid dna on swappa..which got me worried..why many ppl leaving the device? at this pace it is even difficult to have android 4.3 running on dna

Possibly because the One is being released by Verizon within the next few months.

The DNA will lose some developers to the One, but its safe to say it will keep a handful; at least through their 2 year contract. The development right now is pretty strong and I'm confident we will have a 4.3 and 5.0 port.

People are selling because they are upgrading/planning on upgrading. The one is coming, a possible dna 2, and this Droid ultra that's being talked about.

Hmmm..so what do you say guys..should I go for droid dna or spend hell lot of money and buy HTC one? even xperia Z is also in my mind..I hate samsung phones..

Perosnally I think you're the only one who can make the decision you're looking for on some of the questions you've asked. The DNA is a phenomenal phone and it's still holding it's own with current phones. However, when the new snapdragon phones get released it will be much slower comparitively. Developement is fine and we have been getting many many ports from the HTC One so as long as that stays true then we should have no trouble getting updated versions of android. Also keep in mind that HTC has said that our phone will be getting updated to 4.2 and you can assume it will get one more update to 4.3. With the Developer Version of the One being released we can also speculate that we will benefit from that as well.
I would personally hold out unless you got a steal on a DNA. I was going to hold out but we took advantage of the free DNA's that verizon was giving out. Very happy with my decision but at this point you have the One coming to Verizon as well as the Butterfly S which may be the DNA 2.
If its a choice between phones available now I would go with the DNA over the ONE just because its kinda the same phone minus the boomsound, and I don't mean that spec for spec but generally speaking. If you wait there will always be better options but you have release dates to consider as well as contracts. DNA can be used on prepaid GSM so that's a plus for no contract people. Also you can always sell your current phone for a new phone that you aim to buy used. After selling my EVO LTE I only paid $150 for the DNA so its a smart way to always get the phone you desire for cheaper. I've never owned multiple superphones but maybe ill get an S4 unlocked when the price comes down a bit.
The only thing I would buy the one for is zoe. I'm no professional photographer so the 8 megapixelcamera the DNA has is fine for me. Um other than and that it comes with stock sense5 the DNA and the one are similar. Honestly I would wait for the phone that's supposedly the one and the DNA combined, if anything

Get DNA. U wont regret it. Advise from a fellow indian
HTC ONE is priced highly and it has build issues.
As far as rom dev is concerned, DNA is best positioned among all htc phones if devs stay with it.
We have sense 4+ roms like viper, sense5 port, and whole host of aosp roms. Should be getting sense5 officially atleast as well.
Hell i have compiled 3 roms namely jellybeer, slimrom, baked
We have all major roms also. Chk orig. android section.

Hey guys, I still got the good ol' HD2 or should I say I got two working and one touchscreen defective HD2?
Is the Droid DNA a successor of the HD2?
I'm lovin' this old companion but I think it's time to move on.
What about the battery, is it detachable?
edit: Yeah, I see, it's not removable. What does this mean? How complex is it to remove the battery?

You'd have to open the phone up, not super easy. Buy why would you want to get at the battery.

So the phone is that good, that there's ne reason to reboot it hard via removing the battery? Great.
Ummm one question, maybe because of my english comprehension: BT Headset Audio isn't working with CM10.1 JB4.2.2 So what's that meaning? I won't be able to use my BT Headset for calls? Any Chances for a fix or finding the cause of this?

If you need to hard reboot you hold the power button for 10 seconds, just like every other device with a non removable battery.
And yes, your headset won't work fie now. There's a good chance it will be fixed eventually.

Looks like a HD2 successor for me.

Nothing like the HD2 really... That would be the Evo or Thunderbolt really... Plus didn't the HD2 run winmo?
That's why I'll try to fix my fellow HD2, but it's old, even the Thunderbolt and Evo are kinda old. I want to buy a new device, use it till it's exhausted like the HD2 (Old digitizer died, replaced it, now it's dead again, or the buttons are bad).
The HD2, WinMo6.5 from stock. The question is: Is there an OS the HD2 couldn't handle? But this discussion belongs somewhere else.
